Street Battle in Iran
[YouTube]: might not play in your region.
Via BBC Farsi, this amazing footage of protesters beating back riot police on the streets of Iran. As the police turn and flee, the crowd shouts "Hurrah!"

That one worked for me.
What is your conceptual, continuity?
I wish Americans had the balls the Iranians do. We could push back the conservatives and big corporations. Some day it will get to that point.

Shoot each other?
I think we're already doing that.

I agree! I salute the Iranian people for their bravery. Unlike we American cowards who sat and watched our TVs in 2000 and allowed the Bush Crime Family to steal the election and undermine our democracy. Some of us will never forget this and the disaster that resulted!
Americans are too drugged and 'pacified' by TV and Cellphone gadgets to bother fighting. They are being slowly cooked and the police state raises the water temperature.
The Bush crime family didn't just steal an election, it started a war of aggression. The supreme international war crime.

the police did not open fire. Maybe they just couldn't bring themselves to gun down their fellow citizens in cold blood.
Even so, I hope the protesters maintain their courage but remain cautious when they confront armed authorities. I do not trust that the Iranian government will allow the police to be so restrained in the future.
...by not confronting him as he criticized Obama's relative hands off attitude towards Iran. Not during any of Grandpa's interviews did anyone point out his "bomb, bomb, Iran comments.
Despite McCain's comments, if America takes a tougher line it will backfire. I understand where the McCain camp is coming from. These folks want to install their own guy in Iran, possibly the shah's son, dressed up with a veneer of democracy and whole lot of western money, in the belief that it would represent America's best interest.
how that worked out LAST time!
Are they EVER gonna learn?
to read more history...The tactics did not work in the past...Reagan about the wall was at the very end of the cold war with a weakened Soviet Economy.. We Americans are not part of the sovreign nation of Iran...we can empathizse, pray for and support but we must not meddle! It weakens our hand in the World...look at history!
The temperature in hell must have fallen a few degrees. I base this on the fact that Joe Scarborough said this morning that the President was saying exactly the right thing with his message to Iran and that the neo cons should basically STFU.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
Oh, I forgot to add my question to my last comment. Are Iranian citizens allowed to have guns? A blow up like that in America would look a whole lot different and be most likely a whole lot deadlier.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
I am sure they don't get guns, hell they don't get beer!
Actually I just heard that some people have guns but they are on the outskirts of the country These protestors do no have guns. This is according to Richard Engel.

I was thunking a think yesterday.
We have all these self-described "militias" here now days, and "random" killers like roeder, von brunn, forde and others. We even have extremist movements like Dominionists and Joel's Army.
What chance have we of politicians having their own militias fighting in American streets?
Diabolus est Deus Inversus
we massively outnumber them AND this is something no one talks about. We have hundreds of thousands of very pissed off combat veterans in this country. They are mostly on our side. You don't want to push those individuals very far.
Got to give us what we want
Gotta give us what we need

And then there are the likes of Blackwater (or whatever they are calling themselves today).
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
Blackwater Mercenaries might kill Arabs and Blacks for money, but I don't think even they would kill white working class Americans for money. Most Blackwater guys are former US Spec Ops guys anyway.
They'll simply ask for more money.
Vote GOP and move forward to the 18th Century.
Afterall, they'd have to break down the doors of working class Americans and locate the glowing rectangle in order to fire on the protestors.

and from what I've read, alot of these mercs are from other nations, and wouldn't think twice about gunning down Americans.

Then you haven't been paying attention. Mercs kill for cash. They're paid to follow orders. They'll kill who they're told to kill, especially if the ones they're told to kill are labeled 'insurgents,' or some other kind of 'enemy.'
If you notice that Bush pulled out the National guard and brought in Blackwater in its place, that's why we haven't had a rebellion. If we got into a civil war, it would be the other country that would have to save us, much like the German people was saved by our allied forces.
Go see the movie "Valkyrie"
hate to say it, but most of our militia in the nation are conservatives.
Powerful stuff!
yeah it is. this is why we can't accept journalists being forced to leave iran. these stories are too important to capture.
It's always heartwarming to see running-dog lackeys of the petro-criminal overclass chased in pants-pissing panic from the streets of the capital by the wrathful vanguard of the proletariat. Oh, wait, wrong forum.
I suppose Rumsfeld would describe what is going on in Iran as "messy". I recall Iraq being in chaos after the US invaded and his comment was that democracy is messy.

except that it's religious nuts are fully in control. I hope Americans sees that Iran, and all of the Middle East, is more than just terrorism and oil, and feel like they share much more than they previously had been exposed to.
I really admire the courage and tenacity of the Iranian people as they struggle to achieve political justice. I can already tell it's going to be hard road, and will only get worse as the government becomes more desperate to quell the dissenters.
check this out...
it's getting worse as we speak...

Isn't funny how neocons are only conerned about human rights when they want to invade? They are so disingenuous, and will do and say anything to get us involved in another war over resources.
Perfect example of this is neocon, Dan Senor saying that Democrats hated Reagan more than Communism, when he was comparing the Velvet Revolution to what's going on in Iran today.

I have a feeling we'll one day see that here. Hope everyone has the balls to step up.
Iranians now know that they live under the heel of a brutal dictatorship that is willing to kill masses of people if they dare to stand up to the regime.
Sad to see, but better to know the truth. The mullah's were never your friends. They are the wardens of your prison.
if Iranians kicked out their mullahs and established a real democracy in their own country?
Oh yeah, they did. That was before America toppled president Mosadek in 1953, then installed the puppet Shah.
Good luck to the Iranian people. You'll have to earn your freedom with a lot of blood, but it will be worth it.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is about what it looked like on the the greens at Lexington and Concord on an April day 234 years ago. I'm proud of these Iranian people. They will, of course, suffer greatly for what they did, and there's the pity.

This is also what it looked like at the Justice Department in 1969, or in a number of US cities in the 1960s. We tend to forget that we had some pretty serious streetfighting here not so long ago.. The responses since then in this country included crack cocaine and an almost incomprehensible rate of incarceration of people of color -- as well as the numbing effects of television. Nevertheless, we did win some things with our streetfighting, and so will the Iranians. We also lost some ground, and so will they. As George Orwell, who was wounded fighting for revolution, said "All revolutions are failures, but they are not all the same failure." The struggle continues -- especially if we have some historical perspective.
