AMATO vs LEWIS
December 21, 2009 MSNBC
Our own John Amato takes on conservative blogger Matt Lewis. (Nicole) During David Shuster's news hour, Amato was asked about Sen. Tom Coburn's unconscionable comment praying that someone (presumably 92 year old Senator Robert Byrd, who despite his frail health, chided the GOP for their bad faith in health reform negotiations last week) would not make the vote.
Matt Lewis ridiculously tries to assert that what Coburn meant was a missed "alarm clock." Please. If that was the case, why do we see articles like this?
Whether or not Lewis is willing to be honest, there's no bar too low for Republicans in trying to obstruct what the majority of Americans want, not even wishing for the death of a Senator.

He would not mind a bit if someone died as long as he get his money from the insurance comapny!
I have heard these faux christians talk about god will smite this one or that group!
Yes the bill is terrible and republicans like mcconnell have done everything they could do to make it as bad as possible.
Don't give me this mccain feingold bullshit.
None of the republicans have done anything to help!
Nice tie. :)
far left loon >.<
AOL? It that crappy ISP still around?
I'm praying that Coburn gets herpes from his buddy Ensign right now as I type. So there, we're even.
Good job, John! Dumb discussion, but good job!
Seriously, who cares about what Coburn was actually praying for? It's a distraction from genuine issues even if his thoughts are sinister.
And yeah, the only reason there is bipartisan agreement that the bill sucks is that the majority of the country is watching their elected majority cave to the will of the tyrannical minority. That minority would be against any bill, even if it gave each of its members a million dollars.
By the way, if Lewis has never heard of any Christian theology in which the god-head just strikes people down, he's either never read the Bible or just awoken from a many-decades-long coma. Or both.
Everyone is equally entitled to the pursuit of happiness. Wasn't that once self evident?
This joker doesn't even know that the screwball senators are holding prayer meetings to stop poor people... no not poor people, people who are not lucky enough to have the senator's health care from getting health care. I hate these people.
What about old people? Does this bill not rape madicare funds and will the elderly not suffer and maybe die because of it?
.
ltns there Ron. Would you like to explain that or are you going with the two letter response?
Because he's to nice enough not to give you a two finger response.
Bite my shiny metal ass.

Who are you fooling? I have talked to ron before lol
John,
I wish you had come with a list of the Republican tactics ready to enumerate quickly. It seemed like you were so overwhelmed with their sham tactics that it was hard to know where to begin in such a short period of time.
We on the left have to have our points ready to roll out whenever we get into these discussions. It's obvious that those on the right have been coached and practice their talking points every day. So when they get a chance to be on air, they just repeat the points over and over. We should be ready to do the same thing.
John, you were right in what you said, but did not sufficiently engage Lewis. You didn't land punches like you could have.
Sorry to sound critical, but we have to fight the fight in the same way the opponents do, but better. Keep your list on your sleeve and keep hammering away every time you get the chance.
Love C&L, and the bloggers on it. So don't take my helpful suggestions the wrong way, please.
..have compared this to the odious Ann Coulter's wish that Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens would eat poisoned Crème brûlée. Make no mistake, even when they don't explicitly say that death is what they mean, that's what they mean.
"In theory theory and practice are alike. In practice they are very different."

Constructive criticism is fine as far as I am concerned.
These sons of bitches are so disingenuous they spewed the total bullshit about death panels thousands of times in one month. Even senators who should absolutely be above this were screaming it in megaphones. But this scumbag debating Amato is as bad as a turd floating in a swimming pool.
Conservatism: the turd that can't be flushed!
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
I'm always surprised that there are people who believe those obvious lies. Don't they think for themselves for one second?
I'm sure that those are the same people that the moon landing is a hoax.
Bite my shiny metal ass.

Maybe so but for sure they are the ones who would vote for Palin.
I'm just getting comfortable being in front of the cameras because it's a different environment and since I was working on the book I stopped going on for a few months, but I will improve now the more I go on of that I am certain.
MSNBC/David Shuster should've given you more airtime. What was up with that? Sheesh!
btw, nice suit and tie! You're looking mighty fine ;)
Shuster should not have wasted time on the stupid video. Oh well. There will be a next time because MSNBC likes C+L and we like Shuster.
I was not impressed. Smarten up, David Shuster!
I just gave a look at that link to the Confederate Yankee site.
As much as I think I won't be shocked or disgusted anymore...I am...over & over...and I've been around a few years or so.
The sick hate & congratulatory tone of 'being so', is so rampant in a country that claims to be the standard-bearer for all that is good & correct...it would totally laughable if not for being so incredibly shocking & sad!!
Imprecatory Prayer
Among others, Palin believes in this time of prayer. I'd have just flat out asked him if he believed himself in Imprecatory Prayer. Then if he says no, wait for the Palinites to get him. Too evil?
Nice, air time, yay.
"Imprecatory prayer is most often used when the criminals are the rich and powerful or corrupt men in government. The prayer asks God to solve the problem and bring the criminal to repentance, or to judgment."

However:
Judge not, that ye be not judged.
For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
(Winking doesn't help).
St. Matthew 7: 1-3 KJV
However, one thing to be considered:
Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

McCain is irrelevant . And has been for a long time.
He's just pissed that he got all dolled up to go to the dance.
And got stood up.
What is your conceptual, continuity?
So are 85% of the Democrats in Congress!
Surrogates blasting the GOP on a daily basis.
I liked the Dem's short-lived descriptive of "the party of Corruption and Cronyism."
The Dems need to learn how to re-frame things! Taxes are how we pay for the things we need. Want safe food? Want clean water?
They could start with:
- Republicans. Claim to care about, but only scare, Grandma.
- Republicans. A proven vote for American corporations not the American people.
- Republicans. Talk Tough... but weak on Defense - they underfund the troops and then privatized our war efforts.
- Republicans. The Party of No, spreads nothing but lies, mis truths, hypocrisy, and hate.
- Republicans - always finding another way to steal from the US Treasury and give to their rich buddies - Bailout the Bankers --> record profits; Stonewall healthcare --> record profits for Insurance company; etc. etc. etc.
- Republicans. The party that clamors to drown the government gave you Katrina; e-coli-spinach; and two colossally war failures.
Problem is the Dems ... SUCK!
Thing is everyone of those "talking points" could be turned around and aimed squarely and truly at Democratic administrations. I do agree that the Dems suck though.
I've listened to that clip, and it just doesn't seem like Coburn meant this. Sure, if you isolate one phrase, and then interpret that phrase in the worst way possible, you can do the Republican play of demanding an apology for something the person didn't say. It's kind of depressing to hear us doing the same old pearl-clutching.
Some things we have to do just like the Repubs. Do you think for a second that they wound not be playing this to the hilt?
Thank you that is a most honest statement, of course he did not mean it that way.
Sounds like he's just waxing scatalogical.
And if that woiked I wouldn't mind birds taking a massive dump on my car.
Diabolus est Deus Inversus
brought God into politics.
When saying "Republicans in trying to obstruct what the majority of Americans want" what fact are present to conclude that the majority of Americans want this?
some statics.
Sixty-six percent (66%) of U.S. voters prefer a smaller government with fewer services and lower taxes over a more active government with more services and higher taxes.
Similarly, pollster Scott Rasmussen reports that only 34 percent of Americans say passing a Democratic health care bill is better than passing nothing, while 57 percent say it's better to pass no health care bill at all.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 44% would vote for their district’s Republican congressional candidate while 37% would opt for his or her Democratic opponent.
These numbers are not really consistent whith the statement "The majority of Americans want this" are they?
Where did they get that 66% from? The Fox news channel polling their employees? And Rasmussen is known as a rightwing suck-up who always overpolls GOPers, and underpolls democrats and other normal people.
With 20% + unemployment, who gives a shit about taxes except the ultra-rich fascist bastards in the GOP who have apparently fooled you?
If you want to come here and play with the adults, you are going to have to do a lot better than spewing mindless GOP bullshit talking points!
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
well I for one care about taxes and the unemployed should too. As a business owner taxes are always an issue. My business is not lagre by any means but I do business with large companies and let me tell you what's good for them is good for me. But wait, before you start to lump me into an I don't care about anyone but myself sterotype, I should go on the say that what's good for me is good for the people that work for me. Finally my immeadite and extended family also have a say in this because support to them is extended by way of my business suscess. So when I hear someone say "who gives a shit about taxes except the ultra-rich fascist bastards in the GOP " I think to myself anyone that can honestly say they don't care about taxes must not pay in very much. Much in the way someone given something never cares for that something as well as someone that worked to earn it. As for the polls you only dispute rasmussen because it goes against your agenda. If you have data stating otherwise produce it.
I listen to S-pan every day and today was that most people are leaving the republicans party because they do not care for the average person. but are for the big insurances and pharmaceutical s co.
I think we have to continue to get Neocons out of office.
So you are saying that regardles of overwhelming poll data and reports stating otherwise, because you watched c-span today it's a fact that America wants this very stupid costly bill?
The only reason the american people oppose this bill, is because the republicans and Senate bluedogs (republican-lite) made it a huge welfare gift to the insurance and pharmaceuticals.
If it was money spent wisely on the people, instead of GOP bluedog cronyism, they would be all for it!
I am sick of you clueless rightwing dupes talk about spending on the american people, after the psychopath's you support stole 20 trillion dollars from us, and gave us nothing in return but unemployment and foreclosures.
And where is all this overwhelming data you keep talking about, which apparently is nothing more than rightwing number fudging for the cluelessly stupid and hopelessly ignorant?
The democrats won overwhelmingly the last two times because the american people WANT health care reform. You need to get your information from some sources other than Rush Limbaugh's boil laced fat lying ass.
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
Deals to the doctors unions cutting their taxes and placing them on the tanning ind. and deals made to aarp and big insurance. Were made before Republicans had anything to do with either bill. Looks like your guys are quite adept at give aways to big business and closed door deals. stimulas funds to phantom districts and bribes to Dem senators in lieu of votes. Don't give me that my stuff don't stink line. Does the last two times include Virginia and New Jersey this year? I could care less what you are sick of. Stop crying about the mess you were left with, stop adding to it and then take some responsiblity for what you and your sentors are doing.
Cool story bro!
Bite my shiny metal ass.
http://www.startalkradio.net/
First of all, they are NOT my guys. And both of MY senators DID support the public option.
Am I supposed to quit my job and go to D.C. and have a talk with bluedogs? WTF? And responsibility for what? Please tell me WTF I can do to make these corrupt corporate cock suckers give up their bribes and actually work for the american people? Knowing that 70-80% of the american people wanted a public option sure didn't seem to phase them.
The bluedogs are corporate fascists, everyone here knows that. I was referring to your referencing of bullshit GOP polls. Furthermore, I don't know who you are, seems like you have just come to this site, but I have been saying repeatedly that this bill should go down. I just don't reference GOP bullshit and talking points to support it.
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
Typical right wing interpretation. You quote one poll, then call it "overwhelming poll data." You also misinterpret the data in polls. The reason so many people say that no bill is better than this bill is because this bill is so faulted. It is so short of what is wanted. The data represents that people are cynical that it will result in any real improvement. They want a better, more liberal bill that will guarantee people some real choices and bring down the cost of health insurance.
The majority of people in this country want some sort of public option. They want the anti-trust laws to apply to insurance companies. And they want the mandate removed. None of those things are in this bill because of conservatives who fought to remove them, in spite of the fact that they will vote against the bill anyway. (I include Lieberman and Nelson in conservatives.)
Nice suit :)
Corruption favors the wealthy.
I'm shocked I was still able to fit in it..LOL
the Teabagger signs that said "bury Obamacare with Kennedy." There were also prayer letters circulating prior to the election praying for McCain to die in office so that Palin would become president. Not to mention all the unsubtle wishes that someone would take Obama out. The Right is all about death wishes; these "Christians" really believe that those who stand in the way of God will be cut off, struck down, damned to hell, etc.
will be cut off, struck down, damned to hell . . ."
Has it occurred to these fake Christians that it is THEY who are standing in the way of God?
Matt Lewis looks like a frog.

Diabolus est Deus Inversus
It seemed like an awfully short segment, where both John and Matt barely got to speak. Since Matt spewed quite a bit of BS, that leaves John with little time for rebuttal.
At this point, wasting time on a statement like this is pointless.
Tom Coburn said something stupid and questionable. Wow! Big news.
