Rachel Maddow last night covered the unholy alliance between George Tiller's accused murderer Scott Roeder and the anti-abortion extremists Operation Rescue. Cheryl Sullenger is described as the senior policy adviser for Operation Rescue out of Wichita. Sullenger's name and phone number were found on Roeder's car dash, and records show multiple phone calls between them in recent months. Considering Sullenger's own terrorist history more than a few eyebrows were raised. Heather has the video and more detail in her post, Maddow's devastating expose: Tiller's assassin tied to Operation Rescue.

Maddow's segment featured several video clips of Sullenger, without sound. Those now seem to have been pulled from YouTube but I thought it might be interesting to hear the woman in her own words. In the clip above Sullenger is railing against Nola Foulston, Sedgwick County (Kansas) District Attorney for, according to Sullenger, "abusing the power of the DA’s office by wrongly dismissing 30 criminal charges of illegal abortions against her friend, George Tiller, even though two independent judges determined that there was probable cause to believe that Tiller violated the law". Sullenger wanted to replace her with a more sympathetic to the cause rightwing republican. Dr Tiller would go on trial in March 2009 for misdemeanor charges laid by the state Attorney-General stemming from procedures he performed, alleging he hadn't secured the proper second professional opinions necessary. It turned out he had, and the jury took less than an hour to aquit. Assistant Attorney General Barry Disney's case was tenuous at best, and lacked credible evidence.

The verdict was a blow to the pro-life community in Kansas, but especially enraged the extremist groups who looked on in the courtroom in disbelief.

And of their sworn enemy Sedgwick County DA Nola Foulston, this was her yesterday.

I recall a quote by the late George Carlin:

"Have you ever noticed that most of the women who are against abortion are women you wouldn't want to f*ck in the first place?"

Leadership's picture

So she is less a person for being obese and unattractive?

Reminds me of Rush Limbaugh quote...

"Feminism is a way to get unattractive women into the mainstream."

And is a woman just for fucking? Is that their only worth?

This woman did 2 years in prison for her beliefs, as misguided and

dangerous as they are.

But you don't want to fuck her. Good. Don't. Sounds like she

might fuck back.

What, and risk getting pregnant with no ability to abort? Doubt it.

You are wound waaaaaaaay too tight.

jenne's picture

we don't want to sound like the rush limbaughs of the left. cause this is exactly the kinds of things that people like Rush say about women of the left like pelosi, andrea dworkin, etc.

Hey now, did I ever say that her being obese or unattractive made her less of a person? No.

Do I think her beliefs of justifying Tiller's murder make her less of a person? F*ck yes.

There's a HUGE difference between unattractive and downright nasty and unappealing. This is a person I would feel disgusted to even know, much less f*ck, and that feeling was never taking her physical appearance into account.

So I made a pun. Big screaming deal. I quoted a comedian at an applicable and appropriate time. That does not justify you lumping me in with the hate-mongers that are partially responsible for Tiller's death.

...

1. Get a sense of humor 2. It is hilarious, Carlin kinda does have a point.

She's not less of a woman cause she's unattractive. She is a horrible human being cause she is partly culpable for murder. And not a perceived in womb murder, an actual murder of an actual human.

me_over_here's picture

Jeezus. I know plenty of big women that have wonderful relationships. Ann Coulter is "supposedly" physically attractive yet to quote my husband "most men wouldn't screw her with a stolen c*ck.*"

FreeAmerica's picture

Carlin's right. This one is a throw back. She may or may not be a good person but I find most extreme Christians as phonies. There are a lot od african american babies that are orphans how many has she saved

Don't forget Michelle Malkin.
The anger, hatred, and bile emanating from Malkin, along with her willingness to lie through her teeth makes her one of the least attractive persons I know of.

for being a man...albeit, a crude, lustful bastard of a man, but a human being who has feelings. };)>
I came to the conclusion. Some folks on here need to lighten the hell up.
And recognize and appreciate humor, and sarcasm when you see it.
Sometimes PC is bullshit.

Carlin's quote actually said "people", not "women". He was egalitarian about it. And right.

Bill Clinton quoted a mentor who would tell people who were denouncing the lax sexual mores of the day (in the 1960's), and holding up their own marriage of what should be, that it's real easy to avoid temptation when it's never offered.

Is that a typo? Why would Tiller and Sullenger be calling each other?

Yes

Typo now fixed.

telling Roeder Tiller's court dates. I'm willing to bet this fat fuck was fully aware that Roeder was going to assassinate Dr. Tiller. It wouldn't surprise me at all if she guided him, if she aided and abetted.

Sullenger is a TERRORIST and should be treated as such.

I agree with you 100%.

Carlin was ANYTHING but sexist woman hater!
Pull your head out of your backside!

Hooray ignorance and lack of research

If you'd bothered to click on the link, you would have heard him say "people who are against abortion". Can you explain what is sexist and mysoginystic about "people"?

Any coincidence that these murdering fantical nut jobs are all from backward hick states? Kansas...Arkansas...Kentucky... All red neck states that voted for George W. (because he's a man 'o God.)
Now they want to be packin' guns in high schools & colleges, guess they want to have shoot 'em up sessions so they can learn to keep on killin' anyone who disagrees with their sick & extreme viewpoints.
Seems that's what our country's comin' to - vigilante justice at the hands of the most unaware, unsophisticated, undignified, uneducated and ignorant among us....

Roket's picture

Bless this gun Oh Lord.

You know some very fine people hail from your so called red neck states such as Kentucky including Abraham Lincoln. Just thought you may want to know that. What fine state do you claim as your own by the way? Some overcrowded yankee cesspool with liberal courts and bad mexican food no doubt.

Jefferson Davis, also a native Kentuckian moved down to the snake-handling South...The rest, as they say, is history...

Don't knock it unless you try it rattlesnake are loads of fun and taste great with cold beer. Really though Andy you agree with woody? You think we are all just a bunch of snake handling red necks down here?

But we're not overun by them, Robby.

Where woody's wrong, though, is that Kansas has been pulling themselves out of the redness since '06. Sedgwick County voted out the old DA in large part because of the nuisance cases he was filing against Tiller.

Yeah well you turn blue by holding your breath too long too one is as bad as the other.

Roket's picture
FYI

Lincoln was simply born in KY but hails from IL (as in Land of Lincoln) such as myself. It’s OK to be born there but I definitely wouldn’t want to live there. I speak from experience because I can see KY from my house, or something.

Andy K's picture

How old was he when he moved west?

And, damn! You're in SOUTHERN Illinois, aren't you?

EWembley's picture

His bio says Troy Newman is from southern California. Don't know where Cheryl Sullenger is from originally. I remember escorting women past the two of them and into a women's health center here in San Diego in the 1990s. The Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act and the local "Bubble" ordinance put an end to their picketing activities. Troy (as we escorts referred to him) became head of Operation Rescue and moved their headquarters to Kansas in 2002.

What I remember about Cheryl was that she was a religious fanatic but didn't seem too bright. She seemed more of a follower than a leader, but she eventually made some media appearances locally, which was good for our side because she was slways good for an extreme statement or two. The stories about her recently mention she served time for planning to blow up a clinic; what I haven't seen mentioned was that the clinic was in San Diego.

Troy was also a religious fanatic, but he was more high strung than Cheryl. I can see how he got into a leadership position. We took the approach of just ignoring the protestors so they couldn't draw any energy from the confrontation (basically bored the hell out of them). That led to Troy trying to get in my face one day when I wouldn't respond to anything he was saying.

Yeah...that'll do it. Get "pro-choice" candidates elected. THAT will take care of "corruption in politics"?????

What an idiot.

nickjacket's picture

sounds like an attempt to divert attention away from himself in the event that he'd be captured.
How many cell phone users keep frequently called numbers on paper in conspicuous places like a hot and sun-bleached dashboard at the end of May?
The presence of that number on a note and call records that show calls between the two do not prove conspiracy. He could have become emboldened to do what he did by means of access to Sullenger but she may not have been aware of his private need to be emboldened by keeping in touch.

...the so-called pro-life movement is just a justification for their hatred/rage. If abortion were illegal, they would be hating on something else.

To me the evidence is in their actions or lack thereof. EVERY "pro-life?" site that I visit, has not one link or offer information on the following:

Adoption
Medical alternatives for those who CHOOSE to birth but cannot afford it. (Oh, that's right the "evul guvernment" picks up the tab.) Oh gosh, us mentally deranged liberals offering healthcare to those who would otherwise die w/o it.)
Mentoring like BB/BS ( YOu know things for the post-utero kids who need a little help in life)

I argued this point over on Jill Staneks blog for about 5 hours under the same name as here if you want to read my responses.

I honestly wish we could give them this post Roe utopia that they wish for so, we could hold them accountable (as they have now taking ownership of every uterus in the US) for all abandon, abused, mal-nutritioned kid that comes as a result.
Again, if not for Roe, most of these people would be Tim McVeigh at the keyboard.

(BTW, I like BBW's...I'd do the lady!)

...don't say anything at all."

I've got nothing to say about Cheryl Sullenger.

These operation rescue people are terrorists and need to be stopped. They should not be allowed to kill or incite others to kill.
I have lived in Ky most of my life. I have lived in a few other places also.
The one thing i can tell you is that no matter where you live there are nut jobs.
But there are wonderful people also.
There are people in Ky that would do anything to help you.
Yes there are a lot of disadvantaged people that are not very intelligent but there are also people that are as kind and loving as any you will find any where on earth.
The nut jobs draw more attention.

Maggotpunk's picture

Cheryl is a liar. The abortion practice was purchased by Dr. Tiller. The empty building was purchased by an anti-choicer and Operation Rescue sits in it. Operation Rescue never shut down the clinic.

Maggotpunk's picture

Kansas for Truth in Politics was the lamest PAC ever. They never donated any money to candidates and most of their endorsements lost.

MaudeLebowski's picture

"Sullenger is railing against Nola Foulston, Sedgwick County (Kansas) District Attorney"

Ms. Foulston actually prosecutes real criminals, like the BTK killer. Not a doctor doing his job. Hopefully she nails Mr. Roeder's balls to the wall too.

Rescue (written in 2004). With Sullenger's domestic terrorism record and Troy Newman actually moving to Kansas with statements to the effect that Kansas wasn't big enough for Dr. Tiller and him....well, if Operation Rescue isn't a terrorist organization, then nothing is.

CHERYL SULLENGER........you are the lowest of the low.
I can’t believe it. It looks like it will take one their family members to be murdered before they actually condemn acts like this…

I don’t know what’s more frightening: that these groups are so blatantly terrorists (and explicitly state their plans for murder and destruction) or that our government does nothing about it.
Dont these ppl have lives instead of trying to take away rights from their fellow human beings? WTF is wrong with THEM?
For some, its just not enough to have relative control over their own lives. Some just aren't happy until they control YOURS too. Fanatics all. There is no reasoning with them. they tend to pick and choose which chapters and verses support their own prejudices. Yet in the end, IT DOES NOT not change the fact: Abortion clinic bombers and assassins of physicians who provide the services are terrorists.........
No matter how they disguise it, justify it, or spin it...It is what it is.
TERRORISM

Have y'all noticed when these goobers don't get their way they get abusive as in, "...abusing the power of the DA’s office by wrongly dismissing 30 criminal charges of illegal abortions..." like they know the law and others don't?

Not only that, the DA was on their side, and had no choice but to withdraw the cases for lack of probable cause, so his own people turned on him.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTgVXzRLhBs&fe...

Or in the Dover Pennsylvania case, they kept talking about respect for the law and our legal system, but when the Republican appointed judge ruled against them would say things like, "What box of Cracker-Jacks did he get his law degree from?"

Can we please stop using the phrase "anti-abortion" and use "anti-choice" instead? I think the hugely vast majority are anti-abortion but understand the circumstances that necessitate choices to be made in these emotionally painful decisions. I think this would be more adequate in the feelings of most who support choice.

I haven't seen any bumper stickers that say "Pro-Death"

and

I don't see any anti-choice videos that show real and happy children or adults that had been "saved" from abortion.

Who shot the love seat?

Kansas traditional values scare the fucking crap out of me, thank Jeebus that they're contained.

of people that the haters of operation rescue and other such organizations have always depended upon for support to stop listening and stop supporting this home-grown, hateful, ignorant, one-sided, determined-to-be-dominant minority of fascists.

When more and more of their supporters see them for what they are, fascists, dictators, a moral goon squad, and realize that their message is not only hateful but it disrupts, terribly, the cohesion of our society and undermines the rule of law in this country and seeks to subvert justice to control it to make it serve it's purposes, their end will be nigh.

As fervently as Cheryl Sullenger prays for the election of hateful, conservative, domination-minded abortion foes to state political offices, I pray for the absolute fall from grace and utter dissolution of operation rescue and all the other anti-abortion PACs that would take womens' health back to the dark ages. I pray that the supporters of these groups will one day wake up and realize that government really has no proper role in a woman's reproductive health decisions except to defend those rights. Americans hold the right to privacy dear. And, government should not be allowed to pry into it, whether it's on the side of prohibiting or banning abortions, or denying the right of women to make their own reproductive choices. We, as a nation should help women achieve their optimal health and well being. And, more than any one else, a woman knows what is best for her and as a nation, we should respect that.
