Republican Senators Block Homeless Veterans Bill
Steve Benen hit this nail on the head.
With an estimated 107,000 homeless veterans, this is pretty low, even for Republicans.
Just shameless. And Republicans accuse Democrats of hating the troops.
Sen. Patty Murray's (D-Wash.) bill on homeless veterans seems like the kind of legislation that should be approved rather easily. But in this Senate, nothing's easy.
As the senator's office explained, her Homeless Women Veterans and Homeless Veterans With Children Act would "expand assistance for homeless women veterans and homeless veterans with children and would increase funding and extend federal grant programs to address the unique challenges faced by these veterans."
It was approved in committee with bipartisan support, and Murray brought it to the floor this morning, seeking unanimous consent. She didn't get it -- Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) objected on behalf of Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), who apparently was concerned about funding. Read on...

Go fuck yourselves. What have you done for me today.
To bad you only had two legs and two arms to give for the big oil corporations. How the hell could you be so stupid to go into a war zone and get yourself hurt. You brough this on yourself now live with it.
Just a message from the GOP to the quitter troops getting out of war by getting hurt! Suffer baby we are rich!
Since republicans hate the troops
so much after they are hurt.
We could just kill them. claim it
was friendly fire.
They can kill 2 birds with
one stone so to speak.
Get rid of the pesky injured.
Endless streams of $$$ to fund the wars ..
When will government of the people, by the politicians, for the corporations perish from this Earth?
Not soon enough!
We spend trillions training and arming them to be soldiers and only pennies helping them return to civilian life.
Having worked with lots of homeless vets (and currently in post-production on a film about them) I am sickened by this. I've met a female soldier who lost her husband in the war, suffers from severe PTSD and lives in her car because she can't sustain employment due to her emotional troubles - and she only gets $123 a month for her sacrifice. A wounded vet I know added up his wages, benefits and disability pay from his years serving in Iraq (where he nearly lost a leg) and divided it by the amount of time he was serving and it came out to less than a dollar an hour.
It's disgusting how we treat our soldiers and inhuman how we treat our vets.
Hopefully humanity will one day learn to be humane.
these shills have not done anything for the American people over the corporations in 18 years...Someone name one thing the repubs have supported for the people over corporations!
Question; Is it considered bigotry to admit to a hatred of all things and people associated with this modern version of the republican party? I know that we should be tolerant of other points of view and encourage diversity as a means of fostering a culture rich in it's positve view of humankind and a source of enlightment and intellectual stimulation; but I can't for the life of me justify having to sully my mind and senses listening to and observing the mechinations of a group of persons, electees or electorate, who's humanity and ideology ranks down with the likes of the Khemer Rouge, Natl. Socialism, Stalinism, and the worst excesses of feudalism and the catholic church prior to the Age of Reason! The republican party is so transparent in it's glorification of unbridled greed and rapacious aquisition of material wealth while denigrating all unfortunate enough to have been born in less than auspicious circumstances that it should be the constant object of scorn and derision by all those possessing an iota of common sense and decency! This charade of deferrence to their views and opinions in the name of civility must stop and all persons of compassion and conscience call these parasites out for what they really are and represent! And, no I am not a veteran; nor do I support the militarism which holds so many of this nation in thrall. I do, however, respect those who by virtue of dedication to a set of beliefs so grossly exploited by those professing love of country, were sent by these individuals into horrendous and destructive circumstances that left them so impaired, for nothing more than the pursuit of material gain and power!
