Oh, and another thing, Donald Rumsfeld spilled the beans about wasteful 'spending' at the Pentagon, on September 10, 2001. He brought it to our attention that the Pentagon could not account for $2,300,000,000,000 of our dollars. Yes, that Rumsfeld, brought this to our attention! Then we promptly did nothing. Completely forgotten. Well, now it's time to remember.

Not soon enough!
Knowing now what we know about rummy, why do you suppose he told us about it?
Really curious.
No way I believe he was once an honest man.
Humpty Dumpty was pushed.
Good question. Perhaps he wanted to deflect blame by getting out in front of it? He was addressing the issue though. Although he never brought it up again as far as i know.

Nixon (of all people) referred to Rummy as one real ruthless bastard.
Maybe the bushies wanted to take more direct control of the Pentagon, so he was taking advantage of the wasteful spending to do a little crisis capitalism of his own. Then something bigger came along to enable him to do the same thing.

Don't take no shit. I like him.
I wasn't all that impressed. He still let him yammer on endlessly and call insisting on their balanced budget amendment as somehow being "reasonable" and "compromise." The only thing Lemon really did is get onto him a few times when he asked some not so terribly probing questions on whether the "influential" "tea party" has made their point or not now and should give in to the god awful austerity "compromises" that are being discussed by both sides. It was more false equivalencies from Lemon and he got baby Paul aggravated a bit since he didn't allow him to filibuster him during the interview, but it was definitely no model for holding any of these people's feet to the fire. If anything Lemon should be called out for trying to pretend that daring to interrupt one of them once in a while for not directly answering a question, even if they answer that question with a lie and with no follow up from Lemon, is some model for what anyone would call journalism.
He let him lie and get away with it and he let him pretend that the Republicans are acting reasonable in any way shape or form during this debt ceiling debacle without really calling him on it.
Maybe it's just been so long since I've seen anyone on CNN put his/her foot down to anyone. Call it "the doormats fight back", I guess. The fact that it is so rare that anyone (Ratigen, Ed, O'Donnell excepted) call these privileged bitches out for there shit IS why they're so eager to go on in front of their mics.
Yeah, maybe Lemon's just being given enough latitude by CNN for a short-term, and then they'll toss him as just "another uppity Negro". Wouldn't surprise me at all if this is their plan. But til then, I'll support the guy in whatever attempts, even if imperfect, that are better than the other "newsmen" on that network.

to see these guys called out in any measure, but that's really not what he did. And there's a later clip where he's bragging about the interview with some outtakes which just makes the fact that he didn't really bring the hammer down on him on anything even worse. Dave Neiwert has had some personal experience with CNN and Lemon in particular that he told me about a while back and he's got a pretty low opinion of him to put it mildly. He's not as awful as some of the others on there, but he's still pretty bad about ninety percent some of the time. And don't even get me started on Ratigan when he allows Tom Coburn and Jason Chaffetz to come on his show on a regular basis and pretend either of those two assholes aren't a major part of what's wrong with our political system right now. Ratigan talks a tough game about fixing what's wrong with our political system with meaningless platitudes that he repeats on a daily basis and then let's right wingers come on there and paints them as sane or rational.
The teevee "liberals" who get paid a fat paycheck, to pretend to care for the lower classes. It's called acting.

The right wing could never get to where they are today by being honest. It would just never happen. It should be everyone's duty to make sure that the right wingers are put back in their place - the distant past - like maybe the 1930s.

The framework of a tentative deal to raise the nation's debt ceiling calls for up to $2.8 trillion in total deficit reduction over the next decade, sources tell CNN.
The agreement, still being negotiated by the White House and bipartisan congressional leaders, would allow the debt ceiling to be raised by enough to last at least through the end of 2012.
News of a possible deal came shortly after the Senate delayed consideration of Majority Leader Harry Reid's proposal late Saturday, pushing back a key procedural vote by 12 hours.

It was always a choice about default or depression. Every economist who was right about everything else is yelling "the end is nigh", regarding austerity during a recession.
Basically.. "would you like to give America a quick death, or let it die slowly and painfully?"
Seems we're choosing the latter.
As an arborist, I can certainly understand the desire and/or need to remove trees for various reasons. I make such recommendations on a daily basis. Without knowing the specifics of the trees and sites, I can't comment whether this is good or not. Given the sensitivity of the area, I'd like to think that such decisions are being made competently. I'll have to ask my boss why we didn't bid on the job.

had one of the worst days of my life. My sister who I happen to live with has declared that she's an Independant. Yes terday we got our ballots in the mail. When I saw mine I asked her if she got hers and she said after a moment of weirdness, Uh Huh and that is all she said. A little later I saw her ballot in the waste basket. She can't be independant if she won't make serious decisions.
As we are constantly boxed into this "either or" situation, I can understand your sister's frustration. Our elections are being reduced into voting for crooks, or voting for sociopaths, who are often also crooks. I generally vote for the crooks (dems) over the sociopaths (repub), but basically, that is all our elections revolve around.
No, and I'm sure you're thankful to have not had to live some of my worst ones either, my friend.
Very clever turn of a phrase, whether intended or not. ;)
Don't really know what to say. I've got a couple of really good friends who haven't voted in 20+ years. They're basically pretty liberal, but basically argue that (right or wrong) their votes don't matter. We're long past the days of arguing about it. I've just got to accept it, but I wish I could fill out their ballots...

There was a 3 tiered approach to this issue that I saw on internet TV. Basically, the 3rd tier was to not go down the "planet of the apes" avenue.
Google didn't give me the link.
And you thought Christine O'Donnell was merely a witch. Turns out she knew all along.
Humpty Dumpty was pushed.
At one point in the Professional Left podcast, they suggested that we "Stand up as Liberals" and make statements like "Here's a dollar -- that's more than Exxon paid in taxes last year. How do you feel about that?"
Most people I know will simply say that paying any taxes is immoral, unconstitutional, and generally wrong. Their response will probably be that they envy Exxon, and wish they could figure out how to avoid paying taxes themselves. Usually in such situations they add that I'm free to pay more taxes if I want to, but I shouldn't tell them what to do.
So how do you deal with this? I've tried reframing the situation and pointing out that taxes pay for various government services and infrastructure that everyone uses, but the response to this is always that (a) these services suck, (b) they don't want most of the things that are done with their tax dollars, and (c) they didn't ask for any of it.
And I can certainly see the point about not wanting most of the things that are done with my tax dollars. It causes me a great deal of pain to think that my taxes are going towards killing people in Afghanistan, Iraq, and now Libya. It feels downright insulting to think that my taxes are paying subsidies to giant industries that destroy the environment or outsource jobs to other countries. It makes me tired to think that my taxes are paying for a massive government that prosecutes people for nonviolent drug violations and whistleblowing, while financial organizations get away with destroying the economy.
Given all that, what do I say? Hell, is there even a point anymore? Maybe I'd enjoy what's left of my life a little better if I just sat back and had another drink, before the shooting revolution comes along and stands me up against the wall.
Yeah, thre is a point. Don't quit, don't give up and maintain an attitude that says, "Kick some ass!
Rock on!

I can give you a million reasons for my decision, but here's one you cannot argue with:
You'd have to be nuts to pay the people who are killing you. They may not know you exist, but none the less they are doing everything they want with no regard for your life. And it's killing you. It's that simple.
