Part two of the Peggy and Kathleen show on This Week with George Stephanopoulos. This time the topic is health care. After some straight talk from Paul Krugman about the importance of including a public option to control costs and the fact that there is no real competition in the health care markets now, we get another "Oh my goodness" moment from Peggy Noonan. Noonan seems to think she knows what most "normal humans" think and forget all those mushy details those darned economists like Krugman tend to bring up. Let's just talk about taxes. Doing her best to channel a little bit of Sarah Palin here:

Noonan: Oh my goodness. Well let...you know how I feel from my column this week. I think things have become a little bit scattered. Um...Paul...if you just limit this conversation to taxes alone, you have some sense that people, normal humans in America, might be getting a little bit nervous about health care and energy care and all of this stuff. America has a huge deficit. We've never seen anything like it before.

Spending is very big. A Warren Buffet, who people tend to trust on economic matters says look, this energy thing the House just passed is a big tax. Health care, the Congressional Budget Office says is probably $1.8 trillion over the next ten years...

Krugman: No...it's not...

Noonan: Well, without gettin' into the weeds, you gotta' assume it's going to cost money. We've got California going under. We've got New York with I think a $20 billion deficit. They're going to be raising taxes. Income taxes are going to be going on up. At a certain point, you've got to realize, people are going to say "Whoa...this is no good. You've got to stop this." (crosstalk) Yes.

The only scattered thing here is Peggy's brain. Would anyone else be very happy if this woman stopped explaining her views on the air like she was talking to a bunch of two year olds?

Par for the course, Parker later chimes in with Peggy's "things are moving way too fast" meme, prefacing it with saying she doesn't want to argue with an economist... and then arguing with an economist. I'll stick with Paul Krugman as to whose advice I'd care to listen to, thank you very much Kathleen.

Noonan follows up with one of the more ridiculous statements heard on all of the Sunday shows I managed to catch this week. Obama will be oh so lucky if the Republicans get back control of the Congress in 2010, because we all know how well that worked out for Bill Clinton.

Noonan: He may be overplaying his hand and if he is, it will be unlucky for the Democrats in 2010. Although I happen to think the luckiest thing long term that could happen to Obama is, he gets a Republican Congress, and he'll be saved like Clinton was in 1994. That would be a good thing for Obama, and he's a lucky guy and he may get lucky. But they'd better watch out for overplaying their hand!

Um...Peggy...he doesn't have a Democratic Congress now if you're worried about checks and balances. He's got a bunch of corporate DINO's that are as bad or worse for him than just having the Republicans in charge would be in the Senate. He's got a pile of DINO Blue Dogs in the House who they are constantly giving cover to in order to keep them in their seats.

And if you think having a Republican Congress "saved" Bill Clinton in 1994, I want to know what the hell you're smokin'. Heaven forbid a little thing like impeachment hearings was bad for President Clinton. And having him working with Republicans sure as hell wasn't good for the country. All it brought us was deregulation of the financial industries and media markets, and lousy trade deals. Of course none of that matters in the people like Peggy Noonan's world. As long as she's getting paid the big bucks to write her column, what does she care what happens to the rest of us?

...that the stupidest people are the ones MOST likely to employ ccondescension in the midst of serious debate?

She's just projecting...'cause she can't get lucky.

She sounds like that dizzy/ditzy beauty contestant from South Carolina. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj3iNxZ8Dww

Noonan has got some balls to talk smack to a brain like Krugman.

She hates Palin, we have to give her that.

Typical repig. "They're gonna raise your taxes!!!! Tax cuts for the wealthy will strengthen the economy! The sky is falling! This is all Clinton's Obama's fault!"

Sheesh! What an asshhole!

"They're gonna raise your taxes!!!! Tax cuts for the wealthy will strengthen the economy! The sky is falling! This is all Clinton's Obama's fault!"

Every time the GOP reverts to this mantra...their poll numbers drop.

Keep talking, Peggy...keep talking.

with a $175 a year increase in taxes if the ecconomy improves enough for a person to increase their income by $200 a month?

And regarding a public option for health care; what's with this mentality that some people have that they're okay paying sky-high prices for unreliable private health insurance, but they go postal over the idea of paying a little more in taxes for health care that will be there when they need it?

Sheesh! What an asshhole!

I don't care for the rest of her either.

....all that's left is the hair.

Noonan: ...$1.8 trillion over the next ten years...

Krugman: No...it's not...

Noonan: Well, without gettin' into the weeds, you gotta' assume it's going to cost money.

And thats what passes for intelligent conversation in this country about incredibly important issues. And its all just about partisanship. There's no hope.

We could all be on fire and all that would happen is repubs would argue about the moral correctness of their water, while dems would sincerely believe in the effectiveness of their water, but wouldn't have the balls to stand up for it.

Noonan should be taken only in very small doses and only by those in complete control of their faculties (and not while operating heavy machinery, etc.)

She has a voice in our national conversation.

I am not dissing you but I hate the "newspeak" words like oppurtunities and challenges and conversation. Conversation implies two way communication. I feel there is no communication between working people and Noonan. She doesn't communicate anything that isn't corporately approved. There is an old saying, you are known by the company you keep. You know who she hangs out with.

It's foolish to assume there are two equally valid and reasonable sides to every argument.

the sky is blue

performance that is the MSM. Peggy Noonan is given a national profile because she, deliberately or not, helps obscure reality from the American public. She's a political fog machine.

She's a political fog machine.
I agree, she's a foggin machine, alright all right/wrong.

She has voices in her head.

I can't even click on these videos anymore. I can't even look at that face.

The luckiest thing that could happen to Obama long term just happened. Clinton bashing hypocrite Mark Sanford about to go down in his hypocritical flames putting Mittens, Newt, Palin and Bobby the page Jindal back as the GOP front runners for 2012!

Palin/Cantor 2012!

The only thing luckier that could happen to Obama right now is if party boss Limbaugh announced he was running in 2012.

Minnesota Supreme Court rules in Franken's favor!

Ok, second luckiest thing!

Limbaugh/Sanford 2012!

crazy dumb christian/crazy dumb jew

it embarrases me that cantor is a part of my tribe

what tribe? real estate agents?

Some non-Jews may be unfamiliar with the use (among jews) of the term "tribe" to refer to jews. It can be used in many circumstances, for example:

A "Hi, I'm Bob Greenberg"

B "Ah, a member of the tribe. I'm Sol Epstein"

(Obvious jewish names chosen to illustrate the point)

when noonan addresses krugman and says she doesn't want to get into the "weeds" it's kind of like if she was debating gravity's effect on a new satellite with a nasa physicist, but doesn't want to get bogged down with physics.

"without getting into the weeds" = "I don't want to argue with you based on the facts cause I'll get the shit kicked out of me so I'll just wave my hands and speak with more emotion"

Noonan KNOWS she can't win a debate with Krugman on the facts, because she was obviously sitting at home months ago watching Krugman pummel George Will, who the right wing pundits hail generally as their intellectual standard-bearer.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yAyQV8gOjo

Peggy is trying to appear and sound relevant but try as she might, she isn't.

Seems she doesn't want to go into details or as she so daintily calls them "weeds". Let's see who would know about numbers Peggy or Paul? Peggy is a freakin' speech writer and what other credentials does she possess?

I care about her opinion about as much as I care about my neighbor's opinion....and I don't give a damn about my neighbor's opinion.

Did Noonan just basically admit that the Republicans are so incompetent and out of favor with the American people that the best thing that could happen for Obama in 2012 is that they take the congress in 2010? Things are bleak for the GOP when one of their biggest cheerleading shills makes a statement like that!

When a Republican speaks the truth it's usually by accident like Noonan just did! Sorry Peggy but I don't see Obama getting that "lucky" though!

Obama has a wonerful wife.
He doesn't need to get lucky with noonan nooner.
That's not lucky.

what other credentials does she possess?

Former Republican trampoline?

MN Supreme Ct Affirms Franken wins senate seat.

http://rawstory.com/08/news/2009/06/30/minnes...

how long will Pawlenty stall signing certification?

as long as he can and longer.

both of these people have no idea what they are talking about. in my opinion this is very obvious. sure it can be said people may be concerned. there's a lot to be concerned about. one being if NOthing is done regarding healthCare cost/insurance coverage the demographic of uninsured/under insured is going to grow/increase. if NOthing is done/changed healthCare cost is going to double in less than 10 yrs.LOOK it's real simple the the cost is going to increase and the uninsured is going to increase. these people will still be in the healthCare system. the COST to cover these people will SHIFT to the public as a HIDDEN TAX. i'm personally not falling for the noonan and parker's pointless DRAMATICs. people including these two mentioned need to think beyond next week.

Doesn't he already have a GOP congress?

Because it sure doesn't look and act like a Democratic congress.

It always seems to be the well heeled who find taxes more of a problem than the health of Americans. Sure people like Noonan and probably everyone on that show have some of the best healthcare money can buy so really, let's not go into debt to help someone else. That is the difference in the two parties. Dems care about their fellow man and repubs care about keeping their pocket books full.

"Al Franken received the highest number of votes legally cast and is entitled [under Minnesota law] to receive the certificate of election as United States Senator from the State of Minnesota," the court wrote.

Let's see if Pawlenty keeps his word and certifies Franken.

damned if he don't.

I like Minnesota (which looks rather tame compared to Oklahoma).

that pawlenty doesnt certify

al will get his seat when its time for him to start his reelection bid

...called "Nothing to Fear," examining FDR's first 100 days in office. Lo and behold, I come across the passage of the Banking Act of 1933, aka the Glass-Steagall Act. Yeah, a GOP Congress working with Clinton sure did wonders, like Phil Gramm getting Glass-Steagall repealed and Clinton signing on. There went the barriers in the banking and investment industries. As the walls came tumbling down, so did the mortgage industry.

that's a point that can't be stressed enough. healthCare insurance companies develop their own too big to fail. this is done by aquisition/buy out. krugman makes a good point "what competition?". the corporate elites cry out UNfair competition. that's exactly the strategy they have been using for years. monopoly with PRICE fixing/control. they don't want competition. that's the problem that obama has been saying over and over. that's why cost is gotten and will continue to rise. little to NO competition.the private industry is afraid of competition. they like control and a predictable outcome to assure profit margin and less guessing for WallStreet.

And maybe if we get really lucky we could get a Republican President in 2012?

I think its time we all stop putting so much stock in presidents. Forget about political parties and realize this is a government bought and paid for by special interests. As many fundamental political differences as Republicans and Democrats outside of Washington have, there is a growing consensus that we are all getting ripped off. This is not a representative government.

Minnesota Supreme Court declares Franken winner of Senate Seat

Time to appeal to the 5 election stealing conservative activist judges on the supreme court.

Insurance companies are not in business to make or keep you well, they are in business to make money. Same with banks, they aren't in business to take care of you financially, they too are in business to make money.

If the present insurance companies are fighting an alternative, it's soley because they are afraid they will lose money.

Why does Noonan always talk like she's on Zoloft?

I'm on zoloft. Do my comments sound like Peggy Noonan? Shit. Sad bear.

LOL

"Why does Noonan always talk like she's on Zoloft?"

I was thinking Valium, maybe spiced up with Percocet.

they just happen to have d's beside their names

what he doesnt need, is a wingnut congress of fucktards like michelle bachman, and that is what he will get if the repukes retake congress

cuz the repukes have purged all the moderates from their fold...and they have become dems

and peggy is a condescending bitch

to say Obama is moving faster then a speeding bullet, yes to fix the porblems caused by the Republican party. They say the best thing could be to get a Republican congress? yeah, so they can hunt him like they did to Clinton? Looking for any hint of a mistake so they can get him out and get their criminal party back into power.

FUCK THE REPUBLICANS! I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW ANYONE CAN SUPPORT THE ENEMY OF AMERICA PARTY.

It's not that the Republican Party is the "Enemy of America Party", they just believe in a two class system of those who have and those who have not. Privilege is what is all about with Republican ideology where only those with money have a seat at the decision making table.

Everything they do is all in the spirit of Cheap Labor. Everything!

<>

Roll back the REAGAN tax cuts and it would pay for health care.

I agree, but watch out...you might make a Republican cry if you talk badly about Reagan or the fact that his tax cuts to the wealthy gave us the Homeless epidemic, the crack problem, he closed down the drug rehabs only to have his wife tell everyone to "just say no" and he launched criminal wars in Nicaragua, set up death squads in Honduras, and traded illegal arms to Iran.

All with the help of the Bush Crime Family. Now That's Family Values!

..he raised taxes in all but two (?) of his years as President.

Peggy's been unhappy since Reagan last rolled off of her.

any solid/absolute reference(s) by economists/agencies to back that statement/claim?

roll back razygun taxcuts

and have spare change left over.

You think mush is good for us or just that we like it?

Don't drink the milk..

..its spoiled!

Minnesota court rules Democrat Al Franken won Senate seat
Tue Jun 30, 2009 2:21pm EDT MINNEAPOLIS (Reuters) - The Minnesota Supreme Court on Tuesday declared Democrat Al Franken the winner of a tight U.S. Senate race over Republican Norm Coleman, which should give Democrats the 60-seat majority they need to overcome procedural obstacles and push through their agenda.

http://www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/idUSTR...

hahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Instead of a repugnant congress we're getting a more Democratic congress, which can only be good for America. With this nonsense, this absurd hag has proven she is not to be taken seriously and should get off the national idiot box.

we need Pawlenty to certify. Second, we need to get the blue dogs to go with this very important issue, healthcare reform.

But don't put it past Coleman to continue to act like the little bitch he is...this guy is a Republican after all and they are more concerned with winning then serving.

Or

Obstructing instead of governing and caring about America.

VIDEO: We recently made sure Norm and his DC funders directly got the message that thousands of us are donating $1 each day Norm Coleman refuses to concede

...for a late breaking outbreak of sanity from Pottersville.

Call him Senator Al Franken. Thank you.

We resume our regularly scheduled Republican lunacy, already in progress.

Beware the politically obsessed. They are often bright and interesting, but they have something missing in their natures; there is a hole, an empty place, and they use politics to fill it up. It leaves them somehow misshapen.
--Peggy Noonan

Don't be mistaken... Warren Buffett is for Warren Buffett!

Warren Buffett Makes an Offer Goldman Sachs Can't Refuse:

Snip- Fabled investor Warren Buffett took advantage of the turmoil in the markets last week to make a shrewd $5 billion investment in the beleaguered but best-run major Wall Street securities firm, Goldman Sachs.

but I do expect recognition for predicting 60 seats over a year ago.

Back then everyone said I was crazy.

You're still crazy, nothing has changed. ;-)

Also a bit lucky, with Specter (Finger-in-the-wind, PA) changing to Dem.

Not that I'm complaining.....

Republicans are sick.

Is that irrelevant dopes like Noonan will just shut up. Yesterday we had to bear listening to her lovesick drivel about Sanford as if it were some lurid romance novel, not the blatantly irresponsible and cowardly act it was. Today's psychotic babbling is wishthink for a Republican congressional majority, which she thinks will make her failure of a party relevant and important.

Like Dr. King said, no lie lasts forever and truth pressed to the earth will rise again. The truth is rising Peggy and you are falling. The sooner Noonan and her circus freak colleagues realize this the sooner they will be better off.

But I ain't betting on a change in them any day soon.

what goes through Krugman's mind as he sits across from that dimwit.

what goes through Krugman's mind as he sits across from that dimwit.

"If only tits were brains."

The heart is associated, as the "brain"... interesting?

Amended: references upon request. ;)

I think by "weeds" she means facts. Something anathema to Rethuglicans.

facts have a liberal bias.

I think the word "loon" works here.

She's a loon.

Does Noonan even know what she's talking about? Ever?

Just another really ignorant, uneducated, Reslug Whore spewing lies.

What makes Peggy Noonan think that anyone will vote for the party of womanizing, bathroom toe-tapping, diaper-wearing wife-leavers?

I think its high-time the GOP dump the Elephant as a symbol and start using the OSTRICH.

"...not to get into the weeds...{considering my drug of choice is a complex mixture of alcohol and Zoloft...say, Krugman, I didn't know you had a beard...oh look, at the pretty lights,...what was I jabbering about anyways? oh yes}..., you've got to assume it's got to cost money..."

hilarious!

"Without getting into the weeds" means that Noonan didn't want to include facts or details. You know, those important things that can determine who is right or wrong in a debate.

Peggy Noonan - Live Concern Troll.

Well, I think that Americans are, are really as stupid as I am and that the Democrats are just (sigh with fake passion) overplaying their hand. (tsk, then sigh with fake passion).....(ohhhhhhhh)

Somebody needs to gobstop her, I'm serial.

Only 18% of Americans are as stupid as you Peggy.

And methinks it will be at least another 60 years before the American people ever make the mistake of electing a republican congress again.

You baby boomer greedheads will go down in history as the generation NOT to emulate.

California, like the entire country is going under because of the REPUBLICAN PARTY!!!

These people go below deck, drill holes in the hull of the country, and then when it's about to go down, come to the pilothouse and blame the guys manning the pumps for not keeping the ship afloat.

How long will it be before these people get stoned in the streets?

A good idea to me!

)O(

Haven't you heard yet beotch?

It's Senator Franken now.

Can you make more wishes for us now?

I think Father Guido Sarducci was more Senatorial.

--pull her head out of her beltway ass just once and maybe read some of these comments? And then go and listen to what the people are saying in the rest of America, which is the Real America, not the self-serving myopic America of Washington.

Only in Peggy's little pea-sized brain.....

The crazyness? republicans always have that crazy look in their eye's.
That is one of the reasons it is a confirmed fact that.
republicanism is a mental illness!

I love the screen cap, it's that batshit crazy look she wears so well.

that so few (the health insurance lobby)have kept so many (just about all Americans) so stupid for so long? I really don't see national health care in the US' future. The lies the American people are told is shameful.

Noonan is another swooning airhead. All that rhapsodizing about St. Ronnie really did a number on her.

BID

... Coleman has conceded. So it's indeed Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.).

Ah, it was nice typing that...

BID

Does she really get paid for spewing this crap?? Geez...Where do I sign up?

The only thing Peggy Noonan and Kathleen Parker want is for the status quo to go on for eternity.

Get over it, bitches. Your idiot party lost. The American people voted for change. I'm smart enough to realize that it's not going to come instantly, so I'm not blaming Obama for the intransigence...YET. I am willing to cut the man some slack, he is fighting a battle against deeply entrenched forces, and airheads like Noonan and Parker are part of the problem.

Maybe you forgot. Republicans dragged America into a ditch, hit us over the head with a shovel and left us for dead, half buried six inches deep. That's where the weeds are, Peggy. Where you buried America, you Reagan crack whore.

Funny thing

Congress is often used as a euphemism for f**king.

This annoying has been loves the sound of her overly dramatic voice. She believes each word that comes out of her trap is a masterpiece

Moron = Noonan below:

Moron: Health care, the Congressional Budget Office says is probably $1.8 trillion over the next ten years...

Krugman: No...it's not...

Moron: Well, without gettin' into the weeds, you gotta' assume it's going to cost money.

Well without actually using your brain and just pulling numbers out of your tight right ass, you could just make up whatever shit you liked. Hmmmm, make shit up, that's an idea. Just make it up as you go along and don't care if people can prove you wrong. Saying it over and over again is just as good as it being true.

Oh, and make sure you sound like someone's grandmother, that will make them believe your mountain of shit even more.

The luckiest thing for Obama -- and for America for that matter -- would be if FoxNews went off the air, and for O'Reilly Hannity Beck to get laryngitis or maybe a brain trainsplant.

A Republican Congress is wishful thinking on the Republican Party's part. They shot their wad from 2001-2008 by lying us into a war, acting as a rubber-stamp Congress for the shenanigans of the Bush administration, exercising no oversight over anything done from 2001-2006, grinding down the economy until we have a deep recession, etc. etc.

needs to be wheeled back to the home.

or is it just ignorance or stupidity? I CONSTANTLY hear Republicans talk about how it was the Republican Congress that got the government a budget surplus and balanced the budget and everything in the Clinton years, but then this begs the question - what the hell happened in the Bush years? If Republicans are so great, why did the surplus suddenly go away during the years they controlled Congress and the White House?

I also think that if Republicans also want to continue this idea that this is Obama's economy now (which they've started doing), then they must concede finally that George W. Bush is the one that allowed 9/11 to happen - not Clinton. They also need to concede that if they are going to blame Democrats for everything that goes wrong from this time forward, then Republicans are to blame for all the problems that happened or started before the 2006 elections when Democrats got slight control in Congress.

It's very intellectually dishonest, these games that Republicans play, but Democrats are also the ones that allow them to play them.
