O'Reilly and DeMint Play Concern Trolls for Grandpa McCain
It was Bill O'Reilly and Jim DeMint's turn to pretend like no one has ever cut a Senator's time on the floor short tonight on the O'Reilly Factor. Bill-O and 'PrayerCast' member Jim DeMint do a little bit of history revision and pretend like Grandpa McCain hasn't done the exact same thing himself. So nice of them to show such concern for Joe Lie-berman while ignoring that McCain himself has acted a whole lot worse. Little wonder that O'Reilly would lash out at Franken since he's been mocking Bill-O since his days at Air America Radio.
Franken's spot where he panned O'Reilly for pretending like he served in battle on his radio show and his book Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them had to have gotten under O'Reilly's skin. If anyone out there has the recording of that segment on Air America, let the site know. I'd love to post it if I could find it.
As Think Progress noted, McCain was more than happy to cut off a Democratic Senator's time during the Iraq war debate. Now he's got memory lapse. Apparently it's too much to ask O'Reilly or DeMint to tell the truth about that in this segment. Fox News... unfair and unbalanced.
I'm still trying to figure out why the staff at Hardball could find footage of John McCain from back in 2002 cutting off another member of the Senate when the Rachel Maddow Show said they couldn't find it in the C-SPAN archives. Very strange.
UPDATE: My mistake on the Hardball/Rachel Maddow show segments. Matthews showed a different clip and not the one Rachel's staff could not find. At least both of those shows, unlike O'Reilly, bothered to point out that McCain is a huge hypocrite with his feigned outrage towards Franken "picking on" his buddy Lieberman when all Al was doing is following the directions given to him by Harry Reid.
h/t to David who sent on the O'Reilly in combat segment. I had thought this might have been Mike Stark but it wasn't. The one thing this is missing is the Franken show's mockery of it, not that it needs it to be funny as hell. Enjoy.

Mike Stark getting through with him to his show and the Frankin show recorded it and had a field day with it. Stark called him out for never actually being in combat but just a reporter and O'Reilly got so hopping mad he hung up on him, but not before Stark made a fool out of him. Before Mike made a name for himself over at Daily KOS and his other blog, MyLeftWingNut I believe, he used to manage to fool both O'Reilly and Hannity's screeners and get through to their radio shows all the time.
I've looked and looked for that segment to see if anyone had it posted and never could find it.

What happened in 2002 was somewhat complicated. What was in the missing clip was Senator Mark Dayton from Minnesota asking for extra time and John McCain objecting, then Senator Byrd gave Dayton some of his time so Dayton could finish. Hardball did not have that video clip.
The video clip Hardball showed was a later when Senator Byrd got up to speak. He asked to have his time returned and again McCain objected. Of course the experienced Senator Byrd was able to shame McCain into withdrawing his objection.
you're right. I thought he showed it but it was a similar event and not the one Rachel couldn't find. I swear Tweety's getting on my last nerve any more where I half way tune him out when he's on. His constant talking over his guests is getting worse and not better and he flops with which side of an issue he's on like the wind. As long as he thinks he's pissing off the netroots he's happy.

DON'T KNOCK RACHEL!!! My cable system does not carry MSNBC and with only a dial-up connection, watching her online is out of the question. But what little bit I get from downloading the video clips and reading items about her here, she comes across as legit and a straight shooter. Plus from what I can determine, she is the only legitimate reporter who touches some of the subjects that she takes on.
If you know where some of those videos of McCain are, don't you think it would be a public service -- as well as a respectful thing to do -- to forward the clips or URLs for the clips to her? What find strange is the fact that a liberal site would make a comment about her anywhere close to the remark in quotes up above. Or IS this REALLY a liberal site?
Heather made a mistake, thinking the above video was the one Rachel tried to find (which involved McCain refusing Sen. Dayton. This video is still missing AFAIK). But now we have two instances (we know of) where McCain refused to allow a Senator to continue: one against Dayton and one against Byrd.
... but I think it's the same instance that involved both Byrd and Dayton. The video Rachel had on had Dayton speaking, then it cut out, then Byrd was speaking.
Purely speculation, but I think it's possible Dayton was using time he was allotted from Byrd so that Byrd had to request unanimous consent for Dayton to finish.

Do a text search for "mccain. I object" (without the quotes). You'll see two instances, one after the other, where McCain objects to Dayton first, and then Byrd.
