Marsha Blackburn does a good job of turning into a drama queen when it suits her, doesn't she? During the debate on the House floor over the health care bill being voted on today, Blackburn railed on about who's going to pay for this. I want to know when she's ever asked the same question about paying for war funding?

I think of Bachmann and Schmitt as co-regents of crazy-town but Blackburn and a few others might want the title.

I really don't turn to that term unless it's a woman that says or does something so outrageously hateful, asinine and stupid, that just no other word applies aka "a Coulter". this watered down bill passes (and at this point I'm at the "WTF, pass ANYTHING!" stage) the key talking point for 2010 and 2012 is that the Republicans offered NO substantial (or even unsubstantial!) bill of their own. The only hope we have at this point is to get more progressives elected and push them to modify and improve on this first long-overdue step.
If the controlling group in the democratic party are really republicans elected on the democratic ticket...
Just as the republicans do wheb they use the independent party to run their candidates.

Remember he fought against Dean so he could give the democratic funds to the candidates he which and they look as if they were all republicans...

Of course Dems want to hold more offices than Repugs, but neither wants the other eliminated because the existence of two parties gives the appearance of diversity, and if a third (or more!) party arose, each would lose some power. So they fight for the status quo to continue.

How is it that there are no laws, rules or procedural moves that can be implemented when an elected official steps right up and just flat out knowingly and demonstrably lies while in Congressional session?

I would equate a person lying in Congress about the public's business to a person lying about their balance sheet at a stock holders meeting.
You can't knowingly lie about the balance sheet or you go to jail for fraud.
Same thing, freedom of speech does not include telling falsehoods in official scenarios.
Not to mention slander and libel.
It's hard to prosecute such matters criminally, unless someone is personally benefiting from it.
However, one could still remain exposed to multiple civil causes.
However, court officials, and probably legal officials took, enjoy immunity to a large extent from such civil suits, if what they did was in pursuance of their jobs.
Congress would have to enforce it's own rules of conduct as per Article I, Sec. V, pp II.
Marsha has clearly forgotten that the end of the world already occured in Oct 2008, and all we can do now is slow the descent.

War costs are partially hidden

Because of the so called-"Black Books" accounting in security sensitive areas.
And even then, it's probably only a select sub-committee in each house, that actually sees actual documents and war costs, and reports to the committee who brings it to their respective chambers to vote on unseen.

That's a good question. But since we pay 50% more per capita than other industrial countries, the reasonable answer is... to copy what these other countries are doing, namely single payer. I don't see any value in paying a risk premium to insurance any more than large businesses do, most being self-insured. When a mandate is made to insure a nation, paying a risk premium is idiotic, and the savings by eliminating the risk premium would alleviate Ms. Blackburn's cost concerns.
But, we're in the false dichotomy where, like politics in general, we're left to a choice between bad (the Dem's plan), or worse (Repub's do nothing plan). Since the health care debate is a symptom, and the underlying disease is corruption in Congress, and the underlying disease isn't being addressed, for now, I think I'll support the Dems approach in dealing with the current symptom.
This lady is nuts; nuts for conservative Jeebus and all things regressive. Living in TN for the last several years is a unique experience.
It is just an extension of the eliminationist mindset - the RWNJ's are scared of health kids growing up to be healthy progressives and liberals.

America can no longer financially afford to pay for its Military Empire any longer. It is now very, very unsustainable to do so....it's helping to BANKRUPT AMERICA!!!! Tell Pelosi, Hoyer and Reid to get their priorities in order, and end the Bush era military gluttony....The Dems are in power now and should end all this unsustainable military adventurism....Yet, the Democratic Party may take the country into another war with Iran if the likes of Dennis Ross and Richard Holbrooke get their way.
The Democratic Party and the Obama administration, however, unfortunately passed a Defense Budget Bill which surpassed George W. Bush's!!!
The United States (both political parties) truth be told have no intention on ending wars or reducing defense spending. It will cut entitlement programs so long as the defense contractors get their money.....

I bet most of those morons at the mall have no idea that Reagan was such a financial fuck-up for this country, or that he raised taxes six times when he found his trickle down theories blowing up in his face.
