As Karoli and I already posted, Rep. Anthony Weiner ripped into the Republicans for blocking the 9-11 Responders Bill. What neither of us had earlier was Rep. Peter King's hackery on the House floor that set him off. Since Countdown covered it, I thought I'd share it here.

TPM also caught their exchange on Fox News the day after the dust up on the House floor where Anthony Weiner ripped into Pete King again.

Peter King And Anthony Weiner Shout Their Way Through A Fox News Interview (VIDEO):

Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) went on an apoplectic rant on the House floor last night, and apparently he hasn't cooled off much since then.

Earlier this morning, Weiner and Rep. Peter King (R-NY) shouted and finger-pointed their way through a Fox News interview over a bill that would provide health care to rescue workers effected by the dust from the World Trade Center, which failed in the House last night.

King accused the Democrats of orchestrating a "cruel hoax" with the bill, while Weiner called it "outrageous" that Republicans would vote against it.

Weiner was furious last night that most of the "cowardly" Republicans voted against the bill and then blamed it on "procedure." Exclaimed Weiner: "You vote yes if you believe yes! You vote in favor of something if you believe it's the right thing! If you believe it's the wrong thing, you vote no!"

On America's Newsroom today, King, who is the ranking Republican on the House Committee on Homeland Security, said that "the bottom line is the Democrats control the House, and they pulled a procedural gimmick starting ten days ago, and they lost the nerve to bring it to the floor on a real vote."

He also called the whole situation a "cruel hoax," and accused the Democrats of "moral cowardice."

"They control the House," said King. "They could have passed this."

Weiner shot back: "You know for all the whining about the process, we had an up-or-down vote. Do you know what percentage of Republicans voted for it? Seven percent." Only twelve Republicans voted in favor of the bill.

"Your rant last night about the process and how bad the process was gave cover for your colleagues," said Weiner adding, "Twelve Peter? That's all you could muster?"

Today's Republicans don't believe that intelligence, logic, compassion, honesty or an acknowledgment of historical facts or legal precedents are relevant or worthy of consideration.

Driving jobs out of America and Americans out of their homes is "just business" to them; nothing "personal".

Corporations should be given the same first amendment free speech rights as individual citizens so they can "buy" political candidates and elections, despite the fact that works against the best interests of working class Americans and further diminishes their political relevance/influence.

Pollution, global warming and deforestation are all improvable "myths" of egg-head/tree-hugger scientists who are “socialist” enemies of “over-regulated” capitalism. The earth, which is no more than 6,000 years old, will miraculously heal itself! All we have to do is “pray”.

For today's mercenary self-focused soulless hybrid of dysfunctional near-sighted Republicans, it's not about right or wrong, good or bad, fair or unfair, rational or irrational.....it's about power and control, even if that means intellectual, moral, psychological and functional ignorance, delusion, denial and dishonesty. They want what they want for no other reason than they WANT it……regardless of the consequences to themselves and everyone else! Somehow, that makes "them" feel good about themselves.

Your statement :
"Corporations should be given the same first amendment free speech rights as individual citizens so they can "buy" political candidates and elections, despite the fact that works against the best interests of working class Americans and further diminishes their political relevance/influence."

It is not because it works against anyone. It is a STUPID precedent for the Treasonous SCOTUS to set BECAUSE, CORPORATIONS DO NOT VOTE. WHy should they enjoy ANYTHING having to do with elections, since they cannot vote. Its like they can now have undue influence on the giving of blood. BEYOND stupid, it is treasonous. The founding fathers would slit the teasonous SCOTUS five's throat if they could.

Yes, they want to vote on the issue at hand not have unrelated republican BS amendments about guns immigration and tax cuts attached.

The republicans still insist on throwing in the reference to the “Democrat” party. It’s no big deal (and they will claim it’s an honest mistake) but it does show that when it comes to bipartisanship and changing the tone in Washington, NOTHING is going to come from them.

once you see King's clip. Some of the news only showed Weiner - because they would rather you think he's just some crazy dem.

King is a real POS. His logic, er illogic, was almost unfathomable. It was truely appalling. I wonder how hard it must be not to yell at these cowardly bastards every single day.

This is one of the best played moves I have seen from a Democrat yet.

Did you see how calm Weiner looked while King was all about interrupting and pointing his finger in Weiner's face?

Maybe it's the choice of the clip, but Weiner looked like he was in complete command of the situation and King was flailing around!!

It's not unknown for Democrats to have the truth on their side and loose anyway because they don't know how to play the hand. . but those are some winning optics Mr. Weiner!

Have you seen their discussions lately? No moderation whatsoever and ad personam insults all over the place. A friend submitted a news item to them, no acknowledgement. Have a question? No answer. In short: The exact opposite of here.

On topic: As a European I am appalled at the complacency the Democratic Party shows when it comes to GOP obstructionism. Our media would have torn them apart. Representative Weiner is refreshingly different. He calls their bluff by just stating facts and insists to have his say. Small wonder they get nervous each time he's close to a mic. Good man.

Our media has been hijacked by the Republicans.
Same thing happened to religion.
Same thing happened to science.
It's a crying shame the media won't admit it and be reformed.

So that explains the media.
We're on our own here. No media really. Not a real media.
Not a media independent from Republicans.
Republicans are an integral part of the news cycle dance.

When they're gone, we get our media back, hopefully.
and our science. We'll get that back too.

And we'll get our religions back. Even for Muslims, atheists, and the followers of Joe Smith too. :)

Peter King is a lockstep asswipe. A lemming.

Census results. NY is slated to lose a congressional seat and the Democrat-controlled legislature should select this area to target to redistrict. make it as tough for a fu** like King to get elected as possible. he really has to go.

Thank you Scumbag Skelos for drawing the new lines that gave us the likes of this piece of shit. Skelos is another not long for this seat dirtbag. HE is why we in NY have had the most fucked up year of State legislatures. HE lead the redistricting of the state into an EQUAL number of districts. So, what do you expect happened....50/50 split of Dems and REscumbags. NOTHING IS GETTING ACCOMPLISHED BECAUSE OF THESE FUCKING REPUBLICANS.

Nancy was right...JUST SAY NO to REPUBLICANS.

I'm not completely certain, because the bill has been introduced more than once, but I believe this is the roll call for the version that the House just voted down. It's called the, "James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010," aka H.R. 847.

King is a Republican.

They don't belong anywhere near Washington any more, period.

No more than the Nazi, or the Communist parties do.

Now that they would re-write the constitution, they fit well into the above group. What's the difference.

Here's the explanation:

Republicans are raving mad. They have just been hiding that fact
very, very well, for a very, very long time. It's shameful but they
duped us all now going on over sixty years. This latest crop just
got too out of control to hide it.

Now that their vulgar deceptions and cheats are widely known to all,
they have opened the curtain even more, to let us see deeper into their madness.

When a Republican wins an election he/she will certainly take it as
a mandate to enact their madness into law.

If everyone in America knows that Republicans represent only the
richest 1% of them, by this November, we won't have anything to
worry about.

The "procedure" wasn't so onerous that Peter King couldn't vote yes on the bill without doing great bodily harm to himself.

Why did he think it was too onerous for his fellow Republicans to vote yes on it? Are they really so delicate and sensitive?

Still if Weiner had gotten 254 Dem votes, he would have had a stronger argument. Why did 11 Dems not vote for the bill? Who were they?

Bean

Bright
Cooper

7 didn't vote
Carney
Clay

So sad what we're living under these days, here in the U.S. of (greed and power) A.(ddiction). It's called a coup de etat. No huge suprise that G.O.P. and, tragically, Dem. puppets of our billionaire rulers would screw these good, truly compassionate and patriotic first responders to 9/11.

As a truly concerned Grandmother for Peace, I urge all who share my concerns (as my Irish kin would say, God knows there are plenty of ye) to daily do whatever you are good or gifted at, and let's begin the long, hard task of working together to.....UNDO THE COUP!

Blog away on friendly and not always so friendly sites, submit letters to the editor, go to rally's and hold up signs, print out a slogan on your computer printer, in bold face, giant sized caps (i.e. HEALTHCARE NOT WARFARE, Grand Oil Party, BAN SPOOK FUSION, etc.)and tape into the rear window of your car. It's called poor boy/poor girl window stickers.

Sadly but truly, we have little choice but to spread our concerns re. peace and justice by word of mouth and via the internet, and be our own media. So nearly totally controlled by the corporate and military/industrial/terror complex is so much of today's "mess media" that we have have no choice but to get and keep active and speaking out in any and all peaceful ways that we are able.
