On HBO's Real Time last night, Bill Maher did a segment on how the media has set up a new rule for Donald Trump. Heather wrote about it today for C&L, but I wanted to focus on a small part of Maher's critique, which was squarely aimed at Fox News' Megyn Kelly.

She damaged her reputation and probably all hopes of having her own interview show on network TV, when she hyped her big interview with Trump, but turned it into a Fox and Friends skit. She got so angry with her reviews that she lashed out at her own critics.

When Reason's Matt Welch proclaimed that Megyn Kelly talks truth to power, Maher vehemently disagreed

Maher said, "Megyn Kelly? Excuse me, can we go through this bullshit for a second?” said Maher. “Megyn Kelly asked [Trump] one tough question at the debate—one tough question—and then of course, the stupid media anoints her as a genius because she asked one tough question. For months, he’s just belittling her: she’s on the rag, she’s an idiot, she’s a bimbo, her ratings are terrible.

Then, she comes begging him for an interview where she says, ‘Nothing is gonna be out of bounds.’ You know what was out of bounds? Journalism. She didn’t ask one tough question. It was a profile in cowardice.”

Welch kept defending her, but it didn't matter. It was a cowardly interview.
