After this past Saturday's White House Correspondent's Dinner, Driftglass and I discussed what was highly likely to be a hostile response from the mainstream media. Larry Wilmore did the right thing, calling out the Beltway press directly for their fawning coverage of Donald Trump.

Notice no one at the MSNBC table is laughing.

Driftglass made an insightful comment: "I do hope Larry Wilmore gets a call from the only person whose response actually matters: Stephen Colbert should call him up and say good going."

Last night Stephen Colbert opened his monologue with that 'phone call.'

"Now personally, I thought Larry gave a great speech, that did not let the President or the press off the hook, And I am confident that Larry will receive the ultimate recognition for his work — never being invited back."

He also addressed the end of Larry's speech, which if you have ever watched The Nightly Show you know was not a racial slur or insult. But leave it to Colbert to put it in perspective.

"There was a little controversy, a moment at the end where Larry said the n-word. It was shocking, but it did lay the groundwork for President Trump to say it next year.”

In case you don't remember, Stephen Colbert's iconic, set-the-standard WHCD speech was not well received by its Beltway in-house audience, either.

Not a single Sunday show mentioned Colbert's speech the next morning. But certain bloggers did.

Holy Christ. Watching the Whores of Pennsylvania Avenue, and their retainers and lackeys in the MSM being fed, nipples first, through the Colbert Woodchipper it felt – for a moment – like a free country again.

Where people walk right up to trolls and monsters, bold as brass, and call them by their True Names.

It was – for that interval – a vision of a world, not without peril or enemies, but without fear.

Nevermind the wounded pride of the bothsider beltway lackeys. Stephen Colbert says Larry Wilmore's punches landed. That is all.
