Buttons and Mindy is yet another band I was introduced to by my friend over at Berklee, and I was not disappointed.

Their math rock sound is the result of instrumental proficiency and coordination which is hard to come by in a lot of musical acts these days. For starters, the precision with which they play is one of the best things about them, these guys hardly miss a not despite all that's going on within the arrangement. Second, they are extremely coordinated, by which I mean that they are able to employ several different techniques at once on their respective instruments, whether it be singing and playing lead lines simultaneously or holding down complex, polyrhythmic grooves. Plus, they've got some great material which is not only well-performed and thought-out, but it's fun to listen to. What all this boils down to is chemistry, and these guys have plenty of it. However, it was recently brought to my attention that, unfortunately, these guys might not be playing together anymore. While it's sad to see such a talented band come to the end of its course, they left behind some awesome tunes and hopefully inspired some other students at their school to form great bands of their own.
