The hero of this tale literally leaves most of himself behind in Laos during the Vietnam War and doesn't seem to be too pleased about it. As some of you know, there were quite a lot of songs about the Vietnam conflict, considering all of the cultural and musical changes that were going on at the time. This is definitely one of the more cutting works of that era and kind, but that sort of thing was definitely necessary considering the situation. Unfortunately, not much has changed since, but maybe if the message is conveyed more bluntly a la Van Ronk, people will start to get it.
