If you are a follower of Maher's Real Time or have watched him during some of his interviews on cable television after the Sanford sex scandal broke, you already know that Bill seems to think that Mark Sanford wasn't just experiencing some kind of mid-life crisis where he's reverted mentally back to the state of a teen with a very bad crush. He was really in love with his mistress. Okay Bill. Whatever you say. So nice to see you and the Kathleen and Peggy show are on the same page with that. I don't agree, but movin' on here.

What follows is actually very, very funny. Family values party, cheating on your wife, love struck by your Argentinian mistress emails, vs closeted homosexual, under age page chasing Mark Foley emails. These family values hypocrites continue to make Maher and other comedians' lives way too easy with material for their jokes. It's like shooting fish in a barrel these days.

Video warning...Not safe for work.

What do you know. It took Bill Maher cracking jokes on Hardball about Republican hypocrisy with their feigned outrage at the Sotomayor hearings to get Matthews to admit that his hero John McCain may have a bit of a "temperament" problem.

Matthews: I just love Lindsey Graham going after her today about anger management. And here's the guy who was the biggest supporter of John McCain, and he was, he wanted McCain to be President of the United States and he was wondering whether she might have a temperament problem. Did he ever check in with his number one hero on that point?

Maybe you should be asking yourself the same question, Chris. I don't ever remember you bringing up McCain's temper during his Presidential run.

Apparently not only is John Ensign refusing to resign from office, he's announced he's going to run for reelection in 2012. These Republicans just really have no shame, do they? But as Rachel reports, it doesn't look like he's getting very much support from his Republican colleagues.

MADDOW: A most unexpected development today in the sex and money and ethics scandal that continues to engulf Republican Senator John Ensign of Nevada. While there remain unanswered questions and un-followed leads, Ensign took a big leap today, declaring not only that he‘s not planning on resigning, but that he will also run for re-election three years from now.

In an interview with “The Las Vegas Sun,” Sen. Ensign said, quote, “I fully plan on running for re-election.” Of his supporters, he said, “I‘m going to work to earn their respect back.”

Sen. Ensign‘s process of earning back the respect of Nevada voters will, maybe, take some time. After calling on President Clinton to resign for having an affair while he was in office, after calling his Senate colleague, Larry Craig, a disgrace when Craig was caught in an airport public sex sting, calling on Craig to resign as well, by saying, “I wouldn‘t put myself, hopefully, in that kind of position, but if I was in a position like that, that‘s what I would do,” Sen. Ensign himself admitted to an affair with the wife of his former chief-of-staff.

He then said his mom and dad had given his mistress and her family a gift of $96,000 after Sen. Ensign told his parents about the affair. Still unanswered are questions about other cash deals associated with the affair.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee still not apologizing for or commenting on the fact that Ensign put the 19-year-old son of his mistress on the Republican Party‘s payroll during the time he was sleeping with the young man‘s mother. He then took the young man on the payroll once the affair ended.

Scandal du Jour - Bob Packwood

Bob Packwood resize_3158e.jpg

(Bob Packwood R-Oregon Alias: Mondo Johnson)

With all the current goings on with the Burris scandal, I was reminded that D.C. is just the place where scandal is the sort of "velcro suit" for odd behavior, odd ideas and perceived impunity.

I didn't single out the Bob Packwood sex scandal for any special focus. He sort of popped off the shelf as a reminder that scandals are a dime a dozen in the wonderful world of politics - DC is just rife with them, the heady atmosphere of power is an aphrodisiac for some, a "gentlemen, start your engines" for others. Bob and his wandering hands is just one of thousands.

And we are there.

"I am accused of kissing women . . .on occasion of perhaps over eagerly kissing women, and that is the crime. Not drugging, not robbing . . .kissing"

Um . . yeah, well, 10,000 pages of "just kissing" he forgets to mention the groping, fondling, stalking, "not-taking-no-for-an-answer" situations that kept popping over a period of twenty or so years.

The 'Moral Values' Folks

WORLD O'CRAP:   Overlapping Mistresses and Adultery For All!      Julia at Sisyphus Shrugged reminds us that President Bush has called us on to preserve the sanctity of marriage  -- you know, like his good friend Rudy Giuliani, who pushed for Bernie Kerik's nomination to the Bush cabinet, has.....When Kerik's girlfriend Judith Regan, the bitter, moralizing Clinton-hater, was on the FOX News Channel, there was a layer of vaseline over the camera lens the density of which was not been seen since Dynasty was in production.

More on Regan -- who published a book about how "nightmarish materialism ... threatens to destroy America, as we pursue money, sex, and power at the expense of family life, duty, and goodness" -- here.   Perhaps she had a duty to bed Bernie.
