Wael Ghonim addresses thousands in Tahrir Square (subtitled)
Video via The Guardian
Thousands of demonstrators in Cairo's Tahrir Square gave a hero's welcome to a Google executive and activist who has become a symbol of the country's anti-government movement.
================================================
REPORTER: Do you think you're going to succeed?
GHONIM: We don't care. We're going to do whatever we've got to do.
=================================================
Too cool.

A tweet from @Ghonim:

This may be only the beginning of the end for corporate loving dictators around the region. Wonder how long it will take to spread?
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
And I hope by region you mean planet earth.
this is a good example of a "dead man walking". You gotta admire the courage. In the U.S., not so much.
Go Wael!
Although, I think a gov. scared of facebook and twitter might not be such a bad thing in other context.

"...Google’s decision to abide by Chinese censors in the launch of its new google.cn search service is a blow against democratic rights and free speech that sets a dangerous precedent both in China and internationally."
"...But whatever Brin’s personal feelings about Chinese censorship, or the company’s desire to bolster its liberal reputation associated with the motto “Don’t be evil,” Google’s actions in going along with state censorship have strengthened that authoritarian regime. Google’s actions in China reveal that the overriding concern for Google, as with all the other corporations making inroads into the country, is profit..."

....and now has it's servers in Hong Kong, partially to avoid the censorship. Google continues to lose market share in China as a result.

Has anyone complained yet about the intrusive Flash ad for dishwasher cleaner that plays over and over again? On a site that features flash videos that we actually want to see I find it quite annoying. Anyone agree?

Use an ad blocker. Problem solved.

Although C&L is the only site that I don't block with Adblocker. I have a feeling that flash thing may be a symptom of something else, perhaps not having pop ups disabled? I haven't seen anything like that and if I did I would change adblocker to start blocking this site as well.
Instead of loading any flash (not just adds), this add-on loads a symbol you can click if you want to run the flash.

thanks
the answers we need to help track this down.
Location on the site is important.
I've never seen it on the sidebar. Thanks for responding, this is my favourite site.
Personally I don't think flashes should play automatically even if they are site content. Except maybe someplace like Mark Fiore or Homestarrunner where they are the site's only content.

I sent John a copy of your post.
Boy we could use that message in America. Good post!!!

I look at Wael and listen to him and then leave the computer to see how high a wire beck is walking today with no net, and it makes me think about the differences in what human beings can accomplish. Beck brews fear every day while Wael is all about being fearless and strong. Do we have an American like Wael and does Egypt have a person like Beck?
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
Bill Hicks used to be fearless and strong patricia. And Egypt has Suleiman. We have plenty of fearless and strong people in the U.S. they just don't get covered enough or get overshadowed by the Lindsey Lohan and Sarah Palin news. Sibel Edmonds comes to mind, and other whistleblowers.. Etc.

Is it just me or does anyone else think this guy looks kinda evil in these pictures?
It's just you...

If only the American gov't had a fear of its people...
That could be arranged if we wanted to bad enough.

Looking at that crowd of extremely brave people I found myself fearing for their safety and simultaneously getting choked up over their bravery and naked humanity. I want to go there if I could and yell at the top my lungs that "I am an Egyptian to", as silly as that may sound.
