Even by Tea Party standards this one seems pretty low. Report by Dave Harding at Progress Ohio.

Video shot by the Columbus Dispatch from today's Honk and Wave in Support of Health Care at Congresswoman Mary Jo Kilroy's district office contains a segment wherein the teabaggers mock and scorn an apparent Parkinson's victim telling him "he's in the wrong end of town to ask for handouts", calling him a communist and throwing money at him to "pay for his health care".

The segment starts at 51 seconds into the video.

Video and report from the Columbus Dispatch.

Here's a sampling of Teabagger "logic":

"I don't see anyone laying in the street dying. We provide care for everyone," said Janet Popa, 61, of Upper Arlington.

"No one is turned away," said her friend, Ruth Phelps, 50, of Upper Arlington.

The women and others noted that hospitals cannot deny care to those who show up at emergency rooms.

Supporters dismissed concerns about cost and expanding the role of government.

"If we can find the money to kill people in wars, we can pay for this," said a Republican business owner from Westerville who declined to give her name. "We are paying anyway (with charity care for the uninsured)."

I think a whole lot of people were deriding Jesus the other day in Columbus. And they want to make this a so-called "Christian nation"? They don't know the first thing about Christ!

Christianity is the predominant religion, and Roman Catholicism is the official state religion according to its 1949 Constitution, which at the same time guarantees freedom of religion.

and contrary to what some might say we aint a 'christian' nation either, very low % of attenders (tho people do seem to nominate as 'christian' every time the census comes around). those that DO identify as such certainly dont behave in a disgusting fashion like this or Marshall tho. such people deeply offend me.

but still.... being a commie cos the man had Parkinsons? did the man get to CHOOSE if he developed Parkinsons? i seem to recall ideology is a choice, whereas Parkinsons and disabilities and so on are involuntary, more often than not.

have to agree with Oh Really - Health care NO! unnecessary death YES! they've proven Grayson right once again, the ideology is: Dont get sick, and if you do get sick, die quickly.

..Invest $50K on a farm or business, you'd get citizenship and permission to bring a car or truck into the country without the enormous tax burden that comes with it. Now, it's almost as tough as getting citizenship in this country. So, you're limited to three months and then you leave for a brief period and then can come back.

The "Christians" in the Rethuglican party are showing their stripes in a spectacular fashion. Jim Wallis, a prominent Christian author (Rediscovering Values--On Wall Street, Main Street and Your Street) and speaker, recently said on a talk show (paraphrasing)that once a colleague took a Bible and cut out all the mentions of Jesus telling us of our obligation to take care of the poor, and it looked like it had been put through a shredder afterward. I am sure these "Christians" would want to follow the dictates of Jesus Christ, don't you think? After all, Who Would Jesus Mock?

oh really's picture

[Shaking head in disbelief] Only in America will average citizens appear in public and scream "Health Care No!"

People actually want their fellow citizens to go without health care. They think dying of preventable and curable conditions and diseases is the way to go (for other people).

Is this a great country or what?

Welcome to social darwinism at its finest; these people believe that the only way they can survive is for a whole bunch of people to suffer and/or die.

oh really's picture

It's got a real ring to it.

The thing that is so painful is knowing that if these bozos ever end up on the wrong side of the health insurance death machine, i.e., they lose their health coverage and then face a catastrophic illness or accident without any insurance to cover the astronomical costs of the care needed to save a life or restore a person to good working order, they will immediately discover the evils of our current system and the beauty of universal coverage with no exceptions.

Of course, given who and what these people are, they won't actually need to make the full transition -- selfish people are generally satisfied if they can get an exception that provides only for themselves. Screw everybody else.

Over the years, I've heard a handful of people admit publicly they realized the error of their ways only when the grim reaper showed up at their doors. It's more likely that most people will simply realign their philosophy with their needs and skip the part about admitting they were wrong or doing anything to try to help others. In most cases I think it's fair to say these people are basically just shitty people.

I find some primal part of me wanting to do something like drive a car into their crowd and breaking every bone in their bodies, thereby causing them to incur immediate or future health care costs beyond the scope of their current understanding of personal wealth. I know this is wrong and I won't be doing this and do not advocate anyone else to do so, but it was the first thing I thought of when I finished reading this. I want to somehow force the shoe onto the other foot despite knowing it is beyond the realm of my rights as a human.
I find it is increasingly difficult to tolerate the intolerant. The moral paradox of the immoral is something that may only be answered through some kind of Zen Buddhism or something.
The narrowness of these peoples' mindsets is staggering. Like Joe the plumber complaining about Obama raising taxes (on his future rich self) when in reality his taxes were being cut.

We can't just make a wildlife sanctuary for them as they are many and armed. We can't educate them as they refuse to think. We can't ship them to another country as they are xenophobes. We can't send them into space as we lack the technology. We can't kill them as that would just be one of their ideas.

Parable of the Good Samaritan

The parable is found in the Gospel of Luke, chapter 10, verses 25-37.

The Gospel of Luke provides the context for the parable as:

One day an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus by asking him this question: “Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus replied, “What does the law of Moses say? How do you read it?” The man answered, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” “Right!” Jesus told him. “Do this and you will live!” The man wanted to justify his actions, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

Jesus then replied with a story:

“A Jewish man was traveling on a trip from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he was attacked by bandits. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him up, and left him half dead beside the road. By chance a priest came along. But when he saw the man lying there, he crossed to the other side of the road and passed him by. A Levite walked over and looked at him lying there, but he also passed by on the other side. Then a despised Samaritan came along, and when he saw the man, he felt compassion for him. Going over to him, the Samaritan soothed his wounds with olive oil and wine and bandaged them. Then he put the man on his own donkey and took him to an inn, where he took care of him. The next day he handed the innkeeper two silver coins, telling him, ‘Take care of this man. If his bill runs higher than this, I’ll pay you the next time I’m here.’ “Now which of these three would you say was a neighbor to the man who was attacked by bandits?” Jesus asked. The man replied, “The one who showed him mercy.” Then Jesus said, “Yes, now go and do the same.

Contemporary Christanics are conglomerations of "salad bar" mythology picking. Many Christanics don't know what's in their own classical mythologies, nor what's not in them. Extremly few even know the origins of their paper mythologies, gods, and goddesses, demons et al. or even know that there are extant "infant Jesus" books that were voted out of twhat they're being fed in the cult today.

Pick someone who thinks he or she is an "Old Testament" cultist and query them about what's in the OT, offer them extracts from Dante's Inferno or from Mithratic mythology that was pulled from the previous versions of Christanic Bibles, and not one Christanic cultist is capable of differenciating what is in the extant versions of the Old Testament from what is not.

As for your statement of the genesis of the Bible and Christianity in particular, I understand the theory. Unfortunately, the eye witnesses are all dead and I'm really not up to the debate right now.

One fact is true. Protestantism has had, and continues to have, schisms throughout it's history. It's why these folks are all over the map when it comes to their beliefs and message. It's also why they all cling to one or two basic principles across the more extreme groups (abortion & self reliance). It's the only way they can feel a part of a group.

In that way, you are correct in your describing them as a cult.

Fundamental extremism has existed in this country for as long as we've been a country. Their influence crests and ebbs. Eventually, their extremists views drive them outside of the mainstream and they drift back into obscurity. My expectation is that that will happen again. The only question is how long it will take, and what the fallout will be.

Vote GOP and move forward to the 18th Century.

Even the end of the clip, where the reporter is claiming that he's found some reasonable voices in the crowd, is a distortion. The final speaker (a woman with a right wing point of view) makes unsupported claims that no one has had a chance to read the bill, that it will put small businesses out of work (sic) and that it will increase costs.

1. The Dems have gone out of their way, even delaying votes to give members of Congress time to review the bill.

2. The GAO has said that the bill will decrease costs (and lower the deficit).

3. The same GAO has indicated the bill will help to relieve costs to business, including small businesses.

So what authoritative source is this woman quoting from (other than fact-less Fox)?

Once again the know-nothing school of reporting fails the American people by leaving baseless claims unchallenged.

"I'll take Recent Mithratic Legends for 400, Alec."

glogrrl's picture

The Mithraic Mysteries or Mysteries of Mithras (also Mithraism) was a mystery religion which became popular among the military in the Roman Empire, from the 1st to 4th centuries AD.

The most characteristic of these are depictions Mithras as being born from a rock, and as sacrificing a bull. His worshippers had a complex system of seven grades of initiation, with ritual meals. They met in underground temples, which temples survive in large numbers. Little else is known for certain.

Exactly, the City of Tarsus was supposedly heavilly Mithratic, with Paul/Saul's father being an advocate, bringing up his son in the tradition.

Then there's the Goddess Ishtar and Isis, both of which are part of the contemporary Christanic Easter ritual, complete with hiding reproductive symbols (brightly colored eggs) from children -- also reproductive symbols, all of which is Ishtar/Isis worship.

Funny how all contemporary religions -- legitimate ones, not criminal enterprises like Scientology -- are all predicated upon human insanity going back 10,000 years of recorded history, all while some 30% of the world's populace has not learned enough to divest themselves of same.

Actually Tarsus was heavily into Hercules

Although anywhere there was a lot of soldiers would be Mithra.

And technically it's not Ishtar or Isis connected to Easter but Tammuz and Inanna (later Ishtar). But the name Easter, the bunny and the eggs seem to come from the Saxon Goddess Eostre.

Isis was more connected to the parting of the seas, and of course mother and child images.

What's amusing is that you're so very right. The Lazarus myth is taken from the Mithratic resurrection ritual. inserted in to the cult by Paul/Saul of Tarsus who was specifically tasked, according to mythology, with the destruction of the up-start Jesuah / Yewah cult.

Seems Paul/Saul was successful. Someone should inform Christians.

these people are absolutely clueless about the facts and the future. this lower rung tea bagger group are dominated by people who get off/feel good from exaggerating their stance/facts. this is CULTURE CLUB nonsense for many. many are/will become vulnerable in this country unless we reform health care insurance cost. the middle class are losing their health care insurance at a record pace. companies who provide health care ins. are seeing a record pace in premium hikes. people losing their jobs are turning to individual insurance policies they can't afford. as the premiums rise on average of 25% just for this year(2010) risk takers/people that no longer can afford and the younger demographics are DROPPING coverage shrinking the PAYing pool/participants.......raising prices. this in turn further harms our economy and will make it difficult to compete. reform is a must.

Jefferson said that a nation that is ignorant and free can not exist. These rightarded Tea Baggers advocate against not only their own self interest, or their childrens' best interest, but against their own country.

Ignorance is the default. We are all born ignorant. Willful ignorance like these Tea Bagging loons express is unacceptable, though. These idiots are profoundly mentally dysfunctional.

That is so very true, there is a level of selfishness that can't grasp that the concept of Karma really does apply, not through mystical forces but through social interaction.

The lack of ability to conceptualize what's in their own best interest is called a lack of empathy.

Ignorance is the natural state of the human condition. I think the problem many have with the authoritarian aspects of many religions is that they tend to enshrine and justify ignorance rather than diminish it. Most likely because the folks in authority gain power and prestige by maintaining ignorance.
