Madam Speaker just uploaded this bit of winningness.

In a first step to reform the money in politics, House Democrats are reintroducing the DISCLOSE Act today to get unlimited, secret donations out of politics. The Supreme Court's decision in Citizens United opened the floodgates to unrestricted special interest campaign donations in American elections—permitting corporations to spend unlimited funds, directly or through third parties and Political Action Committees organized for those purposes, to influence Federal elections and opened the door for the emergence of Super PACs.

If comedians get more attention than politicians it's time to fight back !!

makes me want to join facebook just to "like" that

against my friend Newt Gingrich. bwahahaha
Wasn't it Pelosi that told the House Dems not to go on Colbert's "Better know a district" segment?

Well, better late to the table than to never show up. She even helped set the table this time.
you know that this is fodder for Colbert. He will HAVE to a respond in a big way to this personal attack.
the dumbass networks will cover it and some more info inadvertently gets to the public.

the comment thread is even funnier. many have NO clue what Colbert is really doing.
the flamethrowers will emerge.
It won't go another day without 'Nazi' being mentioned.

Wall Street is just a parasite on the actual labor and investments of average Americans.
Banks play with futures, debt paper, complex financial instruments, and other peoples incomes.
Sell 'em short & help 'em crash - Tear 'em apart & sell the pieces

Democrats could talk till the cows come home, and corporate political spending wouldn't get an iota of attention that picking a fight with Stephen Colbert will produce.

She is one smart lady.

Although I probably shouldn't have been surprised, I was gobsmacked to see the alternating foulness against Rep. Pelosi and the folks who were convinced this was a serious moment on FB.

"Better." It's what we should ask of ourselves and of our leaders.

God she is the fakest most insincere lunatic beach I've ever seen. It's a corporate sham.

Where are the real leaders like Paul Wellstone, Howard Dean, Alan Grayson, Dennis Kucinich, and Cynthia McKinney. Oh yeah. The corporate rulers and handlers don't like them.

The Bill of Rights and Constitution are a joke to Ms. Pelosi.

Your pet ideological imperatives. No wonder you hate her.

is a pet ideological imperative of yours then?

CTHULHU 2012 "Why vote for a lesser evil?"

I don't like people who took impeachment off the table for the Bush Admin and who don't prosecute torture or speak out against Election fraud. I don't like people who take the public option off the table in the healthcare debate. I don't like people who make money on insider trading or whatever the hell her and her husband did.

I like real progressives with courage to stand up to the corporate elite. Like JFK and Paul Wellstone.

the squat and dump this Democratic prezzie and administration just recently laid upon the legal framework of the mortgage and housing industry, her comment about getting money and influence out of politics just seems to me a tad bit hollow.

I have a feeling that more people know and understand Super-PACs thanks to Colbert. I will happily admit I am one of those people. As he progressed in obtaining his, I found out how ludicrous the whole thing really is.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

So, Pelosi also wants to eliminate "soft" money to the Democratic Party she helps lead?

How about eliminating those cushy lobbyist jobs taken by Democrats like Billy Tauzin, Tom Daschle, and Chris Dodd? Or the revolving door between Wall Street and the Obama Administration?

What about blatant conflicts of interest like Pelosi's own negotiation of telecom immunity while her husband held a ton of AT&T stock? Or health insurance executive Liz Fowler drafting the Democratic health insurance bill?

Yeah, Nancy Pelosi wants big money and it's influence out of politics. Right. Just drop $35,800 a plate at a Democratic fundraiser, and she'll explain it to you over champagne.

Citizens United makes a convenient target ("It's not us; it's the Court!"), but this system is dirty through and through. Nancy Pelosi is a prime example.

It's exasperating how many angry progressives talk about the Obama administration as if he'd invented these problems.

you're basically making the case that this administration is no better/different than the previous one. Is that supposed to be a defense or an indictment?

CTHULHU 2012 "Why vote for a lesser evil?"

. . . who watch Obama exchange his JP Morgan Chase Chief of Staff for a CitiGroup Chief of Staff and still talk as if the Administrations is doing anything but the banks' desires.

And it isn't a "problem," he just got stuck with. It's corruption. You don't have that "problem" if you don't want that problem. "Oh golly, I didn't want to be corrupt. But I have no choice. My predecessor was corrupt."

i found it funny that pelosi's place in this ad was to show her as a get tough campaign finance reformer, but i don't think that was supposed to be a humorous aspect of the ad

Ape-Man's picture

As long is everyone is on the same level playing field, they should all have no problem with discloser, or with taking the money out of politics, Pelosi included. But as long as the republicans, and other dems are getting truck loads of support money, Pelosi would be nuts not to take the money too - or her political career would end. Some Dems have declared that they will disclose, while the republicans not so much.

I think the same principle applies to super PAC money in the presidential elections.

i am not saying that nancy was dumb to take the millions and millions of dollars that she has from various industries. like any politician one's morals and ethics are easily cast aside when it comes to the need of getting re-elected. and, like nearly every politician, nancy has skilfully played the game well.

as far as the 'money = victory' meme goes, i wonder how much of a law that is versus a solid theory. i am not dumb enough to say that money is not uber-critical, but is it the end-all? is it the only deciding factor? my experience at OWS tells me that there is a percentage of voters that do care about more than slick TV ads, and fancy suits.

quick recent example, from the oppsoite side of the ideological spectrum: ricky sanitorum sweeps 3 states despite having a lot less money

In 2011, Santorum raised $2.2 million, according to year-end filings. Romney raised $56.8 million

Introduce a bill to make us all think you are going to try to fix things and then gut it like you have with the STOCK bill and all other campaign finance bills before?
