Rand Paul whines: "Where is my honeymoon?"
Rand Paul appeared on ABC's Good Morning America this morning to further address his remarks on The Rachel Maddow Show. Or at least that was supposedly the reason for his appearance. Instead he railed against the media, in particular Rachel Maddow and the liberal media aided by the "Democrat Party".
"When does my honeymoon period start? I had a big victory," Paul told George Stephanopoulos on "Good Morning America" today. "I've just been trashed up and down and they have been saying things that are untrue. And when they say I'm for repealing the Civil Rights Act, it's absolutely false. It's never been my position and something that I basically just think is politics."
Paul even thought to bring up 92-year-old Robert Byrd.
"If you want to bring up 40-year-old legislation, why don't you bring me on with Sen. [Robert] Byrd, and we'll talk about how he filibustered the Civil Rights Act," he said of the 92-year-old West Virginia Democrat. "Make him, call him to task for something he actually did as opposed to calling me to task for something they insinuated that I might believe that's not true.
"What is going on here is an attempt to vilify us for partisan reasons. Where do your talking points come from? The Democratic National Committee, they also come from Rachel Maddow and MSNBC."
Later Rand Paul would even stand up for BP:
"What I don't like from the president's administration is this sort of, 'I'll put my boot heel on the throat of BP.' I think that sounds really un-American in his criticism of business," he said. "I've heard nothing from BP about not paying for the spill. And I think it's part of this sort of blame game society in the sense that it's always got to be someone's fault instead of the fact that sometimes accidents happen."
In the end, Paul's meltdown is indicative of a novice candidate suddenly thrust onto the national stage and shown to be wildly unprepared. Somewhat reminiscent of a former Vice-Presidential candidate.

With both feet in his mouth.
He better get used to the type of politics going on right now.
Cause it ain't gonna change anytime soon.
After all the name calling from the GOp, he gets his undies in a twist. Keep mumbling Rand. You're your own worst enemy.
What is your conceptual, continuity?
pseudo-philosophy, first the Scientologists and now the Randians. If Paul goes shopping for new sneakers, McConnell better act fast.
Isn't funny how a the "liberal media" can turn a perfectly good man into a racist. How do they do that? I guess he's learning pretty good from the conservative playbook. Call all media but FOX liberal and you're cleared of any wrong doing. Including being a racist.
is intended to be a factual statement
HE is stupid!
He doesn't seem to understand the full ramifications of what he said!
But back during 50's and 60's it was all about States' Rights, but it wasn't really about States' Rights, it was about segregation.
So it's not easy to hear Rand Paul cite freedom of speech as a justification for private businesses denying service to blacks.
Sounds like the same strategy all over again.
When will government of the people, by the politicians, for the corporations perish from this Earth?
Not soon enough!
"Freedom of Association" stems from the "assembly" clauses in the 1st Amendment as much as the free speech part.
In Atlanta Motel v. United States, 379 U.S. 241 (1964), the Supreme Court upheld the Civil Rights Act of 1964, stating that under the Commerce Clause of the constitution, the Congress could forbid racial discrimination in commerce.
Ron Paul's position and Rand Paul's position are essentially the same, namely that private parties should be free to associate or not associate with whomever they wish. In other words, a business can advertise itself as "White only". In the case of Ron Paul, this position has made him the darling of the white supremacist movements for obvious reasons.
It's people like these that underscores the point that elections aren't always something to get out and vote for something - sometimes (and sometimes means "these times") we need to get out and vote against. There are numerous issues to vote against, and this is only one.
I read on this site (I think) in the last couple of days that stormfront and klanners had hot links to support ron paul in 2008
Diabolus est Deus Inversus
Paul's position, apparently shared by the son, is that businesses should be permitted to serve and hire whites only. That would reinstate Jim Crow in many areas in the South.
oops .. double post .. flakey internets made me do it
:)
When will government of the people, by the politicians, for the corporations perish from this Earth?
Not soon enough!
He is a racist and a bigot. Anyone who would question the Civil Rights act as anything but good is a racist. Anyone who would question the Disabilities Act as anything but good is a bigot.
I do agree with you on the point that the guy is stupid but that's not an excuse for being a racist or a bigot.
is intended to be a factual statement
But not the need for it, and certainly not in the way he chose to do so. And again, none of the critics have done so properly (in a non-racist manner) to this date.
Dixiecrats were racist. Saint Ronnie was as well for using racist tactics during his political career (and for the decisions he made.)
""If you want to bring up 40-year-old legislation, why don't you bring me on with Sen. [Robert] Byrd, and we'll talk about how he filibustered the Civil Rights Act," he said of the 92-year-old West Virginia Democrat. "Make him, call him to task for something he actually did as opposed to calling me to task for something they insinuated that I might believe that's not true.""
byrd's long ago been pilloried and recanted his filibuster and vote gainst the civil rights act.
this isn't about byrd rand, this is about your own 15 minutes of fame and explaining what you're on record for bleating during it.
Robert Byrd's issues were 40 years ago, your's are right now.
tendencies.
Paul was born with the benefit of living in better times, and still fucked everything up.
That's the best point possible, Ron. You win a chocolate cake with chocolate icing.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
to slice a piece for yourself.
But that meme about acumen and intelligence skipping a generation might be true.
Sorry Rand, you might be a political neophyte but you aren't any political virgin -- that wasn't blood on the "marital night" sheets, but something brown and stinky, by all appearances. NO, no honeymoon for you! Next!
"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."
-- John F. Kennedy
Rand... you big baby! Time for you to grow up and realize you're playing with the 'big boys' now... no more whining and crying for mommy!
Personally, I think your clock is gonna get cleaned, buddy! Yep... you're one racist mofo without any ideas of your own. You're getting no honeymoon from anyone. Grow up!
Sadly, I think he'll win big in November. You can't convince me that voters will go for a somewhat liberal over this guy - he has all the talking points down, and remember: this is the state that gave us Mitch McConnell and Jim Bunning.
Not if the number of Dems is more than the number of Reps, which is what was witnessed in the primaries.
I sure hope that's the case. At least Rand has a few months to show how much of an asshat he is. Let's just hope Kentuckians see it.
reader comments suggest otherwise.
even repubs are talking about crossing party lines to vote for the dem.
you can't play the populist by worrying about the treatment of big oil vs fishermen.
the security this website has for registration is goofy.
And he's getting his political cherry popped.
If he didn't know it was coming he's in the wrong profession.
I hope in the upcoming days the focus starts shifting from why liberals shouldn't consider voting for this "libertarian" to why conservatives should not vote for him.
Is WATBaby Doc running under the Repube banner or does he think he is a Libertarian?
I'm just superstitious enough to hedge my bets.
MR Palin!
Boy, he's slippery! I watched his interview on Rachel's show and he was flailing and slithering around like something desperate and very, very slimy, trying to avoid answering her question.
Wednesday after the election he went in front of every camera he could find. He put himself out there as a political target so what did he expect? He and Palin have more in common than we need in one country.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
He didn't have much to worry about in his primary, but the "other party" will beat him to death in the lead-up to the General. Just look at the last 2-3 days for proof and we still have months to go. It should be fun to watch.
Paul must be taking lessons from Neal Boortz on how to whine! Boortz had better watch out or he'll no longer will be the "King of Whine!"
Ron Paul's voice makes it sound like he's always whining. Rand is working on that great talent.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
-------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------Mr Rand Pall Delusional-----------------

I donot think he understands the significance of what he said?

Probably in the circles he runs in what he said is not at all unusual.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
Libertarian "philosophy" can only exist in fiction. In the real world it's like talking about who won the quidditch game.
He's confused when taken outside of his element where there's less taken for granted, and where people expect things to happen as they do in reality, not a libertopian fantasy realm.
So does his pop. But pop has a better spin.

(~7 minutes)
If you don't want to listen to 7 minutes, basically Ron Paul says he's good for blacks because he would end Big War and the Big War on Drugs. Like the son, they won't address directly whether or not they believe that the Civil Rights Act of 1964, prohibiting racial discrimination in commerce is constitutional. (Because they don't).
Between the status quo on Big War/Big War on Drugs and the libertarian position, I'll take the libertarian position. (I have my own position). But, I need it without reestablishment of Jim Crow. I think a lot of Paul(s) supporters hear the parts, but don't get a picture of the whole.
We need to get a waaaaambulance out to Rand Paul on the double.
Never trust anyone who insists that patriotism requires you to blindfold yourself with the flag.
America loves a whiner so he should be a shoo-in.
Kentucky Fried Candidate
.. ok .. I stole it .. pass it on ..
:)

... is that his fried-bacon ass between two
patsiespatties named Sarah & Michelle? Why don't they get that Rachel Maddow? I hear she's GREAT!
he is such a free speech advocate.
And a Libertarian...or so I've heard.
Saint Sara isn't a free speech advocate,,,, neither is the "saving my self for marriage" daughter she has. Nope,,,fumbling,,, stumbling and bumbling talking points costs>>> pays big $$$$.
When you marry your career to a bunch of troglodytes and monsters, you can barely distinguish your honeymoon from a blanket party.
This punk hasn't been elected to anything yet. Honeymoon, my ass.
Religion will be the downfall of Humanity.
....the Republic[sic] Party and its constituents hearts whiny ass titty babies like him, who take absolutely no responsibility for anything, ever, and always blame the librul menace. He'll be just fine, so far as the Repubes and other conservatives are concerned: Baby is definitely cut from the same cloth, so far as sniveling, filibustering, and being utterly divorced from the reality of their own video clips.
Wotta clown.
I'm just superstitious enough to hedge my bets.
"What I don't like from the president's administration is this sort of, 'I'll put my boot heel on the throat of BP."
The "boot heal on the throat" is classic language used to call up images of fascist despotism.Nice to see he isn't into *cough* partisan mud slinging or anything.
Rachel really hung this clown out to dry didn't she?
It's a thing of beauty.

You're running for political office. Everything you do is 'just politics.' GET OVER IT.
The same place as your common sense, Rand---nonexistent. And another thing, politics isn't for the thin skinned or weak. Better suck it up and get with the program or get the hell out---preferably the latter.
"We will find fulfillment not in the goods that we have, but in the good we can do for each other."
Robert F. Kennedy
Whiny Ass Titty Baby, or Rand for short.
He has bailed out on Sunday's Meet the Press show. Even with David (I wish I was Mike Wallace's son) Gregory.
...for the Fox Blitz. This clown will be on every Fox pile of crap show, with the possible exception of Shephard Smith. I am sure Rand "I'm Shocked and ApPauled" won't be taking any more chances, mumbling woos that he is.
I'm just superstitious enough to hedge my bets.
he would paint himself into a corner doing a spot on nascar tonight. BTW,,, why do so many righties watch nascar when for the whole year other than a token few races they turn left.
Citing exhaustion--sheesh, what a lightweight and a bad liar too. This dope is in way over his head.
"We will find fulfillment not in the goods that we have, but in the good we can do for each other."
Robert F. Kennedy
Boo hoo ... whine, whine, whine. Don't republicans (and now libertarians) make the best whine.
Thankfully Rand Paul said his true thoughts. Thank you Rachel Maddow for lifting up the rock so we could see the true racist creature underneath.
Also, figures, libertarianism, along with the corporate free lobbyists teabagger idiots, all are the same old republicanism repackaged and renamed, yet a lot of it is still mostly about their racism via distraction politics.

I have a friend, who I only have contact with via FB because she lives in another state, who has lost every political conversation with me that she has initiated. Usually she puts up some asinine post like, "Tell me ONE THING the government can do right. ONE THING they can run properly", and then I spend the next several posts gently (because I have hope for her) kicking her all over the yard. Typically, these conversations end with a non-response from her and the topic is dropped until the next one comes up. At any rate, lately she has posted that she took her kids to a Tea Party rally and bragged that she is going to take her kids to see Palin (egad, the mind reels). This sort of thing, I have come to believe, is a chickenshit way of stepping away from the Republicans and all their unbelievable, hypocritical bullshit (I am sure she has been mortified by the likes of Larry Craig as well) without ever having to answer for their crap (like our always-unfinished conversations) and at the same time have the opportunity to still ally themselves with FRESH conservative nutjobs and like the Teabaggers and The Shrilla From Wasilla.
It makes me sick. Instead of admitting that their party has gone totally off the rails, maybe even sticking in and DOING something about it, or just plain admitting that they might want to reassess their political leanings, they line up with an even worse flock of nuts.
I'm just superstitious enough to hedge my bets.
“Instead of admitting that their party has gone totally off the rails, ...”
That is the thing that can't be ignored. As an entity, the Republican party *has* gone totally off the rails. The last thing people need to do is sit out elections and let the tea baggers dictate policy.
Hard to imagine Ron Paul allowing his kid to get into politics without a pair of 'big boy' pants.
What was his wife's maiden name
McNally?
Diabolus est Deus Inversus
As I read in the other thread of the apple not falling far from the tree, I tried to find that old Phil Donahue show that had the racists on it.
I didn't find it, but I did find a series of videos of David Duke on the old Phil Donahue show. (God, I miss Donahue)
The statements made by Duke could have been made by Paul, in my view...right down to the "liberal" media.
"When profit comes up against morality, it's rare that profit loses."~Shirley Chisholm
The shit doesn't fall far from the bat.
The Texas textbook changes passed...
I wonder what the odds of a lawsuit being filed to prevent enactment is possible...?
Diabolus est Deus Inversus
I read somewhere the other day that California will not be accepting the Texas Text Books this time around and since it was Texas and California that all the other states would get their books from, I suspect that the books that will be widely distributed will come from California. Thank Goodness! Once again it's a Liberal state that has to be the leader in Progressivism.
For all you uppity women who believe you have the right to control your own bodies, Doctor Paul has the cure... /s
"I am 100% pro life. I believe abortion is taking the life of an innocent human being.
I believe life begins at conception and it is the duty of our government to protect this life.
I will always vote for any and all legislation that would end abortion or lead us in the direction of ending abortion.
I believe in a Human Life Amendment and a Life at Conception Act as federal solutions to the abortion issue. I also believe that while we are working toward this goal, there are many other things we can accomplish in the near term.
It is unconscionable that government would facilitate the taking of innocent life. I strongly oppose any federal funding for abortion and will stop the flow of tax dollars to groups like Planned Parenthood, who perform or advocate abortions.
In addition, I believe we may be able to save millions of lives in the near future by allowing states to pass their own anti-abortion laws. If states were able to do so, I sincerely believe many -- including Kentucky -- would do so tomorrow, saving hundreds of thousands of lives.
Before 1973, abortion was illegal in most states. Since Roe v. Wade, over 50 million children have died in abortion procedures.
I would strongly support legislation restricting federal courts from hearing cases like Roe v. Wade. Such legislation would only require a majority vote, making it more likely to pass than a pro-life constitutional amendment.
I would support legislation, a Sanctity of Life Amendment, establishing the principle that life begins at conception. This legislation would define life at conception in law, as a scientific statement.
As your Senator, there are many ways I can help end abortion. I will fight for each and every one of them."
IOW, he demands the overthrow of Roe V Wade, and pledges to restore the status quo ante of the crazy quilt of state laws, some admitting women had the right to control their own bodies, others denying this. This is the nightmare of rights by geography that was eliminated by Roe V Wade. He proposes to criminalize abortion, nationwide with his constitutional amendment. So much for the state by state by state choice.
All women who desire to be degraded to broodmare status should vote for this pig.
Funny how the man claims to hate "big government", except when used as a weapon against womens rights. Fuck him for the lying hypocrite he is!
I'm sick and fucking tired of these motherfuckers railing against the government but are desperately willing to spend millions to be a part of it, purely to destroy it, or to get their own spitefulness become law.
What a pissy little baby - moaning about how the big bad left-wing media has the nerve to hold him accountable for THINGS THAT HE SAID. He's pretending that he's accused of wanting to repeal the entire Civil Rights Act so that he can (honestly) say that isn't true. No, they're calling him out on the part of the Civil Rights Act that he has stated that he disagrees with - which is extremely relevant to how he'd perform as a lawmaker - and is now trying to hide those extreme views back under a rock. Sadly, there might be a majority of KY voters who are willfully ignorant and buy in to this revision.
democratic???
not even his crazy father does that
this guy is a straight out pos
1980's and more recently from party boss Limbaugh and Crazy Eyes Bachmann. We know where Ayn Rand Paul is getting his talking points from. The Rushthugliklan Party!
You're running for public office you moron - you don't get a honeymoon.
We need to be able to tell people how scary you are.

I (gasp!) agree with, I think it was Kyl, who said that this sounded like a discussion one would have at 2am in a college dorm room. Exactly. One does have these types of discussions at the age of 19, away from Mommy and Daddy, probably under the effect of some substance that tends to alter one's conciousness, after one has just completed the first week of an Intro to Philosophy class in Freshman year. It makes for a very interesting discussion sitting cross-legged on a bunk bed with a bunch of people you've just met. In that mind-set (you've just been introduced to the concept of Truth - with a capital T), you can actually make a case for Libertarianism. Why? Because you've never really been exposed to the real world. If Plato and Socrates' world actually existed, and people actually ascribed to this as a way of life, then there is a case to be made for Libertarianism. Try having that same discussion 10 years later after everyone has been in the real world for a while. Most people, thankfully, grow up after Freshman year of college. Randy, apparently, hasn't.
The way Progressives have been highlighting this guy this week I thought he was the new SecDef, FEMA director, a Supreme Court nominee or even the Prime Minister of Albania.
Then I learn he's a Senatorial candidate in Kentucky. Fuckin' Kentucky!! And he will probably replace a real certifiable - Jim Bunning. Yep, this Rand Paul is really an important guy.
BTW, how's that war with Afghanistan going? Iraq? BP?
a male Sarah Palin...............
This guy is about as deep as a game of Chutes and Ladders.
What did you say that was so bad 6 and 7 eighths?
We got a winner here folks!
How many time can a guy shoot himself in the foot and still stand? Get that boy a Rascal, he's going to need it for the rest of the campaign.
Listen little men posting away about so called "rights" on this forum, "rights" as we call them don't exist. No right has ever been proven to exist under the rules of the Scientific Method, furthermore no "law" exists barring the generalizations of somewhat reliable measurements of theories such as "gravity". One can actually use a variety of experiments and measurements to defend such a claim, now this business about "rights" seems more like a belief, one that most people involved in the belief systems of government BS for short tend to be mystified by and hypnotized by.
Now this business of calling someone a name like "racist" because they might not believe in such a spooky abstraction as a "right" ignores the honesty of the proposition Mr.Paul seems to be presenting. All of you would like to believe you have "rights" but I doubt you can prevent mass extinction say of species from occuring another 200 times in the forseeable future. Man maybe nothing but a speck in all of existence, to think otherwise maybe to be caught up in all this BS nonsense. Mr.Paul maybe an honest man, I'd prefer an honest scoundrel as opposed to a dishonest moralist. At least he doesn't pretend what the government does maybe nothing more than thuggish robbery, you'll get no such admission from establishment hacks, hell bent on maximizing profits and power for the egos in their heads.
So don't read any Mises, Hayek, Rothbard, Stirner, Wilson, Block, for that matter cause even they know that no such things as "rights" exist for any of us, and that my friends was why they went after Paul and called him a racist, simply cause he has no right to think he maybe not what the media vanity freaks say he maybe. Also the government behaves as if nobody has any rights and only says they do when it maybe appears "moral" that they "care" about something they know doesn't exist, grow up kiddies, it maybe far later than you imagine. The parties over, the money's spent, the only thing left now seems to go along the lines of calling people names, since actual issues like the economy, jobs, war, bank bailouts, and government takeovers are not about "racism" or the civil rights act of 1964, I guess next we'll have a big tea rally to investigate the role "dixiecrats" played in the Jim Crow South.
Last time I checked it was people speaking out against those "laws" that changed the environment, not making a "law" making it legal to discriminate against property owners, as long as the federal government can treat it's citizens as if they are still in Jim Crow era world, private citizens will always be at a disadvantage and property owners will never have any real right over what they own or earned through a lifetime of work, you see really what the government wants maybe for all of us to be treated like slaves by the federal government, not just one race but all people, thanks to the commerce clause we have the war on drugs, we have a massive prison industry, we still have institutional racism. As if by magic wand one can make a law and make everything bad go away, sorry it doesn't work that way....why should the government respect anyone's rights if property owners can be told with whom they must associate, the Government can simply compel anyone to do anything under these presumptions, and evidence over the last 50 years has sadly shown that to be the function of the law, sadly racism has been used by the government to rob "everyone" of the the libertarian principle of "free association" or "mutual consent". Government instead has decided that by pointing guns at people they can force people to do things together and to be friendly to each other, that doesn't sound like choice, it seems more like force to me, all the more reason they can justify bombing children in Iraq or invading countries without declarations and denying rights to detainees.
