Sarah Palin says she's the victim of "blood libel" in the Arizona shootings. As one person put it on twitter,

"Really? "Blood Libel"? Someone tries to assassinate a Jewish member of Congress, and you use the phrase "Blood Libel"? Shame on you".

Howard Kurtz, who only a few days ago was defending her actions, now condemns her.

“Especially within hours of a tragedy unfolding,” Palin said in a video on her Facebook page, “journalists and pundits should not manufacture a blood libel that serves only to incite the very hatred and violence they purport to condemn. That is reprehensible.”

Blood libel, for those who are not familiar, describes a false accusation that minorities—usually Jews—murder children to use their blood in religious rituals, and has been a historical theme in the persecution of the Jewish people.

Had Palin scoured a thesaurus, she could not have come up with a more inflammatory phrase

Sarah should change her last name to "Palindrome". No matter which way she flip her, she still spells "i-d-i-o-t".

CafeenMan's picture

She really is a very stupid person. And apparently she either doesn't want to pay the cost of or just can't get a competent handler. I'm thinking the latter because I can't imagine anyone who really knows what he's doing wanting anything to do with Palin.

I honestly believe she has no idea how stupid she looks. When the directer said "cut" on this one, she probably pumped her fist and said "nailed it!"

That would certainly allow Michael Palin to continue to be, as John Cleese put it, "the funniest Palin."

Ironically, the discussion of the word "palindrome" is how the famous Dead Parrot sketch ends. Nilap Haras should consider her political future as dead as the Norwegian blue parrot.

That woman is worse than an idiot.

Did you know an anagram of "Sarah Palin" is "a plain rash"?

Oh, oh! and "Anal parish"!

Sarah honey, you just don't get it.The goal was to appear to be sincere, empathetic to the victims of this violent event, and an opportunity to show that you actually had "reflected and prayed" over this. You failed. Your video is contrived, lacking in any sincerity, and quite frankly is a bad acting job.

ian m's picture

I beg to differ. She comes across as a bitter, shrill, sneering, smug, self-absorbed shrew. Where her tone seems vapid and insincere, it is merely because she is vapid and insincere. Overall, a very genuine performance.

WTF

Im from England have been visiting this site for ages as the videos are well chosen, but this clip above all others forced me to register and make a comment.

Its jaw-dropping. The insincerity ooozes out of the screen and betrays her complete lack of a moral compass, she would never get elected in my country and i fear for your political system that she still maintains such a high profile.

I think this will bring your site down in terms of comments.

I don't think she can get elected here either. I'm sure when she was elected in Alaska she maintained a low enough profile for her wingnuttery to remain well hidden from public view.

The only reason she remains in the news now is because liberals pay her way too much attention.

and goes on to become the vicepresidential candidate for the past election by "keeping a low profile?"

It's obvious that Palin knows the power of words, and those words should include the hateful, incendiary rhetoric that has come out of her mouth, the mouths of Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, Savage, Levin, Boortz, and many other conservatives.

She is, probably more than anyone, using this tragedy for her own benefit.

Of COURSE she didn't write this, she's too stupid to know that many big words. Sounds like her buddy Beck to me. Beck would have run across the term and thought it meant that it had something to do with litigation. Yes, he's stupid as well, but at least he can read.

CAUGHT BETWEEN THE DEVIL/TEABAGGERS AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA

In order to gain the political power they've enjoyed for decades, Republican moderates and fiscal conservatives made a pact with the devil (faux Christians, bigots, racists, sexists - teabaggers) to achieve the numbers they needed to defeat Democrats. They made a strategic decision to manipulate and exploit the ignorance, fears and hatreds of dysfunctional, malleable and misanthropic voters in order to win elections rather than lose them by being intellectually and morally HONEST.

Today, those who conspired with the devil are caught between wanting to disassociate themselves with/casting out the demons/teabaggers they empowered and the karmic reality that they don't have the numbers to hold on to or regain power without accepting and "advocating" the immoral prejudices, hypocrisies and corruptions that are dividing and destroying their party.

The survival of today's shrinking Republican Party is so dependent on extremism that they have no significant power left WITH or WITHOUT the support of America's increasingly pernicious lunatic fringe.

The idiom "caught between the devil and the deep blue sea" is appropriate as Republicans are facing the dilemma of choosing between two equally undesirable alternatives that both result in Republican impotence in mainstream American politics. They are suffering the consequences of their treachery.

Their irresponsible propping up of George W. Bush cost them their credibility, and the malicious dissonance of teabaggers, birthers and deathers exacerbated by the incendiary exhortations of Palin, Beck, Limbaugh and Hannity are costing them their viability.

The response to this is more likely an uptick in the level of vitriol and further division in the country. In a time normally set aside for grieving, she has come out scolding. Beck, Limbaugh, Boortz, O'Reilly too have embraced their angry rhetoric. How long before their legions of rapturous listeners follow in step?

This is her public statement disavowing violence, hatred, and intolerance?

These are her words of comfort for the suffering and healing for the nation?

This is her moment of rebirth by realizing that words of violence can feed violence of forswearing the use of such words, as a moral, spiritual lesson learned?

Of course not we are talking about Sarah Palin.

The lesson she has learned is the importance of protecting her hate speech, and Tuff S to all of us that we don't recognize that She can say anything she damned well pleases and the repercussions are not her responsibility.

In her reality, It is right and just that others should suffer and die so that she can continue to call down the violence that causes their suffering and death.

She said that she's spent the last few days "praying for guidance," but, based on this performance, it appears gawd has abandoned her. She used the words 'respectfully' and 'responsibility' several times, but her response indicates she has no clue what those words actually mean in the context of her normal behavior.

Sarah Palin is Queen of the Cluster B personality disorders. She has no real sense of self, or where it begins and ends in relation to others. She has no real sense of others, or empathy for them.

She has only the sense of a world that revolves around her. A sense of entitlement to everything: riches, glory, attention, power, etc.

Typically, these people are so sick, it's difficult to get through to them at all.

The Cluster B personality disorder is a very dangerous person. Whether anti-social, narcissistic, histrionic or borderline, these people cause havoc and dismay in the lives of those around them. They're not all Hannibal Lecter, but they're still dangerous to be around.

And our culture LOVES them. We've made a virtue out of pathological selfishness. It's what you need to win a Reality TV game show, general limelight, and most tragically, elections.

Really? Sarah Pal-in-Comparison-To-Anyone wrote this?:

Especially within hours of a tragedy unfolding, journalists and pundits should not manufacture a blood libel that serves only to incite the very hatred and violence they purport to condemn. That is reprehensible.

No, Queen Sarah's too stupid to string words together like that. One of her handlers wrote this, and she's too stupid to even know what it means. She also doesn't care. As long as it gets attention on her, that's what Madame Cluster B needs. If she's the victim, if she gets sympathy, if she gets attention, mission accomplished.

Her handlers could have written, "The conniving Nazi armada bubbling within the Democrat Party's brew has finally boiled over, and it is we the American people who will suffer, as this tragedy eminently demonstrates. The real message of this shooting is from the Democrats, and it's 'Watch Out, Americans!'" She'd have happily said that too to get attention. And the professional blather heads on TV would parse it for insight.

America is deranged. Its so called conservatives, the people of the so called heartland, have had their minds raped by the relentless propaganda that is the modern media. And as Progressives, we've largely been too stunned and confused to know what to do about it. As karoli was trying to say earlier, we need to focus on our mental and moral health as a nation, not babble about which political side is to blame for this tragedy.

It could be a wake up call, if we're willing to take a long hard look at ourselves in the mirror. This is precisely what personalities like Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh are unable to do.

Everyone is equally entitled to the pursuit of happiness. Wasn't that once self evident?

Sarah Palin is an idiot, and likely doesn't even realize there's a racial connotation to *blood libel.*

Given that many leaders of the neo-con movement are Jews - Kristol, Krauthammer, etc. - the idea that the RW is anti-semitic is totally ridiculous.

miss_kitty's picture

You see the word Jew or Jewish in the article and claim that there's a portrait by this site of antisemitism going on w/ whoever you think they're accusing? Details please. Diagram that path from this article to your conclusion...

BTW, how do you know the extent of Palin's knowledge about Judaism? She went to many colleges you know.

freequark's picture

They quoted Howard Kurtz, who said....

"Blood libel, for those who are not familiar, describes a false accusation that minorities—usually Jews—murder children to use their blood in religious rituals, and has been a historical theme in the persecution of the Jewish people.

Had Palin scoured a thesaurus, she could not have come up with a more inflammatory phrase."

There's clearly an insinuation there that Palin's comment was anti-semitic.

In case you hadn't noticed, many of the articles at this site try to make the case that Beck and other RWers are anti-semitic. This is clearly a ridiculous assertion, as all of the neo-cons are rabidly pro-Israel, and in fact many of them are Jewish themselves. These sorts of phony racist narratives make it clear that some people (read: elitist liberals) want the political division in this country to be more about whites vs. minorities rather than wealthy vs. poor.

That many right-wingers are pro-Israel does not necessarily mean that they are not anti-Semitic. There are rabid Jew-haters who support the state of Israel, just for their own warped reasons, typically because Biblical prophesy entails getting all the Jewish tribes into this little portion of the Earth so that Jesus can return.

Of course one can be an anti-semite and a supporter of Israel. Before the final solution, the Nazis supported the idea of a Jewish homeland in Palestine with Eichmann negotiating for the transport of Jews.

The point is she's CLUELESS.

...you're imagining that something is there.

It's not that Palin is being anti-semitic, it's that she's greatly- and insensitively- conflating her current troubles with those of the Jews who were libeled with accusations of drinking the blood of Christian babies, libeled in order to foment pogroms.

As someone at another site put it so eloquently, it's as if Palin burned her fingers getting a Pop Tart from the toaster and claimed she'd been through the Holocaust.

Funny about all of this push-back from the Palin camp: SarahPAC wiped their site of their "targets" graphic almost immediately upon getting news of the assassination attempt. Looks like she's got kapos in her own camp. /snark

surveyor's symbols, why didn't they say so back in March when Giffords called them on it on national TV?

Whether she realizes it or not, whether it is intentional or not, whether she wrote it or has the least bit of understanding of what she said, she still invoked a phrase with anti-Semitic connotation. She still responded to accusations of violent rhetoric … with violent rhetoric.

Karen's picture

It doesn't matter that she's too stupid to know what she's saying. She's too stupid to think of any of those words, much less string them together into a coherent statement like that.

Whoever wrote it knew what s/he was doing. Queen B is but the mouthpiece for the sentiment.

I wonder. I’m not as quick as you to convey upon her handlers that much forethought. They may just be stumbling onto propaganda they think might work.

You could be right, of course, and my observations are but from afar. I have not actually studied the people around her or even come close to meeting them.

But given Palin's Pentecostal religious affiliations, her manipulative and easily manipulable personality, and the frightening aims of the leaders within the Republican's Theocratic wing, it seems highly plausible to me that Palin is the perfect person to spread this vile message for them.

Everyone is equally entitled to the pursuit of happiness. Wasn't that once self evident?

a moron who doesn't choose her words carefully and has chosen a phrase to describe what she thinks is being done to her which happens to describe a practice of anti-semites. Geez.

Well, it's obvious, at least to me, that she did not choose that phrase, but it was chosen for her; whether or not her speechwriter/teleprompter-programmer is anti-semitic or just as clueless as his/her boss. Not the most common phrase in political discourse, and Ms. Palin is not the sort who would research the meaning of anything that spews from her mouth.

Given that many leaders of the neo-con movement are Jews - Kristol, Krauthammer, etc. - the idea that the RW is anti-semitic is totally ridiculous.

Neo-conservatives are essentially neo-imperialists. They have a Conquistador's vision of America's destiny. To that extent, they're a religiously diverse lot, but one weirdly populated by anti-semites who will happily work with Jewish people.

Crazy Christians are involved in this movement, since world wide violence stemming from troubles in the Middle East are part and parcel of their fantasies of Armageddon and Jesus' return. They work side by side with Jews to maintain the state of Israel, but for completely different reasons. Devout Jewish people believe Israel was granted to them and only them by an omniscient real estate broker. Crazy Christians think that that deity really just wants to gather the heathens into one place so Jesus can come back, and toss all those heathens into a lake of fire who don't thereupon immediately convert to Christianity.

You're right that Sarah Palin is too stupid to know what she's saying. She's also too stupid to know that she's being used by people who do know what they're saying.

"The greatest tyranny is censoring information in order to be better able to control people." - Cristina Saralegui

Why is that Republicans like Palin -- who are so fond of lecturing other people at every conceivable opportunity about the virtue and importance of "taking personal responsibility" -- are every bit as quick and every bit as eager to pass the buck and vehemently (not to mention hypocritically) protest their innocence whenever their own backsides are on the proverbial hotseat? If Palin thinks it's so important for people to face the consequences of their own choices in the shape of their words and actions, then why is she so determined to excuse and absolve herself of any responsibility for her willingness and her bad judgment with regard to using image of a freaking gunsight as a symbol for her desire to see Giffords defeated in the election???
