Linda McMahon goes on the air in Connecticut
By scarce Friday Sep 25, 2009 7:00amLinda McMahon has begun airing tv ads in Connecticut in her quest to secure the Republican nomination and take on Chris Dodd for the U.S. Senate next November. When she recently stepped down as the CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) it was known her approach would be a little different. And from not bothering to vote, to publicly supporting Democrats from time to time, not to mention her own wrestling antics, her entering an already crowded Republican field guarantees Connecticut politics won't be boring.

She'll lose the primary to a stripper.
a pro-wrasslin CEO gettin involved in politics.
First! To make Idiocracy reference that we would one day be lead by professional wrestlers.
Jesse Ventura for president, McMahon for Senate!
And I think he'd likely do well as prez...
This lady though...I don't know much about her at all really...
But her hubby Vince...is kind of a slimeball from what I've read...
I actually believe president Camacho would be better than McCain or Obama.
on the X-Files.
It's swamp gas, reflecting off Uranus.

With an average dentition of 1.7 teeth per capita, you must concede that the heartland is nearer to being "two-toothed".

I don't know about the CT politics not being boring, they've still got ol' Droopy Dawg Lieberman, and his boring factor is high enough to skew the average.
And they laughed at Italy when the porn star ran for office.
Cicciolina!
I've always said American Politics and Punditry was not unlike Pro-wrestling. Pundits, Politicos and wrestlers Jon Stewart, Ann Coulter, Pete Dominick, Hugh Hewitt, Marc Ambinder, Matt Lewis, Jesse Ventura and Mick Foley have all said as much.
You might be interested to know currently Linda McMahon isn't the only wrestling entertainer entering politics, as commentator Jerry Lawler is running for Mayor of Memphis.
The theatrical presentation, psychology, the archetypes of heroes (faces) and villains (heels), the value of charisma and the general, the playing to base emotions, the popularity contest that is Political coverage. Its not all that surprising is it?

Heck in his book, Former Governor and Wrestler Jesse Ventura spoke about his plan to launch his Presidential campaign in 2008 using a wrestling angle (storyline) to get ballot access across America . Showing that Wrestling is not a stigma to run away from. Frankly he would have been a formidable contender.
Couldn't have said it better myself
The fact that she's a Republican has more to do with the fact that Vince is a GOP (especially if youve heard some of these wrestlers talk about politics, like Chris Jericho showing off his abs and then saying that Obama's going to take 66% of his abs away and give them to people with less abs than he does). You're not going to see too many families more anti-union than the McMahon family. Jesse Ventura tries to get the wrestlers to organize with the stuntman's union, got fired, and thats why Hulk Hogan wears the feather boas (as a middle finger to Jesse).
As far as her politics, she's fairly liberal for a GOP.
Not that she's going to win anyway, but the McMahon's are a very jealous family and dont like it when people who worked for them are successful outside of their pervue. When the Rock started to become Rocky Johnson, Duane 'The Rock' Johnson, Duane 'TR' Johnson, and finally Duane Johnson, Vince McMahon was pissed and had many many awful movies made to compete/beat Johnson's success. And when a movie like 'See No Evil' gets more praise that any of your movies and 'Blade 3: Trinity' makes more money than any of your movies, you might want to consider it a lost cause.
But so, too, is it with Jesse Ventura. When he became governor, MANY employees and former employees ran for office, mostly with no intention of following through. Hulk Hogan announced that he was running for President, Jerry 'The King' Lawlor ran for governor, and Ric Flair ran for mayor. Hell, one 80s wrestler Ludvig Borga ran for Norway Parliament...and won!
So this what the McMahon's have got cooking. This has more to do with tapping into the fact that political emotions are running strong and theyre tapping into it. There's no way she can win and if it looks like she might, she'll quit.
...self hating minorities....this party has no future.
... at least that is what they got going @ one of their primaries in Louisiana I believe.
You know, the party of family values and all...
Linda McMahon help the rise of a company that exploits woman and encouraged steroid use. Ruthlessly brought down other wrestling outfits. Has watched wrestler after wrestler at very young ages die be it by the drug use or dangerous stunts. Not to mention how many times they screwed employees. Sure, you got my vote.
No, no it isn't. However, you're presenting a very one-sided account of WWE's history. To wit:
1) Exploiting women. Virtually every wrestling promotion in history is guilty of this to some degree. Despite the fact that there are some women who are phenomenal workers, American audiences haven't taken women wrestlers seriously for the better part of four decades. The only promotion that highlights women as workers is SHIMMER. Even so, WWE has gotten away from much of the "T&A" aspect of the Divas in the last year.
And if you think WWE exploits women, you should look up some stuff from the old ECW sometime.
2) Encouraged steroid use. This one is iffy. WWE's official wellness policy forbids steroid use, and they (usually) suspend those that get caught. Of course the policy isn't perfect, and your chances of getting suspended is sometimes inversely related to how high you are on the card *cough*TRIPLEH*cough. However they have been known to suspend main-eventers should they get caught (see Hardy, Jeff and Mysterio, Rey).
3)Ruthlessly squashed other outfits. True, but mismanagement on the part of the other organizations and their inability to adapt to cable and national exposure was just as responsible.
4) Wrestlers dying young. This has happened, especially in the Pre-Wellness days. However, to say that WWE is responsible for every death is absurd. Many wrestlers that died young died of drug overdoses. Could WWE have done more to help them? Yes--and they have also begun offering rehab for their performers. And let us not forget that other promotions were guilty of this as well. WCW had deaths on their watch, and they were by most accounts even more lenient on drugs than WWE.
The Owen Hart Tragedy, however, truly was indefensible.
5) Screwing employees. I assume you're talking about Bret Hart and the Montreal Screwjob. That event has been debated to death, so I won't go into it here. Most other incidents of Vince "screwing" employees aren't really different from incidents at any other promotion. WCW screwed over plenty of employees in their day. I'm not saying that it's a good thing, but in an industry driven in large part by egos (both of the promoters and the wrestlers themselves) you're bound to get situations where somebody gets screwed over.
It should also be noted that Vince does take care of his people if they get hurt on the job. In addition to rehab, he also pays for any surgery that is needed and wrestlers are paid while they are off due to injury. Retired wrestlers often sign "Legends" contracts that practically guarantee them a job for life. Others become backstage agents, again practically for life. And let's not forget Darren Drozdov, who Vince kept on the payroll a good ten years after he was paralyzed in an in-ring accident.
i'll tell you one thing, what won't go over big in connecticut is someone running for office that doesn't bother to exercise their right to vote. in this state, if you are able to, and you haven't voted, you haven't earned the right to give an opinion. mcmahon might as well be a clown.
hate to be petulant, but wasn't connecticut the state that voted in that weasle lieberman? not to say anything about voting and getting elected to office, but i'm just pointing out that if a state can make a terrible mistake as in electing lieberman to office, then they are apt to error again, voiting record aside. sorry if i'm wrong on this, the older i get the hazier the memory.
...but as the singer of the song that prefaces Monk says, "i could be wrong, but i don't think so."
They are not allowed to show any logos with the "F" still on it per a judge's order. Even the old ones are to be blurred or changed. I'm emailing the real WWF right now.
Clearly this isn't an official Linda-for-Senate video--at least not entirely. This is most likely a mash-up of her commercial and some clips from the past. If it were official, they would have blurred out the "F" from the old logo.
Still, it is great to relive some classic Robo-Linda moments :p
She would fit right in with the likes of such repuke luminaries and former luminaries such as Craig, Vitter, Lieberman (yeah, I know he is an indy), Santorum, et al.
LETS GET READY TO RUMBLE!
There.That's out of the way.
Sorry.
... with wrestling, a fake one.
Cheers.
Micheal Buffer used to say it for WCW's main events years ago.
I stopped watching WWE in 2003. I like TNA better.
I haven't watched since Ric Flair was still wrasslin...
I know you were trying to harken back to olden times with the Ric Flair reference, but Ric Flair only retired two Wrestlemanias ago.
As far as the clip goes, did she actually APPROVE that as a campaign ad? I realize WWE has been good to the state economically, but who's gonna look at that ad and go, "Oh, look at her getting piledriven by Kane. I bet she'd be a great senator." Heck, why not show the angle where Vince had her committed in an insane asylum while he tried to have an affair with Trish Stratus?
The ad is a parody. I really do wish that the individual who created this post--"scarce"--had made that clear.
instead of debates, she and Chris Dodd can settle it via a wrestling match.
It's probably the only chance she would have to win, cause unless Dodd has been hitting the Senate gym, I don't think he could take her down, LOL

We need someone willing to kick a politician in the b@lls.
kick YOU in the balls then.
The shortsightedness of the American public is astounding sometimes.
I'm just tired of watching our representatives sitting there like morons while they are being fed a bunch of bu!!shit.
I wish they hadn't sat still for Bush when he was feeding all of us that "mushroom cloud" crap.
If anyone deserved to be kneed it was Bush.
So I thought that McMahon might be presenting us with an interesting new tactic.
Appealing to reason ain't working out so good.
Schiff is a hedge fund manager who has a huge following in the financial world. He is an anti-government, free market extremist who will get the financial backing of Wall Street. His stated goal is to get in, cut governrment spending, and get back out to capitalize on the huge investment opportunities created by turning the public trust over to the private sector.
Schiff is a self promoter who many know as the guy who called the crash a year before it happened. Schiff isn't the only one who called the collapse, he's just the one who is loudest about claiming credit for it. Many economists like Enzio vo Pfeil and Mike Whitney were a year ahead of Peter Schiff.
She looks like watches too much glen beckerhead.
Or is she his sister?
They sure look alike.
She said government spending is out of control. I ask, What was she looking at for the past eight years??
Wonder what her take on worker's rights will be?
http://www.wrestling101.com/101/newsitem/6736/
Appoint nuts, people who know nothing about the job, and other misfits.
Ugh..what's next,
I look forward to watching her candidacy go down in well-deserved flames.
Adios!-Lucha Libre!!
So she's running an ad for her candidacy that showcases...a bunch of faked moments? I have to wonder if she's serious, or whether she's cynically telling voters that her tenure would be full of "effort" just as fake as those silly pantomimes.
She'll suffer a "career ending" injury which will cause her to give up her office to her biggest rival.
Through a medical miracle...she will be cured in 6 months and file an injunction with the State Supreme Court to be reinstated. The Court will rule that the dispensation of the office will be decided via Steel Cage Match to be televised on PPV at either Wrestlemania or SummerSlam...whichever comes first.
but i can tell you this: the wrestling world thrives on the mantra that a fool's born every moment -- regardless the message i PROMISE you if she goes to washington, fake moments will explode and multiply like a gremlin eating after dark and diving into an olympic sized pool.
this is as frightening as any terror plot -- --shiver--
Government spending too much? What she is really saying is because the rich are getting richer and the poor getting poorer, this is cutting into her business profits. The majority of the WWE fan base is middle to lower income bracket families because they already cannot afford vacations or to take their children to pro sports events.
like snooty liberal elites. WWE isn't a pro sport - say what?! Fake - did someone say fake?!! How dare you. You wanna get in the ring with one of these guys? You wanna get bitch slapped like Stossel www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrX9Ca7LSyQ ? These guys & gals are the greateast athletes in the world! This is the greatest spectacle in pro sports. Just ask the McMahons.
If she's Republican she's crazy.
I've been voting for 34 years. If I lived in CT she would be the first R to get my vote. I mean the woman is running for Senate after that horrible Brainbuster move was applied to her. She's lucky she isn't dead!
scares the piss out of me. politics have been a wrestling story line and freak show for far too long already. --we need some honesty and integrity -- take my word for it when i tell you it doesn't exist in the world of professional wrestling. i do know.
