So did Fran Townsend (former Homeland Security Advisor under George Bush) just admit we sent (via rendition) detainees to Egypt to be tortured? Sort of, unintentionally.

Marcy Wheeler at Firedoglake has more.

When Mona Eltahawy explicitly described what many of us learned from Jane Mayer–Hosni Mubarak’s appointed Vice President, Omar Suleiman, has a long history of cooperating with us in accepting and torturing people rendered to Egypt–and when Wolf asks whether this went on in the Bush Administration (it dates back to the Clinton Administration), Townsend explains the best known example is that of Maher Arar. Wolf corrects her that that involved Syria.

Poor Fran can't even keep her torture states straight. She should have remembered former CIA agent Bob Baer's famous maxim:

"If you want a serious interrogation, you send a prisoner to Jordan. If you want them to be tortured, you send them to Syria. If you want someone to disappear - never to see them again - you send them to Egypt."

So many torture nations, so little time to keep them all straight.

"Mugsy's Rap Sheet": Recording history for those who seek to rewrite it.

Not just Egypt, but also Tunisia, Turkey, Morocco, Iraq, and Afghanistan -- the CIA (the entire USA intelligence infrastructure) is running out of tin-hat dictators and Islamist rendition|torture destinations.

Eventually, the USA will have no allies only enemies all across the globe, and the fleets of armed Predator UAV drones will be ubiquitous -- and coming to a USA city near you, soon. Darth Cheney's "Global Murder Incorporated" will reach fruition, with mercenary tactical teams everywhere refueling and rearming them. The USA's "War on Terror" will ultimately be recognized as the "War of Terror" that it is.

GHW Bush's Global Murder, Inc. He was the CIA guy who became President who plucked Darth to be his Sec of Defense. And, GHWB begat GWB who 'selected' Darth to be his VP and selected Gates (former CIA) to be his Sec of Defense..... >>>>>

and, so it goes.

Sadly, I think you're right. The fascists in this country will not stop til they have a monopoly on power. If they get more desperate, they may try to murder opponents. Don' think it can't happen here.

I suspect behind the scenes the US will do whatever it can to squash this revolution. This is just like how GHW Bush was mute at the Tienamen Sqaure uprising- Obama is a failure speaking out in favor of those fighting for their liberties.

How long can the US government go around and boast to the rest of the world how only we have freedom?
That boast is getting tiresome

If the Saudis are against it, so is the US government. They've been working on regime change slowly there but they had a plan. Those plans are now up in smoke.

The CIA and Mossad are working overtime.

I thought Syria was on the sh!t list (Axis of Evil) with not even diplomatic relations between the two countries. But it was ok to deal with them to torture those deemed to be terrorist. WTF.

I guess it's just more outsourcing.

geez Wolf, i dunno did brushcutting take place during the Bush Admin ...?
Why not ask the Boston Red Sox ...?

After being corrected by the dumbest talking head in news who must have had this fact piped to him through his earpiece because there is no way he would say something off the cuff:

2:28 - Fran - "Because of the State Department human rights report there were procedures put in place to help try (wink) to protect anyone returned from (dontcha mean to) Egypt from suffering from the kind of human rights abuses....." (Cut off by Idiot Wolfbeard)

Why the interruption numbnuts? There was no reason to stop Fran from talking and finishing this question other than someone yelling in his earpiece to do so lest Fran drop knowledge about those "human rights abuses".

I hate CNN even more than Faux.

... have to be corrected by that Dip$hit Blister (and his producer ... ) you better hang it up.
Mahar wasnt 'sent to Canada' ... he was a Canadian citizen detained at JFK and shipped to Syria for a year' vacation at Club ElectricCable, he eventually rec'd $10 million in hush money ... not that he was a CIA asset or anything

My fervent hope is that those who assume the future leadership in Egypt will expose all of the crimes committed by their former regime on behalf of the US. Perhaps at that point enough additional evidence beyond Wikileaks will force the international community to demand accountability from our nation for the crimes against humanity that have been perpertrated in our name(without the pemission of many) by our corrupt and imperialistic government! "So did Fran Townsend (former Homeland Security Advisor under George Bush) just admit we sent (via rendition) detainees to Egypt to be tortured? Sort of, unintentionally."

Sort of my arse, she talks casually about there being a long history of renditions from the US to Egypt and refers to Syria (where we renditioned an innocent Canadian to be tortured) as "one" of presumably many places. She is not unintentionally disclosing anything, she is "just sayin'" because our government is not the slightest bit embarrassed about having people tortured and probably assumes most Americans feel better knowing they do it. What have we become!?
