Chapel Hill sends SWAT team to arrest Occupy "anarchists"
Charming.
CHAPEL HILL (WTVD) -- The Town of Chapel Hill is explaining its show of force over protesters associated with the Occupy Wall Street movement.
On Sunday, officers armed with semi-automatic rifles, rushed a building where activists were squatting and arrested seven people.
Chapel Hill Police said about 70 protesters broke-in to the empty car dealership on West Franklin Street Saturday and set up camp.
One of them, Hannah Shaw, said she was scared when police raided the business.
"Having 20 officers with guns pointed at me and friends of mine, and people I didn't know, it was terrifying it was the first time in my life that I thought, 'I could be killed right now,'" she said. "I actually was not charged with anything. So basically the police are saying I didn't do anything wrong but I, as an unarmed civilian, am somebody who deserved to have an assault rifle pointed in my face."
Chapel Hill police said they took additional security measures, because they believed some members of the group were anarchists, who could've barricaded themselves in the building, and set traps.

.. and the politicians who arm them ..
.. it would take just one provocateur and Kent State would look like a picnic ..
When will government of the people, by the politicians, for the corporations perish from this Earth?
Not soon enough!
with you tax dollars to keep you "safe". I'm sure y'all feel safer, don't ya, Chapel Hill?

Just remember two words when the day comes: HEAD SHOT!
Why are we fighting conservatives over there when they are already here
It's not JUST the GOP. We have to dispel that myth.

...and I have observed and supported the #OWS group that has occupied the space in front of the courthouse called Peace and Freedom Plaza since this movement began. This group has been peaceful and cooperative with police since the very beginning, and the police have reciprocated. There was cooperation recently during the annual halloween party in downtown Chapel Hill which draws costumed partiers in the tens of thousands. The #OWS crowd cooperatively vacated their position for the night while the halloween party was conducted. The next day, they moved back in. There have been ZERO problems with this group.
That said, the people who moved into the vacated car dealership ARE NOT THE SAME PEOPLE. This is an entirely different bunch who have forced their way into private property in order to associate themselves with the #OWS movement. They are blatantly breaking and entering, which is a felony, not what I would call civil disobedience. I doubt they have the support of the folks who have been peacefullty occupying the Peace and Justice Plaza all this time.
WWFSMD?
...that's Peace and Justice Plaza (Peace and Freedom, Peace and Justice, Peace and Quiet.....yada, yada, yada). My bad.
WWFSMD?
...that's Chapel Hill,North Carolina, home of the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, number 1 college basketball team in the country. Go Heels.
WWFSMD?
I also live in the area, and was horrified seeing these pictures when they first hit twitter. Chapel Hill is usually a pretty liberal place to be (traffic cameras were removed from stoplights because of the privacy violation), and interactions I've had with police here have been completely civil. The occasional person who latches on to a progressive activity in order to stir things up for the sake of stirring things up doesn't do any of us any favors. Usually they won't go through with things if they see a lack of support (e.g, the two drunk women who wanted to rush the police when we marched against the invasion of Iraq - the police who were mostly just watching and who actually kept the pro-war people, few though they were, behind their barrier so we could have our say).
....since this morning, and before a news conference that clarified who these people were. It now reads, in part:
...I'm told that Breaking and Entering is a misdemeanor in NC, but it is still illegal. And it is still a criminal offense, not like civil disobedience.
WWFSMD?
Anarchists? We're a nation of 330 million. Are we afraid of a few anarchists? This is absurd. Barricades and traps? I'm all aquiver.
What does the POLICE STATE look like? Look at this picture again and really think about it.
