Eric Cantor has wormed his way into the hardened little hearts of Republican leaders by playing the hardcore tea party bad guy. All stimulus is bad, the stimulus bill failed, yada yada yada. That video at the top is from early 2010, where he's all about cutting the budget because austerity and tax cuts are clearly the way to economic freedom, doncha know?

Only, Eric Cantor is as big of a hypocrite now as he was then, and Newsweek has the letters to prove it.

Via PoliticusUSA:

During a March 1, 2009 appearance on ABC’s This Week, Rep. Cantor said that the government can’t create jobs, “And what we see in this budget, frankly, is an attempt, again, to try and stimulate the economy through government expenditure. And, you know, at best what that can do is redistribute wealth. It can’t create jobs; it can’t create wealth. We’ve got to get back to focusing on job creation and creating prosperity.”

Newsweek has uncovered letters that show Rep. Cantor requesting hundreds of millions of stimulus dollars for his district at the same time; he was publicly claiming that government can’t create jobs.

A browse through the actual letters shows that Cantor was not shy about what he asked for, either. $60 million for commercial shipbuilding loan guarantees, and nearly $75 million for high speed rail grants. Yes,

Yes, Cantor was for high speed rail before he was against it, and ultimately decided he wanted to repeal that which he begged for. Is there no end to the dishonesty and hypocrisy of these people?

No, there isn't. And to prove it, check out the report from Think Progress about all the Wall Street money Cantor was raking in while he was calling the Occupy protesters a "mob."
