I'm not sure what's worse in this clip: Rick Santorum's answer or the audience booing the gay soldier.
Santorum's bottom line: No sex in the military. Celibacy, FTW! Also, he would reinstate DADT. I promise to add the transcript later.

QUESTION: In 2010, when I was deployed to Iraq, I had to lie about who I was, because I'm a gay soldier, and I didn't want to lose my job.
My question is, under one of your presidencies, do you intend to circumvent the progress that's been made for gay and lesbian soldiers in the military?

SANTORUM: Yeah, I -- I would say, any type of sexual activity has absolutely no place in the military. And the fact that they're making a point to include it as a provision within the military that we are going to recognize a group of people and give them a special privilege to -- to -- and removing "don't ask/don't tell" I think tries to inject social policy into the military. And the military's job is to do one thing, and that is to defend our country.
We need to give the military, which is all-volunteer, the ability to do so in a way that is most efficient at protecting our men and women in uniform.

And I believe this undermines that ability.

KELLY: So what -- what -- what would you do with soldiers like Stephen Hill? I mean, he's -- now he's out. He's -- you know, you saw his face on camera. When he first submitted this video to us, it was without his face on camera. Now he's out. So what would you do as president?
SANTORUM: I think it's -- it's -- it's -- look, what we're doing is playing social experimentation with -- with our military right now. And that's tragic.
I would -- I would just say that, going forward, we would -- we would reinstitute that policy, if Rick Santorum was president, period.
That policy would be reinstituted. And as far as people who are in -- in -- I would not throw them out, because that would be unfair to them because of the policy of this administration, but we would move forward in -- in conformity with what was happening in the past, which was, sex is not an issue. It is -- it should not be an issue. Leave it alone, keep it -- keep it to yourself, whether you're a heterosexual or a homosexual.

It was a little more than "unfortunate." These people are vying for the right to be the commander-in-chief of our military. Yet not one of them spoke to the disrespect paid to that soldier. Not one. Not one stood on the stage in front of that audience, with the cameras and the lights on and said "That was wrong." Not even Gary Johnson.

Karoli's headline is a lie. Listen to the clip, one person boos really loud, and then 2-3 others. The "audience" doesn't boo, that is a smear. Get it? If you are at a movie, and a person is snoring in the 4th row, the "audience" was snoring. So the new rule is that when a tiny minority of jerks in a public space make a scene, and you are there, you are now part of their obnoxious display. Jerks win over the majority. If you are at a movie and a couple guys are snoring, Karoli thinks the "audience" was snoring. No one talks about the vast majority of people who did not boo. That means nothing. The audience was being disrespectful to soldiers, or whatever, even though almost no one booed. This is so easy to grasp that it kinda pisses me off that some people have to stoop so low.
Rick Santorum is a jerk, and he's wrong about Gays serving (in fact he's downright contradicting his own argument). Lets stick to the facts and the arguments, unless you have a pathological desire to raise up images of the perfect absolute right winger to hate (and obviously, they are all the same imagined fiction), which is more the point of pieces like this I think, and imagine a whole audience of them. More importantly, nobody there voiced any objection to the booing or offered even a smidgen of support to a man who put his own life on the line to defend his country. That's truly despicable.
What special privilege? Gays simply can't be fired for their sexual orientation, just like straights can't. Neither orientation is given a special privilege to show public displays of affection. The military is very much a family friendly institution. When someone is awarded a medal or new rank, their family is invited and personally thanked for supporting that service member. Santorum has no clue what the military does.

Well, was it wrong to dis him by not thanking him for his service.? Do we preface every interview with a fireman, teacher, garbage collector, forest ranger, policeman with "Thank you for your service?" Give me a break. The fact is that he's a soldier who's in Iraq to enforce wrong-headed government policy, by killing people if deemed necessary. He isn't St. Francis of Asissi.

I hope Santorum would make it a punishable offense if heterosexual service members ever publicly displayed any affection toward their wives or husbands. In fact, heterosexuals, to be fair, would have to HIDE the fact that they are heterosexual -- because in Rick Santorum's world sex has no place in military life. Under DADT no gay soldier could have a partner visit them and within sight of any military personnel hold hands or kiss, because to do so is "telling." So, if gays have to hide their sexual preferences, so, too, must heterosexuals. And, if they were forced to do so, heterosexuals would all of a sudden find out just how onerous it is to have to pretend to not be a sexual being.
Santorum's answer was also horrible, because at no time does he explain what the hell DOGS are supposed to do.
