In the weeks immediately following the sinking of the Deepwater Horizon oil platform on April 20, 2010, Conservative pundits quickly tried to minimize the amount of damage we could expect from all that oil washing ashore, comparing it to "natural seepage" from the ocean floor. Then the oil started washing ashore, and suddenly this was "Obama's Katrina".
Republicans have absolutely nothing to offer, except denial.

forgive me! That's not really America though, not if former Alaska Independence Party member Todd Palin has anything to do with it.
Despite all the rightwing yahoos in AK, Anchorage itself is a beautiful city. It's one of the most "livable" cities I've ever been in, and as a bonus, in 20-30 minutes from downtown you can be hiking a trail in wilderness and never see another soul.
The only drawback (for me) is that the winter nights are so loooonnnnngggggg.
In Anchorage we referred to Wasilla residents as Wasillabillies and valley pukes long before Palin reinforced those descriptions

Today at the Indy 500 EVERY car ran on 100% ethanol. Brazil runs on sugar cane ethanol but not us. Why? Congress and ethanol tariffs. Someone would be running the video as the activists would walk up to Hume and dump all the oil all over him and yell, "Here's the oil Brit!!!"

The fact that Fox News is laying into that angle means that Obama is responding well. The fact that they deny it's a problem means that it's game over for human residence along the entire Gulf, the Caribbean, and half of the East Coast.

but there is no oil spill in Philly. I can only speak for my block, but I don't see it anywhere. I don't hang out down at the Schuykill or the Delaware on a regular basis; last time I looked, no oil except for what might appear from a motor boat - so you go water skiing and don't worry about it.
(Truthfully, the thought of this spill has been hard to cope with, to accept that there might be no solution, wonder why there is no mention or memorial for the lives lost in this mess, and that BP thinks it's a very minor problem.)
