Sen. Al Franken Debates Health Care Reform
Sen. Al Franken during the health care bill debate taking on Republican talking points on rationing, tort reform, taxes on CEO compensation and the need for reforming our health care system.

And the conservatives hate him. Why? Because he's not afraid them or afraid to call them out on their bullshit. Taking on the fights that Wellstone taught him. Paul Wellstone would be proud Senator Al Franken. The right can call him a partisan comedian if they want. But he's better than anything the right has to offer us. But they need to call him partisan comedian Senator Al Franken. President Al Franken has a nice ring to it.
is intended to be a factual statement
Yes I do.
We have a shadow government in the US. It sells hamburgers, turkey, insurance, credit cards, whiskey, etc. We can do something about this at http://democratz.org
Unless you do something about this shadow government, you will continue to have to sit on the sidelines and complain about the nasty things that they do to Americans.

he even won over a bunch of teabaggers, which was an absolutely amazing feat. no wonder the repugs tried all they could to delay him getting seated.
Some stuff you can't make up!
Another Franken fan here
between Al Franken and Sarah Palin.
Gotta love big Al!
So much better than whatshisname.
"Paul Wellstone would be proud Senator Al Franken."
If Senator Fraken can keep this up Paul would be very proud indeed.

Senator Reid,
you have ignored the will of the people long enough. we know we do not matter to you. what you did to enable republicans during the bush years will not be forgotten. you might salvage some support from some by supporting a genuine, single-payer public option. Though I have completely lost faith in you, some others are still of the belief that you might do something to benefit the people of America.
For the sake of those people and for the Americans who need your help, I ask you this time not to be as completely dissappointing as you have been continually since your ascent to majority leader of the Senate. For once, please give more than platitudes and vague misleading statements in support of what the people of your country want and need.
Thank you for your time and attention.

order to distract and appease real people. That would allow them to proceed with their plans to corporatize the entire planet while we're busy enjoying our new single payer health care. That they haven't thought of this is suspicious. What are they really up to? Perhaps their hubris is getting in the way of their critical thinking? Their greed? Maybe they're picking up the wrong signals from Businessman Jesus. Something big is afoot, and it's not good for us.
...the new DVD movie, Hardwire is out. I got my husband to sit down and watch it with me. He agreed, good film!

inside the beltway, all are important. outside the beltway, all are important, except the residents of DC proper.
it's just an incestuous inner circle-jerk - literally!

when reid finds out Al is working for the middel class Anericans he will call Al in and bitch him out. reid to Al: Al, you need to start taking money from the health insurance companies like the rest of us do. Your first job here is to make sure you become a millionaire be for you leave congress. 2nd. you must make sure the corporations get what they want. After you do this, you can think, I said think about the working class. And I "said" you can think about the middel class. I did not say you could help them. Just make it look like you are hellping them. Then you will fit in like the rest of "us".
Senator Al Franken...
thank you, minnesota, for your wise votes...
Now who's getting the last laugh? A "policy wonk" he calls himself. I haven't seen anything more intelligent-sounding coming out of the Senate since... Obama left.

i'll never forget when al was on letterman - was it 03? early '04? - to announce that he was going to have a progressive/liberal radio show, on a new station called AirAmericaRadio... so excited!!!
finally! an outlet for truth, justice and the REAL american way!
when i discovered the only way to listen from my area was to stream on the computer, i tolerated that for about 1 week before purchasing my XM radio so that i could take it with me...
then i get hooked on the TP and C&L blogs... but that's another story...
al franken was not the best radio personality, alone... but his GUESTS, his research and topics, all combined as a great political and civics education... and for that i am forever grateful!
he helped to open the floodgates... there's no stopping it now...
Al Franken is just trying to make Republicans look bad by forcing them to vote against things that actually make sense! Wahh!
The speeches go and as I close the door, eliminate all Political Scams for support from either self serving party, I see nothing getting done only talk, talk talk.
Remember our ELECTED Leader, he has nothing to say, I am done.
Remember the New pledge allegiance to the Flag
I pledge allegiance to the Corporation and the Corporate Flag for which it stands for, One Corporation under a leading Corporation and to the Corporation and its PROFITS. One corporation indivisible with Liberty and Justice for all the Corporations.
If you are done; as you say, then talk is all you have. Must everything be crapped on with pessimism?

Some stuff you can't make up!
the utter inability of Minnesota's conservative voters to separate Al Franken's attention to ISSUES... from the LIES that were told about him and his personal life during the election. The vote was as close as it was because Minnesota Republicans continuously accused Franken of being THE ANTICHRIST. There were salacious lies about his relationship with his wife. There were accusations that he refused to pay back taxes in the different states he worked in as an entertainer. They accused him of being an ATHIEST... and much WORSE non-stop personal attacks. I have a sister and brother-in-law who HATE everything Franken stands for... because of the lies they heard about him IN CHURCH! Why do you think that somebody as DIM-WITTED as Michelle Bachmann can get elected in that state... or that Norm Carlson could run as closes as he did to Franken?
I LIKE everything I know about Franken. I believe he's going to be a GREAT SENATOR. But believe me... whether you believe in GOD or not... IT'S A MIRACLE that he got elected.
thank the gods for miracles...
Just had a thought that his background as a comedian is actually quite proper for his current job. Not in the obvious sense, but in the sense that humor requires that you know your audience well enough to understand their emotions, how to play them to your advantage. He uses logic with voters, and so far he's played his hand in the Senate masterfully.
It's great to see Al deliver his calm, collected, well thought out and researched speech. I'm so tired of the inbred, shouting, sputtering, bible thumping, sheep humping, bathroom trolling, Repubtards throwing up about, death panels this and birth certificates that. Calm discussion is such a relief. Show em how it's done Al. Good job. If you're a hydrocephalus headed Repubtard that's a tough act to follow.
Al for hanging in there when it looked bleak. You're a breath of fresh air in a room full of swamp gas.
Keep up the good work!
I hope Al Franken can help deliver meaningful health care by the end of this year or so.
...Meanwhile, as I see ads on TV for health insurance claiming that they will cover pre-existing conditions, how can we know we can trust those same companies who have historically denied coverage to pre-existing conditions? - I know Einstein mentioned that "you can't solve a problem on the same plane it was created."
I'm fortunate enough to have health insurance thru Kaiser Permenente, even though it costs well over $200 a month. When I called to ask them if they profit from these premiums, they claimed to be not-for-profit - maybe something to do with the Kaiser Foundation.
For now, this HMO plan is better than those who've denied me coverage such as e-Health Insurance, Assurant Health, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield...until any public option becomes available to help drive down the costs. With prices continually climbing on health care, I can't always afford what I may really need such as affordable dental care as I am on KP. I have a wide, relatively painful hole on one of my top molars, so I was thinking if health insurance reform doesn't get passed, then I may seek the Free Clinic, where I will have to put a $40 money order deposit in order to be on a weight list for 6-10 months before I can go in for that.
All in all, at least I have some form of health coverage, and KP doesn't seem to drop my coverage if or when I get sick. However, the premiums could be lower, and I wonder where the $200+ is being divvied up if it is not going to profits and admin. costs - I wonder if it really is charitibly divvied up among the Kaiser Foundation...What really has had me upset is how e-Health Insurance, Assurant Health, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield have denied me coverage, where there doesn't seem to be any consequences for doing something about it as they profit from it that would otherwise be a crime in other industrialized nations. Having KP is okay, but it doesn't necessarily have good dental coverage.
So, it is just common sense for a free and educated society to have affordable and approachable health care. To deny coverage and profit from the sick sure seems to defy all logic and reason!
Sad to see sanity and competence to be in such short supply in our senate. A worthy successor to Sen. Wellstone.
Only IF CT had the guts to elect Ned Lamont. How much better off we would BE.
This person is a ray of sunshine in an otherwise dark America. I cannot express how much respect I have for this person. What I especially like about Al is that he seems able to handle politics very well. He seems to be able to see through things, and see through people, without letting it get to him. There is no end to what his potential might be. No wonder he was a comedienne. It makes perfect sense.
I wish that I could say the same thing about the current occupant of the White House.
it was well worth the wait to get the junior senator from Minnesota on board where he can be busily involved in making meaningful legislation.
And, 2. It's amazing that senator Lincoln has an idea that seeks to make sure that insurance companies be required to actually spend a certain amount of money on providing health care for each dollar that they take in in premiums. Now, why is it that she doesn't understand how a public option would be the only option to provide true choice to some consumers if she's concerned about her constituents having some choice?
