The one part of the economy that is doing well I swear to god is the gun industry. Since Obama got elected gun sales have shot up because there's a, you know, this is, I read this in USA Today, a survey of Americans, how they felt about Obama's election, 67% proud, 59% excited, 30% pessimistic, 27% afraid. So we'd like to f#%k with those people right now. The people who are afraid. A little something we call Obama World.
In Obama World all guns will be confiscated and melted down to make a giant statue of Allah.
The National Anthem will be changed from the Star Spangled Banner to Gin and Juice.
The colors of the American flag will be changed from red, white and blue to black, black and leopard print.
The Department of Health and Human services will now be the Department of Earth, Wind and Fire.
And the Obama Cabinet will consist of Shaft, Dolemite, Foxy Brown, Mandingo, Cleopatra Jones, Superfly and Blacula.
And finally the government will listen in on your phone calls, search you without a warrant, arrest you without charges and hold you without a trial. Oh wait, that's now.

There were a lot of "Catholic Jokes" going around. All I remember is "The Pope is sending Kennedy a necklace of bowling-balls...to put on the Statue of Liberty" (as a rosary). A few laughs will help things- I hope.
Plus Obama is going to paint the white house black. I actually heard a caller say that one morning on Washington Journal (c-span morning call in show)

For real, I do have a skinhead neighbor. Anyway, he told me last week that I could take my Obama sign down now. I told him we're leaving it up through January. He then said he was glad I was happy but he "wasn't stupid" and was taking steps... namely he bought a couple more guns. Because, you know, "we" have to protect ourselves now. I wonder how he's gonna feel when he sees the Menorah appear on our dining room sideboard in front of the windows that face his house?
Stupid doesn't have limits but I wish it did. I'd settle for a 1 mile radius from my home.

Years ago, I used to work with a paranoid Y2K nutjob who espoused the idea that Clinton was going to suspend civil liberties and impose martial law, using Y2K as an excuse. He was a gun nut, WWII reenactor ( loved playing the Nazi's too, go figure), and Bible-thumper. He would always ask me what I would do if Clinton were to do such a thing, my response was, "If ANY President, even one I voted for, would do such a thing. I would be right alongside you lobbing Malotov cocktails at the tanks." Last year, after years and years of the Bush administration decimating the Constitution, I called him and asked him if he would go to a protest with me in Crawford, TX ( I live in that proud blue island of sanity, Austin) , considering that we had a President that had suspended habeas corpus, illegally wiretapped citizens, allowed torture during interrogations, etc. All I received from the other end of the line was silence, then he hung up.

Maher points out the absurdities that will occur when Obama is sworn into office. But what he does not acknowledge in his last comment is that the [alleged] liberal president-elect Obama voted to grant the telecom companies immunity as well as having voted to reauthorize the USA PATRIOT ACT, which allows "the government [to] listen in on your phone calls, search you without a warrant, arrest you without charges and hold you without a trial." Yet one is supposed to believe that Obama was the lesser of two evils when compared to the odious John McCain. Somehow one finds it doubtful that Obama would be a card-carrying member of that dreaded [alleged]communist organization, the ACLU.

The thing that stood out to me was the Congresswoman from FL. I have seen her other appearances on Real Time where she was failing desperately in her attempt to defend the Bush administration. In one heated exchange I believe Richard Belzer called her a bitch. It was a stark contrast to this episode where she was much more at ease with the other panelists, and more importantly, herself. There is no question that our country has its share of hardline zealots who will yearn for the days of control held by neocons like Cheney and religious whack-jobs bowing down to the demands of Dobson but their numbers and influence are dwindling. Because of this, Ros-Lehtinen and other republicans may be more willing to work with the dems, whether it is for the good of our country or for their political careers.

the dems gave the repugs $140Bil in pork to ensure the bailout requested by boosh. that should tell you something about that willingness.
the press is promoting the idea that Obama can't fix anything because the bush actions are somehow made permanent by presidential fiat or by a directive to the various executive agencies.

If any of Obama's expressed agenda were real, he would not be working with Pelosi to give unfettered cash to the auto industry and the dems would have insisted on accountability for the original $700Bil bailout that was actually a bailout plus $140Bil in repug pork.

The NRA has been assuring its bazillion members that the new liberals coming to power in January will take away all of the gun rights, forcing them to defends themselves with butter knives.
None of this, of course, has anything to do with the NRA's relationship to gun manufacturers and gun dealers, who are making money hand over fist while most sectors of the economy are in the tank.
I don't think Obama will do this but he should. Make these cretins learn to defend themselves like real men with fists, not with toys designed for cowards.

That closeted gay RightWing evangelical Christian editor of Newsweek floated the lie that nobody has won with as great a margin of victory as Obama just did in 20 years..."not since George H.W. Bush defeated Dukakis". Of course, neither Maher nor anyone else on the panel disputed that comment, obviously meant to underscore and remind us of decades of Democratic Party failure to win the hearts and minds of the American people.
In fact, Maher jumped in to agree with him before he even finished the statement.

Obama won with a +192 Electoral Vote margin and a +6.7 point Popular Vote margin.

I've been calling bullshit on that the last two election cycles.
I remember a lot of those "red states" being blue when Clinton won in consecutive landslides. Yet you NEVER hear anyone talking about "Clinton Republicans"...you always hear "Reagan Democrats."
The other thing people never mention is that we've elected Democratic presidents 12 times and Republicans only 9 times since the crash of '29.
So enough of this Red State bullshit.
I guess that depends on what you define as "Democrat" issues. There are plenty of us Dems who agree with Maher on most issues. It's not Maher's fault that the Dems have lacked balls for so long.
Democrat and Liberal are not synonymous.

The best comment ever I heard about an Obama presidency was from some shitkicker in West Virginia. He said that if Obama one, "he would make us slaves, cos' they used to be slaves." It was so fucking insanely stupid that I couldn't even be mad at it.
The comment I heard from one of my knuckle-dragging coworkers was that Obama would force all Christians to pray to Mohammad. I didn't even try and explain to him that first, Obama isn't a Muslim, and that even he was Muslims don't pray to Mohammad; that would be the equivalent of Christians praying to Moses or John the Baptist. It would have been futile anyway, when you have people like him and Congressman Virgil "Single Brain Cell" Goode that are ignorant on a Palin level. The comment you heard from that slack-jawed yokel from WV is better, but it seems that this level of stupidity is rampant among the gun-toting, Confederate flag waving, dimwits.
Not a big Maher fan, but its so fun scaring the rednecks I'll just have to post this at all my favorite conservative blogs.
