SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) --Accused man's mom blames Fox News for behavior:

Gregory Giusti's 83-year-old mother had not heard that her son had been arrested, but she told ABC7 he has a history of mental problems. She does not think he would be capable of carrying out the threat; he has never owned a gun, and she blames Fox News for getting her son worked up.

Giusti was arrested Wednesday afternoon for threatening Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi over recent healthcare legislation.

"Greg frequently gets in with a group of people that have really radical ideas and that are not consistent with myself or the rest of the family, which gets him into problems," Eleanor Giusti said. "I say Fox News, or all of those that are really radical, and he, that's where he comes from."

Giusti, 48, has a long history of encounters with law enforcement. Read on...

Who would have guessed it? Think ClusterFox will send Bill-O's stalker producer Griffy out to harass her about why she's being so mean to them? My guess is they'll ignore it just like Tom Coburn defending Pelosi. Haven't seen any push back on that one yet either.

has no problem making the connection between Faux Noose Network and violent behavior IRL, then WFT problem does the Obama DoJ have doing the same, and begin prosecuting -- all their on-air pundits, Roger Ailes, AND Rupert Murdock -- conspiracy to incite violent criminal behavior.

I want to know.

... what is legally provable in court. Even the statement by Giusti's mother, which is certainly interesting and matches up with what many of us think about FOX's programming, might not be admissible in court as evidence.

WizardLeft1's picture

Not all people with mental problems are violent for one. Most in fact are not.

I have known plenty of people over the years with mental problems who are not as easily misled as this poor guy is.

The fear regarding healthcare in people who have mental problems and on disability and receiving Medicare or Medicaid is a bad mix when misinformation is out there.

Mental health services have been cut very much over the past decade and it's hard for people with mental problems to get adequate services.

These days people who get mental health services often do so behind bars and in jail/prison after going out and doing crazy things such as in this case here.

It is too bad that people with mental problems must end up getting the help they need behind bars in prison. It is also too bad that mental health services are often the first to be cut by lawmakers in state after state and these people are viewed as throwaways by society.

I am not excusing this guy's behavior and nobody should but one of the larger questions is that mental health services have been cut in large measures over the past decade and continue to be cut at this time as well.

It's very easy to say that and move on, but it's not the reality of things. I'm not a conservative and I hate Glenn Beck and yet I found what you said to be very stupid. Somehow you're gonna have to reconcile that.

glogrrl's picture

to be ignoring the obvious. Anybody with half a brain can see that the entire intent of Faux Noise, Becky, El Rushbo, O'Lielly, inSanity, et al. is to incite their listeners/watchers to riot. Oh, wait...........

ect...ect...although it's true that FOX isn't helping the situation

Ay milktoast.
You know this topic is about the inflammatory rhetoric coming from Faux Nooz.
Yet you continue to take your shots.
Fook it. I don't care. Keep it up.
I'm sure someone will flag your comments.

What is your conceptual, continuity?

Yeah, but that's the LIBERAL side of America.....the conservatards just obey the Faux boys like good little sheep and yell, scream, and throw bricks and make threats--all the while not knowing why they're doing it. They don't give a damn about those things you just mentioned...only liberals do. They think those are all GOOD things!

“The greatest evildoers are those who don’t remember because they have never given thought to the matter, and, without remembrance, nothing can hold them back,”

I'm not a conservative and I hate Glenn Beck and yet I found what you said to be very stupid.

A) "I'm just sayin'."
B) "I'm not gay, I just have a wide stance."
C) "I believe in family values, but occasionally hike the Appalachian Trail."
D) "I'm not gay, I just like to hang out in highway reststops and talk to tired young male travelers."

FOX may or may not be breaking any laws, but there are more than enough studies that show that certain personalities are more susceptible to internalizing certain forms of speech.

Deregulation not only did away with the requirement for "balance" by media outlets, it also did away with government oversight of extreme language. This situation, coupled with the media's desire to generate ratings and damn the societal implications, is a dangerous brew.

should I wonder why we ignore the possibility of Giusti's welfare dependency and being a BART scofflaw had on his subsequent behavior?

After all, circling and colliding electrons are all connected. Everything is equal under a tin foil cap. I wonder if he is related to former Astro's pitcher Dave Giusti?

Mom is wise and knows her son. Don't argue with mom. I predict that there will be much more of this type of thing coming in the future, when people FINALLY start to wise up about Fox News. Heck, even some conservative politicians are starting to call Fox out.

BobD's picture

are just trying to distance themselves from Fox. After it was said that "we don't own Fox, they own us" the righties got nervous and are just trying to disassociate their names from Fox. Just like BillO is trying to sound rational (at times) so that he can get some archived footage of him not toeing the Fox mandates.

Shadowgm's picture

... it's perhaps understanding that if such a correlation were established/proven, let's say a nutcase like Giusti actually going the distance and successfully attacking Pelosi, Reid, Obama, etc. ... then the demand would be for draconian sanctions and immediate action.

FOX News hasn't figured out that it's always been bad policy to shit where you eat.

So now can we arrest Fox News for promoting violence ???
There is no bigger threat to the safety of our people or our Democracy then the Terrorism promoted and encouraged by the evil extremist Fox News.

Shadowgm's picture

Even though we can see a clear relationship, it does not meet the legal standard for evidence.

You'd essentially need proof in the form of Rupert Murdoch speaking to Roger Ailes, or Glenn Beck writing to Giusti wishing him luck with his mission.

Yes, the medias' desire to generate ratings and damn the social implications is a big problem.

Wouldn't we have to know more about him than we do now? Like had he sought help and been refused? Was he on medication that he had not been taking? Stuff like that.

somebody would have covered that. It would have run in Mental Health News.

I'm confused - isn't the point that unstable people will react to Faux news' false and misleading "reporting" in an unstable manner. The fact that this man had problems before is only relevant in that Faux's methods involve riling up people like Giusti.

Fox's defense would be that his mother also said he is mentally ill and they can't be held responsible for what his illness caused him to do.

That being said, their rants and ravings about the HCR sure didn't deter this sort of behavior.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

Fox'll start saying "oh we're radical, we are always at the ELF protests" They'll just say that they have never been associated with "radicals" like Wright and Ayers and then divert the attention away from them and onto Obama and others.

Their defense is that they're just entertainment: Aw, we were just foolin' witchya!

Vote GOP and move forward to the 18th Century.

When hack like Coburn finally recognize the harm Faux Noose has done to civil discourse about politics, there's hope. Not much, I fully expect he'll continue to use them when convenient to further his own means.

As to David762's remarks, he's right in saying there should be a DOJ investigation of the upper levels of Fox and NewsCorp. Is Murdoch actually an American citizen or was he naturalized? Can he be deported back to Australia (not that they'd want him)?

In any case, there is clearly a conspiracy at the top whicn also includes the collaboration of the Republican National Committee to incite criminal behaviour and definitely warrants an investigation. Who knows, perhaps it's already on-going?

I got really really angry this week when Beck did the show attacking Obama's family. Had I decided to harm someone as a result of seeing that show, would the harm have come from me or Beck? I don't care how angry or justified I might have felt after my actions, the decision to act was made by me, not Beck.

I don't know if any crime can be blamed on a tv show or a movie or the like, with success.

...Mark David Chapman came to mind while I watched this last night.

Republicans ARE practicing seditious DEMAGOGUERY and anti-democracy OBSTRUCTIONISM intended to destabilize our economy for purposes of political exploitation.

Republicans AREN'T making a sincere effort to STOP the bleeding THEIR incompetent leadership and failed policies created. Instead, they're using inflammatory lies and accusations as a smokescreen to conceal their subversive agenda, which is to cause President Obama and America to fail so they can blame Democrats for the consequences of THEIR calamitous mismanagement.

Republicans ARE preposterously professing that THEIR disgraceful political WHORING had nothing to do with the banking, real estate, stock market and employment catastrophes that resulted.

Republicans ARE trying to hamstring Democrats to prevent them from repairing the damage caused during a Republican presidency that was irresponsibly enabled by Republican Senators and Representatives.

Republicans ARE offering ridiculous arguments meant solely to disrupt and prevent progressive change. They'd rather divide America and create political gridlock than endure the political consequences of effective Democratic governance.

Republicans AREN'T the LOYAL OPPOSITION; they ARE the ENEMY WITHIN whose mercenary priorities have eroded their moral and ethical standards to the point that duplicity and betrayal have become their preferred modus operandi.

It's one thing to advocate their conservative beliefs; it's another thing entirely to willfully sabotage America's government because a successful Democratic presidency would not be vulnerable to the greed, fears and hatreds that have produced and sustained the radical Republican anti-government corporatism and anti-Christian faux theocracies that are poisoning and crippling American society.

Democracy is their enemy.

When can we say "I told you so"? Now even those connected with the nutcases who pick up their ideas from Faux News are saying that they got the idea from Faux News.

I don't mean to say that excuses the guy's actions, but if his mama says Fox gave him the idea, it supports the notion that whack-jobs can be incited to violence by the whack-jobs on Fox.

Watching Fox may not of and by itself rot one's brain, but if your brain is already heading that way, the likes of Hannity and Beck could surely push one over the edge.

I think it's the saturation that gets to them, the way those "Harry Chrishna" saturates people. We need no better proof that FOX Terror TV is becoming a full blown cult complete with a national TV network than FOX Terror TV programming. Imagine if the Chrishnas had their own TV network, and they wore the same blue suits, lapel pin and neck ties.

What if it was the Chrishnas or "Moses witnesses" that greeted POX viewers each day with coffee, baseball talk, and a full serving of political extremism?
