Marsha Blackburn Attacks Social Security
Marsha Blackburn apparently thinks it's a good idea for Republicans to be attacking Social Security. There's a whole lot of projection going on during this fear mongering rant. They weren't too worried about our children's future when they were passing those Bush tax cuts for the rich or approving of invading countries that weren't a threat to us. I don't expect the hypocrisy and unhinged rants from Blackburn to be ending any time soon. She's got the theatrics and feigned indignation down pat from lots of practice.
BLACKBURN: My colleagues are celebrating the birth of a great new entitlement program today. Only they see dependency on the Federal government and the death of freedom as a cause for celebration. My colleagues celebrate this day as being like the day when Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid were passed. They forget that today those programs are insolvent and will likely crush our children under their debt. My colleagues are overjoyed that soon their goal of having Americans dependent on the Federal government for mortgages, student loans, retirement and health care will be realized.
That is a chilling goal. My colleagues cheer that this bill is paid for. They ignore the fact that it is our children who will pay for their greed. My colleagues shame us for scaring the American people about the contents of this bill. We know the consequences of this bill will be frightening and horrible. Freedom dies a little bit today, unfortunately some are celebrating and I yield back.

I think the right wing will in the end destroy themselves- Strange how they like to target and discriminate against the most vulnerable members of society.
How long before they demand we get rid of taxpayer funded health care for veterans, and will insist vests need to 'pull themselves up by their bootstraps'?
Republican distain for Social Security ties in with their hatred of FDR and all of his policies- of course most right wingers have a shocking ignorance of history, their hatred of FDR is usually rooted in right wing ignorance.
(They blame FDR, and not Hoover for starting the Depression, they blame FDR, not Hitler, for starting WW2, etc)
These twits think that
trickletinkle down economics will solve everything. They just love pissing on everyone. You realize of course that's why the rest of us are called peons!
:)
When will government of the people, by the politicians, for the corporations perish from this Earth?
Not soon enough!
applaud it. Certainly the programs are insolvent, but as Heather rightly pointed out "They weren't too worried about our children's future when they were passing those Bush tax cuts for the rich or approving of invading countries that weren't a threat to us. "
Goodnight, Frau Blücher
Go away, children; you have nothing to say of any importance. You can be wrong only so many times before the grownups stop listening ...
Blackburn has the best medical insurance money can buy. WE pay for it. How dare she stand there and talk about debt when her party has us paying for 2 wars.

“The greatest evildoers are those who don’t remember because they have never given thought to the matter, and, without remembrance, nothing can hold them back,”
well said, sir!
Republicans of Rep. Blackburn's ilk ARE NOT the caliber of people who have the intelligence, awareness, vision, humility or capability to resurrect and or re-invent the Republican Party with a new and or more universally appealing, supportable or justifiable platform, image or ideology. In fact, they are nothing more than members of America’s lunatic fringe with very little appeal outside of their misanthropic niches/minority camps.
NONE of these people have sustainable broad appeal.
NONE of these people can unite disparate elements of an increasingly pernicious mob.
NONE of these people garner more respect than they incite derision.
NONE of these people offer anything more than the ignorance, hatred and bigotry inherited from a generational legacy of emotional and psychological abuse.
Today's Republican Party is a sad collection of morally and ethically damaged mutants, miscreants and kamikaze loyalists who are crashing and burning all things Republican.” .
down at you and applauding your truth-telling. This is NOT your father's Rethuglican Party.

but every time I hear that I think this isn't the democratic party of my youth either. Of course we're also not spawns of satan.
the point of throwing widows and orphans out on the street and telling them YOYO, like the Rethugs have. I like to think we still have SOME compassion left.

It's just something thats been getting under my skin. I remember when the party had some backbone.
because I don't think backbone has been involved since the 60s.

“The greatest evildoers are those who don’t remember because they have never given thought to the matter, and, without remembrance, nothing can hold them back,”
but the things that come out of her mouth - especially on her radio show when she is free to be as batshit crazy as she wants to be, and not on the McLaughlin Group where she has to keep her wingnuttery somewhat in check - make her quite repulsive.
This tends to say it all for me. Not that I took right wing rants all that seriously in the first place but how anyone could think that these people have any serious interest in any sort of fiscal responsibility boggles the mind. The right has done nothing but shovel money out of the back of the truck for their friends. I suppose when they feel that they personally won't benefit, then it becomes a problem?
trying to destroy and privatize Social Security since its inception?, as well as Medicare and Medicaid?
They should be right up there cheering with the rest of us if that is the case....these programs are finally going to be ruined and they should be really happy. Come on, guys, can't you see the positive there?
(snark)
“The greatest evildoers are those who don’t remember because they have never given thought to the matter, and, without remembrance, nothing can hold them back,”
Of course, Social Security isn't insolvent. It's stuffed full of IOU's from people like her that have borrowed from it year after year to pay for their tax cuts and wars.
As for tinkle down economics, we've tried it twice and both times had the same result. Most people's boats staying the same or sinking while a few made out like bandits along with a huge increase in the deficit.
More like trickle out economics. Trickle out to off shore tax havens.
Two wars, Medicare Prescription Plan-D, unaccounted for lost billions of dollars in Iraq, no-bid contracts for works that go over budget and over time, unregulated banking and investment markets have done to America what Osama Ben Laden could only dream of, and this was well before Obama took office.
Next time the government has a surplus of money don't claim it as evidence of people being overtaxed and give it away to to the wealthiest 5%, sock it away for a rainy day.

Freedom to a right-winger means more than 95% of the wealth concentrated among the top 1%. When Blackburn talks about freedom she doesn't tell you it is only for that top 1% who are free of regulations that could hamper them from pillaging the other 99%
Exactly ! It's too bad the dumb asses in this country , Repug supporters , don't have brains enough to figure it out .
"The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all."
Oh, please. And the same "top 1%" pay 40% of all federal taxes, too. As part of the other 99%, are you saying the 1% should OWN less than they do? Are you also saying they should PAY less tax than they do? Look, most rich are rich because they did things others couldn't be bothered to do, like work their butts off and take risks. Life is not a zero sum game: if one person becomes richer, that DOESN'T mean someone else became poorer. There's plenty of pie for anyone to get all they want, But liberals want to carve up the existing pie and redistribute it according to their own sense of "fairness" and "justice." Problem is, nature isn't like that. You can't redistribute talent, good looks, intelligence, or ability. Would you like to suggest the NBA quit offering spots on national teams to just the .01% or less who can play b-ball so well? Maybe teams should more evenly draft players from a wider variety of non-talented AND talented players instead of advancing such racist and "talentist" policies. That would help "concentrate" talent more equitably, don't you think?
"Look, most rich are rich because they did things others couldn't be bothered to do, like work their butts off and take risks."
Most rich are rich because they are very good at lying, cheating and stealing. The dirty little secret we don't tell our children is that being smart, working hard, and being lucky aren't nearly enough to get rich. You've got to be a real bastard, too.
Freedom = allowing corporations to do whatever they want, unrestricted by laws or regulations of any kind.
Tyranny = any attempt to restrict the activities of corporations.
The next time you hear a wingnut call for "freedom" or decry the approaching "tyranny", remember what these words mean to them.
Republican "economics" work on the idiot Americans because these mouth-drooling redneck morons don't understand that there are 2 sides to the balance sheet. To these imbeciles only spending is a problem. Anything that reduces the income of the Federal govt is not a problem, but rather a good thing in their eyes. They're just too damn stupid to understand that they (we) are still responsible to pay our collective bills whether they like it or not.
The best way to make these idiots grasp the real problem is to ask them when you'll be getting your refund on the money spent on the Iraq war that you never wanted. If it's not my war, why should I have to pay for it?
That one always befuddles their tiny brains.
stone wall with that last suggestion. Most of them rednecks don't think the war in Iraq was a bad thing...'cause we gotta get rid of all them terrorists--you know, "fight 'em over there so we don't have to fight 'em over here"?
“The greatest evildoers are those who don’t remember because they have never given thought to the matter, and, without remembrance, nothing can hold them back,”
There are SO many people who need health care, housing, child care, better schools, faster computers, newer iPods, more steak and less soup, a Rolex instead of a Timex...did I leave anything out? And THE RICH have all those things because they're lucky or hard working or were born to it or...so let's just have them pay for all those things for all of us and everyone will be happier. In fact, a really good world would be one where everyone who has income gives 100% of it to the government, who then decides behind closed doors--without anyone trying to get in to see them and lobby for special interests (you know, that probably wouldn't happen anyhow, but just in case you'd probably want to say it)--who gets how much of it each day or month or year. That way, since it would be "fair" and "just" (because they were voted in by people who believed in them) and they wouldn't ever discriminate, we could all go to bed happy that our benevolent federal Mommas were on the job and deciding how to spend our collective funds so that it was all equitable and equal. Oh, I'm looking forward to that day. Yes, sir. And we're just about there. What a grand day that will be. Equal. Say it with me: "EQUAL." Yep, equally poor.
because the Rethuglicans have been screwing the middle class out of all their money FOR THE LAST 30 YEARS. Thank you, Ronnie Raygun for pointing the country in the right direction (not).
“The greatest evildoers are those who don’t remember because they have never given thought to the matter, and, without remembrance, nothing can hold them back,”
Please spell it out because you seem to think allocation of funds that would best benefit the whole rubs you the wrong way.
And yet no mention of wars we were lied into so Cheney, Bush and their friends could make untold millions (perhaps billions) of dollars. No mention of cutting taxes for the rich so the rest of us have to starve. No mention of the lives that have been lost or continue to be.
Explain to me the reason I should have to pay a certain percentage of my earnings and wealth in taxes and the rich (percentage wise) have to pay exceedingly less.
What is your point exactly?
taping my fingers on my desk, hmmm hmmmmm waiting waiting.
Can't justify your selfishness huh?
they got nothin'. Mostly because it's just that.....bullsh*t.
“The greatest evildoers are those who don’t remember because they have never given thought to the matter, and, without remembrance, nothing can hold them back,”
What's the point? If you can't defend what you've said then there's no point in posting it. It shows your point of view is invalid - so why even bother?

“The greatest evildoers are those who don’t remember because they have never given thought to the matter, and, without remembrance, nothing can hold them back,”
I love how you've lumped together the necessary (at least in the eyes of the civilized world)--medical care etc, with the things no one's asked for, like faster computers and iPods. Then again, perhaps being able to make out that decent healthcare, something the civilized world takes for granted, is some sort of luxury, you can stretch far enough to believe that guff.
and extreme.
Typical 'bagger mentality.
Hey Marsha , blow it out your ass you inbred piggy .It appears the health care bill is passing . LOL .

an ass! Good God. Oh, I actually have O'Reilly on - just to see his head explode.
"They ignore the fact that it is our children who will pay for their greed."
Funny how you didn't have the same concern when your joke of a party ran up the trillion and a half dollar tab for a senseless war---that our children really did pay for---with their lives. So why don't you take your own advice? I know you won't because you are an unprincipled dupe that belongs to a party of thieves.
Screw you and your scumbag party, you shriveled hag.

So today I lost my freedom, who knew?
I'm pretty sure I lost more freedom from the Wingers ramming threw their authoritarian wet dreams like the Patriot Act et al under the guise of 9/11. Until you walk those back I'm not much concerned what you think about my freedom.
I don't know whether to call Blackburn a shrew or harpy...guess I'll just call her a typical Republican.

I imagine she and her Fascist colleagues are freaked out and coming unglued ,I mean God forbid something is done for the "bottom" 95 % , that they have any rights at all ? Some people make you want to just walk up to them and knock them out , you know it ? How on earth is it possible that people can be so GD stupid as to be supporters of these pigs ? It's beyond comprehension .
"The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all."
Krugman warned about this in 2001. GW Bush had a Social Security Commission, that had, as an agenda, privatizing SS.
Under Reagan, Social Security started taking in more than it spent. It then "loaned" the excess to the Federal government, holding Federal securities in return. The commission looked at these securities as follows: "They do not consist of real economic assets that can be drawn down in the future to fund benefits. Instead, they are claims on the Treasury that, when redeemed, will have to be financed by raising taxes, borrowing from the public, or reducing benefits or other expenditures."
They had no intention of paying to Social Security the bonds that SS holds. But, there was a problem, namely, the budget surpluses.
"OMB (2000) projects that the federal budget will show a surplus until 2075 if discretionary expenditures grow with inflation, and until 2040 if discretionary spending grows with GDP". If we had surpluses, then, the money owed Social Security could be paid back.
So, in order to "starve the beast", they ran up the deficits and destroyed the surpluses, while Cheney was stating that deficits don't matter. They fired a real fiscal conservative, Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill who correctly saw the tax cuts as irresponsible. Now, as we just heard in the clip, we have a problem. What we didn't hear out of Blackburn is that the Republicans intentionally and purposely created this problem.
It's time to jettison the Bush tax cuts that created the problem.
This points out a glaring difference between the Democrats and Republicans approach to government.
"starve the beast", that's right , Bush and the Repugs running up the deficit like madmen , borrowing and spending like drunken sailors ,the invasion of Iraq etc etc and do you think this economic collapse and subsequent bail out putting us in deep shit was just an accident and not foreseen ? The fat cats came out just fine , another massive transfer of wealth / money to the upper 5% . The radical right ( the Repugs ) will go to any length , any length , to get rid of all social programs , period .
"The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all."

Blackburn look pretty damned haggard. She must've been pullin some all nighters. You know, tryin to figure out a strategy...to get the Dems to back off?
She can't seriously think that people have forgotten what the GOp did to this country. Not this soon.
They just keep diggin a deeper hole.
I'm ok with that. Keep diggin.
I heard on the news, that around 9 million people pledged to volunteer for people (Dems) who vote in favor of this bill.
Just another nail in their coffin. The next election is lookin better already.
But there is still alot of work to be done.
What is your conceptual, continuity?
"people have forgotten" , it wasn't the Repugs Mudshark , it was Clinton , Barney Frank and the Dems , just ask any Repug supporter .

And boosh's debts/deficits are Clinton's too. How could I be so stupid?

Of Aniston.
She's a very attractive woman.
She used to go to Cabo and the surrounding areas alot.
She is very attractive. Never got to meet her.
But I did get to meet her ex. That was when they made that movie down there about the Tojan Horse.
My wife and I ended up sitting at a table next to some producers or some such crap. And her ex stopped by. Nice enough guy. Eh!
I like her more.
What is your conceptual, continuity?
People in Tennessee have no idea what fair and open elections are anymore.
Republicans are liars and simply cannot be trusted.
People in Tennessee have no idea , period .
"The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all."
The right-wing followers don't realize that the really big government dollars are going to the large corporations. Repubs talk about tax cuts, and the average persons gets a few hundred extra dollars a year, but the get all those privatized billions. Look for example at Blackwater(now Xe) in the wars. They are reaping billions. And there are many other corporations cleaning up in the wars, and we shouldn't even be in Iraq.
so that the rich will have the freedom to prey on us the poor and middle class. They will be able to control us because if we don't obey them we and our families will starve to death. The rich would like the entitlement programs because they believe these programs give the little people backbone and they would prefer that we were scared shitless of them and their wealth and power.
is what the 'baggeretards worry that the government wants to do to us.
It's far more likely that the corporations would like us to be so desperate that we'd be willing to work for what we did before unions and labor laws came into play.
They'd blame it all on trying to compete with labor costs in other countrys but you'd know it's bullshit if people at the top were making unGodly money and that wasn't even negotiable.
Well, I'll be happy to not be carrying one more hypocrite on the public roles. Her right wingnut welfare will take care of her.
If she really gives a shit about these things, where was she when congress voted in tax cuts for the rich? That's right, silent, which means she's lying.
F*ck that b*tch!
The freedom to die because you don't have health insurance? The freedom to go bankrupt? The freedom to be gouged by the private for-profit health insurance industry???
As I mention upthread, when wingnuts screech about the "loss of freedom" and the "rise of tyranny", their reference point is not the American people (when did republicans ever care about THEM) but rather the corporations comprising Big Business.
The "freedom" that is "lost" is the freedom of corporations to rape the public repeatedly with no consequences. The "tyranny" that is "on the rise" is the attempt to bring corporations under control for the benefit of the American people.
It's surprising that the republicans have done as well as they have considering that their economic policies are detrimental to 99% of the public.
When ever you see somebody talking about why we cannot do something, remember one thing. Money is created out of thin air. It is an illusion. The question we should be asking, "Is do we have the resources?" And yes, we do. You should check out the Zeitgeist Movement.
I have no doubt the woman, like all the other repuglicans live in nice, posh gated communities and are sensing the beginning of the end for the unaccountable wealthy in America. Boo frickin hoo.
how many entitlements are too many in your view? The country cannot pay for the handouts it currently gives to people. Where do we get the money to balance the budget?
poor dearie. Fixing the health care mess that we have been living in horror with is just proving to be too much for her delicate constitution. Maybe she will have a big ole heart attack or a big ole stroke if she keeps her blood pressure up like that. Wouldn't that be a shame if she couldn't talk no more because she had a stroke?
Real smart Marsha. I'm just south of Nashville and have to endure hearing this twit profess her hypocritical envangelical pull yourself by your own bootstraps republican party line bullshit for years. She's a nut; through and through.
Marsha nailed it on this. The country is going broke and democrats don't seem to notice. Upstate NY is economically decimated by the policies of the democrats like Slaughter. The tax hikes on top earners that are used to pay for this bill should have been used to reduce the extreme deficit the government is running.
This bill will not help the economy. It will harm it because of the higher taxes.
When did Sally Field become such a beeyotch?
