Lou Dobbs Distorts Alan Grayson's Apology
Lou Dobbs apparently thinks his viewers don't even watch any other shows on his own network.
DOBBS: More evidence that Americans are increasingly skeptical of government-run health care -- according to a new Gallup poll, 89 percent of Republicans say health insurance should be the individual's responsibility. Sixty-four percent of independents agree that obtaining health care insurance coverage should be up to the individual. Overall, 61 percent of all Americans believe that health care insurance is the responsibility of the individual, not the government. However, Democrats disagree, 63 percent of whom say it's the government's responsibility to provide health care insurance.
Democrats were calling for Congressman Joe Wilson's head not so long ago when he yelled, "you lie", at President Obama during a joint session of Congress. The outburst was considered to be an example of how the antigovernment health care forces had crossed the line. But the left has been largely silent about Congressman Alan Grayson, the Democrat from Florida took the House floor last night and claimed the Republican health care plan is for people to die quickly. Listen to this.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
GRAYSON: If you get sick, America, the Republican health care plan is this. Die quickly. That's right. The Republicans want you to die quickly if you get sick.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
DOBBS: Congressman Grayson did issue an apology for his comments today after several Republicans asked him to.
Still auditioning for Fox Lou? That's not exactly a fair description of Grayson's "apology".

Just like the rest of Fox.
replace Dobbs with Rick Sanchez....He will have a more secure position and support at Faux,,,
Shameless and his dye job is getting worse!
Well, that kind of ugliness comes out through the skin eventually.

"Government by organized money is just as dangerous as Government by organized mob"

I was very disappointed with Grayson -- not by his point but by how he did it.
With his shrill statement he lowered the level of discourse on a very important issue - healthcare.
All Grayson did was pull us down into the gutter with our opponents. Outage can be accomplished far more effectively, with far more dignity. Here's how:
This is what Rep. Grayson actually said:
Grayson revised:
The revised answer accomplishes two things his actual statement did not: 1) It is far more ciivil; and 2) puts the GOP on the horns of a dilemma -- they have to explain away why their non-action will not cause the uninsured to possibly die from injury or illness.
It's been working so well for us.
The Republicans take civility as a sign of weakness. Obama's repeated attempts at bipartisanship have been met with obstructionism and derision.
The GOP has stated as a matter of fact that they want to "break" Obama rather than work to better the condition of working people.
Grayson did the right thing by apologizing to the people killed by the insurance corporations and their families.
would nave been ignored. Grayson's comments were not.
And that's why a lot of Americans don't even give the liberal message a listen. In short, it's why we lose.
Being nice is what causes the republicans to ignore the Democrats. Where have you been for the last 30 years? One thing that Grayson accomplished. The constiuents are now listening.
The Country clearly told you and your bullshit party to eat shit.
I am a Democrat all my adult life and remember what happened to my party in 1966 and 1968 -- after the landslide of 1964.
are getting so much attention for their hysterical claims is that they're being so polite and respectful in their delivery?
You realize that your opinion is insane, yes?
Listen carefully to what I am saying:
A) One can be fiercely liberal without resorting to dumb theatrics. It worked for Harry Truman, RFK and other past liberals -- you know a time when liberals regularly won elections;
B) One reason the other side seem to be getting the attention is because the media like the spectacle of mud being thrown. This fits the fringe right quite well because it gets their folks all riled but does nothing for our side. Instead, it turns off a lot of undecided, independent Americans who are repelled by gutter tactics. It is among those folks where the battle will be won or lost. But when we act like Joe Wilson it doesn't appeal to them but turns them off to politics, seeing both sides as unruly children; and
C) I don't want to see the public discourse keep getting lower and lower into the gutter. It is not too much to ask our leaders to argue extremely important national issues like adults instead of like a bunch of juvenile Howard Stern listeners.
ho hum
Sorry, that ranks up there with a "strongly worded letter."
What he said was perfect. It's about time Dems showed they weren't going to be kicked around by the repigs.
I just wish all of them would speak to repigs this way.
All he did was make liberal-wanna-bes feel morally superior about themselves and gave them an excuse to thump their chests. It was nothing more than a dopey feel-good moment.
Do you really think he changed a single mind either on the other side or -- more importantly -- among undecided folks in the middle? I bet he hardly moved the ball at all. And while we're at it, how does it feel to now be on the same discourse level as the folks screaming "socialist" at those town hall meetings?
You make a valid point, but let's not discount the months of aggravation Liberals have had to endure watching people like Harry Reid pretend to lead. It's been a truly embarrassing display.I submit that Grayson's actions are just the shot in the arm the Dem base needs right now to feel like all is not completely lost after weeks of yellow bellied capitulation to an intransigent and dishonest Republican opposition.
"To me, truth is not some vague, foggy notion. Truth is real. And,
at the same time, unreal. Fiction and fact and everything in between,
plus some things I can't remember, all rolled into one big "thing."
This is truth, to me. "
-Jack Handy
If there's anything that disgusted me about the Grayson business, it's the way the media has gone after him for his comments. Where was this hostility when Palin & Co. were disseminating their "death panels" canard? That ran for weeks with barely a murmur of protest before some outlets began to mention that, actually, it wasn't true. And now Grayson gets pilloried for coming up with a similar slogan? It's even more reprehensible when one considers that the Repub statement was an outright lie, whereas Grayson's statement is at least logically defensible.

when it has been proven time and time again that the Republican Party would rather wallow in lies and obstruction?
Expecting a different result from repetitions of the same ineffective strategy is not smart.
Grayson's comments did not make me "feel superior." But thanks for the instant psychoanalysis just the same.
Grayson's remarks made me feel as though somebody recognized the situation for what it really is and is fighting for MY best interests.
I am SICK of mealy-mouth Democrats cowering in the face of these often-vicious Republicans.
Stick with that political correct notion and see how far you get with your opponents.
You can't always agree to disagree... when your looking at the facts and you rely on your heart instead of your head, you'll often discount those facts.
To each their own, you seem complacent to me.
Amended: "morally superior" is a nice clue.
Study the symptoms not the virus...

I grew up in a political family, Democratic, at a time when the Democrats were on top, not only by the numbers, but in thought, word and deed. And 'playing nice and polite' was not part of their gig. If it was stupid, it was ridiculed. And not at all privately or kindly.
This 'can't we all get along' bullshit has got to stop. The answer is a resounding NO!
I am reminded of a Star Trek epi (Mirror, Mirror) wherein Kirk was flipped into a more brutal alternate universe. When back in his own universe, Kirk notes it was easier for him to pretend to be a savage, than it was for a savage to pretend to be civilised. We can be 'liberal' 'left' or 'progressive,' while being rude to those who will have it all over us otherwise. The whole polite thing has just gotten us ridiculed and kicked in the teeth.

Republicans can only understand short, emotionally-driven statements since they are so emotionally immature. So your long, nuanced statement would have been completely ignored.
Grayson basically used the same schoolyard tactics that the Republicans use all the time, so of course he got their attention.
Finally someone on the Democratic side figured out how to fight the Republicans!
this form of combat, but I expect you have heard the phrase, "Fight fire with fire." Grayson's statement got more attention than almost anything else the Dems have said since forever. It worked. If you don't want to be in this street fight, then stay home. This is a voluntary force.
version: "I now pose this question..." Finally, someone in DC figured out how to respond to those who know no boundaries, and had enough stuff to use it.
these fucking SCUMBAGS are using the Lee Atwater/Frank Luntz playbook which asserts that emotional loading and framing trumps facts and logic. If you think we should follow Marquis Of Queensbury gentlemans boxing rules while the OtherSide regards this as a gang-brawl with crowbars, baseball bats and zip-guns you're NUTS. I am NOT FUCKING INTERESTED IN BEING NICE! These people are NAZIS (Godwin Bedamnned!) with a Goebbels Big Lie propaganda machine, and they tortured, murdered, invaded, wire-tapped, stole billions, (endless repeating sequence) and the very foundation of our country is at stake. To F.I. Cocozelli:
Mr. Grayson used six words.
You used seventy words.
By the time you get to your point, you've lost your audience. Republicans and the average Joe Six-Pack have minuscule attention spans and need short, simple sentences with little in the way of metaphor. It's only liberals like us, people who still value reason and intellect over gut, who can appreciate and be persuaded by your version of Grayson's argument.
What Grayson said may have been indelicate... but it was basically true. The party of 'no' has been called out again. Dobbs is a joke. I'll steer clear of CNN until Dobbs is dumped... and likely off to Fox where he will fit right in.
Dobbs keeps me away from CNN too.

What Grayson did in no way even came close to what Joe Wilson did. You cannot make such a comparison! After all the GOP propaganda talk of "death panels" and "they'll kill your grandmother," (among other things), they have the audacity to ask Grayson to apologize? Nope. At least Grayson is supporting healthcare for citizens, unlike Wilson and his ilk, who only want to make a profit for the insurance companies, which in turn will contribute to their campaigns.
Does God tell Dobbs to lie like that?

What a sad pathetic man. Dobbs doesn't realize how irrelevant he is has become over the last 4-5 years in terms journalistic clout.
Grayson said it right. And, he said it to perpetual LIARS. All that Grayson needs now is to repeat it, over and over and over and over because it is real. He needs our support. Bumper stickers, tee-shirts, posters, banners. Over and over and over and over again and again. "I'm sorry the republicans left you dead"....it works.
Get to the point! Quit being so "touchy feeley" about it. Don't rebuild his clock....just tell the time....and the time is right-on!
I hope that Grayson's use of the awful truth spreads and multiplies.

on the House floor, of course. never mind Rep Grayson apologized to the dead, its still one more apology than Wilson didn't do on the House floor. and Grayson was right with what he said, and how he said it. with the right amount of feeling. and as he defended it on the Situation Room on CNN last nite. the GOP are only hoping to gain the House back by being anti-Obama 24/7. thats it. they want to achieve that with doing no work at all. just cynicism and negativity.
