Morning Joe Oct. 22, 2009- Joe Scarborough and Lawrence O'Donnell get into it over Cheney's remarks that President Obama is "dithering" in Afghanistan and on the WMD argument for invading Iraq.

Joe Scarborough defends Cheney's remarks and is still carrying water for the Bush administration on the WMD lies. Lawrence O'Donnell calls him out for it and Scarborough resorts to personal attacks and calls O'Donnell "crazy" and says that he has "a back pile of appliances" that he's "trying to sell in the five boroughs". It got pretty heated before the segment finally ended with Scarborough getting one last dig in on O'Donnell at the very end telling him to "go sell" his "appliances".

Scarborough was out in California where it was about 4:30 in the morning. Anyone else think he stayed up too late the night before this airing?

O'Donnell. I cannot stand this smug smarmy asshole Scarborough.I appreciate that GE at least tries to actually be fair and balanced, but I cannot watch his show.

He has a show on MSNBC, which is majority owned by GE. Sounds like more right wing projection to me.

Medford, Mass.: Exactly how is it that our sitting Vice President can get away with saying basically that people who exercised their constitutional right to vote for change (ie: Conn. primary) are helping terrorists? How is this not the headline of a story, instead of a footnote?

This morning, I caught him defending Cheney when Mika actually stood up to him and said he should do an interview, when Joke said he has and she asked where, he said Fox. She rolled her eyes and said "well then". He got all over her saying "What Fox isn't a real news channel?". She ignored him at that point. This guy is a disrespectful punk to anyone who disagrees with him. Bet he still hasn't gotten over the smackdown Rachel Maddow laid on him last year. Why O'Donnell keeps showing up to humor him is beyond me.

I'm glad Lawrence shows up. He's a much stronger advocate for our positions than you would see on that show otherwise. Joe's corny one are pretty useless against Lawrence.

Considering the Cheney Bush administration completely ignored Afghanistan for the last 5 years I don't see how Dick's opinion is worth taking note of.

FilthyHarry's picture

Scarborough's assertion that all senior dems believed that saddam had WMD's somehow absolves the Cheney administration from all the horrible decisions made based on that mistaken assumption.

Joe also avoided acknowledging that the senior Democrats were led to believe in the Iraqi WMD threat because of Intel fed to them by the Bush admin.Scar also mentions the NY Times articles as further "proof" of his theory as if the Times(and every other "Liberal" publication) didn't actually cheer on the war effort from start to finish.Yeah that's quite a convincing argument Joey

Wasn't there a story about this? Scarborough has NOTHING.

jcricket's picture

to mention that the articles in the NY Times were being written by Judith Miller, who was being given her information directly from Scooter Libby, Cheney's Chief of Staff.

So, in Joe's brain, it is perfectly understandable that Cheney held the belief that Iraq had WMD's because the NYT said so -- even though it was Cheney himself that was feeding the NYT via his Chief of Staff.

Slime. All of them.

Phillip1's picture

Funny when Republicans cannot win an argument on facts they always get personal. It is also funny that Scarborough accuses O'Donnell of getting personal on Cheney (which he was not) when he himself was getting very personal on O'Donnell just a few second earlier... always a hypocrite these Republicans...

What with all the spying, lying, torture and treason. There was no time left to "DITHER" on Afghanistan. This is why BushCo left it to the Generals on the ground.

Here's the bottom line Joe, none of those folks you mentioned started the war. Your guy Dick and George did and they own it. It was their lies, their decision, their war and 5,000 and countless civilians are dead because of it but hey, Dick Cheney's Halliburton stock went through the roof so the cherry picking was all worth if for some.

Retired General calls Cheney ‘incompetent war fighter’
By Kathleen Miller
Friday, October 23rd, 2009

http://rawstory.com/2009/10/general-calls-che...

A retired General who served more than 30 years in the U.S. Army and helped train Iraq's military between 2003 and 2004 called former Vice President Dick Cheney an "incompetent war fighter."

National Security Network Senior Adviser and Retired General Paul Eaton made the comments after Cheney criticized Obama in a Wednesday night speech for "dithering" about whether to substantially increase the number of U.S. troops in Afghanistan. Obama has been under pressure from his top commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, to add as many as 40,000 to 60,000 U.S. troops on the ground.

"The record is clear: Dick Cheney and the Bush administration were incompetent war fighters," Eaton said in a statement released Thursday. "They ignored Afghanistan for 7 years with a crude approach to counter-insurgency warfare best illustrated by: 1. Deny it. 2. Ignore it. 3. Bomb it. While our intelligence agencies called the region the greatest threat to America, the Bush White House under-resourced our military efforts, shifted attention to Iraq, and failed to bring to justice the masterminds of September 11."
(continued)

Starve the WAR Beast...
... Save the World.

Cheney is a lying piece of shit. Do you remember when Cheney said going into Iraq would be a quagmire? And do not forget that it was Cheney who took his eye off the ball in Afghanistan when he DID go into Iraq for no good reason. When he took his eye off the ball the Taliban got stronger and then Cheney/Bush left the nightmare for Obama to clean up. Now Cheney has the nerve to tell Obama what to do? The hubris is unbelievable.
And to hell with Joe Scarborough.

It's funny you mention the word "quagmire" because after hearing Cheney's under handed "speech" the other day the first thing that sprang to mind was Family Guy's Quagmire going "Aren't I just the worst?" which would sound just dandy coming out of Dick's lying yap.

The sell appliances dig is pretty weak. Not in the least bit witty. If that's the best he can do, he might as well give up. Or better yet, stop carrying water for the epic fail that was the bush/cheney administration.

Doesn't Dick's speech prove what Seymor Hersh is claiming that the pentagon hates Obama and they are out to make Obama look like a fool and fail? I hope someone starts connecting all the dots.

do we do about it all? Bitch? This may be an example of too little, too late. This started with Nixon, and was firmly cemented in place by Bush Co. They're laughing at us. Talk is cheap, and they think that's all we have. Are they right about this? Stop giving money to corporations. Stop using credit cards. Pay cash or barter. The higher unemployment gets, the less tax money is available. Stop buying anything from China. Don't put your money in banks. All the want from us is money and complicity. Don't give it to them. In NY, there used to be an electronics store called "Crazy Eddie". I believe when Moran Joe refers to Lawrence as Crazy Larry, it's a reference to Crazy Eddie.

Rascalcat's picture

Kind of an obscure reference if you do not live in NY, but consider the source.

LOL wow, I wonder if Joe really thinks that is some type of 'gotcha' attack... I'm sure 99.99% of the people that would see this will have no idea WTF he's even talking about.

I really don't understand that either. Is O'Donnell supposed to be untrustworthy because he can't "sell appliances"? What the fuck does that even mean, and what does it have to do with anything at all?

.... for never criticizing the Bush Administration. (Testicles in the closet for 8 years or something like that)

And something Larry missed. The head of the CIA was just giving his bosses the info that he knew they wanted.

And did he not get a Presidential Medal of Honor for that?

Also, I just read that Caribou Barbie is supporting a candidate that is not a Republican, he is a Conservative. WTF, I did not even know there was a Conservative party that was not the GOP.
Will this be the new party for the bitter-baggers?

LOL at Caribou Barbie. The cons are cannibalizing themselves with the third party candidate in that race. The conservative party candidate is only helping the Democratic candidate.

I think Cheney and Rummy and Tenet were so sure of finding the smoking gun because the plan was to plant the evidence. Pure speculation, but what if the operation to plant the WMD was tripped up in a sandstorm, friendly-fired during the chaos of the initial invasion. An alleged letter from a serviceman on a secret hauling mission that I read years ago is what planted the seed of this belief. The letter could be bullshit. What if the lynchpin of the war's justification was fumbled, foiled by fate? Circumstance can trump arrogance. The best laid plans of the worst intention sometimes go awry.

surgethis's picture

The people know Dick Cheney orchestrated the war based on lies. How sick are you of these right wing liars and how bad do you want to punch Joe Scarborough in the nose? This is the same bull crap lies and insanity we had to stomach for 8 years from these co-criminal talk show morons that continue to defend war crimes ... Scarborough is so angry and pathetic he could not stop talking over the guy ... and then the name calling .... Scarborough is a coward ...

NotFooledTX's picture

He even resorted to using that age old tactic employed by 12 year olds everywhere - his utterance of "whatever..." His tactics are typically pretty junior high schoolish. His show isn't half bad when he's not on it.

Defending the indefensible always leaves you with egg on your face and mouths full of vomit for the viewers.

surgethis's picture

Really ? Scarborough? Really?

Who is the crazy one and who is the one desperately selling their old inventory of lies and distortions shouting over the competition like an a appliance salesman from the five boroughs.

Clearly Scarborough's distress is evident that his proclamations are being challenged ... What stands out is his need to appear shameless and justified by attempting to shame O'Donnell who holds his ground calmly and rationally.

Having run around naked lusting after power and abusing and killing all rational dissent as crazy and dangerous Scarborough must repeat the same lies and distortions he whole heartedly signed onto while it was acceptable to do so. With this exchange Scarborough exposes himself for the shameless distortions he has been all along and proves he need therapy to overcome his deep seated feelings of shame and abuse he likely suffered in childhood..
