No, Huckabee didn't actually say that, but he may as well have. Mike Huckabee is so concerned with the fact that most American children don't know enough about their country's history that he's ready to step in there and do what he can go fill that gap, by making it worse of course.
This isn't a new story but it's disgusting to see Van Susteren giving him another plug for this garbage on her show last night.
Mike Huckabee Fixes American History:
Don't worry, American youth: Mike Huckabee has fixed American history. No longer will you suffer under what Huckabee calls "the 'blame America first' attitude prevalent in today's teaching."
Late Wednesday, Huckabee announced LearnOurHistory.com, a sort of BMG Music Club for what he calls "unbiased" historical lessons for kids. For around $15 each, the company will send you a new animated tale of American history each month, told through the eyes of a gang of time traveling kids.
The first video (available for just $9.95, with a gift bag full of goodies)? "The Reagan Revolution." Naturally.
In this 90-second preview of the video, one sees a tale of an America in 1970s decay, where unemployed muggers in "DISCO" tanktops threatened anyone they could find with knives.
Then came a man that could restore hope to the land: Ronald Reagan. Read on...
It wasn't long ago that Huckabee was also promoting David Barton's dangerous revisionist history at the “Rediscover God In America” conference I posted on here -- Huckabee Says He Wants Americans To Be Indoctrinated At Gunpoint by David Barton. I guess someone's got to make up for Beck eventually leaving the air at Fox.
Transcript below the fold.
VAN SUSTEREN: All right, well, let me just turn quickly you have a learn our history. It's a program you have. What is that?
HUCKABEE: Greta, you know, if you tell an 8-year-old, Hey, I'd like to teach about American history, they'll probably say to you, Why don't you just set my hair on fire? But if you tell an 8-year-old, Hey, would you like to watch some cartoons, they'll say, Oh, yeah.
If the cartoons teach them that America is a good country and teaches them some wonderful things about America's history, that's Learn Our History is all about. It's really a program for kids ages 7 and up to teach them American history in a language and in a format that makes sense to kids.
Now, the thing that I find interesting, 91 percent of liberals who were shown the videos said they not only learned something, they would buy them for their kids. What I find interesting is that we've got a real serious history deficit in the country. Do you realize that only 25 percent of high school seniors in America surveyed even know that George Washington was the first president? That's amazing to me that kids are that ignorant of their history of this great country.
So Learn Our History is about helping them to learn it beyond the classroom in an entertaining and fun way. And I hope that people will take a look at the videos for their kids at Learnourhistory.com.
VAN SUSTEREN: Yeah and it's probably great for adults, too. I probably could use some refresher myself. Thank you, Governor.
HUCKABEE: Thank you, Greta.

1. Why is Mike Huckabee suddenly worried about the standardized test scores of Social Studies students in Arkansas when he didn't seem too concerned while in office as Governor?
A) He's pushing some sort of agenda to young people through the cartoons he's hawking, which look neither entertaining nor enticing....B) He's getting kickbacks from a company that sells educational supplements....C) He's getting kickbacks from a start-up that wants to make big money off of privitized education......or D) All of the above.

1. Why is Mike Huckabee suddenly worried about the standardized test scores of Social Studies students in Arkansas when he didn't seem too concerned while in office as Governor? Bwaaahaaahaaaa! Seriously, one the best comebacks I've ever read.
Hucksterbee is a real poison pill. "Cat Scratch Fever" man is about as religious as he has to be to make a buck. His son tortured dogs. He must have been quite the 'father'.
His latest 'for profit' propaganda is just the latest in a long line of hucksterism. He has graduated to full out cultism. Seems like a nice guy though - makes it all the worse, and more dangerous.

Maybe our kids wouldn't be so dumb if the RIGHT WING ASSHOLES didn't keep trying to defund and destroy our public school system and Dept. of Education.

I had the horrible experience while waiting in line at the Post Office when I noticed that they had Ronald Reagan, forever stamps.

A Ronald Reagan "forever" stamp seems quite appropriate.
Twenty years from now, the money you spent on the stamp won't be enough to cover the cost of mailing the letter, yet future generations will be stuck with both the bill and the responsibility anyway.
Seems appropriate.

Yeah sure, if you don't like the way history played out, just rewrite it to your liking. Idiot!
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
I'm sure the kids will love this stuff. They all enjoy paying $15 a month for a book club type thing.
Now that Ronny Raygun is a super hero maybe the kids will understand that Obama really is the arch villain.

Any kids who have been exposed to commercial pay/p2p to watch animation is going to pee their pants at the quality of these. But of course these animations are targeted at the home schooled children who are strictly censored and rationed in their exposure to modern life.
The kids who are susceptible to brainwashing will toe the family/party/church line no matter what you give them to watch, rebel kids and anybody with a brain will question all sources.
What most educators, brainwashers and PR droids do not realize is that IF you provide one wrong or contradicting factoid (that can be checked or cross referenced from another source), and the whole edifice comes tumbling down.
Nazi Germany is a touchy subject to put in front of modern western kids, too many visible parallels with modern western governments and their love for the 'power of the state', wars of conquest, and citizen obedience to the state. Bad and immoral propaganda can backfire very easily.
This is what happens when you try to have a cartoon made ON THE CHEAP. I've seen better animation on the bible channel. Seriously, whoever animated these things, I would LOVE to have the chance to laugh in their face. I am an Illustrator and Graphic Designer, and I have to say these things are bad...like they got a bunch of children to draw it.
Good luck, Suckabee.
Brings to mind the ol' bible thumper Jeebus cartoons. They drew all of the Jews as big-nosed ugly people, yet Jeebus is a petite-nosed handsome guy -- completely ignoring the history that he *was* Jewish (if you buy into the whole Jeebus story to begin with).
At least Jeebus spoke English and read his Bible everyday.
spoke Elizabethan English, at that, just like Shakespeare.
.
Christianity. What a damnable disgrace.
Theres always a large percentage of the population with serious deficiencies in critical thinking.
Hey Huckabee, you might want to send one to Michelle Bachman, every time she opens her mouth she displays her ignorance of American history. For that matter send it to all the teabaggers.
Right.

When you got Huckabee's fuckin cartoon. See everybody, no worries, the cons got a plan. Huck'll save the fuckin day =(
I suppose next he'll want to put giant posters of Reagan every 50 feet in public spaces just like they do in the banana republics. Viva Reagan! Never mind that he put us on the economic road to the ruin that we are in today. Thanks for the fantasy Mr Morality, now why don't you go back and sing about stroking pussies with your buddy Ted Nugent.
was home schooling before she had to work....and she wouldn't buy any of those videos....
I think he sees a market with the home schoolers. They probably would be an easy sell.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
Hey, don't bag on *all* homeschooling. My niece and nephew are home-schooled (due to some serious corruption issues in the school district they were in -- long story) -- it's just about whether their "teacher" is a nutbag or not.

slavery, genocide, and social/racial/gender oppression on top of the fight against workers' rights; America was never a 'good' country to begin with. we can be a more responsible nation from here on, but with half of the country as insane as it is, I wouldn't be surprised if history repeats itself.
Another clear example of accusing everyone of what you're guilty of,When the President talked to the school children there was this false flag of feigned indignation of him trying to indoctrinate the children, will lookie here, old huckleberry hound is offering children candy to get in that old van with him,it's like the tabaco industry advertising to kids with Joe Camel.
But... but...
That smacks of hypocrisy! Surely Republicans wouldn't think THAT?

I'll bet Huckee doesn't know that John Hanson was the first President of the United States under the Articles of Confederation. Or that the Articles were replaced by the Constitution because the states had too much power. But that would mean acknowledging that the right wing's whole "states' rights" argument is bullshit.
... and I'm a Marylander. From what I've just read about him at Wikipedia and Snopes, he was president of the Continental Congress. Under the Articles of Confederation, there was no "United States of America" nation - just a collection of 13 independent, sovereign states - and no executive branch. The shortcomings of the Articles of Confederation made the states realize the need for a centralized government and thus we got the Constitution, a nation, and an executive branch with a national President.
John Hanson was the first President of the “United States” under the Articles of Confederation (which came before the Declaration of Independence, but ratified later). This is technically true. There was no “Executive Branch” as defined under the Constitution, though. It was mostly a ceremonial position (eventually held by 7 people) that presided only over the Congress (as it existed at the time).
And no - the Huskster doesn't know this - and doesn't care. Go Reagan!
"what, me worry?" attitude?
It's great that Mike is doing something for our kids, right? The few clips that are features on this website are so ridiculous that it's a bit hard to believe that anyone but the most conservative of parents would watch these.
I have to admit I sort of considered buying them for how unbelievably funny I find them; hopefully Media Matters or someone will buy, post and analyze them online.
apparently, there is a market.
... if we're bitching about how kids need to know history, why isn't this a primary source of material for the schools?
The answer, of course, is that we don't care about *education* as much as *indoctrination*. The idea that Jeebus himself shat out the Constitution while he singlehandedly defeated Hitler, Stalin, Gacy and Dahmer is a fun fairy tale...
defeated Hitler, Stalin, Gacy and Dahmer
wow!!! i for one would love to see that movie!

If you need funds to pay for frivolity, you have a spending problem
you got that right!!!
but did they screen test it with kids? kids don't just watch any old cartoon just because (indoctrinate) it is a cartoon. i remember wanting to gouge my eyes out (indoctrinate) with a spoon over some of the saturday morning schlock (indoctrinate) that made it to broadcast, but i guess adults know entertainment.
You know I try hard to be a peaceful, loving, empathetic person but sometimes these wingnuts just get me incensed with their cognitively dissonant bullshit.
I haven't read all the comments so sorry if someone already made this point....If we don't blame America first then that means we blame someone else first. That is the way it works. Still that seems the beacons of personal responsibility way to roll.
Every conscious adult knows it does no good to blame someone else for your problems. You must find the problem with you and fix that. Ultimately that is the only way to bring about change.
It would be logical that it works the same way on a larger scale. Unfortunately they seem to think it is proper to teach our kids that it is always someone elses fault. Scum bags.
Is it always our fault. No. Regardless, it is our job to see where we can improve ourselves, not to look to see what the problem with the rest of the world in. That is called LEADERSHIP/SETTING AN EXAMPLE.
If everyone recognized what our corporate masters had done to the world and its people they would have a very different take on all this. They would also more clearly recognize "why they hate us".
Yes, I prefer to blame America first to assure that I(we) have done my(our) part to make sure I have done all I can to make the situation better. Ultimately that is the most effective and really, the only thing we can do in a positive vein.
I had not thought of it that way, but you are absolutely correct.
What also enters into this is that Americans are so full of 'we are exceptional' that they have no concept of looking at situations from the other's point of view. Like 'one man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter' totally valid.
If you need funds to pay for essentials, you have a revenue problem
If you need funds to pay for frivolity, you have a spending problem
When those in power try to pass blame on those without power -it's a lie.
The banks blaming homeowners in foreclosure-gate etc.
Those that have the power are ALWAYS to blame.
Americans need to understand this.

Not sure I agree that those in power are ALWAYS to blame. I do agree however that those with more(power, money) should, as conscious loving beings, care for the lessers. That I see as their RESPONSIBILITY. I call it morality. Of course responsible, caring loving beings has no relationship to the knee jerk reactionary bunch that call themselves conservatives today.
Ultimately I understand and agree with your point. My disagreement is a nuance.

Here is some history for Mr. Huckabee. Julius Streicher! His publication, The Poisonous Mushroom, brought propaganda to young German children much like his distorted videos target America's youth. Not at all surprising that his distortions continue in his interview. Could he show me what polling company produces statistics that say that 91% of LIBERALS who saw these videos wanted to buy them for their own children? Or that only 25% of high school seniors know that George Washington was the first president? These numbers are so blantantly ridiculous that only a Fox viewer could possibly believe them.
His friendly, milquetoast, fatherly demeanor hides an evil agenda. He, and his ilk will destroy everything that is good and decent in this country. Remember the words from the Temptations:
"Smiling faces sometimes pretend to be your friend
Smiling faces show no traces of the evil that lurks within"
I've always wondered why people are so opposed to viewing history objectively. I mean, some either happened or it didn't.
I mean, I understand that there's an awful lot of interpretation that goes into history so that we can make sense of it all, but leaving out facts--whether they are good things America has done or bad--is just poor history.

History changes all the time. Each generation projects their own mores and values when interpreting what happened in the past. It’s very difficult to truly understand what took place without knowing actual context and the way people thought when that history happened. It’s much easier to only apply today’s context.
When people like the Huckster try to rewrite the past, they care nothing about understanding it. They care about controlling people – and how they think in the present.
when I was 11. One day in history class I noticed the wording in all of the books referred only to "he" and "him." It dawned on me that everything I had learned up to that point was from a male only perspective.
WOW! What a slap in the face that was.
Half of the population had been completely ignored and discounted.

I think Democrats should start touting Reagan. I only say that because Reagan could never even win a primary in todays Republican atmosphere. The Dems should start screaming about everything that Reagan did that the Teabaggers would hate. Kind of like all Reagan all the time.
I'm a democrat who has been adversely affected by Ronnie Ray-Gun, and I'm here to tell you that I'll work vigorously AGAINST any democratic politician who tries to use Reagan's actions in his campaign, no matter what the reasoning. The public, as a whole, is too stupid to understand the nuances of sarcasm, hyperbole or reverse psychology necessary to make that tactic successful.

I can't wait to see the one where FDR's experiments with socialism cause the Depression, and how Woody Guthrie's glamorizing the hobo life caused a generation of able bodied men to abandon their families and responsibilities to wander the nation as panhandling tourists.
Anyone else notice the striking similarity between the Ronnie The Savior Of America cartoon and the Hitler The Scourge Of Humanity World War Two cartoon?
Both leaders depicted as informing their people they are chosen by God to do His bidding.
Identical.
Then of course Ronnie is arbitrarily depicted as Good, Hitler as Evil.
When will government of the people, by the politicians, for the corporations perish from this Earth?

all of Fuckabee's tribute to Raygun car-toon. I was looking forward to the part about the Iran-Contra thingy and how hero Ollie saved the day.
And, the parts about how Ronny saved us (and the whole US) from those mean old air traffic controllers while single-handedly making the world safe for billionaire tax-evaders. Great job Huck!

that people need to listen to the charlatan and liar David Barton is bad enough. To hear any serious American claim that re-education should be imposed at the point of a gun should give freedom lovers, people, who understand what the freedom of thought is really about, great pause.
It is alarming that Huckabee believes the many lies of David Barton; it is disgraceful, dangerous and thoroughly un-American that he wants to impose those lies (or truths for that matter) on us by force.
That kind of statement would get a commentator fired or suspended from any legitimate news media, but we all know that Fox is neither news or legitimate. Huckabee's authoritarian perspective fits in well with what Ailes and Fox is all about.
If you need to get more information about David Barton, I highly recommend Liars for Jesus by Chris Rodda. Click on that link: Rodda was so upset about how Stewart let Barton get away with his lies on The Daily Show that she's made her book available online FOR FREE!

Good information in that book. Thanks for the link.
Stewart dropped the ball in that interview, and he knew it. He brought on a constitutional scholar a few days latter for a better rebuttal.
The Reich wing propagandizing children , why am I not surprised ?
"The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all."
While those same shrill, strident voices were condemning our LAWFULLY ELECTED President as a "socialist" and a propagandist for urging kids to stay in school, and our First Lady was condemned for encouraging kids to maybe back away from the Twinkies and soda and perhaps exercise a little.

Funny how Reagon the Savior of America is shown as talking about how this is a nation under God and God this and God that...than cut to Hitler saying we are a nation ordained by God! Shocking similarities....think subliminally Huck is all for Hitler?
Oh btw, anyone else notice that awesome line about Reagan fighting communism in Hollywood! LOVE IT!! Praise the witchhunt of a rabid senator!!
Mr. Washington was the first 4 year term president after the Revolution and constitution was enacted. There were many others who preceded him. You need the history lesson, Mike, if I may!

Huntington? Where did you get that?
How about a list...
Peyton Randolph of Virginia
Henry Middleton
John Hancock – Served as President of the 2nd Continental Congress – which is why his signature is so big on the Declaration of Independence.
Henry Laurens
John Jay
Samuel Huntington – Delegate from Connecticut for 5 years, elected Pres on his 5th Term
Thomas McKean - Like Huntington, President DURING Ratification of the Articles of Confederation
John Hanson – First to serve full term AFTER ratification of the Articles of Confederation
Elias Boudinot
Thomas Mifflin
Richard Henry Lee
Nathaniel Gorham
Arthur St. Clair
Cyrus Griffin
Easy to see that the Huckster has taken his que from Glenn Beck and is now spreading his false history and propaganda.
Remember when the right threw a fit when Obama announced he was going to give a back to school speech to school kids in Sept. 2009? They called it propaganda, something Chairman Mao might have done.
What the Huckster is doing is propaganda, spreading lies over and over and over again.....and, making money from these lies!
As with most religious folk, Mr. Huckabee is merely trying to exploit ignorance for his own ends, by filling it with whatever self-serving mythology is most useful to him.

...he's talking about indoctrination. It's important for children to learn the truth about our history, not just all the good things that Huckabee is talking about. There's no point in bombarding little kids with tales of genocide, racial hatred, and war, but they should be taught -- from the beginning -- that American history is not always a happy story of good people doing good things. Later, when they're older and better able to process more detailed information, they should be exposed to both the good and bad of American history. All the Wingers I know want American children to be fed a steady diet of propaganda designed to produce citizens who are unquestioning robots who accept the universal goodness of the United States. But since the US hasn't been universally good, that kind of propaganda has no place in education.
I watched a few of those 'history' dvd's. The one on WWII did not mention FDR once, then at the end, the cartoon charter said something like: "we know what those history books say, but we know the truth". If it wasn't so sad, it would be funny.
Huckabee should be ashamed of himself. But religious zealots are sadly lacking any sense of shame.
I want Rick Santorum's body. For medical research.
For example, let's not let Huckabee know that the rate of violent crime in America was higher when Reagan left office than it was when he came in. It went steadily down under Clinton, to the point where when Clinton left office, the rate was lower than it had been when Reagan was inaugurated.
We wouldn't want to wake him up from his dreaming, after all.
