During what could only be described as an extremely painful segment to watch, Fox's Sean Hannity, right-wing radio host Bill Cunningham and Jerry Springer got into a shouting match over whether President Obama is to blame for the fact that we still haven't recovered from the Great Recession started under George W. Bush where the U.S. economy was in free fall when the president first took office, with Cunningham and Hannity of course blaming Obama for the mess we're in now.

Hannity was even condescending enough to ask just when Obama was going to "put on his big boy pants" and finally take responsibility for the current economy. When Jerry Springer pointed out that Republicans were obstructing any recovery now and that it was the Republicans who started two wars they refused to pay for, he was interrupted before he could finish making the rest of his point with Hannity chiming in with more war mongering:

HANNITY: I'd start a third one. I'd take out the Iranian nuclear facilities tomorrow and Jerry Springer you would think...

SPRINGER: How are you going to pay for that if you keep dropping taxes?

HANNITY: You would drop bunker busting bombs on...

SPRINGER: You don't pay for health care. You know, you don't pay for schools. You don't pay for things that save people's lives...

HANNITY: That's right, so we don't have a modern day Holocaust by a country that wants to destroy Israel.

SPRINGER: All you want to do is make sure that wealthy people don't have to pay more taxes.

Hannity was too busy talking over Springer to answer his question, but I found it pretty jarring even for Hannity to hear him say that if it was up to him he'd start another war right now. And of course he doesn't want millionaires like himself to have to pay for it. Chickenhawks like Hannity don't want to serve in these wars they love to drumbeat for and they don't want to sacrifice one iota by being asked to pay another dime in taxes either. He's the poster child for what ails the Republican Party right now which could pretty well be summed up with I've got mine and f*** you.

I'm still waiting for Hannity to take up Keith Olbermann's offer to be waterboarded for charity, but that's as likely to happen as him being willing to go serve in one of these wars he so glibly wants to start or cheer leads for.

Actually pretty effective people speak in the shadows about the same thing. Research the membership of PNAC and what they had to say in September of 2000. These people are masters at getting what they want and avoiding prosecution. I'm sure you haven't heard of them from many journalists pretending to be counter culture or alternative muckrakers either. Dig deeper.

I remember how people like Hannity used to say, "All we have to do to end the war is bomb Hanoi." So we did, forty years ago this Christmas. And the war did end-- North Vietnam won.

..if Obama declared war on Iran, Hannity & his Fixed News propaganda nursery would instantly blast Obama for rushing into war as a way to score political points during a presidental campaign.

Then they would demand Obama state how he is going to pay for his war, & this is a war not sanctioned by congress (Fixed News would declare an Obama war with Iran is not sanctioned by congress even if it is sanctioned by congress).

In short, the right would shit their trousers if Obama launched a war with Iran during presidental campaign season.

Somebody needs to go on Fixed News & inform them of this fact.

ALL hat. No cattle.

The oft ignored group known as PNAC feel much the same way and actually stated this very idea long time ago. Journalists for some reason like to ignore this reality and pretend to not know the roots of this ideology. Hopefully everyone interested can read the publication "Rebuilding America's Defenses" put out by this group including Dick Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Jeb Bush in September of 2000.

Wesley Clark has also publicly spoken out about this plan of PNAC. But no one likes to hear what they don't want to hear or feel powerless to confront.

May the truth set this country free.

Stephen Colbert obviously sees through the Neocon agenda and so does Jon Stewart, Bill Maher and a host of other media folks. Cenk Uygar is another one who is also blowing Ron Paul's horn. Glenn Greenwald also, to a certain extent:

http://revolutionarypolitics.tv/video/viewVid...

"The US has an army of 90,000 soldiers in Afghanistan and is spending $100bn a year, but has still been unable to defeat 20,000-25,000 Taliban who receive no pay at all." - Patrick Cockburn

Andy K's picture

He was asked whom- if he was forced to choose from the current Republican candidates- he'd support. That's a far, far cry from endorsement.

pissed off patricia's picture

I saw the show this morning and the reason he said he liked Paul was that Paul sticks by whatever he says and always has. Paul doesn't find out which way the wind is blowing before he speaks. Colbert did not say he agreed with Paul. So I doubt it was a policy endorsement but more a character endorsement.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

but other than being anti-war everything else he's for is either crazy or mean spirited. The fact that he would still vote against the Voting Rights Act of 1964 really says it all.

pissed off patricia's picture

I was just trying to explain that it wasn't a policy endorsement. He simply admired that Paul wasn't wishy washy, I doubt that Colbert agrees with all Paul's other stuff.

But Ron Paul is a nut. Just because you like the stance he takes on a handful of issues (out of the thousands a REAL President must address), does not make him a sane, viable candidate. And no amount of bulls**t 'weighting' of issues can compensate for his craziness or the damage he would do to the very core of this nation.
Even if I believed Ron Paul's shtick, which I don't, what would we get by electing him President?

I like what Ron Paul says about foreign poicy and the MIC. Some of his other ideas are a bit crazy and he seems to be a racist, but Santorum is a homophobe so that's not really much better. And I doubt Ron Paul could shut down the Department of Education, as we have seen said repeatedly here in these threads, the presidency is weak and the Office has little influence over Congress. He can't just wave a magic wand and say, "Education gone".

...and jocularity ensues.

Everyone, even many people on the left, just seem to take it for granted that Iran is trying to create a nuclear bomb. At one point I was even starting to be convinced but the more I go beyond the CNNs, ABCs, and dig into more reliable news sources, the less I'm convinced that they are trying to build a bomb.

On possibility is that I suspect something similar may be going on here as with Iraq. Sadam was more afraid of his internal and local enemies than he was of the US. So he was reluctant to categorically refute the claims that he still had WMDs even though of course he didn't. I suspect that Iran may be walking the same tight rope. From what I've seen my opinion is that they are developing only nuclear power right now but at the same time since the US and Israel continue to threaten them with overt war and execute covert war (e.g. Stuxnet) they may want to encourage their enemies to think they are on the verge of developing a bomb.

Paul the Sax Guy's picture

Its so insane that we threaten them with bunker busters and that Israel has at least 100+ nukes and then we wonder why they might want a bomb of their own.

One other thing, I have an immense amount of respect for the Iranian resistance movement and the constant Neocon threats and hostility against Iran feeds right into keeping the current regime in power. It gives them some credibility when they claim that the green revolution people are just dupes of the CIA.

If you do a little research it is interesting that Iran's nuclear program got started due to a Rand Corp. study done in the Ford administration. Rand ascertained that Iran was going to run out of oil and encouraged them to seek an alternative energy source. So, with the blessing of Rumsfeld, Cheney, et. al. in the Ford cabinet they did. Now their program is bearing fruit and those same people are shitting bricks. I am continuously amused by how many people listen to Hannity, an uneducated man with only a high school diploma. Scary.

Why is it that a majority of Republicans who have never themselves served their country seem to not mind calling others, usually the poor and middle class to put their LIVES on the line for what is in America's best interests but find it repulsive to ask the rich to put some MONEY on the line for what is in America best interests? I hope someday that they DO get to meet this god of theirs and find out exactly what HE/SHE thinks about the way they led their lives on this plane of existence. Wish I could be there to see it but Hannity already told me I'll be going straight to somewhere else. Maybe I can get a local with a stopover just to see the look on this dirtbags face.
