Governor Huntsman to Resign and Join Obama Administration as Ambassador to China
Looks like another GOP moderate may be out of the running as a potential Presidential candidate in 2012.
President Barack Obama reached across the political divide Saturday and named Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, a potential Republican presidential contender in 2012, to the sensitive diplomatic post of U.S. ambassador to China.
Fluent in Mandarin Chinese from his days as a Mormon missionary in Taiwan, the 49-year-old Huntsman is a popular two-term governor who served in both Bush administrations. He has made a name for himself advocating a moderate agenda in one of the nation's most conservative states.
Huntsman made headlines recently for encouraging the Republican Party to swing in a more moderate direction if it wanted to bounce back from the 2008 elections, angering some conservatives.
Obama's 2008 campaign manager, David Plouffe, said Huntsman is a Republican who "seems to understand the party has to adjust — not stubbornly believe that everything is OK and it is the country that has to change." Huntsman's positions have led some to consider him a potential contender for president in 2012. But Obama's decision to name him ambassador probably rules out the possibility he would run in 2012, writes NBC's First Read. As Politico notes, it's the equivalent of George W. Bush hiring John Edwards or Hillary Clinton in 2001-2002.

They make alot of decisions, but an ambassador to China better be done by someone with much experience, and this guy has it. And being fluent in Mandarin Chinese pretty much assures him the position if he wants it. Thats life in a "globally competitive" world we live in, one where China finds itself sole proprietor and lender of capital for America's extremely foolish foreign policy decisions to enrish the defense industry and spend obscenely in pursuit of fossil fuels in Iraq and Afghanistan.

As I think about it a bit more, maybe this is a good decision by Obama.
By making Huntsman an ambassador, Obama effectively removes him from the 2012 presidential campaign, doesn't he? Can Huntsman still potentially run for office? I'm not sure how that works.
Yup, he can still run. Especially after gaining a couple of years of "international experience." Then he can quit over a policy dispute with Obama making him a GOP hero.

Because, honestly... I am a firm believer in Occam's Razor approach to explain things, and if we apply it to Obama's actions so far... let's just say that I am becoming less than impressed with each passing policy fuck up by Mr. Obama.
No, I am not going to go down into the intellectually dishonest attempt to equate Obama with Bush, as some of the perennial trolls in this site try to get away with. However, I believe in giving credit where credit is due, and so far there have been few policies by his team that I have found palatable. And some others, like this one, I find them right out disturbing. So far I am just seeing a slight improvement, clearly not as many policy clusterfucks as Bush.... but Obama promised "change" not just "slight improvement."
I am glad I went independent a while ago. And frankly, if Obama and the Dems continue this way, a 3rd party needs to come up and represent real liberal interests. It would be also beneficial if another 4th party came out to fill the same function to represent the last sane conservative individuals.

This same week Obama hired another top polluter's lawyer to serve as the people's (guffaw) lawyer against polluters. The actions should be taken together, and I'm sure we'll see lax environmental laws in the U.S. and weak participation in global environmental treaties. So what will Obama get? Well, there's a power vacuum left in Utah. Will we see a conservative Dem governor there?
A little trivia. Back when Michael Moore was promoting his Farenheit 9/11 movie and was an invited speaker at BYU, Sean Hannity was to be there the next day to counter whatever Michael Moore said. Jon Huntsman offer his private jet to Hannity to get there and Hannity turned it down because it wasn't big enough. LOL I guess his swelled head wouldn't fit in the door.
