The stupid, it hurts. From the LA Times- Glenn Beck and the Society for (In)sanity in Art:
Last night Fox News ranter Glenn Beck went off on the art made more than 70 years ago for Rockefeller Center, corporate headquarters of NBC and -- not coincidentally -- supposed arch-enemy of Rupert Murdoch's television empire. To the surprise of no one, but to the great amusement of the blogosphere (here, here and here) -- Beck donned his art critic's tin-foil conspiracy hat to find hidden evidence of "progressives, fascists and communists" in the carved reliefs and paintings of a landmark Manhattan building complex that was made a national historic monument in 1987. (Let's see; who was president that year? Oh, yeah: Commie-symp Ronald Reagan.)
How nutty did Beck get? As nutty as usual. He pointed to a portrait of Lenin in Mexican master Diego Rivera's destroyed Rockefeller lobby mural, "Man at the Crossroads," but forgot to mention that old John D. had the mural removed because of it. (Facts are stubborn things -- even more stubborn than demagoguery.) With comedy stylings like that, Beck is turning out to be the Harold Harby of our day.
Who was Harold Harby? A Los Angeles city councilman in the early 1950s, Harby took up propaganda-arms with a paranoid group of right-wing loonies called the Society for Sanity in Art. They made it their patriotic duty to search out Communist symbols they just knew were hidden in that weird, postwar abstract art.

Well, I don't know if we should say that people in general watch this shit, but vast numbers of American people do, in their millions. Beck is usually the top-rated or second top-rated in his time slot with every broadcast. It does not reflect well on the United States.

Forking hard money over for cable with this wreck of a program on is beyond rethugs being a mental illness.
The only network I would watch is TCM, Turner Classic Movies. It is not worth it to lose that money for one channel.
We have DTV with rabbit ears. The only channels I watch are PBS and Create which is on PBS.
I build my own computer systems and have a good collection of audio gear. I listen to Jazz24.com or our own NPR jazz station in Vegas, KNUV.

One has to wonder when they'll take him off of the air, for his own protection. He's manic depressive. And he's in a tail spin.
I know someone with a severe case of bipolar (manic-depressive) illness. Beck exhibits many of its symptoms.
Last week, Dr. Keith Ablow (shrink to the stars) was on Beck's program, trying to tell him how to protect himself against name calling.
After I saw Beck's craziness about the NBC building, I sent Ablow an email urging him to help Beck and get him off the air.
Doubt that will happen, but Beck does need serious help.
I think he's paranoid delusional.

I see that in the last day or two, 11 more advertisers have dropped from beck's show....bringing the total to 57. That's simply amazing. I'm sure this is contributing to Beck's craziness.

And, LNM, I know you see this as a good thing - and I respect that. But these companies are STILL advertising on fox - just not on Beck's show. Call me cynical, but to me, the whole thing stinks - a cheap publicity stunt to gin up "controversy" and drive even more viewers to his show. Just my $.02.

Haha! Both funny and true, if the local station that carries Beck's radio program is any indication. Local AM radio station WBHP 1230 plays Beck's show in the morning*, and has hours of "Coast to Coast" and other paranormal/alien conspiracy talks shows at night. I didn't think that the people who listen to Beck believed in aliens, but they probably think the shows are talking about Mexicans that can levitate.
*I'm not sure, but WBHP may have recently replaced Beck's show with one by someone equally crazy and angry.

My small HUB (Native American) business has already received two stimulus funded contracts and fully 1/4 of the intersections in my town are torn up while they are redoing underground utilities. This started about three months ago. If I was a crazy conpiracy theorist I would guess this is also do to stimulus money. Am I crazy?

Beck has now become Fox's preeminent re-educator. He has moved from commentator to historical re writer extraordinaire. Olberman makes fun of him, but we should be alarmed at this trend. Watching him on this video reminds me of the old news reel warnings about communists, the H-bombs, and socialism. But even more disconcerting is the remarkable similarity to the instructors at the Kmer Rouge social re engineering camps circa 1975.

This guy just blows my mind with his stupidity!! That art has been around since the turn of the century and up to the 1920's and 30's when the idea of communism was actually interesting to many Americans because of the secrecy and publicized success of the Soviet Union at the time. Also, most artists at that time where pro communism i.e. Diego Rivera who was a favorite of super capitalist Rockefeller. It's interesting that he believes that art was somehow placed around New York at that time for when Obama took office in 2009.
p.s. God forbid we celebrate the worker (communist) in the United States. I wonder wether Beck believes we should ban "Labor Day"?
