Fox News Paints the Obamas as Out of Touch for Spending $260 on Family Dinner at Hawaiian Restaurant
Here we go again with some "fair and balanced" reporting from what is supposed to be one of their "straight news" shows, as opposed to what they admit is opinion during their evening lineup on Fox. Every time President Obama takes any vacation time in Hawaii, this is the kind of "reporting" we end up with from Uncle Rupert's stenographers.
From Thursday night's Special Report with Bret Baier, guest host Chis Wallace and Fox reporter Doug Luzader do their best to spin President Obama as some out of touch "elitist" because... get this... they might have spent as much at $260 at a Hawaiian restaurant to feed a family of four. OMG!! Hell, that's almost $100 less than Paul Ryan's now infamous bottle of wine, but I don't think Fox bothered to tell their viewers about that. What's worse is it was immediately followed by them showing a clip of Mitt Romney on the campaign trail hammering President Obama for being out of touch. Yeah, that man of the people, Mitt Romney.
Here's more from our friends at News Hounds -- Fox News Hypocritically Uses Jobless Claims To Play Class Warfare Against President Obama:
Once again, those Fox News hypocrites who complain the left plays class warfare jumped at the chance to do so themselves for the sake of swiping at President Obama. In a Special Report segment today that purported to be about “rough economic news,” reporter Doug Luzader gratuitously mentioned that the Obama’s spent more on dinner last night than most others in Hawaii can afford. Then he immediately moved on to suggest that Republican presidential candidate – and Mitt Romney, of all people - is more in touch.
Luzader said,
“Even here in the Aloha state, they’ve said hello and good-bye to jobs. The unemployment rate here is on the rise again. Not many can afford the $260 that the President and First Lady are believed to have spent on dinner at this island restaurant last night.” [...]
Luzader didn’t mention that Romney has far more money than Obama. Nor did he mention where the Romney family goes out to eat.
Fox News, we distort, you decide. It's only fair to call someone an out of touch elitist if they've got a "D" behind their name and they're not one of those "job creators" don't you know. Otherwise as always, the rule is IOKIYAR.

Couldn't the Obama's just get a bucket of Popeye's chicken and a watermelon for like $20 like most other black families?

I am really glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read your comment or my keyboard would be toast.
Wait until fox finds out the Obamas paid for that meal with food stamps.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
LMAO!
Heather has a point fastfeat. that was seriously f@cked up man. but funny as hell..;)

I would have trashed the keyboard because that had me laughing out loud as well.
I got it. It's hilarious. :)

I dared spend $130 on a dinner at that den of inequity Bonefish for my brother, his wife, and myself. Granted, that was not as outlandish as the President's splurge, but given that his was in Hawaii and mine was in Jax, FL, the per person cost was in line.
I did not realize that, with a wage somewhere around $30/hr or so, I was a 1%er, out of touch with Real Americans.

If they had spent only 40 dollars then fox would have complained that Michelle was starving her daughters instead of feeding them the healthy meals she talks about.
Talk about being out of touch, look at the money fox wastes paying people to go on tv and raise hell over nothing.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
I honestly believe that these continual disgruntlements of the Obama's lifestyle are those folks who will never accept Black people not living a second class existence and anyone who dare does is doing at their expense. Fastfeat's hilarious comment above is also indicative of that no matter what the Obama's do they will be forever relentlessly slammed by the Fox types(and some Progressives) one way or another.
Shit like this is one of the major reasons why I tend(and will continue) to give Obama the benefit of doubt on most issues. Yes, Obama has made some bad mistakes as President and deserves criticism for them, but much of the bashing of Obama is from ignorant White countrymen who refuse to acknowledge unbelievable number of hateful White Americans who despise that a Black dude leads the Nation and will continue to attack/obstruct good or bad his every move.
The stain of guilt on the U.S. is greater than most will ever admit and less than the debt owed to those with African ancestry, and the two combined obstruct reconciliation of either. When the statue in Philadelphia of a mediocre actor is replaced with Joe Frazier, pound for pound perhaps the greatest boxer of all time, maybe then we can address the issue with sobriety.
which incidentally sat my friend's family way way way in the back, during 'those days' in the 90's, while they were visiting HI (yes, it was a family of Black people, a dad, a mom and a kid). They also could have afforded a much more expensive dining experience too. And probably spent that kind of money on restaurant meals, not only in HI, but the UK, France, the Philippines, Belgium, and a lot of other places many white republic party adherents would never expect to see Black people.
But hey old white fucked up cons, they're out there now, so STFU.
me-oww!
Doesn't that translate to about $125 on the mainland, where everything (except pineapple) is cheaper?
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust.
I found the prices the same as here in Monterey. Exactly the same. No price tag shock for me.
Back in the days not so long ago, when I actually had a job and money, my wife and I would go out to dinner at a nice place, 170 dollars. Plus tip.
When Obama was sworn in, 200 in wine. 2 bottles. Plus lunch.Plus tip.
260 for a dinner for four? reasonable.
Watching the GOppers heads explode, priceless.

Whoever owns the restaurant where President Obama and his family ate dinner I bet is real thankful for the patronage. If the President Obama's family had chosen to eat in, someone would have complained that they weren't supporting local restaurants.
I am not a fan of President Obama, but dammit, he just can't win on these nonsensical things.

those assholes know they ride the limbaugh bandwagon- there'll be 1000 radio stations hitting 50mil next week with this one liner - it's exorbitant for the people they fool every day and for the 1% 250$ its didley- their radio monopoly means they always get to have it both ways.
I'll bet you $10,000 that Chris Wallace's tie cost more than $260.
Sad he must see his son be a joke.

$260 for a dinner for 4 in Hawaii is a great deal and the President stimulated the local economy
everything but the pineapples have to be imported long distance. $260 isn't that much. A decent steak is $60 here. And a half decent glass of wine is $20. Appetizers and dessert and you are $260 in the states for dinner for four. He is the President for God Sakes. He should be able to have a good meal.
I was stationed at Schofield Barracks for three years. I got to shop on post and the prices were a lot lower than if I had to shop off post. Prices in Hawaii are insane. I was surprised that there weren't a lot more people living in poverty than there were.
but you can't tell that to Faux News watchers who get the special at Earl's Fish Fry and Bait Shop out in SisterBugger Alabama...
Rank has it's privileges. Whether I like you or not, if you are in a position to buy an expensive dinner I really don't care. What I care about is what you're doing with the power you hold that affects other people.

$260 for a family in Hawaii sounds pretty cheap, even if it was only the 4 immediate family members. I believe his sister and her family was also supposed to be there, so would imagine they'd all be dining together. The right wingers just continue to make themselves look very petty and ignorant when they criticize every little meaningless thing he does. They're even way beyond the boy who cried wolf. Constant petty criticism just becomes meaningless noise that only destroys their credibility. They are not serious people with legitimate grievances.
and all the other Fox news clowns. We fed 8 people and the roast alone was darn close to $100. I'm not sure how much the total meal cost, but it was fairly simple with only a few side dishes. It was home-cooked and at mainland prices, not Hawaiian. In my lifetime I don't ever recall the cost of a presidents Christmas meal being fodder for the news or even controversial. Once again proving there is really no depth too low for right wingers when it comes to the trivial and/or feigned outrage.
the dinner was paid for by taxpayer money. Happened to watch a program on C-Span Thursday night that featured 3 former White House chefs. I learned something I didn't know before and that is that the First Family pays for their own meals EVEN in the White House. All food prepared for the family means in the private quarters (this would be any meal other than an official White House occasion) is paid for by the First Family. Also, when away from the White House, meals are paid for by the First Family. Actually, Faux News shouldn't have commented at all on this dinner and, especially its cost, because it was a private matter.
The good life is a day at the beach.
(we do pay him a yearly salary, after all) doesn't matter to the right wing. The point they seem to insist on hammering home to their inbred whitetrash base is that black people should never have nice things. Last year they had their shorts in a knot over taking his vacation in an "exotic" (their favorite descriptive term last year) location like Hawaii.
Prepared Live Lobster Dinner in Texas for 2 is about half that amount. Been there and Done that.

I've seen Trump brag about getting free meals for him and his guests at 5 star restaurants because of his celebrity status, and Chris wants to score points because the President splurged on a meal for his family. I'll bet the rich are snickering about the President being so cheap.

The light at the end of the tunnel is a locomotive.
I really don't think this kind of story does anything to harm Obama outside of the 20% or so who already think he's the devil. I know plenty of people who spend that much coin on dinner every weekend, and they don't work 10% as hard as the President of the United States does.
Is this an argument that Faux really wants to start? When it comes down to envy, the people Faux shills for give the average Joe alot more to be envious of.
Both parties are just a bunch of fat cats. Hey, $250.00 is a whole lot for a family of four for dinner. Why give the Republicans (also fat cats and plus being hypocrites) fodder to use anyway?
Why give them fodder to use? Are you kidding? Who made an issue of this anyway? He went to a local restaurant, it's not like he flew in gourmet chefs from Paris or anything. $260.00 is what the restaurant charges, Maybe Fox's story should have been about their high prices.
He's the President of the United States, for God's sake! Where should he have taken his family to dinner--the local Mickey D's?
