Chris Matthews Show Panel Ponders Palin or Jeb Bush Run for 2012
(h/t Heather)
Chris Matthews loves him some political presidential predicting. We are more than two years away from the 2012 presidential election, facing a huge number of issues and challenges to the country immediately, but Tweety declares that we are close to the 'fish or cut bait' time for all Republicans to decide whether or not to challenge Obama for the presidency.
Hooookay. I guess he'd rather we didn't remember that back in 2007 (mind you, only a year from the election), Matthews had decided for all of us that Rudy Giuliani and Hillary Clinton would be the Republican and Democratic nominees for president. How'd that work out for you, Chris?
So it is with a rather large grain of salt that we look at the bobbleheads' choices at the top of the Republican slate, tellingly segregated into the non-secular and Christian Conservative brands. On the non-secular side, we have Mitt Romney (huh?), Tim Pawlenty, Haley Barbour and Jeb Bush. On the Christian Conservative side, there's Mike Huckabee and the one who sucks the oxygen away from all the others: Sarah Palin.
The general consensus appears to be that if Palin does decide to run, then it's clear that she'll win the nomination. I'm really not sure why these bobbleheads are so convinced of that. Sure, she's good fodder for the 24 hour cable news channels right now, but it's because she doesn't have to be accountable to anything. Despite what Howard Fineman would have you believe, a Twitter account is hardly the benchmark of a good candidate. How well will she fare when she has to give concrete answers to issues and explain exactly what policies she will pursue beyond the jingoistic vagaries she now offers up. "Restoring honor" to America may be good at a tea party rally, but will not sell to a majority of Americans who want to know how you'll bring back jobs. Personally, I think Palin will make all the moves to appear to run for President just to build momentum to keep her at the top of the influential list and keep the money flowing into her coffers. But I can't believe that Palin has any interest in the actual mundane realities of holding office. It's far easier and more lucrative to opine from the sidelines. Watch as she makes motions to run--saying God is calling her to the office, making appearances in Iowa, scaring away some potential rivals with the cult-like adoration of the tea partiers--and then bows out, blaming the "lamestream media" or some other entity, who dare to ask questions or hold her accountable to you know, presidential requirements.
The other potential candidate that tickles Tweety's fancy is Jeb Bush, belying again his inability to consider politics in context. GWB wasn't even out of office yet and historians had already placed his presidency in bottom five of worst presidencies this country has ever seen, and GHWB fared only slightly better, offering up a single undistinguished term. And yet, from this pedigree we're supposed to believe that Americans would embrace a Bush dynasty in office, even though the other media narrative they've been propagating is that Americans are in an anti-incumbent mood and are gravitating to political outsiders? Cognitive dissonance much, Chris?
Bottom line for anyone who actually cares about being accountable for being correct instead of pulling opinions from their posterior, it's much too early to know much less predict the 2012 primary outcome. There are so many possible factors that could or will change.
But that won't stop Tweety & Pals.

...to be a complete asshole. Just another Sunday political talk show(scat fest) that makes really stupid people feel a little smart.
Winning is more important to republicans than governing.
That's how we got Bush twice. They would be happy to go for a threesome. They'll take whoever they get.
If the American middle class does not learn to vote at every opportunity we are all doomed.
If the American middle class does not learn to think for itself we are all doomed.
We can start right now by rejecting the corporate media narrative, and by every one of us voting in our own best interest November.

We are doomed Ape man , the Reich wing cult members in this country are thoroughly brainwashed and are not capable of logic , reason or critical thinking , in fact that goes for over half the friggin country I would say .
It is pretty much all over but the crying. Folly and fiascos will be the norm as they have been. What ever happened to the environment issue. Maybe the neocons intend to cull the population totals through starvation and or man made plague. They sure seem to want to cut any social safety net for any victims of economic disaster and leave them to the wolves. Truly there are too many brain dead walking around believing everything will be alright if they listen to our so called leaders and the MSM. With that said, I wonder how many people out there actually believe Palin is a viable candidate for President. I find her completely absurd. Maybe we should vote her in and get it over with. It would be like committing hari kari.
...I frankly wouldn't be so sure that the neoconservatives don't have population control (or if not that, the Apocalypse) in the backs of their minds. How else do you explain the fact that during the Bush administration, not just one but two research facilities dedicated to the study of contagious disease were constructed in areas prone to severe weather -- one in Galveston (which was devastated by Hurricane Ike in 2008) and the other in an area of Kansas which is prone to tornadoes?
It's hardly a secret that many among the neoconservatives are either sympathetic to evangelical Christians -- many of whom now believe that they will see the events foretold in the Book of Revelation occur within their lifetimes -- or actually adhere to these beliefs themselves. There are those who claim that Bush thought himself to be on a mission from God -- some say that he believed it was his duty to help bring about the End Times. Even removing the War In Iraq from the equation, there were more than a few moments when it seemed as if Bush was deliberately hoping to provoke some sort of international incident which potentially could escalate into an all-out last-man-standing global conflict.
The US is already burdened with the first of the proverbial Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (War) -- and we potentially might find ourselves facing the second one (Famine) as well considering the poor economy and the potential threat of higher energy costs/Peak Oil (since almost all of the nation's food supply travels a considerable distance in order to reach our tables). Suppose that someone in the Bush administration was thinking -- even if only subconsciously -- that building disease-research facilities in these locations could be a means of releasing the third Horseman of Pestilence and conveniently blaming it upon it an Act Of God (either literally or figuratively)? Personally, I don't think it's quite as far-fetched as it might seem...which leads me to suspect that if Palin or Jeb Bush were to run for president and succeed in winning the election, all we'd get is more of the same. If nothing else, let's not forget that Jeb Bush is one of the founding members of PNAC!

the quitter off the TV and into the back burner..Let us look at what is real and in front of us..This is not the topic--it is feeling like a republicann/bagger push..to distract!
With today's GOP, isn't it more like, "Fish or BE bait?"
It will assure the Republicans will remain out of the White House...
The ultra right may be noisy, but they do not represent most Americans...
How about Palin/Joe the Plumber, on a 'dumb and dumber' ticket?
I've yet to hear any indication if Pres Obama plans to run for reelection
Obama needs to call it quits in 2012. We need a real socialist that will give the repugs a real reason to yell MARXIST!
LimpBalls
Like that'll work...

The Republicans are running an election tournament with two brackets. There's no winner's bracket, just two loser's brackets...
Jeb and Sarah or Sarah and Jeb, now we have a real horse race with four star entertainment. Get your supply of popcorn now. Can you buy that stuff with food stamps? Barry and or Hillary will be shaking in their boots. You betcha.
Palin, Bush, Baurbor? What a fucking dog show.
This isn't journalism.

Thank You for pointing that out. He is nothing but an employee at a big corporation. He represents them to the public. Kind of like a PR dude or something. Make cents?

"Maybe this, or what about that, or"..........,
Tune in again next week, when we will continue to act like the republicans were not responsible for any of the catastrophe's they created.
I will say this though, she may lose some of the religious wing-nut vote, but if Moose Girl were to pose nude with six shooters blazing out of each hand, she would probably win.
I heard two redneck boomers talkin' about how hot she was the other day. Have to admit, I laughed my a** off.
I think one of them was Rich Lowry's dad?
Rush Limbaugh is what a smart person thinks a stupid bigot sounds like.

Matthews' bread and butter is not journalism. It is discourse.
The whole MSM has been a total mess since the 24/7 drama in the aftermath of 9/11.
The MSM has to keep up the sense of doom one way or another now, and for ever more. Like a drug, they cannot function anymore without it.
Even at the expense of journalism and civil discourse.
The MSM and the Republicans have always looked at the 9/11 catastrophe as a corporate opportunity.
Very Shameful but very profitable.

You say that "... she doesn't have to be accountable to anything." But who is there to hold her accountable? The press certainly isn't. There are no Republic leaders with the moderation and balls to do so.
And it's not just that the press has abdicated unbiased coverage on Palin. Look at all the tea-bagging gubernatorial and senatorial candidates who are refusing to debate, refusing to be interviewed by any medium other than Fox news, and appearing only in front of friendly audiences. Palin has broken the code here. As dumb as she is about the issues that impact our country, she has proven to be the most wily political operative since Karl Rove. He understood that you attacked an opponent's strengths, even if you had to lie your ass off. Palin understands, and her acolytes are proving every day, that you simply don't have to play by the old rules of accountability. You don't have to debate. You don't have to put yourself through any tough questioning. You don't have to answer for ANYTHING that you say.
Her prescience might be dumb luck. Might be some animal level instinct. Might be that she just stumbled on this formula because she is an ignorant, pretentious MILF. But she DID stumble on it, and is playing it like a well tuned fiddle. We are sooooo f****d!
I wouldn't vote for any of them. Also, there is no reason in the world to vote for any republican. And why Chrisey are you so concerned about it now? A better question would be "Is Boner going to be Speaker Why the fuck would anybody br concerned about who's running in 2012?
"restoring american honor"?
copywrite it because we have been trying to restore it long before Beck hijacked it. He has only distorted it.

Heres hoping that, by the end of the 2012 elections, Pay-lin will have cashed in enough and failed to get her way, that she'll disappear from the political scene.
That or some grand scandle will shut the bitch up for good.

Uh, do you and I inhabit the same universe, much less the same country? When was the last time a US politician fared poorly for not giving concrete answers beyond jingoistic vagaries?
The difference being that (most) of the aforementioned politicians have the ability to atleast offer coherent answers if they chose to.

The bitter dust of winter
Delivers her speech
Leaving a feeble shell
Over a once vaulted honor.
She prattles from the arctic basin
As my hands move over my disbelief;
How can this pale ghost,
With her invalid procession,
Consume expectation like a feral beast?
O! We’ll greet her breathless yelping
With sideways glances kept for fools
And open the gates to her weather;
Her misbegotten storm winking
Deep within our better selves.
She drinks our tidal melancholy
left beneath our plodding steps;
Sadness felled of our waiting, drifts
To a pitiable weight.
The bitter dust of winter
Will pitch us into uncertain folly,
Statesmen will lather the tempest
As she strokes them in madness.

When you mean "bitch", say it.
Palin will never run for President , she's happy being in the spot light , has been an attention whore all of her life , and is cashing in big time on the morons in this country by just showing up to whatever event , being a blithering idiot ( herself ) , just making sure to say the words patriot , freedom etc. , she quit her job as governor of Alaska in order to cash in . I don't think even the Reich wing cult members are ready for another Bush . Another Bush and I will be an illegal living some where in Mexico .
Palin is an ego-maniac.
She'll run for sure. And probably win.
Why?
Because Evangelicals make up about 30 - 40% of the population...
the father, son and the holy ghost.....
Every time Tweety opens his pie hole and spews forth anything relating to "Bug Eyes" Tom Delay of "Sister Sludge" Sarah Palin he gets a hard-on which he swears could drive nails! FUCK YOU, TWEETY, to the nth degree!
I agree that it seems precipitously early to be talking about which right-wing Threat To America will run for President, let alone be that miserable party's nominee.
Yet . . .
I would be remiss if I failed to note a couple of things. As some famous wag once said, "you'll never go broke under-estimating the American people." That goes double for Repiglickens. To them, Jeb Bush is NOT the failure-in-waiting that we see in him. To them, Jeb Bush is The Man Who Can Save Us From That Negro. (TM) I'm sending $20 to a buddy of mine in the UK, and asking him to put it on Jeb Bush for the GOP nominee at whatever odds are being offered, the higher the better.
The Bush Crime Family is defined not so much by what WE think of IT, as what IT thinks of ITSELF, and there is no more megalomaniacal gang of political welfare queens in this country. It matters little whether WE think Jeb should be president. That hateful old beast Barbara and her bumbling bail-out hubby have already DECLARED it.
I just wanted to say "Thank You" to all the intellectual progressive banter I've read on the post this morning. It's very refreshing. I live in a county in SW Ohio that is saturated in republican propaganda and all I hear about is how Democrats eat their babies and evil Obama is ...OMG... a socialist! I might add the a vast majority of my county's populace is under educated and card carrying NRA bobbleheads and will believe anything that Faux Opinion Channel broadcasts. I HOPE as a nation that we as progressive and all Democrats alike do come out IN FORCE during the elections and not let these moron teabagger's in any type of leadership position ever again. Geeezzz, imagine another eight years of palin and the GOP cabal. I AM A PROUD PROGRESSIVE LIBERAL!
Hope it's Palin. I have to believe that there are enough Americans who see through her masquerade. The woman is mentally ill, and by that I mean she has a severe character disorder, possibly even bipolar. Having said that, I don't think she really wants the job. She'd have to be accountable. She'd have to talk to people who disagree with or might challenge her. According to the guy who wrote the article in Vanity Fair, her little inner circle has been shrinking, as her paranoia increases and more people run from her once they get to know the real Sarah. She's dishonest, petty, vindictive, and prone to Dr. Jekyl/Ms. Hide mood swings. The fact that this horrid woman has gained such national prominence is pathetic.
as quadrennial Presidential favorites. Besides JEB Bush, there is also Neil and Marvin Bush, plus Dubya's and JEB's offspring. With the resurgence of the Bush family name involved in national politics in the second decade of the 21st century, it becomes easy to predict that it will resemble the 1960s in at least one regard -- an uptick in political assassinations, and not all directed at the Bush Crime Family. There is, after all, a family legacy to uphold.
Sarah Palin OTOH, represents less a viable Presidential candidate and more, for some unknown quirk of fate, a position as spoiler or king-maker. The title to that crown has largely been yielded up from Rush Limbaugh. Perhaps that is due to her much better telepresence -- Rush just doesn't have that much visual appeal.
Chris Matthews continues to illustrate his special skills as a moderator with sharp critical analytical capabilities to such an extent that he will doubtless be hailed as the apex of Sunday morning talk shows.

Palin will not run. Why? She is the female version of Elmer Gantry. She is as dishonest as any faith healer, she's in it for the money.

The USA is doomed forever if ever an ignorant Palin or another dumb Bush become Prez.
The seeds the New Right Republicans planted in 1977 are now in full bloom and the poison they are spreading is taking hold. The United States as a viable entity is in the last stages of collapsing like the Soviet Union did. We're going to break into a bunch of pieces and there is nothing that can stop it. the divisions are now too great to be reconciled.
All this talk of Jeb Bush running for President reminds me of the dubious Ford ad line of not too long ago: (sure we've manufactured year after year of duds and you were sucker enough to buy them, but...)
"Have you driven a Ford lately?"
(sure Bush pere had some bugs and Bush fils was a total lemon but Jeb is the real deal... honest! We wouldn't fool you 3 times, now would we?)
A better question is whether Obama will have challengers from his own party in the primary as Jimmy Carter did in 1980.
...he damn well SHOULD.
As far as I'm concerned, this is the message which the Democrats -- preferably the party as well as the voters -- should send Obama in 2012:
**********NO, YOU CAN'T**********
As in, "no...you can't govern this country effectively" -- and "no...you can't have a second term because you had your chance and you blew it."
Never trust anyone who insists that patriotism requires you to blindfold yourself with the flag.
are going to run for president. We need a primary and we need to put somebody in office who is going to work for the People and who will actually defend the Constitution. Obama has amply demostrated that he is interested in doing neither.
I'm for any combination of Sanders/Kucinich/Dean/Feingold/?? in 2012.
