Pat Buchanan on MSNBC during a break in their wall to wall Michael Jackson coverage fear mongering over the energy bill that just passed the House.

Witt: Why doesn't anyone want to call it a climate bill?

Buchanan: Well, because the science is suggesting that maybe all of this isn't really happening or it's not really dangerous or it's not really man made. Barack Obama, the President is right when he said we shouldn't be afraid of the future. That is how this bill got passed through fear. We're all going to change. The climate's going to change. The oceans are going to rise. Our cities are going to be under water.

But more and more scientists are coming forward to say this is a hoax and a scam which is designed to transfer wealth and power from the private sector to the government sector and from the government of the United States to a world government. Which is what we're going to get in Copenhagen when we get this Kyoto two agreement.

Witt: Okay, here come the emails.

Alex, no one believes you didn't fully expect Buchanan to say something outrageous before you and your producers allowed him on the air. Don't go whining after it's too late about getting nasty emails for doing it. Buchanan fails to specify, and Witt fails to ask him just who these scientists are.

Here is a list of elected people taking payoffs to cheat the American people and the amounts of bribes being taken. This is just from health care and insurance.
It is mind boggling to think how much these people are taking from others!
Arlen Specter (R-D- PA- $4,026,933)
Max Baucus (DLC- MT- $2,833,731)
Mitch McConnell (R-KY- $2,758,468)

And when you just go right to Big Insurance, the non-presidential candidates who got the biggest legalized bribes were the 7 senators who have been tasked with the job of killing single-payer:

Ben Nelson (DLC-NE- $1,196,799)
Max Baucus (DLC- MT- $1,184,113)
Joe Lieberman (DLC- CT- $1,036,302)
Arlen Specter (R-D- PA- $1,035,530)
Chuck Schumer (D-NY- $981,400)
Mitch McConnell (R-KY- $929,207)
Chuck Grassley (R-IA- $884,724)

We need to investigate and prosecute these criminals now. Severe jail terms are in order for these criminals!

This is just a few of these criminals. There are hundreds of them, all in our government and all doing whatever is best for them.
You did not think they went into government to help you did you?
They went into government because that is where the money is and for very little effort.
Any American not currently involved in government could and should replace the people that are there now. Do a BETTER Job, for 25% of the money these guys are getting.
It was never supposed to be like this. Washinghton said you should reluctantly serve and return to what you were doing before you served.
It was never supposed to be a lifetime job, with health care and reitrement. It was about all citizens stepping up running for the office in your district, getting elected and going to washington to represent the interests of you district. After you served your term you were supposed to go back home and continue your life.
What we have now is no better then the government in mexico. As someone said the other day on here. In mexico they call it bribes here they call it campaign contributions! If you are running for office in congress and it is half a state or even far less area in a lot of cases, and the msm was not part of the problem it would not cost millions of dollars to run for an office you were supposed to be in for two damn years ang go HOME!
This is insane! IT is not what it was supposed to be!
It does not now nore has it ever served us well for the operation of our government to be done by people that are doing it for a profit motive. They have taken something that was ment to be honorable, patriotic, and a duty for every citizen to acheive and preform, into an over blown dash for the cash at everyone elses expense.
We have lost what it was supposed to mean to be an American and have become America the greedy, America the self and not America the whole.
The preamble to the constitution says and I quote!

We the people of the united states in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for th common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Prosterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for The United States of America.

What we have now is an preversion into something that was never ment to be. We are on the track of the one or the few, and off the track of the Many.
republicanism is a mental illness!

republicanism is a mental illness!
NOT COVERED BY HEALTH INSURANCE.

If you want to talk about mental illness, then you must mention the enviro-nuts who predict disaster is just around the corner. No, it is not. Legislation like this is a scam and is nothing more than a power grab by government to get their hands on more of your wealth.

The Earth is not coming to an end, despite what the fear-mongering eco-nuts are saying. While I believe in religious freedom, these quasi-religious environmentalists are crossing the line by forcing their cult-like demands on the rest of us.

ENOUGH with the recycling and government control over our lives. ENOUGH!

Surely the world is coming to an end. It's in the bible.

Are you a scientist? From where do you get your information and what scientific experiments lead you to conclude that climate change is not a real, man-made problem?

>The Earth is not coming to an end,

NO ONE ever said "the earth is coming to an end" - that is a bogus straw man which you have constructed to make it sound like you are the sane one and every one else is crazy, when in fact it is the other way around.

The earth is fine. Its not going anywhere. The earth's environment can clean itself, in 2 or 3 million years, humans or not, and it won't even care one wit, its the earth, why should it care?

Its an environment which Humans CAN LIVE IN which is in danger of being destroyed.

It is human induced and all too real. Sadly though, with the likes of Buchanan and his fellow political naysayers constant yammering about nefarious power grabs and scientific misdirections our collective future is already written.

"The planet will be fine. It's the people that are (probably) screwed."

is screwed. The old greedy geezer doesn't care because he's a typical Reaganite who could give a damn less about America's future since HIS tomarrows are limited.

Denial of the facts when first presented with the evidence is one thing, it is smart to take the time to verify that evidence.

Denial of the facts after having had it shown to you repeatedly that your beliefs about the way things are is seriously flawed is a mental flaw.
To take the time to detail how you are mentally flawed in public is crazy.

Think about that.
And be sure to separate out your trash, don't want to be a total pig about the planet your grandchildren will live on do you?

was coming to an end except for the xian loons and their Rupture....

Earth as a viable habitat for humanity is coming to an end - or rather insofar as present population levels.

I'm sure that the mega-billionaires who are trashing our environment are grateful for opinions such as yours.

Not that you'll get anything out of it.

The earth will do just fine without the psychotic apes that call themselves humankind.

Oh - and you'd have to be blind to have missed the reports of increasing numbers of humans displaced by the rising seas.

Nevermind...Cheezis will save all of the good xians for helping His chosen billionaires.

Earth may not be coming to an end, but humans might be. Especially the remaining Neanderthals.

Not to mention the fool of an interviewer who manages to FAIL - to ask him (as Heather points out) WHICH SCIENTISTS are "coming forward" to say its not true? What a load of crap.

His scientists are all corporate and right wing think tank PhD's that are paid to write pseudo-scientific papers for the industries bankrolling them.

If he gave the names it would be far too easy to show this to be the case. These losers can't have that happen on the air or it would derail their efforts at newspeak.

"4 legs good, 2 legs better!"

So?

Most of the wealth in America is the hands of less than 5% of the population. And they've done a shitty job handling that wealth so fuck em.

"world government", the favorite tin foil nuts' conspiracy theory. This moron's target audience, the blind leads the blind. Go to Faux or get off the air!!

bill but will the public get involved or just say "whatever".

will lead to transfer of wealth to world govt's?
So that's the new talking point for the GOPers?
more fear mongering.

a look at nation's that have similar bills as laws, spells it out for everyone to see. Rich corporations like Halliburton, or Clean Coal, buy credits from other corporations that don't pollute, and thusly TADA!!! They don't pollute either! It's f'ing brillliant! From a corporate standpoint, they no longer pollute at all. And then they pass these credit costs off on the consumer/taxpayer as increased production costs beyond their control. What pollution? There's no pollution at all if you just wish it away. Pretty sure a rich tycoon that runs polluting corporations, can afford to shell some money at one of his buddies on paper, of another corporation.

The US energy industry is f*ing enormous. Most of it is dirty, so there's no way that coal or gas will be able to cut all their pollution through credits.

it hasn't happened either. But the Kyoto Protocols were a nice mess of papers made from killing trees! All hail the new green movement.

I am so sick of these Anti-American idiots on my TV. What do we need to do as a nation to be rid of these people who hate this country anyway! All Buchana wants is to allow the people who are currently getting the transfer of wealth from the middle class to keep getting their windfall.

Republicans, like Pat Buchanan, don't like anything that helps the middle and lower class people and as a nation we should be done with all of them!

Yes. They're tools in a complete sense of the word. Unfortunately, billionaires have a power grab complex that isn't going away.

These puppets may be anti-american in my view, but what more disturbing is the partisanship that plays into this particular debate. As we consider new way to bring about social and economic change, this bill can be looked at as the antithesis of positive results.

Again, these people are generally idiots, but their short-sided views won't make the facts go away. This bill stinks!

The NWO was created by these rats, so it's funny that such a bill would be a problem.

Repukes seem to live in eternal fear: fear of homosexuals, fear of terrorist, fear of their own gov't, fear of world gov't, fear of taxes.
What world gov't, where do they get this shit? And as mentioned above the world will not end, just human beings, of course that might be a good thing in some cases. I do not totally agree that humans have a lot to do with global warming and that it is a cyclical thing, but we seem to be excelerating it, so maybe we should pull back a bit. But repukes are always about sucking the system dry; I've got mine Jack, so the rest of you f-off.

.

it IS what we have now. The big money folks who run the international financial cabal are the ones who make all of the decisions. They're just letting us believe (for a while longer)
that we have some say in our government. Hah!

Oh go choke your chicken with your narrowminded fearmongering directed at lazy minded people who won't take the time to figure out FOX Noise and Bozos like Pat Buck-cannon is a bunch of corporate puppets making mega-bucks for their half-witted, small market bs propa-journalism aimed at fools and tards.

Where does all this wealth and power you people keep arguing over go now? I and the millions of commoners like me in the "private sector" who who work from paycheck to paycheck to produce what's left of any domestic GDP in this country sure as hell never see any of it.

Since those of you in that little walled community at the top of the food chain that keeps being referred to as the "private sector" when actually it's the "financial sector" to which over 20% of the GDP accrues... since you all refuse to share any flipping part of it with us and since your government obviously exists to serve only you and to hell with the rest of us... tell me why the hell we should care where it goes. We're not going to see any of it anyway.

I'm damned sick and tired of people arguing about who should get the most wealth and power when those of us who actually produce what what they're arguing over are continually left out of all the flipping "equations".

So tell me again what difference it should make to me whether some multi-billionaire corporate honchos take it and plunk it into some offshore tax shelter or whether it goes to some shadowy "world flipping government" that only you know exists? It's all the same to me... I'll never flipping see it again either way.

Just my little two cents worth minus of course, the 55% cut for the nobility.

Don't you all see what the republicans are really doing? We've all seen the price of fuel and energy skyrocket upward for the last 8 years. If the bill passes the senate the republicans are going tto blame the high cost of fuel and energy on the democrats. That's it in a nutshell folkss.

will be running for President on the "It's ALL Their Fault" platform.

...and like Reagan, Bush, never a solution, just complaints.

Alpha females always run the dog packs. Ask any Huskie.

We have the deny it all bunch, no matter what. We have the seriously xenophobic, and the ones that think there is a difference between the two parties. Should be fun!

as they sell us out.

I think that Bill Maher is right.

The Dems have moved to the center-right.

The Pukes have moved to the insane asylum.

.

One world government? Sheesh, that's an oldie (but apparently still a goodie). Can a resurgence of the John Birch Society be far behind?

Guess it's times to start dusting out the bomb shelter.

)O(

And now for something completely different:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7b4kBBW1yc&fe...

Buchanan is a hack. He still thinks Nixon is president and that believes in his heart that tomorrow is Wednesday.

With the amount he, his sister and his foundation is pouring out these days, I'm surprised he has time to come down the media's pedestrian level..

What a joke this bozo is....

)O(

Actually international trade deals, and outsourcing have more impact on the polity of nations, and republicans are all for these.

Without worldwide envrionmental standards what will happen is some will try to go green whereas others wont, cancelling each others efforts out, but giving the upper-hand in profitability to the one who refuses.

The only thing there is out there that fits that description are the multi-national corporations like Exxon, Halliburton, AIG, Carlyle Group, Goldman Sachs, etc., etc. And Buchanan has spent most of his life making sure that working peoples money ends up in their fat pockets.

Ha!

Who is The Bilderberg Group, for 800?

They're right there too.

)O(

Republicans are worse than monkies who fling their own poop; they want to wallow in them.

When Buchanan talks about "transfer of...power from the private sector to the government" he is not thinking of the political power of the vote that is granted to private citizens like you and me under the Constitution. I *wonder* just what sort of power he means? Perhaps the way he mentions wealth in the same breath is an indication?

Regardless, obviously there is no reason to take anything he says very seriously. This was all just a rancid leftover helping of fear, uncertainty, and doubt with a dash of New World Order apocalyptic fantasy thrown in for the nuts hunkered down in their bunkers because they love it so.

money to survive, they cannot be any kind of problem for the "haves."

And without health care, the "have nots" will be gone soon. The GOP has some long range plans.

The environmental disaster has already happened.

here's the link to his reasons (I copied from Abbywood's post on Mike's Blog)

http://www.clevelandleader.com/node/10478

His reasons are varied, but encompass the idea that this bill does in fact enrich the corporate creeps who are polluting the Earth, and will not do enough to alleviate some of the atmospheric problems we're creating. If we're going to take a real first step in trying to mend our ways and mend Mother Earth, this may not be the right one.

I happen to think that our climate is changing - I do not know, and I don't think anyone really knows - why. The Earth has changed many times over the millenia, and humans were not a factor. I'm not certain that we humans have the power to control the climate of our home planet.

However, I do think we need to change our ways with regard to exponentially expanding our population, polluting our environment, wasting precious resources, and using all of these things as excuses for continuing the shift of wealth and the resulting power/control to a class of people who have no interest in the welfare of the majority of the people in our country or on the planet.

I can't say if we're headed for a 'New World Order' - but it does appear that the Will of the People is way down on the list of priorities of those who currently run the world. Who in the US can say that our civil liberties and economic freedom have not been curtailed by the corporo-fascists who have thoroughly corrupted our government and are recklessly destroying the environment?

It seems to me that this bill, like the health care bills that will likely emerge from this Congress, are mightily flawed and may do us more harm than good in the long run.

Kucinich strikes me as part of the minority of congress that isn't corporate owned. #3 is most telling:

“3. It kicks the can down the road. By requiring the bulk of the emissions to be carried out in the long term and requiring few reductions in the short term, we are not only failing to take the action when it is needed to address rapid global warming, but we are assuming the long term targets will remain intact.”

We're kicking the can down the road on everything. From the war in Iraq, to covering the health costs of the uninsured, those items rely on unsustainable borrowing.

Then there's number 8

“8. Carbon markets can and will be manipulated using the same Wall Street sleights of hand that brought us the financial crisis.”

Forget about Pat Buchanan. Remember, a false dichotomy is a recurring feature of the corporate media. They're expecting us to say, if Pat doesn't like it, the bill must be ok. That's why we're not hearing from people like Nader and Kucinich. People might conclude that the bill is ok, but best not to do so because of what Buchanan says.

ditto ditto

carbon markets are a sham, a complete detour from actually going green so that money can be spun out of thin air like trading energy futures were purposefully constricted to jettison the price out of orbit causing massive, rolling blackouts across california at the turn of the millennium.

this is not the way to go, and i do not look forward to how this will be manipulated by the fat cats.

Don't worry Pat, there's nothing left to transfer to them. They already have all of it.

This dumb ass hole has been wrong on EVERYTHING he spews. Why even give the idiot air time. Jesus, WHY must we be exposed to such butt holes? They make no sense, especially this loser.

Poor Pat, he's finally gone off the rails.

I'm waiting for a call to arms to protect the good ole US of A from the Trilateral Commission and One World Government. Get the US out of the UN and the UN out of the US.

Buchanan is beginning to sound like Ferret Face.

I had a dream and god said you would be going to hell in a handbasket.

I would be worried if I were you.

This bill is a scam, its a tax on the people who least can afford it. And there are 2 sides to the argument of climate change from scientists, look it up and read it for yourselves instead of believing what the media is pushing on you. Obama sucks along with Bush no change.

No actually there isn't. Unless you think a debate between scientists also includes Creationism vs. Evolution... By a 99% margin, the scientific consensus is that manmade global climate change is happening. I'm sure you can find a handful of scientists who work for oil companies who will argue different, but they're in the same group as creation scientists employed by the Discovery Institute...

This is a bad bill. It's going to cost working families money and jobs. There is no doubt about climate change being real, but working class Americans cannot afford this bill.

and it will allow the worst polluters to keep on polluting without any incentive to change.

one promising green venture is a retrofit for companies to conserve energy by capitalizing on their wasted energy bi-product, recycling heat, water, steam, etc back into the company for energy and heating/cooling solutions lowering its overall consumption from the grid. i can't imagine what incentive they would have other than goodwill to retrofit if they can just trade away their bad practices at a lesser cost via carbon futures. plus, that would be one more green market tossed to the wayside.

Where was Pat for the past 8 years during the largest transfer of wealth and power in US history from the middle class to the wealthly?

The right wing WANTS a one world government- they want America to be the dominate force, dictating to all other nations how things will be...

The right doesn't fear a one world government- what they fear is the US not being to one in charge...

but it seems both democrats and republicans are working towards a one world government, or should i say, a one world market, hand in hand via the wto.

I don't know why but Heheheheheheh lolololol hahahahahhahahahahahhaha hahahahahhah heheheheehlololololololol
Buchanann really makes me laugh. This is such a serious subject but he brings tears of laughter to my eyes. What a funny old man.

Why does MSNBC insist on giving this right-wing conspiracy theorist so much time on the air? Every time I turn that channel on it seems like he's on there talking about stuff he has no knowledge of.

"But more and more scientists are coming forward to say this is a hoax and a scam which is designed to transfer wealth and power from the private sector to the government sector and from the government of the United States to a world government."

Read that line a few times. Seriously. He's suggesting that there are a group of scientists that have come forward to say climate change is a HOAX DESIGNED TO TRANSFER WEALTH FROM THE U.S. TO A WORLD GOVERNMENT.

This is Alex Jones-style, Conspiracy Theorist BULLSHIT. Why give this jackass time on the air? It makes no sense. He's fucking CRAZY!

MSNBC needs to drop this fucking jackass, he makes their whole network look like a bunch of idiots, fools, and conspiracy nuts.

GOLDMAN SACHS

http://greenlightadvisor.com/glablog/2009/06/...

Matt Taibbi.

Go to the bottom of his article. Goldman spent over 3 million last year lobbying for cap and trade. A potential trillion dollar a year market for Goldman, mandated by the government. One of the lobbyists was Mark Patterson, the current Treasury chief of staff.

The sad truth is, all this Green revolution is about, is saving our current way of living. Which amounts to, clearing nature out of the way and putting up some artificial structures to live in. No one really cares about saving the planet. We really don't even want to save the planets people. We just want all our stuff. Our buildings, our Starbucks, our Tv, and our Mobile towers. We say we want to help the planet because it sounds good, but we are unwilling to make any real changes to actually help

So when it comes to the planet, Earth has been here for billions of years, and it will be here a billion more. Whether we are on it is another story. And now the governments of the world(the same ones run by corporate money) want to help us save the planet.

The same assholes who wrote the book on destroying life, now want to tell us and legislate us on how to fix it. That's like Dick Cheney shooting his friend in the face and then his friend apologizes.

then treating the wound for him.

whatever the television tells me to do.

however, i would be getting ready for clean drinking water to be traded on wall street.

This climate bill is going to cost us. IT's going to raise gas and electric prices, which will raise the cost of manufacturing everything. Now is not the time. Nearly 10% unemployment, stagnent wages, the market still down, health care cost (and no public plan in site), taxes going up, taxing our health care benefits. Average American, especially low income cannot afford this. Hell, I can't afford it.

I hate to say this but this group of Democrats are as clueless as Buchanan

cap and trade. Mission accomplished. Yahoo.

It's going to cut jobs too. People without jobs can't pay mortgages, deepening the mortgage crunch, credit crunch. We need to look at the bigger picture here instead of pet issues.

I don't much like Buchanan and rarely agree with much of what he says, but the bottome line is that he's right on what this ultimately does...it redistributes wealth, while creating a higher tax on residents in coal producing states. Cap and trade isn't about climate change, it's about making money off more taxes. Google "Cap and trade" and read about it thoroughly.

It's a tax on business without using the word tax. This is not a good plan. IT is for the government, it brings in revenue. When a business is faced with higher operating cost they have a simple fix. Pass it on to the consumers or cut their work force. This is not a good plan.

This is why Democrats get the label of "Tax and Spend".

.........that conspiracy theories are acceptable now? New World Order, one world government, run by the Rothschilds who own the Federal Reserve System, and all that?

Just asking.

Sarcasm isn't a debating technique. redistribution of wealth is a little overboard but the fact is, this bill is not good for an economy already hurting. Even people who support this bill (people with jobs and money) do not deny the fact that this is going to cost both jobs and money. Lets also not forget that this is one country. It's not going to make a difference if countries like China and Russia are not doing it also.

You don't garden, do you? This is not a "pet issue." It is a huge and legitimate concern for all living creatures. Someone has to set some standards, so for now, screw China and Russia. They can catch up later, That said, this bill sucks, because it doesn't fix the problem. This is what you should be bitching about. There is a brand new big industry waiting to be born. Clean renewable energy. Jobs will come. How do you see cap and trade costing jobs and costing families money that they don't have? Can you give me some details, because I can give you some if you want them.

I'm still waiting for someone in the media - anyone - to explain to me what it is that qualifies Pat Buchanan of all people to discuss any of these issues, especially climate change. He's not a scientist; He's not even a politician: He's just a former Nixon flunky. So why is he on my teevee? I guess I'll have a long wait for the answer to that one, huh?

"They pass this and the world's coming to an end" - Your world Pat, maybe.

Give it a rest, willya, Pat? Everybody knows you're makin' this up as you go.

Man's definitely full of it.

a flannel bathrobe waiting to ambush children going by his house who look like they might be having some fun. Oh, yeah. And he should have a copy of the Washington Post in his hand.

That every still picture I see of Pat Buchanan always looks like he's just realized he's taken a dump in his pants? Unless, that's actually the case?

Don't kill the messenger because you don't like the message. There are scientists who agree with Pat:
"There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate." A state-by-state listing of the signers, which include 9,029 men and women with PhD degrees, a listing of their academic specialties, and a peer-reviewed summary of the science on this subject are available at www.petitionproject.org.
