Brit Hume Has a Snit Over Obama's Tax Plan "Squeezing the Rich"
By Heather Sunday Mar 01, 2009 3:00pm
Brit Hume was positively fuming over the Obama tax increases on this morning's Fox News Sunday. For once Juan Williams was actually the voice of reason.
Hume: Well it's just so dishonest because the top what, 2% of tax payers in this country pay something on the order of 40% of the taxes already. The top 5% pay 60% of the taxes already, income taxes. And the top 50% pay all but, you know they pay like 95% of the taxes. So most of the people in this country, most of the people pay almost, either no income taxes at all or almost none. That's like half the income brackets. So the idea that the playing field is somehow tilted in favor of the few is bosh!
And the idea that you're going to be able to squeeze out of the rich, who will move their money around and invest in such a way to avoid it as much as they can, this much money in tax receipts is crazy. There's only one way to get a big gusher of tax receipts out of the wealthy and everybody else and that is with an extraordinarily booming economy. And normally what happens is you get that when tax rates, which he proposes to allow to increase here go down. Not up.
Williams: Let me give you an alternative point of view. An alternative point of view is that 40% that you're talking about, those people earn about half of all the money that's earned in America. They're blessed to be in this country and to have the opportunity and why shouldn't they be responsible and pay their fair share of taxes?
After Williams makes some other good points about what type of things our tax dollars pay for Hume isn't quite finished with expressing his concern for the have-more's.
Hume: Juan we agree with that but remember this. The share of income taxes paid by the higher income people over the years has not gotten smaller under the Republicans. It's gotten larger. Why do you...
Williams: And why is that Brit? Because they're earning more money.
Hume: Well I know what Juan but the fact of the matter is that's what you want isn't it? Don't you want...I mean I often feel that people like Democrats and liberals would rather have everybody equally poor rather than unequally rich!
Yeah that's it Brit. You figured out the liberals' evil plan. We want all the rich people living in squalor and increasing tax rates for income above $250,000 a year is going to put them there. You know Brit we've had much higher tax rates in the past but I don't ever remember them making the rich people go away and suddenly turn into poor people.

Brit Hume Has a Shit Over Obama's Tax Plan "Squeezing the Rich."
Me needin glasses...
I didn't need that visual...lol.
But the semantic differences are so minute. Heather was just being polite.
and, funny thing is, I'm sure he did!
Poor Brit, always in a snit about something.
"Squeezing the Brit. Gives Hume the Sh!ts."

Thank you, I had seen that before.
War is a racket. The war profiteers are gangsters.

Major General Smedley Butler (1935): War Is A Racket
This is a great, great read that you or somebody else posted many moons ago.
Why the long face?
This panel is delusional if they think the budget will be stopped in congress.
No, it won't be stopped in Congress, but I have a feeling Obama is learning! I think he put those elimination of charitable tax donation deductions in there deliberately to give Congress something to make a fuss about, eventually take out, and claim a victory. That and a few of the other things. I'm really impressed by this guy.
Show me ONE wealthy American who has actually EARNED their wealth.
By WORKING.
By applying their labor to a natural resource to make a finished product.
99.9% of America's wealthiest people have NEVER done an honest day's work in their lives.
They have inherited wealth or gained it by financial manipulations or both, but they haven't EARNED a dime.
They should be taxed heavily, since the rest of us do the heavy lifting and they live off our efforts.
You know it.. As the axiom goes "Behind every great fortune lies a crime"
whose $$$$$$$$$$ comes from lying for the Oligarchs. They say people get the face they deserve..........
But trust Obama.
He has your interests at stake.
Do you have a better alternative?
is so out of touch with reality it's almost comical
While other poor schmucks are losing jobs that just got them by in life or losing their retirement funds to the stock market tanking. Out of touch to say the least. But that's Faux News.
played part of a Liberal Commercial pointing out how all the Repukes voted NO on the stimulus. Now Brit-Dear is reminding his viewers that ONLY the rich will be taxed.
Way to go, FOX.
This is the first time in my lifetime that I have seen a prez stand up to the wealthy like this. They ain't gonna like it and they have big friends in big places and I think the entire CNBC and Fox News channels are going to try to stop Obama.
But, man, I LOVE that Obama is sticking it to them like this and makin' them squirm.
30 years of trickle-down Reagonomics coming to an end, baby!!
But if Obama - and Americans - don't fight for this right now - we might as well sign the whole country over to them and pack up and leave OR resign ourselves to futures of nothing less then indentured servitude and/or debtor's prisons.
Because that's all that we'll have left. No health care; no homes; no jobs; no education for our children; endless wars with our children forced into the military just to get even a scrawny paycheck and shit health care; food and air that poisons us; infrastructure caving in around us; endless squeezing of every drop of blood from us - with nothing - nothing - left to care about or hope for. And global climate change on top of that. Talk about bleak.
*
What we need right now is for a widely played commercial of Bush's sound-bite declaring that "the rich don't pay taxes anyway"
That'd stop this nonsense dead in it's track.
*
did he really say that?
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/8/10/85654...
about it being time to buy stocks, I think in the aftermath of 911. Perhaps someone has that link. I can't find it on google
Repubs think the world was working spectacularly well as income inequality reached magical levels.
Greenspan at least partially figured out that maybe this was not the optimal way to run an economy. The rest of them haven't.
Cheers,
to watch all the talking heads pitch their personal greed and aversion to taxes as patriotism. What was that phrase from Lil' Abner? What's good for the General Bullshitter is good for the USA. Or something like that.
For once Juan was putting up a good argument, but Wallace had to cut him off. After all, it is his show.
OK Brit how about a flat tax? But instead of on income we set a flat tax on net worth.
my last job, I remember my three bosses sitting around, complaining about this tax plan. they all make well over $250k/year. so they were butt hurt and hoping nobody voted for Obama because he'd "ruin all of us". and the conversation segued into this sort of "survival of the fittest" nonsense.
and I totally bit my tongue, but I remember thinking -
hold on... we got a room with three obese, older-than-middle-aged, out of shape gasbags. represented by - pretty much themselves, no seriously large circle of friends.
surrounded by a business full of young 20- and 30-somethings, who bike to work and hike around on the weekends and work out and have hundreds of friends in similar shape, and at a similar "less than $250k/year" pay rate.
and I remember thinking - "guys, we *ARE* the fittest!"
so I say - well - fuck it. I'm pretty sure I could take Gates or Trump or Madoff in a fight, and I know I got a bigger army.
so - fuck em. take their damn money. =)
isn't at all nice to Gates. Sure, Windows sucks and we all *have* to use it, but he gives away billions, and is part of a group of mega rich dudes who think the Estate tax is a fair thing. You can stand in line behind Bill Gates at a movie and not know it's him. He works down the street from me, and I have never see him coming and going.
Madoff is a dirty low greedy mofoing thief and Trump is a self aggrandising attention whore.
He gives billions to Creationist propaganda. Fuck 'im.
so all the stories about the money going to education and AIDS research is a lie?
What's your source, big talker?
no need to strongarm him - my understanding is he agrees with the tax hike.
The hell we do. Mac OS X baby. Life is good.
P.S. I agree with you that Gates is the least of our problems.
Once you go Mac, you NEVER go back.............to vaporware and all the attendant misery of that antiquated corpse!
Somebody send that old Tory hag a crying towel.
until they yell MAMA!
They have had the last 8 years living high off the hog with no responsibilities whatsoever.
Hell, even their kids don't have to go have their lives ruined in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The days of "Only the little people pay taxes." are over.
"Most of the people pay almost, either no income taxes at all or almost none."
Hey Brit, I'll give you my "no income tax" bill each year! What a crock of sh-t! I am certainly not wealthy, but I have never seen a zero tax bill as he seems to think I'm paying.
In 1999, Donald Trump, proposed a once off 14.25% wealth tax on the net worth of individuals and trusts worth $10 million or more. Trump claimed that this would generate $5.7 trillion in new taxes, which could be used to eliminate the national debt.
You all forget who puts the money forth which jobs come from. The rich. Who gives you your raise, the rich. Who gives you your benefits, the rich. Now you want the government to do it for you?
Thats sick .
couldn't have become rich if it weren't off the backs of the worker. [Deleted-Sitemonitor]
Their tax burden will come right down the line to you and I.
They've got it, and they aint gonna give it up [Deleted-Sitemonitor]
[Deleted. Overshare. Way more than we care to know-Sitemonitor]
Thank you!
Overshare. That's a nice way of putting it. ; D
a very poor understanding of economics if you believe that is true.Investment capital comes from a huge array of sources not the least of which are pension funds accrued by workers right down to individuals who collateralize their home to start a new business. The rich are mainly concerned with getting richer and avoiding taxes.
Just imagine how much richer they could be if we were all serfs again.
Better yet, imagine how much better off they would be if we liberated them from their riches.
Thats how you really want it. Just come and take it away?
Stalinistic little child....
In tax policy. Sorry about your luck.
You'd better lobby hard for gun control, Thats why were buyin em up as fast as we can in Texas. Because of Socailistic Thievery
You seem to have a violent streak.
Socialist thievery!?!?
Oh brother!
gov is treason. I can see why. You have a very simplistic world view. That's what comes from living in Texas.
We'll just seceed from your liberal world and
live the good life. Thats why so many are flocking down here to work. Because you and your unions have ruined it up there. Not in Texas Baby!!!
You may want to brush up on the constitution, Einstein, and see what the Patriot Act has to say about your threat to terrorise people who drive past your home.
Maybe you are happy about getting trickled on, but those who earn more deserve to pay more (by the way, I earn plenty, and I don't mind paying more).
Brit has his numbers wrong anyway - he's only talking about income tax. The working poor pay plenty of payroll taxes and sales tax.
I presume you mean you are planning to "secede" from the "liberal world"?
Pray tell, to which world are you planning on going?
.
I should have known that.
Thanks.
seem to be comfortable there.
Hee hee.
"Confederation of American Talibani"
And I'm neither rich nor poor in a VERY expensive place to live.
Thank Gad for unions - GO EMPLOYEE FREE CHOICE ACT
I bought shares in a certain American gun manufacturer. They're doing quite well. It's like taking candy (and money) from a whole bunch of really whiny babies.
Waa? Are y'all buying up automatic assault weapons or something?
I don't own a gun. I don't mind making money off the pinheads who think Armageddon is coming however.
A telecaster !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Socialist thievery?!?!
You mean Corporate Welfare.
creep.
BTW, your shitty side lost. Deal.
Be careful what you wish for.
and proud of it!
Oh, and you guys lost! Ha Ha!
Whine on you fascist pig!
I've owned my small business since 1991 and I've never given anyone a job because I had more or less money.
When I offer someone a job it's in response to the demands of a healthy economy. If I can't meet the demand for the services my company offers then someone else will and that "demand" will migrate to my competition.
They could cut my taxes to zero and I wouldn't hire anyone if the demand for my services doesn't support hiring another employee.
To believe that the rich somehow miraculously create jobs is naive.
that he doesn't really do any research of his own, but repeats the days talking points as he taps his foot in a stall in some restroom in some airport, all the while stroking his gun.
Only fools believe that wealthy people create jobs other than for gardeners, nannies, pool cleaners, etc.
that shows how fucking stupid you are? That's weird.
Who makes money off my back and yours? The Rich. Who won't give us a raise if they don't feel like it? The rich. Who refuses to give you and me access to Universal Health Care? The rich.
Now piss off, you little nitwit.
why you think anything he said is objectionable. I too am an engineer and have owned my own business since 1985 and he's got this exactly right. I hire in response to economic conditions and I often keep people employed longer than justified because it is such a pain to train new people. I am very thankful for the government program we have to split wages for new employees while they are training. It's a big help. In case you are wondering I am far from rich.
tod con. Read upthread. My answer mocks his post. If I were answering to the engineer above my comment, it would have been indented, on the left, not in line with.
I thought you'd been around here long enough to figure that stuff out.
I hope that clears shit up for you.
My bad
I'd answer a perfectly reasonable post with a loads of shite talk.
No prob BTW.
I actually have a new pair of reading glasses on order. I'm seeing indents where none exist.
I can tell you, in no uncertain terms that no one gives labor anything. All raises, benefits are bargained for and sometimes are the result of a strike which results in the strikers making back (over a 3 year contract) about the amount they lost during the strike. So, my republican friend, you really shouldn't talk with out fully informing yourself of the facts. It makes you look either stupid or dishonest. Or both. After all we've just gotten rid of one moron in the WH. Say hello to the trolls at AEI!
A return to sanity is a liability for folks in the MSM, and near death for FOX media. The MSM will not return to sanity on it's own. They will need encouragement before they will serve the public interest once again.
It's a partnership. Both are millionaires. When they get squeezed, we take it harder. I'd be carefull what we wish for. I agree the rich can easily afford to pay a fairer share of the tax pain, but the reality is easy to see. If there is an increase in their pain, there will be an even bigger increase in their employees pain.
Like it or not, without them, there are no jobs. Forcing them to pay more, is like forcing democracy on people. It won't work. The last recession resulted in hardly any income for all our workers. I'm sure their income was less too, but our pain was way higher than theirs.
They are just repealing a short period of irresponsible tax breaks. Getting things back together after the Bush storm. The two millionaires will get by.
And with less income, they will "restructure" to keep their income levels the same. That is what the rich do. Restructuring means job losses. I don't know the answer, other than the greedy motherf*ckers should volunteer to pay more, but I know they won't.
i thought you guys have no rich people...for you live under an evil socialist system
why do you care what is going on with the tax structure in america?
Like I've said Joe, everything your government does, ours does too. You would almost think all these government leaders get together and agree to do the same things. Naw, not possible.
Two words: American ownership.
America owns most of Canada, lock, stock and two smoking barrels.
if they do own it would you mind telling them to bump up the universal health care a little. The baby boomers are getting old.
If "restructuring" will make the rich more money, they will do it right now.
They will do it in a recession. They will do it in a boom. They will do it after a tax cut. They will do it after a tax increase. They will do it on a plane. They will do it on a train.
The rich maximize their profit 100% of the time. Legislation won't stop them.
why is it that i am sure that answer is no
i have wealthy customers
high taxes or not, they never miss an opportunity to try and get me to lower my bills
its like i dont have rent or have to eat...i am just there to serve them
so fuck em
eat the rich
Even received bonus cheques. But I have seen lean times in my company and I know what is coming. There is a reason they are rich and being rich, they don't need to keep their employees working. They have enough to retire. As a matter of fact, a few years ago, when unions were running around, they stated "go unionized and we close". And it wasn't just a threat. They would close.
i feel bad for you
i worked for a dick for 6 years
helped him build his biz
while he would take trips to europe, i would run the company...never taking vacations
then he discovered that he could hire a guy needing a green card for half my pay and no benefits
and out on my ass i went
learned a very good lesson....fuck the bosses
Someone would see the gap, pander to unions, and a new business would be born.
Ya, we don't want those kind of guys owning our businesses.
at the knees of repugs. Get some self-respect, if they are your only job hope then you are pathetic.
Brit Hume, Fox News and all the freakin wingnut idiots never stop whining and talking complete BS.. It was their FAILED conservative agenda that got us in this mess with tax breaks for the rich $$$ and destroying the middle class by outsourcing millions of decent jobs, breaking unions, etc.
The Wingnuts worship the god of Power and Greed and the Liberals believe in helping everyone in need. Where is your conscience these days? watch video below...
http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=...
They outsource because of the out-ragous wages they pay. You don't see the people at the Nissan plant complaining.......Their happy they got a job, not knocking the price of a car up so you and I can't afford. The Unions are the Mob Bosses gettin rich
they outsource to increase profits...which they do not pass onto the consumer
and studies continue to show that outsourcing doesnt really save all that much, thanks to lack of good customer care
You really are full of shit.
No I am saying they are not in trouble like the others and their plant is in Georgia........
should check your facts. All the Japanese manufacturers are in serious trouble themselves. Their sales are dropping as fast as anyone and while they might have deeper pockets they're going to be in the same boat as the big three in short order.
why bother? if he wants to whiff brit hume's $#!+ fumes, let him be.
and their weekends, safety regs, no child labour, benefits, 40 hour work weeks, that must really piss of two type of people:
1) Your pals, 'The Rich,' and
2) Morons who argue against their own self interest.
People at the Nissan plant ARE complaining because the price of gas was and will be again $4 and up a gallon, food costs and housing tripled under greedy Conservative rule. where the hell have you been living the last 8 years? and why are you so jealous of an American worker making a decent living?
Maybe they should unionize?
Whoops, then their job would be shipped back to East Bunglefuck, I guess.
The wages the UAW bargained for greatly influence what the non-union companies pay.
Get too far apart and guess what happens?
Of course some states rig the playing field with right to work laws, lax H&S enforcement and taxpayer paid subsidies.
As more and more companies pay less than a living wage, eventually there isn't anyone to by your product.
I think we're approaching that critical mass now.
Wealth transfer baby, milk those workers gains till the cow runs dry.
because every time they use these stats, they make sure to include corporations, not just individual tax payers
part of the stimulus plan includes incentives, which will lower corporate tax rates
those incentives include reinvestment and hiring
in other words, they pay less when they do more
that is fair
Unless your want to be their serfs about all you can do is at the end of the night honestly ask yourself, okay where did I fail, what are my faults, where did I screw up. Who won today?
Goin to put up My Big American Flag just tp piss of Liberals and I'm gonna sit outside with my Semi Auto and for watch for little "green" box cars to drive by.
Call the sheriff!
how 'bout a nice little visit from the FBI?
That's domestic terrorism, Einstein, and against the Patriot Act, which you no doubt foolishly support.
They have his address.
LOL. Ahaha, I actually don't get mad when i see the flag flying, don't know what he's thinking. Rush Limball sickness.
I don't even know what that means but it sounds like you are a phoney 'something' to me, as opposed to a concerned citizen of any political affiliation.
which I proudly fly every day, weather permitting.
I bought it Jan.20th, 2009. It was made in the U.S.A. by union workers.
One question -- is it hard for you to type one-handed?
tod con: "...and for watch for little "green" box cars to drive by."
Anyone want to parse this for me?
Tod, you shouldn't have difficulty anticipating where the box cars will be. They should be on rail road tracks, and considering they are not self-propelled, I don't know what would make one "green".
Talk about living in the past:
http://cgi.ebay.com/LIONEL-6-39241-PENN-CENTR...
The Penn Central has been gone for over 30 years.
Has anyone told him Texas joined the union?
Careful. It might break his lil ole heart.
about where he's getting his supply of "piss of liberals". Same place as his "eye of newt" I suppose.
the Prius, one of which I own. I'm secure in my manhood enough to get good gas mileage and lower emissions, as opposed to the pissant hillbilly tod con with the small little pecker who probably drives a Hummer.
Site moderator, please note that tod con is implying domestic terrorism. Should he be reported?
broadcast journalists suddenly become experts in everything from the intricacies of complex financial systems?
It's a freaking joke
Exactly, and they never consult with the real experts because they loose ratings every time they do. Why else would they play dumb about Bushconomics and the Bush Depression. Greedy TV journalist bastages won't play fair with us.
sorry Evet, i didnt read your post before i posted mine below.
Obama’s unpaid debt to George W. Bush — Richard Perle
The Malaysian Insider - Feb 27, 2009
w/o a link.
The same rich who employ every arrow in their arsenal to keep wages low, contribute to the deterioration of company-based medical benefits, and disproportionally use federal, state and local infrastructure to generate profits? Of course, Brit's way only increases the income divide of the haves and have-nots. Brit Hume is an a-hole.
First, from the NYT coverage of the Obama budget comes this interesting line: "In 1980, the richest 1% of Americans claimed 10% of all national income. In 2004, they claimed more than twice as much -- 22%. In 1980 the top rate was 70% as opposed to the current 36%." And it's apparent Hume either hasn't read David Cay Johnston's book "Perfectly Legal" (which REALLY spells out in easy to read charts has much the pre and post-tax income of the uber wealthy has risen in the past couple of decades). But you can usually count on Fox News pundits to reinforce the memes that the echo machine is drilling into the tiny brains of the GOP faithful.
Yep, I think the first thing to understand about Hume's, Wallace's, and even Liason's arguments is that they are total bullshit constructions. Top tax rates are way lower than in the 50's and 60's and why should "capital gains" tax be treated differently than any other kind of income?
Since when does an Anchorman know shit? thats all FOX news does is parade the same old tired ass news anchor from one show to the next. who else in their right mind would even bother going on their shows with a differance of opinion? no one, FOX and FOX viewers dont want to hear any facts or even a differant opinion. the way these people see it, if its raining where they are it must be raining where you are.
I don't know where that twit comes from but I just did my taxes and guess what I have to pay taxes and I don't make a whole lot. I probably pay more than Bush. I am so tired of the republicans whinning about the rich having to pay their share. What is wrong with them paying for the services they use. When people pay taxes it helps to keep this country running. We are falling apart what will happen when the next bridge falls, the next water line breaks where do they think the money comes from to fix these things. It sure does not fall out of the sky. The taxes that we pay, pay for these things. I live in Washington State, and the people of Oregon have a card that states they are Oregon residents and don't have to pay Washington State sales tax. The state would like to change that but the people of Oregon are crying about paying our sales tax, but guess what they drive on our roads, use our utilities and they are whinning about having to pay our sales tax. On a $20 purchase they would pay $1.60 in taxes. So cry me a river and get over it. It is time everyone paid their share.
Let me be perfectly clear here. Hume says, "There's only one way to get a big gusher of tax receipts out of the wealthy and everybody else and that is with an extraordinarily booming economy." Many of the Bush years were an "extraordinarily booming economy" as Hume calls it. It was a false boom or a boom created out of fraud but it was a boom none the less. Having said that, why then was Bush and his Republican Congress running huge deficits to the tune of the biggest debt in the history of the world (that is no exaggeration)? What Hume said is what the Republicans would have you believe but history has proved them wrong.
On a side note, I wonder if he will ever have Katrina vanden Heuvel on his panel?
Hume should just shut the fuck up. President Obama is simply raising the top tax rate to what it was in the 1990's under Clinton, 36 percent.
He's not raising it to 70 percent or anything like that.
Also don't NOT FORGET, as Rahm Emanuel pointed out, that the tax level for these mega rich sons of bitches is only going back to the Clinton level and/or the Reagan years. What are these asshole complaining about. I guess that they have to make up the millions of $$$ they lost to Bernie Madoff.
Hume: "The idea that the playing field is somehow tilted in favor of the few is bosh!"
Here's the REALITY: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woIkIph5xcU
Now please take your personal stack of bills, and shove them where the sun doesn't shine, "Brit".
In 1980, pre Reagan Rape, the top 1% owned 9% of the nation's total wealth. They weren't exactly hurting back then. Now they own 20%.
Now EVERYBODY but them is hurting.
This is why I refer to Republicans as "Banana Republicans". Because that kind of wealth gap, those kinds of ratios, only exist in so-called "banana republics". Little Third World countries where the mass of people get fucked, while a select few sit in obnoxious luxury.
It's not a recipe for freedom. It's a recipe for disasterous dictatorship. It's anti-American.
So tell me "Brit", why do you hate America? Do you just love your money more than your country, is that it?
Why they call it the 'L' curve I don't know.
In school we called that the perpendicular of the plane.
Notice also, virtually all your leading pols are plucked from the vertical line.
Tell me again how there is no class structure and everyone is created equal.
It's bedtime and I need a story, here, I'll even get you started.
Once upon a time...
And I haven't even gotten to corporate taxes yet, which is where the REAL problem lies. Full HALF the Fortune 500 companies pay NO TAX despite profiting off of the freedom in this country.
This is why Jefferson said:
"I hope that we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our monied corporations, which dare already to challenge our government to a trial by strength and to bid defiance to the laws of our country."
And why F.D.R. said:
"It was natural and perhaps human that the privileged princes of these new economic dynasties, thirsting for power, reached out for control over government itself. They created a new despotism and wrapped it in the robes of legal sanction. In its service new mercenaries sought to regiment the people, their labor, and their property.... The hours men and women worked, the wages they received, the conditions of their labor — these had passed beyond the control of the people, and were imposed by this new industrial dictatorship. The savings of the average family, the capital of the small-businessmen, the investments set aside for old age — other people's money — these were tools which the new economic royalty used to dig itself in. Those who tilled the soil no longer reaped the rewards which were their right. The small measure of their gains was decreed by men in distant cities. Throughout the nation, opportunity was limited by monopoly. Individual initiative was crushed in the cogs of a great machine. The field open for free business was more and more restricted. Private enterprise, indeed, became too private. It became PRIVILEGED enterprise, not free enterprise."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-1zzswys5I
But I digress ....
This is the President acting on the will of the people as he is required since he was elected with a mandate to do so.
Stuff it bozo.

I am so...friggin...tired of these truly rich pricks complaining about their taxes. You want to be tax free, move to Dubai!
We live in a great country here, but to subsidize some of the great things we have here we need to pay taxes. Now, for those who are making over $250,000 a year, their taxes will move from the 35% bracket to the 39% bracket -- 4 points.
The complain I tend to hear is that 4 points is considerable. Well, sure, it is if you're making $1,000,000. But if you're making that kind of money you should feel pretty lucky you're in a country where you can do so.
Furthermore, unless you're living way beyond your means, you should be able to get by pretty comfortably on $250,000 and more (I live in NY and, quite honestly, $250,000 goes a long way no matter what anyone says). As well, if you've got a good accountant, you might be incorporated or have some good write-offs (I do, as a business), so that 4% will very likely be more like 2%.
Now - you've got a country in hard times here. If you are not willing to contribute 2% of your generous income to helping us get out of our situation given all that this country has done for you, you can go straight to hell as far as I'm concerned. My wife and I make a combined $200,000 a year, and I'm quite comfortable on what I get by on after taxes. No, I'm not flying to Gstaad every weekend to ski, but that's not what's really important in life anyway.
I'm so tired of these people complaining about their taxes. Suck it up and help your damn country, traitors. There are things larger than your own personal needs at stake here - and there always will be.
that would be great, he is such a Bush methane breathing tool.
Good on ya!
:)
I live in a reeeeeeeeeeeed area of a reeeeeeeeeeeeeed state and the most vocal supporters of Bush still, no kidding - W, still the president is on the backs of so many cars here, Rush, Brit and the rest are all so far below 250 it is laughable. There is nothing more frustrating than someone who has been completely fooled into believing that it's unAmerican to "tax the rich" as they struggle to get by...you know, like the folks at Mercedes who have been told how evil the unions are...and how grateful they should be for their 30 hour shift, and how Mercedes deserved the hundred million dollar tax BREAK...
Hume's makes the statement that "if" Obama raises taxes on the wealthy. They will move their money around to avoid paying taxes.
Britt, Isn't that what wealthy people are doing already ?
Middle class pay has not risen with productivity. Downsizing to where the guy left with the job has to do all the jobs of those lwt go. Without any increase in pay.
We're not even talking exploitation of workers, third world countries, Illegal mexican workers in this country to drive down wages so that Hume and his ilk can get even more money.
And to think of the money that controls our Gov't? Lobbyists that over-ride the vote or the people. So who does really like America Brit?
You republicans yearn for the good ole days of the great depression that the wealthy can be gifted with power of life and death over their slaves.
Brit, Aren't your familiar with the word "Greedy"?
I pour person can never give you a job. If we make everyone average, we will become an average country. It takes great individuals to make a great county.
Now you know why I have, for years, called him Snit Fume.
The people in the top 5% do pay 50% of the taxes. But that's because they make a shitload of money. NOT BECAUSE THEY'RE PAYING HIGHER RATES THAN THE MIDDLE CLASS.
I wish Williams had driven home the point that point. OF COURSE, someone who grosses a billion dollars is going to pay $200 million in taxes, and that's like millions of average folks combined. But it's still only 20% on their income. And most don't even pay that.
Warren Buffet paid 17% while his average workers payed over 30%. Is that unfair to Buffet? Is he being "squeezed"?
The person who pays $200 Million in taxes drives on the same roads as the person who pays no taxes. How is that fair to the person who pays the $200 Million?
I am so sick of listening to these overpaid, incredibly dimwitted talking heads shooting their fool mouths off! Brit Hume is nothing more than a overpaid lackey for the conservative rich--he's an arrogant prick whose only mission in life is to spread the rightwing manifesto of greed and priviledge.
Taxing the wealthiest in this country DOES work, and history has proven that. History also reveals that conservatives are anything but--it took from 1776 to 1980, or 204 years, for this country to rack up it's first trillion in debt. It took Reagan & Bush the elder 12 years to double that. Then Clinton raised taxes on the wealthiest in this country and erased that debt, leaving office with a surplus. Enter that national disgrace Bush the lessor, and tax cuts for the rich. Within 8 years he not only destroyed Clintons surplus, but put us in the hole to the tune of at least 4 trillion! (no one really knows yet what his illegial war will ultimately cost in dollars--best minds say 3 tril. +)
It's obvious who are the best stewards of our treasures, and who are the worst.
This notion that Obama is "squeezing the rich" is an insult to ordinary people like myself and the other 95% of Americans like me. I'd like to have them feel the squeeze I deal with every-f'ing-day!
These parasites need to pony up & pay their fair share, as do these so-called American businesses that shelter their fortunes through schemes & legal loopholes. Enough with the bullshit, already!
Clinton didn't "erase that debt" racked up by his predecessors. He erased the *deficit* and *began* to pay down the debt marginally until Bush Jr. came to office. Also, he was able to do what he did by raising taxes on the wealthy and capital gains, yes, but also by cutting entitlement programs and by reaping the rewards of the late 1990s tech stock bubble. No question, however, that over the last quarter century democrats have been more fiscally responsible than republicans. My idea for reducing gov spending--slash the defense budget, cancel expensive outdated weapons programs and close hundreds of U.S. military bases overseas.
Thanks for the correction, and of course, you're right.
Also, I agree wholeheartedly with your notion of cutting some, if not most, of the major fat out of defense spending. I'm quite sure it would boggle the mind if the true numbers, i.e, the actual dollars being spent on so many needless programs, were readily available to us lowly "civilians". Think of the surplus revenue which would become available. Unfortunately, the right feels it much wiser to gut much-needed social programs than to discontinue any military expenditures...unfortunate & sad.
One more thought re: the difference between Democrats & Republicans. I've become convinced that, by a large percentage, Democrats are much easier on the eyes. One has to wonder if perhaps Fox Muldaur wasn't on to something in his belief that aliens are cross-breeding with humans--one merely has to look at all the ghouls calling themselves Republicans, or to contemplate the absurdities they are wont to speak, to arrive at my suspician.
Instead of complaining about the wealthy, get off your ass and become one. You may end up with a different view.
I love that stat about "X% of the population pays over Y% of the taxes"... it neatly avoids the question of what percentage of all income that this X% earns.
The Republicans LOST THE ELECTION... they also LOST seats in Congress... they will continue to LOSE as long as they position themselves as the saviors of the rich from the poor. The poor no longer believe in the benevolence of the rich... We realized that trickle-down was piss landing on us, not rain, a long time ago.
This is exactly what this corporate piece of pig shit said on the day that the terrorists blew up sub-way trains in London a few years ago .. yes, this Zarathustra piece of shit actually said those words after viewing the destruction from the safety of it's corporate studios that shield it from the real world ...
