John Boehner with more complaints about those republican sprinkles or crumbs or what ever the hell he calls them in the health care bill. I'm sure at this point if the Democrats had allowed the Republicans to just write the entire bill, they still would be voting against it.
CROWLEY: They look as though -- they certainly have the numbers to pass this -- the Democrats.
BOEHNER: Really? Listen, they've got 40 more Democrats in the House than they have Republicans. They've got, you know, 59 -- or they've got 19 more Democrats in the Senate of -- or 18 than they have Republicans. And they can pass this all on their own. The only bipartisanship that's involved in this town right now on -- with regard to health care, is there is bipartisan opposition to what they're attempting to do.
CROWLEY: You don't -- but, do you think -- because you're a pretty good vote counter -- does she have 216, the speaker?
BOEHNER: If she had 216 votes, this bill would be long gone. And remember, they tried to do this in June and July last year. If they had the votes, then it would be law. They tried to pass it in September, October, November, December, January, February. Guess what? They don't have the votes.
The American people don't want to take the step toward government run health insurance. It's a dangerous step, because we do have the best health care system in the world.
CROWLEY: I want to point out that the Democrats clearly have argued and will argue that it's not a government run program. That if you like your insurance, you can keep your insurance.
BOEHNER: Well, that's not true, though.
CROWLEY: Well--
(CROSSTALK)
BOEHNER: It's one of those things that keeps being said, but it's not true, and here's why. First, if -- with the employer mandate, some employer is going to look at this, at the penalty and say, you know I spent a lot more than that providing health care to my employees. And so I'm going to drop it. Forcing -- force-- (CROSSTALK)
CROWLEY: But they'll have a menu of choices to pick out.
(CROSSTALK)
BOEHNER: Forcing you then to go to the health exchange.
CROWLEY: Sure.
BOEHNER: And -- and so, you can't keep it.
CROWLEY: But they will have a menu of choices the way this is set out. Three or four in this exchange where people can look at and then pick something from that. Would you -- you agree with that?
BOEHNER: A government run exchange. That the expectation is you'll have three or four plans as designed by the federal government.
CROWLEY: What's the Republican role now on the House side? What is there left for you all to do?
BOEHNER: I'm doing everything I can to prevent this bill from becoming law. Plain and simple. We have offered our ideas.
CROWLEY: And what do you do?
BOEHNER: We've asked the president to sit down and work with us.
They have refused all the way through the process. And--
CROWLEY: You had the summit.
BOEHNER: Oh, they had the summit. We offered our ideas.
CROWLEY: And he incorporated some, did he not?
BOEHNER: That -- and -- and took a couple of Republican bread crumbs and put them on top of their 2,700 page bill. That's not good enough. And so while -- what I'm doing is working with my colleagues to keep the American people engaged in this fight.
I don't have enough votes on my side of the aisle to stop the bill.
But I, along with a majority of the American people who are opposed to this, can stop this bill. And we're going to do everything we can to make it difficult for them, if not impossible to pass the bill.

the GOP DOESNT CARE anything about Health care/insurance reform. they dont and they never will. tort reform, please, thats not going to help the millions of people who cant afford health insurance right now. and dont forget tax cuts for the rich and big business who dont need it. the GOP really is shameless. say NO to everything Obama and the Dems are doing and hope to get electoral success by doing just that. not offering any solutions that will help todays modern issues, just say NO to everything the Dems do. they really are pathetic.

THE END!
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
This stumps even the Republican if you ask them to list 15 bill that George Bush have accomplish for the welfare of the people?
Then I usually ask just for one bill, and I still don't get an answer.
George H W Bush passed the American Disabilities Act.
Even H.W. couldn't say no to the disabled, although I'm sure W. would have.
But I was thinking more along the lines of economic matters that apply to everyone.
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
obvious:...
fwiw..it has been my opinion that the rightwankers have been so ungodly jealous that not only did a Democrat win the Presidency...but the man is black, AND talks to the American public like they (the American public) are ADULTS and hasn't had to resort to the frat-boy squinting/joking/frat-boy behavior..and sound-bytes...and bumper-sticker lingo....
(although they would come back and say the 'Yes we can' could be considered a sound byte and bumper-sticker lingo...)
They really need to grow up.
I live in Texas where we had tort reform foisted off on us as a "free market" cure all by the Perry run state lege. In the 6 years since this magical reform took effect, we have been blessed with double digit increases for insurance premiums each year. No end in sight. Many people who have access to employer offered insurance just can't afford it anymore.
should tell OverTanned that checkered pink and baby blue polka dots are a fashion faux pas, especially with the bright orange skin tone.
...why is my Gaydar blaring like a broken car alarm?
You don't need gaydar for bonar
While I am no fan of the weak watered-down scrap of a bill we're about to get (if there is no public option, it's not reform), I am fed up and sick of hearing overzealous conservatives rabidly cheerleading America's greatness on one hand while expressing nothing but disgust, contempt and disdain for it's government on the other.
Even more than a decent health care system,is a cure for republicans.
I hate to break it to you,but you've got republicans.
"To me, truth is not some vague, foggy notion. Truth is real. And,

A year?

the only cure is irradiation.
lobotomy.
they already had that procedure. didn't take.
What if you just sow there butts shut so they can't talk anymore?
Not to cause alarm, or anything, but I am contemplating a quick and painless demise, since I can't afford health care and I have
--tinnitus
--carpal tunnel in my dominant hand
--a back injury that causes constant pain
--arthritis in both hips and one knee
--a broken molar
--a molar missing a massive filling
and, I can't make ends meet despite holding three jobs. All this in the 'greatest nation on earth.' Oh, and, I count myself lucky to even HAVE three jobs, since I'm over 50.
But, if the there is, it's still not reform. Anything that allows the continued existence of health insurance companies, allows the continuation of Pharma dictating its own usurious pricing, allows the continuation of for profit HMO's and hospitals cannot be considered reform. Even allowing the profit motive to exist in healthcare delivery undermines/negates reform.
This isn't reform, it's another privatization scam, with a new twist: compulsory participation.
is a big fat liar.
Saying that the U.S. has, "the best healthcare system in the world!" when he knows full well that we rank at 37!!!, shows what a disingenuous stooge he his for his rotten "We've got ours, so fuck you!" Republican Party.
At least the Democrats admit that the system sucks the way it is now. They at least admit that it's not working for ordinary Americans (who by the way have already been working our asses off and have been dutifully paying our TAXES over the years....). In my way of thinking, WE'VE ALREADY PAID FOR A GREAT HEALTHCARE SYSTEM....THE MONEY IS JUST BEING DIVERTED TO THE MILITARY INDUSTRIAL/INTELLIGENCE COMPLEX INSTEAD!!!!!
Why is it that the MIIC and the insurance CARTELS are such SACRED COWS in this country??
Too bad the Democrats decided that the best way to "fix" this mess is to crawl even deeper under the covers with the very FOR-PROFIT insurance corporations that have created this mess in the first place!!!
Unfortunately, the Democrats who are currently "in charge" in D.C. have been bought and paid for by corporate America.
Had the Democrats and Obama TRULY cared about the state of our economy and the health and very lives of the American People, they would have launched a plan similar to what is currently working in Canada, Germany, France, Great Britain, Japan and other industrialized nations.
Sadly, they were unable to stand up to their corporate masters and tell them, "you can play in the system, only you'll have to become NON-PROFITS and tell your Wall Street stockholders buh-bye".
Based on all the research I have done over the past year, I believe the bill the Democrats are so DESPERATELY trying to pass is truly despotic and will prove to be nothing more than a bailout for the insurance corporations, big pharma, major hospital chains etc. with average Americans being held hostage every month with threats from the I.R.S. to pay for it all.
Just read this post a friend of mine wrote. She's been living under the Mass Plan and she has studied the bills in detail:
http://comments.realclearpolitics.com/read/42...
Think about it. How can it be acceptable to force the American people who cannot afford the "premium" from the "exchange" to instead pay the fine and STILL END UP WITHOUT HEALTHCARE INSURANCE???? If this isn't despotism, what would you call it??
The Democratic Party and Obama should be ashamed for trying to hoist such a rotten piece of legislation upon the backs of the American People.
"The US has an army of 90,000 soldiers in Afghanistan and is spending $100bn a year, but has still been unable to defeat 20,000-25,000 Taliban who receive no pay at all." - Patrick Cockburn
they just seize your bank accounts. Imagine protesting the mandate just to have your money siezed by the IRS.
If one more Republican starts a sentence with, "The American people want..." I'll go postal.
You and the rest of the party of no, are NOT speaking for me !!!
My husband said almost exactly that same thing this weekend while watching and listening to republicans.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
the American people want, when they won't get their heads out of their butts long enough to listen. Being the elite Beltway denizens they are, they never have contact with REAL Americans. And besides, they've got their "best healthcare in the world", funded by YOU AND ME! Why don't you STFU, Boner.....and take your mutant color face off the TeeVee. And, BTW, you need a dresser.

The Republican has nothing.
The Republican will always have lies. Lies are powerful stuff.
The Republican depends on lies because he has nothing to offer. In the process the Republican disqualifies her/himself as an honest representative of the people. The people [and MSM] just need to come to terms with this development.
Hey wolf! You want to talk to Republicans do you? In the Situation Room? How about discussing the Republican lies and cheating, and the implosion of the Republican party?
We all have a ton of footage of Republicans lying and shirking responsibility. What a video collage we could create. High ranking Republicans have even engaged in what could be described as war crimes and profiteering. the Republicans have become a destructive force. Can we talk about that in your "situation room"?
That would be current, accurate, and crucial to America's future too.

Or rather, we have the *37th* best healthcare system in the world ...
.
I can see the slogan: "America's Healthcare: At least we're not the worst".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Life_expect...
At least we spend the most...
Also, the kicker is that any time an argument is raised pointing out this "overall 37th" rating, some jackass has to call the WHO and the UN "fringe far left groups", as if only promise-keepers and texas militia are "real Americans".
People are stupid.
http://www.logicalfallacies.info/presumption/...
WILLFULLY stupid...
Read Richard Hofstadter's "The Paranoid Style in American Politics and Other Essays" for an excellent overview of the genesis of our latter-day "conservatives"--WATBs and rabidly anti-intellectual buffoons, the lot of them.
It took Obama over a year to figure what these jackasses were doing to him. I know he's smarter than orange crush Boehner, but he got totally smoked in this case.
the Repubes and their Corporate Overlords were assuring Obama that it was just "a show", and that the R's would be reasonable in the long run. But after having the football pulled away for the 1,007th time, Obama caught on.
... if Pelosi and Reid, among others, weren't busy trying to buy 'bipartisanship' at the expense of items that would make this bill actually meaningful.
Without the public option or single-payer, this is like having a ruling about field goals in the middle of baseball season.
Why do I feel like we'd get more done if we didn't have two parties: one which is marginally progressive and one which is so fucking crazy that they couldn't *exist* in any other country but this one, fueled by selfishness, ignorance and lack of proper education....?
In any other country we would not be debating whether or not we want to prop up the health insurance industry rather than covering everyone and saving money (single payer). It's a fucking no-brainer, unless you're not really interested in helping people.
(And I can't take that clown seriously, if for no reason other than I keep seeing "Boner" rather than "Bayner". And wasn't that the way the corrupt senator in "The Last Boy Scout" pronounced his name, or does my memory fail me?)
"o", so it's a convenient perjorative for the little prick.
“The greatest evildoers are those who don’t remember because they have never given thought to the matter, and, without remembrance, nothing can hold them back,”
... shoe.
Maybe we should pronounce his name "Booner".
the English language. Booner is an option, but being the bonehead he is, I really prefer Boner.
“The greatest evildoers are those who don’t remember because they have never given thought to the matter, and, without remembrance, nothing can hold them back,”
... suspiciously French, to me.
We know they are going to do everything to block the bill, they've been installing death panels for a bunch of months now as they built their fort.
The thing is, I'm not so sure Boehner is making a lot of friends anywhere but on the right with that statement he appears so proud to make.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
Fresh from the Oven! But not a pumpkin pie; that wouldn't be visible on his weird face.
In other words they're going to keep doing what they've been doing all along.
Yes, and now they seem to bragging about it. People who need help with their healthcare aren't going to be patting the republicans on the back if they succeed in keeping any healthcare reform from coming. Sure, this isn't even near a perfect step for healthcare, but at least it's a beginning. We haven't even had a beginning in decades.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
It is just that so many more are going to suffer so much more and die for corporate and pollitical capital.
That is what being progressive is all about, making progress.
Hasa Diga Eebowai
you and some others here see this as the opening salvo, the first step towards a better healthcare system.
some see this as a small step towards a more equitable health system.
I don’t.
I see this as the end; a strategic win for industry flacks and their paid reps in congress, which required a tactical loss. Instead of setting up a path for more progress in healthcare, this is a final nail in the single-payer coffin. A declaration by both party’s leaderships that the for-profit health system is unchallengeable. And, to me, that is a failure to reform healthcare.
I hope you’re right. I do. And if we are still blogging a decade from now, and this was the first step towards single payer I will apologize profusely for being wrong.
of health care reform if, as many people here have promised, large numbers decide to sit out the next election cycle and sulk. The Republicans will then undo what progress has been made. That will show the remaining Democrats won't it.
Hasa Diga Eebowai
you might just be right
will only be able to "change/repeal" the HCR bill with a 67 "Super Majority":
http://www.politicalforum.com/health-care/106...
So when you hear BAAAAAYNOR and all the rest of the Republicans squawking about how they're going to "begin the process of repealing this bill the day after it passes", that's all it will be....SQUAWKING.
"The US has an army of 90,000 soldiers in Afghanistan and is spending $100bn a year, but has still been unable to defeat 20,000-25,000 Taliban who receive no pay at all." - Patrick Cockburn
Give the babies a toy to play with. Let them waste their time trying to repeal it while the adults move on and hopefully make more progress (although that last part is pure fantasy itself).
Unless there is a wholesale change, tantamount to a revolution at the ballot box, that results in a thorough house cleaning, I think that all this "reform" is going to do is lock into stone for decades the most corrupt system in the developed world. This is a one-way deal that is being crafted, and it isn't going in the direction of the People. And, it is a blow to democracy itself, because it was something that the majority of Americans wanted (according to the polls). Even though the majority of americans wanted genuine reform and a just system, the politicians who are supposed to have been representing the people refused...and will get away with it. It makes for one more major precedent of a government that is utterly unresponsive to the needs, desires and will of the people; a deliberate undemining to the point of failure of democracy. This was a line in the sand issue, and the elected people decided to give us the finger.
As we can see, the sociopaths will never willingly give up so much as a micron of ground. Nor will they compromise. As government become progressively and more willfully unresponsive, it narrows the options for how positive change can be brought about.

"we have the best health care system in the world," a reporter would ask, "Just where do you find us ranked that highly? Is that the AP poll or the Doctor's Poll? Will our ranking be enough to get us into the Health Bowl this season?"
"That's fu*#ing retarded."
Big City Mayor
Matt Taibbi was on Morning Joe a couple of months ago and Maria Bartiromo was on as well. Maria made the comment about our having the best healthcare in the world and Matt called her out on it. She said she would not stand for anyone saying we did not have the best in the United States, her country. She almost had vapors. Matt proceeded to talk about how far down the list we are and Maria continued to vaporize herself.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
We can only hope.
He would accuse the reporter of Treason and of Hating America between sobs until the reporter recanted and reassured all Americans everywhere that they are the bestest and nicest and smartest people that ever existed because they were not born somewhere else.
I didn't argue we weren't the best. I just asked about the rankings.
"That's fu*#ing retarded."
Big City Mayor
Mine just came out my nose!! How dare you, Sir! How DARE YOU expect a reporter to ask a question like that! You and your liberal media elites always picking on the poor, defenseless Conservatives. Bush bashing and hateful fear mongering. Why dont YOU go look up the rankings yourself? Huh? Afraid of the truth? Jeez, classic liberal hippie welfare baby wanting Republicans to do everything for you! Its so easy for you to sit back and blame Bush for everything and expect everyone else to answer your questions! While Democrats have been ignoring and shunning Republican input and policy, which is What The American People Want (TM). How insulting.
I think it would turn into something like that ^^^^, if just once, when a Republican said...
that this bill was written by and for the health insurance industry. Those damn Republicans have betrayed their corporate masters by fighting this bill. Haven't they?
Hasa Diga Eebowai
.
And shadow boxing. It's like there fake outrage. They are to fucking immoral and greedy to give a shit about anything else.
"..we do have the best health care system in the world." Which WE is Boehner referring to? The American "cash through the nose for hope of ins coverage" WE or his "already have government run healthcare and wouldn't give it up" WE?
john boehner is a corrupt, lying douchebag: given. he will lie, take dirty money, whatever: all given.
so, it isn't surprising in the least that he lies about the crappy health
reforminsurance-friendly bill. it is just what he does. we should expect that if boehner's mouth is moving he's lying.it is candy's reaction to his lies that is so fucking annoying.
she said, in response to his lie about 'govt-run healthcare': "I want to point out that the Democrats clearly have argued and will argue that it's not a government run program"
the democrats have 'clearly argued that' because that is reality. the newswhore media can't even call a spade a spade, everything is a he said/she said. fucking annoying.
The media is failing to make the value decisions necessary in objective journalism - i.e., calling out lies and misrepresentations of fact.
The audience is failing through the decline of critical thinking skills. It's not just the younger generation will be screwed over by the Texas School Board, the fact is that the adults making these decisions are already the product of a childhood defined by the Reagan Era. We're moving further and further from the mark.
not to be too conspiratorial, buuuuuut....
in order for the ruling class to press the shiv deeper into the economic well-being of the middle class (the working poor and destitute were forgotten a long time ago) they had to convince the middleclass that the shiv sticking out of their chest was really beneficial, and that required some serious brainwashing and dumbing down of large swaths of the country.
and, good news! it worked! /snark off
!
That McDonald's serves up millions of hamburgers to sate a nation's appetite may be a marketing success, profitable to the corporation, but it does not mean that a quarter-pounder with large fries and a large Coke is part of a healthy diet.
It shames me. Every few months I buy a McFish and a McChicken and enjoy the hell out of them and then spend the afternoon groaning and holding my gut.
But I soon forget and then a few months later I do it again.
America is like that with Republicans.
not to mention that there isn't a "free" market even to begin with... but that takes us pretty far OT
Free market is's just another corporate buzzword like neo-liberalism.
The only freedom and liberalism they're interested in is for the major economic players and no one else.

I wonder why Boehner works sooo hard on his tan . .
Interesting, isn't it . .
of the cameras, he is on a golf course somewhere funded by lobbyists' money. It's a wonder he ever finds time to do the people's business!
“The greatest evildoers are those who don’t remember because they have never given thought to the matter, and, without remembrance, nothing can hold them back,”
Quote " A government run exchange. That the expectation is you'll have three or four plans as designed by the federal government." And run by an insurance company. Also repeat after me, "we do not have the best healthcare system in the world, we do not have the best healthcare system in the world, we do not have the best healthcare system in the world." Crowley tried to refute the bull, but as usual was too deferential.
The only thing that genuine healthcare is a danger to is fascism. And that is the root of the fear of the interests who have purchased the likes of this corrupt, self-justifying, lying, pathetic lillte man. Profits are nice, but it is the loss of an element of control over society that they fear. They fear democracy.
What Boehner and his allies are doing is a first cousin to treason.
there's just one word for boehner
or actually two--fucking LIAR.......
Why do you hate America? Why did you and the Dems get together w/ 'The Industry' to turn Health Care Reform into a steaming pile of you?
me-oww!
Good one!

keep saying this???
"The American people don't want to take the step toward government run health insurance. It's a dangerous step, because we do have the best health care system in the world."
Polling suggests otherwise. And we have the 37th "best" healthcare in the world. Aggravates the piss outa me.
It does not matter what Republicans do, their guys keep supporting them. Lies, wars, hypocrisy, torture, spying on Americans, open judicial activism, rewriting history textbooks, etc. You name it.
Republicans will get away with it forever so long as their constituents hate science, honesty, the poor, black people, etc.
The Republican party is a mirror reflection of the ugliness and evil inherent in its backers, from Wall-Street to the insurance industry to Big Oil to organized religion.
No amount of truth or reality will change these people. If a Tea Party wing-nut went homeless as a direct result of policies put in place by Republicans they would still believe and tell everyone that Democrats were responsible.
The rest of America must move on without crazed cultists trying to make it appear as we're in lock-step with their bullshit. They are a lost cause.
.....? No?
This wart hog makes me sick to watch her powder up to old numb nuts.
PLEASE get this HCR done already. I'm tired of seeing this pathetic old flea bag being given the softball, propaganda platform "interviews". I can't take anymore.
"The American people don't want to take the step toward government run health insurance. It's a dangerous step, because we do have the best health care system in the world."
A lie mixed with a half-truth. Every time I hear a politician, especially a RepubliKKKan, say that folks don't want government run health care, my head wants to explode. There have been plenty of polls that have been done where over 50% want a Public Option or a single payer system. What people don't want is the piece of crap that is being offered and is laughingly called Health Care Reform. I would agree that maybe this country does have the 'best health care' in the world...but is only accessible to a few...the elite, the wealthy.
Government + the Federal Reserve = organized crime
This could be a campaign commercial that would be the death nell for the republican party, if only Rahmabama and the congressional sellouts were passing a health care bill the people actually wanted.
The only reason these GOP assholes still exist, is because Obama and the democrats have done nothing to change the immoral tax code (Tax the Rich), they have done nothing to reign in the corporate owned MSM propaganda outlets, and they have done nothing to stop outlets like Fox from representing themselves as legitimate news sources to the bigot idiots who eat their crap up.
They have done nothing to break up the mega monopolies that have ruined the world economy, and they seem absolutely intent on letting the middle class die, so they can play their little games of "I'm so important, I'm a U.S. Senator."
He could have forced the banksters into every regulation he ran on, but instead gave them the money with no strings attatched, and then went back begging the Wall Street Banksters to do the right thing.
Passing a corporate welfare bill for the insurance companies and legislating mandatory enrollment? I don't remeber people being enthusiastic about voting for Obama because he was offering Romney care.
Frankly, I have had my fill of all these assholes. Do I wan't someone like the GOP who will put a bullet in my skull, and then laugh about it? Or do I want someone like the DLCer's who are going to stick a knife in my back, then hold my hand while I slowly blead to death telling me how sorry they are for the whole ordeal?
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
Since WHEN has this Tan-in-a-Can GOP EVER not resisted anything not toe-in-line with his party? You call this news?
Why Why WHY do we have such ignoramus's elected to represent us?

...they would run this clip all day on every major station and at the end of Bohner's crap have the screen go blank and ask "What has the GOP done for you lately?"
do the insurance and drug industries rake in every year?
With that kind of profit at stake, does anyone actually believe that healthcare will ever move away from its current model? Too many companies that are "too big to fail" have invested too much money into both parties for too long to ever allow for any sort of actual reform.
They will continue to hold the average U.S. citizen hostage and bleed us dry, raising premium and prescription prices with impunity (even higher if we complain about it) and there's not a damn thing any of us can do about it.
If you're still a stubborn sunny optimistic believer that, in the end, this country will do the right thing and come through for the growing number of people who are being decimated and discarded by the healthcare industry, just look at the crap sandwich we're being served--laws which will force us buy in to the current business model and to add to the profits of the industry. Which will then be invested in both parties. Who will then create even more laws to add to the healthcare industries profits. Which will then...etc.
Get used to it..because as our bought-&-paid-for political leaders have proven over and over and over, it ain't gonna change. So you might as well give up hope.
Of course you are Boner. You're party was responsible for all the damage done to this nation during the Bush years and now once again you're standing in the way of something positive for the common average American. They defend the rich. They couldn't care less about the rest of us. Well I for one am gonna do everything I can to destroy the Republican party once and for all. Send money, write letters, attend marches, whatever it takes to Smash them into the dirt from whence they came. Bring it on Boner Boy.
