By Heather Wednesday Jul 08, 2009 4:30amFrom The Arizona Guardian:
Arizona state Senator Sylvia Allen (R) voices support for opening up uranium mining in the state. Sen Allen responds to statements by environmentalists by assuring them that the "Earth is 6,000 years old..." Twice.

republicanism is a mental illness!
a man named Jake Flake, who was the Republican Candidate for her Senate seat, but died in a fall from a horse.
[He] died in a fall from a horse.
You sure he didn't fall off a dinosaur?
Baby Jeebus was riding the dinosaur.
Baby Jeebus must've wanted Flake for a sunbeam...
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2009-...
Batshit crazy I tells ya.
to Evangelicals that God has personally opened the door. God, Sarah's doorman. Jesus, on the otherhand, is Carrie Underwood's chauffeur.
Every time God closes a door, Baby Jeebus opens a window.
God's a little gamey - he smells like a wet dog when he's cooped up for too long.
Conservatism is the real mental illness. Republicanism is just a symptom.
in an age when knowledge is so available,
the gop and all it's fucking dumbass members
continue to regress to less than dirt stupidity.
dirt i apologize to you for the unfortunate
comparison...the gop is fundamentally retarded
by choice.
the marginalized, the undereducated, the have-nots, and the chronically resentful that make up the Republican "base" flock to Creationist/End-times/evangelical fundamentalists like this idiot state senator and the crazed Babel-speaking pathological liar soon-to-be-ex-governor of Alaska.
They not only watch too much Faux News, they watch too many sitcom shows and daytime soap operas and "reality" shows. That's their real world.
I'm fascinated by people like this. It must take a great deal of effort to maintain such a level of ignorance.
But it is dieing out thanks goodness.
by the truckload.
Why the hell do I live in this state. . .
Oh yea. . . it's cheap to live here. . . and this is why. . idiots everywhere.
this is what we are up against!
off topic: I am trying to find a graph that shows wages of working people over the past 30 years (which is flat) and the top 1% of earners (that has increased 140%) I have seen it before need help ty.
http://filipspagnoli.wordpress.com/2008/10/07...
Even better than the one I saw!!
Are my daughter (23) and myself (56) the only persons who thought that the epic services for MJ had more to do with money and that it bacame a train wreck?
He integrated the country.
He was likened to jesus.
He made the trains run on time.
I feel sorry for the people of LA having to pay for all that.
But the Census Bureau published that kind of info a few years back... might check their site for the info you need. The bottom quintile had actually LOST in terms of real income over the past three decades.
Thanks to modern technology, those uranium miners will do a better job protecting the environment than God did 6,000 years ago when he left that big crack in the north end of our beloved state.
That big crack was caused by the great flood, dintcha know? Noah and the Ark sailed by it on day 21 (of 40). At least that's their story, and they're stickin to it.
she must of misspoke right? i mean she really doesnt believe the earth is only 6000 yrs old...thats just insane...
I grew up knowing Sylvia Allen. One of her kids was in my same year. She is a devout Mormon, and YES, she firmly believes that the Earth is 6000 years old... among other things.
were you raised?
I grew up in Winslow and she reminds me of many of the people that I remember from my childhood.
Good old Heber, so yeah, same type of people, I'm sure ;)
If she mispoke, then she did it twice
I've met folks who really believe that because their reverend told them how to do the meth er... I mean math.
hehehe
Unfortunately, yes, she does believe it. Mike Huckabee believes it. Scores of Christians believe it.
comes from the youtube comments on this video:
/picardfacepalm
man, that cracked me up.
also, the irony behind thinking the earth is 6000 years old and wanting to mine for uranium is hilarious.
Oh yeah, she's wrong all right. Growing up as a Southern Baptist, we were always taught that the Earth is 7000 years old, not 6000.
There should be minimal educational standards for office-holders
And I ain't talkin' schools of fish.
go with the flow.
Sometimes lame ducks do too. Both are quitters, ya know.
she should have invited the ones from her Friday lakeside press conference to the Monday fishing press exposition.
The ducks were more articulate and everything they quacked made sense.
I thought they were loons which would be so appropriate. Nothing like seeing a little special needs baby out on a family fishing trip. I'm not sure who was caring for him but they managed to get him in front of a camera...again.
Loons? I thought they were her hard-core supporters.
... a Palin press-op was the one that went:
gobblegobbrkkkkkkkhhhhgggghghghghghghghghghghghghghzzkkkkkkk
You win the thread
The stupid really does hurt....our country. How does someone get to that age and that position being that ill informed? Funny thing is they have used that number for years. When does it get to be 6001?
Since when did (the Christian) God become in favor of "ensuring that our children have the same lifestyle as we do (the reason given by the "Senator" for whipping up the uranium mining)." The God I was raised on would be far more more concerned about what Americans did to raise the standard of living of those in the developing world, as well as those poor and powerless within our own neighborhoods.
is the he can support whatever you want to do. Convenient, huh?
.
Is that WRITTEN history goes back some 10,000 years. It's one thing to ignore science but something else altogether to state unequivically that the planet is 4,000 years younger than written history.
Those old writings are fabrications of Satan, created to make us doubt the Truth, just like all the other stuff that makes Christianity seem ridiculous. Problem solved, no more need to doubt.
And God buried and petrified the dinosaur bones in order to test our faith.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrZcztxRquo
One of the best pieces of US comedy ever.
What written history goes back 10,000 years? Just curious.
over twice that time. Satan painted them in asteroid cavities and then planted them on earth 6,ooo years ago.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTnuHLShuho
Their written history goes back almost that far...what wasn't destroyed by the damn xtians.
comes from Egypt around the time of King Scorpion, 5500 years ago.
Organized civilization in Egypt goes back roughly 5500 years ago.
that old, you need to use a process of carbon dating measuring the half-life decay rate of carbon molecules.
A process that bible-thumpers disregard completely without any thought
or, i am going to learn something new today!
Have you a link or anything about it?
A basic tenant of republican rhetoric has been that most government decisions should be made at the state or local level. It seems to me that most state legislatures in our country have more than their share of morons, loonies and reality challenged religious fanatics.
Does anybody really want this lap drooling retard making any important decisions? Seriously?
and stop using it. It's passe and makes you look bad.
Retarded people had no choice in what level of brainpower they ended up with. Consider yourself lucky if you got lots more IQ points.
This stupid woman had a choice. Please select a more pejorative term for her than one that involves putting down innocent people. Thanks.
Oh--and it's "tenet," not tenant. FYI.
They've got Palins all over the country. Scary shit.
It scares me when people who are dumber than dog shit get to vote, much less hold public office. It really makes you wonder what stooges these people make Americans look like in the eyes of the educated world.
I'm more worried about what people like this woman are doing to our country. If she's clueless on this, what else is she clueless about? It's dangerous.
What is an "environmentalist" or any other educated person going to think when they hear a person say the earth is 6000 years old?
Well, the normal reaction is to ignore just about anything else that comes out of her mouth.
I suggest that anyone who wants to promote anything doesn't let this woman speak to the opposition.
That is one scary lady. Yes, I agree when people dumber than dog shit.................
LOL!! At least it's useful--for the dog. Makes him/her feel better.
It's not what you know, it's who you know.
..what a shame she's Arizona's. Does she still believe that the Sun revolves around the Earth?
Yes. Silly surfjac; the Sun has always revolved around the Earth. Time for your Christian Taliban re-education camp tour.
..what does it look like, you know, having the Sun revolve around the Earth? Does it look any different than the Earth revolving around the Sun?
..Copernicus made that pronouncement, what did the sunrise look like? Did it look any different? No but on that day, the Universe changed forever!
http://www.tangle.com/view_video.php?viewkey=e32052df3cabb873d961
In a word: stupid. In two words: utterly ignorant.
so.
What is a shame is that God is so busy going around "opening doors" for Sarah and other good Christian politicians that he doesn't have time to prevent thousands of kids from starving to death everyday.
..health care!
In 2007, state Rep. Warren Chisum, R-Pampa, distributed to his colleagues in the Texas House of Representatives a memo that, in addition to attacking evolution, referred readers to a Web site promoting the notion that the sun and rest of the universe revolve around a stationary Earth.

Facts, history, science... All have a liberal bias.
Did he also warn them to be careful when they get close to the edge of the earth, not to fall off?
She would almost be better than my senator, Randy Neugabuer, who is still demanding that Obama prove he is a U.S. citizen. He is such a nut job Keith Olbermann named him in one of his "Worst Person" segments.
n/t
I like her way of thinking because using her numbers that would make me about a half day old or less.
... you're beautiful, charming, and intelligent at any age. :D
Ah shucks! I bet you say that to all the women who argue with you about suicides in England. ;)
Dipshit.
AZ needs to spend more on education, if this kind of moron can get into public office.
I can only judge your education system by the products it creates.
I'm shocked!!! Beyond belief!!!
..called "The Day the Universe Changed" with James Burke; brilliant stuff. In it, he discusses the "reported" age of the Earth by Bishop James Usher in the 1650's (when they had really great scientific analytical equipment) based on the Bible and Genesis and all the "begets and begots" which put the 'genesis' in 4004 BC. One step further and they gave the date as 23 October, 4004, BC.
It blows my mind that people still cling to that date much the same way 20% of the population of this country thinks Obama is a Muslim.
What happens in October? Oh yeah, creation and halloween (which has more basis in reality than creation).
Ever notice in Genesis that God created only one woman? And she only had sons.
Better turn up the crazy Michelle Bachmann, Sally Kern et al. We have a new player and she's got chops.
ROTFLMAO...heehee Yep a new challenger who is determined to out stupid M.B..... ;-)
They have hijacked all government down to the lowest levels, this could actually cause this stimulus to fail, people like this will do everything to be sure it fails. We need to set up tax free weekly meeting rooms 3 in each city minimum, we can gather and work together to take it back. Instead of magical freaks we could be scientific believers, in a coalition for rational thought and actions. All we have to do is have faith and give 10 percent each week into the pot so we can elect real officials. Then of coarse we need very strong leaders unafraid to go with the best candidates, whether the are too short or funny looking, that chance has to be taken!!! Maybe I'll try and set up my church of intelligent thought and reasoning.
Blew right by ya didn't it.
Colbert could and hopefully will have field day with this. He and Jon don't need writers, this stuff is handed to them for free.
...6,000 x 750,000
Next time you hear that from anyone, yell out "4.5 Billion (bitch)!"
We have buried ruins in Egypt older than 6,000 years. We have Lucy, who's bones are 3.2 million years old.
This kind of stupidity deserves to be shouted down....for the sake of our country and its intelligence average.
... go 6,000+ years back, including evidence indicating domestic production of rice, silk, and raising of dogs/chickens.
Didn't the visitor's information center at the Grand Canyon have creationist materials giving their flood version of geology during the Bush administration? Or was that an urban myth?
... it was personally signed off on by W., but there was some controversy about Creationist materials being in the bookstore.
not long ago, they addressed that, and said the creationist materials have since been removed.
That is good to hear.
to a former co-worker who was a "promise keeper" and he said fossils are a conspiracy...
I was stunned for a minute...then asked, by who, and to what end...
He couldn't answer.
these people are absolutely fuckin stupid, and they have NO business being in politics if they believe that bullshit.
All it takes is a fossil to blow a hole in your sacred holy book?
Really?
I'm waaay past ready for xtianity to go the way of Roman mythology...
All religions come and go, and started out as cults.
This one is no different.
Don't blame me if you watch it; I didn't
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P27AKEonIWs
yeah...
what's the word I'm lookin for here?
Oooooh I dunno...completely insane, mauhap?
before she met the Mister.
Kind of like (Planet of the Apes) he crushed that paper airplane because "flight is impossible."
The bible was brain-control propaganda in the days when people had no education and were easily manipulated by their leaders. Now it's TV, and the same story.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0gAcbAGPH4
is that like pullin a groin?
A pun
Although who I wouldn't mind pulling my groin:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7j9JNLmsmw4
they're trying to pull the wool over our eyes on something else already.
"Next time you hear that from anyone, yell out "4.5 Billion (bitch)!"
Yes, and she can be reminded the age of the earth just about equals the half-life of U238.
Scary to think of people like this controlling any aspect of our environment when you think about it. I mean when you believe Jesus is going to come to earth any minute and whisk you up to heaven, who cares what we do with our planet?
At least!
Anything carbon dated as older than 6,000 years obviously has been imported from up there somewhere.
Dinosaur bones and all that nonesense were put here by God to test your faith. See how easily "science" is explained in the minds of these people?
Must have been real hard for God to squeeze those big bones into those tiny little cracks.
Sky rocks, I believe is the technical term.
Sadly I have extended family members who would agree with this woman. It makes holiday gatherings pretty miserable for me. I respect them and don't argue with them, but sometimes it really is hard to keep my mouth shut.
And stop going to gatherings when those people are present. You'll be a happier person. I used to keep my mouth shut around wingnut, bible thumping relatives, "out of respect" and then I realized that I have zero respect for people who traffic in B.S.
It's my husband's family. One of those "gotta go" situations. Each year we do Thanksgiving with them and thankfully there are two besides my husband who are sane so I have some company.
I have to go to these types of functions as well. The bad news is I drink a cocktail which renders me incapable of shutting up. I'm sort of hoping they will stop inviting me, but they never do.
I've never even met people like that. Must be an American thing???????? Seriously, in my entire life, not once.
Like they had a better "in" w/the Flying Spaghetti Monster than I did. Patronizing. But that's their outlook. They've got theirs, and to hell with you (literally).
The matrix has them, worthless lumps of protoplasm, LOL. I am sure your family is just like mine, Fox news watchers. You still have to love em.
it really is optional. Especially if teh crazy is catchy.
Please stop respecting stupid people. They'll only drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
If you are talking to me about repecting stupid people, they are my husband's family and to disrespect them would be to disrespect him in some way. He wouldn't do that to me and I won't do that to him. Back when I had my own family he put up with a lot of shit from them.
I have a similar situation going with my in laws... there has to be something in the holy water.
Lead?
That suggests to me that she knows it's a point of view and not true at all. What's worse, people who believe things like that or people who think their constituents are stupid enough to believe things like that?
Unfortunately, most of her constituents believe the same thing she does, as the district she serves is heavily Mormon and red all the way.
- and leaves us just as aghast.
She even "fact checked". Did you see her looking askance to make sure others agreed?
I think I have some things in my refrigerator older than that.
Thats funny. So do I. Hate cleaning out the refridgerator.
Why would you have to clean out your refridgerator? The world has survived for 6,000 years without any refridgeration laws - we don't need any now.
unless you count the one time a year, I lug it outside, and hose it out with a pressure washer.
I just wait for those fuzzy things in my fridge to sprout legs and walk out on their own.......who am I to interfere with evolutionary progress.
I have a friend like that. His fridge could be delared a WMD. If the door blew off it would be a bio-hazard.
I thought that I heard at least a little grumbling from the room when she made that idiotic statement. Twice.
She is on the Retirement Committee? About damn time she did, I'd say.
To paraphrase a line from Bill Maher's "Religulous"; You don't have to pass an IQ test to become a public servant...
You just gotta laugh. I imagine that whenever people like her watch an episode of the Flinstones, they believe they are watching some sort of a National Geographic Documentary on the History Channel. Totally Clueless.
No surprise here that Reslugs are terribly uneducated, fools.
....it's the fools who vote for them and want this representation. I imagine those same fools watching this same clip and wetting their pants with religious euphoria at her 'convictions on parade'.
Its even funnier when these creationists slip up on the math themselves. I like the fact that the Creation Museum in Tennessee has a display in their planetarium that invites visitors to peer back "millions of lightyears" in space. I guess it would have sounded just too foolish to invite kids to see "6,000 light years" with a telescope.
not time. Its the distance light travels in one year.
However, if an object is three light-years away, the light we see NOW left the object three years ago.
So it's a bit of a wrong-word deal, but I can see what they were trying to say.
186,000/sec. That will be 186,000x60x60x24x365x3 miles
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJ8kMbMpQbo
millions of lightyears, implies millions of years.
the whole space,time relativity thingy...
... a pre-packaged presentation and they were either unable to edit it, or missed one spot.
The Bible also says that Noah was 600 years old when the flood happened. Geez, how many Honeymooners reruns does that come to?
Her hairdo sure looks 6001 years old.
She needs a new style:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBEvlwtaaTA
http://jesusgoestocharmschool.files.wordpress...
... is if the Creationist argument requires a 6,000 year-old Earth to support the 'inerrant word of God' claim, then it's not like Christianity is built on the most solid of foundations.
And, I'm curious .... are there Jews who believe the 6,000 year-old Earth thing, since the Pentateuch is part of the Christian Bible?
