On Veteran's Day, Romney Suggests 'Voucher' System for Vet Benefits
At an Veteran's Day campaign event in South Carolina Friday, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney hinted that he might introduce "private sector competition" for veterans' health care and other benefits.
Romney told a group of veterans at Mutt's BBQ in Mauldin that it might be possible to create a "voucher" system.
"When you work in the private sector and you have a competitor, you know if I don't treat this customer right, they're going to leave me and go somewhere else," the candidate said. "Whereas if you're the government, they know there's nowhere else you guys can go. You're stuck."
Romney added: "Sometimes you wonder if there would be some way to introduce some private sector competition, somebody else that could come in and say, you know, each soldier gets X thousand dollars attributed to them. And then they can choose whether they want to go into the government system or the private system with the money that follows them."
"Like what happens in Florida, where people have a voucher that goes with them. Who knows?"
Last week, the former Massachusetts governor proposed a Medicare overhaul that would also include the option of vouchers, a plan similar to one offered by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) earlier this year.
A Bloomberg Government study found that the Ryan plan would result in very little health care savings.

All this low life parasite of privalege wants to do is set up a system where 30% of the tax dollars that would go to vets health care, will instead go into his privatized company coffers.
Millionaire/billionaire welfare is all it is. When the hell is someone in the media going to start pointing this out? Can our corporate fascist owned MSM be any more useless?
If you skim 30% off the top to enrich trust fund assholes who never worked a day in their lives, that means you have 30% less dollars to provide services.
When I tell this OBVIOUS point to people, they sit back and act as though they were just hit I the head.
I cannot believe how uncurious people are.
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
". . . I cannot believe how uncurious people are." ---
I agree with George Carlin that the problem lies with the electorate, not the candidates. They are merely a reflection of the Dumbfucks who keep electing, as George says, ". . . these rich **********s who don't give a fuck about you. They don't give a fuck about you."
...I CRAP bigger than you.
To 'Thugs, all of life can be distilled into some sort of scam for the corporations.

Blackwater pays better then the Army, so how about vouchers for wars?
There isn't competition. There's protected markets and price-fixing. BC/BS doesn't offer uniform coverage in all fifty states at the same price. None of them do. They get together and agree which regions/states will be each others territory and they agree not to poach customers there. Same with auto and homeowner's insurance.
The Magic Market savings are a figment of their corrupt imaginations and pure, unadulterated Bullshit.
...I CRAP bigger than you.
Who the hell buys the gibberish oozing out of this repug's piehole? Privatizing healthcare is kinda like pulling into a truck/car stop on highway 5. Your choices are Shell, Chevron, Texaco and Exxon. The car's out of gas and you can't afford the high, fixed prices. Buying healthcare is not like buying a loaf of bread at the corner store.
Their homeworld was a place called Earth, located in an uninteresting part of the galaxy. They had an expression: pride goeth before a fall. Their pride was their undoing. I know. I was there....They did not listen, of course. Arrogant men never do.
I am sure that sounds just fine for a rich prick who never served and his five sons blew off any service too.
. . . would bring is a stark absence of the right-wing, part-time christian shits who are hell-bent on turning America into a quasi-Taliban state. Who would Jesus (or Joseph Smith) deny human rights to?
(maybe a necessity to get out the vote), there still may be a few infesting a Romney cabinet.

...Newt Gingrich--who has only ever wanted to be Dick Cheney, the most powerful man on Earth. Bank on it.
Just not at BofA...they'll steal your money.
Yes, Mr. Romney, because each soldier is just a fixed dollar amount with no discernible differences. I thought conservative Republicans were supposed to be against "one size fits all" programs. That's the one of the problems with "vouchers" (other than they are subsidies to private enterprises). Vouchers treat individuals as if they are all the same, just a fixed dollar amount. Not all veterans are the same. Not all served in the same capacity. None of them received the exact same injuries in the exact same way. So, Mr. Romney, what happens when the medical service provider says, "Sorry, your voucher ran out, we can't do any more for you."?

for Romney's b*llsh*t, but it does not appear to be in short enough supply to require rationing.
I suggest a monthly voucher for elected officials pay. Every third week of the month, a public vote is held in the state or district of the elected official and the public decides if the official has been productive enough to be paid.
Vote GOP and move forward to the 18th Century.
From My experience, once vouchers get created, they get capped, closed and then year after year, cut and cut again. No thanks.
Profitize all their pay and benefits, whatever happened to looting and pillage? It worked for Blackbeard and Captain Kidd!
Voucher all politicians for competence and accomplishments and if they won't work for more than 109 days a year, dock their pay for the rest of the year, fire them, and if necessary hire private individuals to complete the jobs that they refuse refused to do. The run on elected office would cease and the American people will be better off.
All the republicans know how to do is cut and control - mess things up so that the rich taskmasters they work for have more money coming in and less going out - Romeny is a liar and a cheat - a man that rich speaks into the wind in what ever way it is blowing - he wont make it - the house is ours in this next election - the tide is turning and that nonsense is coming to light -

Geez, the Mittster is so very out of touch. He doesn't even know what a VET is... he thinks they doctor pets.
His mouth is open....which is really sad for being a holy roller in magic underware...I thought you folk's were God's true children? a follower of the true word as brought forth from magic gold plates and glasses found by Joseph Smith near a mountain in N.Y State..
Republicans in general are the most un-God like people on earth.... no matter what they say, their action speak much much louder than their words...money and business are your Gods...The only time Jesus got really upset was with the money changers....(business people/bankers) working out of a temple on the sabbath...
However, Ayn Rand would be proud...Mitt
Can we be done with this charade(?)....Republicans were shown this past week in Ohio and soon in Wisconsin that "we the people" are done with bagger, neo-con, i got mine and you're not getting any.... crowd that is the right..They are so far right they cannot really be called republicans..Regan couldn't get elected today from those on the right....
Mitt, you don't stand a chance....go back to Salt Lake City....Government is not a business.
Mention Richard M. Nixon...
Fuck YOU!
Love and kisses, The Vets.

who is happy with:
your phone company
your power company
your natural gas company
your gasoline companies
your insurance company
your bank
then there's the more questionable companies as consumers we're not sure what to think:
where does your food come from?
where do your clothes come from?
where do you household appliances come from?
where do your textiles come from?
try going in to a GAP and asking if the clothes were made with child labor or not, the people who work there don't even know.
The asshole.

Another scheme to loot the people's wealth.
Vets have no special pass. They're lucky they didn't have to pay their way to and from the countries to which they are shipped.
me-oww!
Unbelievable that a so-called candidate asking to occupy the seat of the "Commander in Chief" find a way to default on the contractual agreement with the American peoples commitment to their voluntary military enlistees and pass that responsibility on to private industry.
To modify a phrase from Saturday Night Live spoken by Chevy Chase: "Mitt you ignorant ****".
is government run. It's much too expensive to privatize. As for vouchers for our vets, is Mitt insane. They give their all, we give our all. It's that simple.
Sort of rhymes with Me-Dee-Oc-Ri-Tee
OK. I understand that's more or less an ad hominem. But the Mittster is one fine piece of work. Willing to say or do anything in his attempt to become the most powerful guy on the planet.
At least he's not claiming that god told him to run, but ya' never know what this Mitt guy will say next.
Bad Mitt. Bad! Down dog.
We're supposed to be the last remaining superpower- which is debatable given China's ascendancy. But, assuming we MAY still be the last remaining superpower, how in the fuck do we wind up with the current crop of bozos running for the highest office in the land? OK. The Bamster is not exactly a bozo, thank you. Although, as Jim Hightower has mentioned, 'Bam is not Mount Rushmore material either.
Jesus H. Christo!!!!!!!!! WTF????????? Can we have some sanity here? I guess that's too much to ask of America circa 2011.
He has always been filthy rich, and simply can't comprehend that there are people out there who can't buy anything they want. His arrogance and elitism is disgusting
served, fought, and died for their country to get vouchers?.....
Say goodbye to military service then Mitt...
...or the defenders of our nation, so much as revenue streams. Provide vouchers so that private insurance can profit, and likely deny coverage for anything expensive. That artificial limb you need? Not covered.
It's telling that this piece of dog offal is the most viable Republican presidential candidate. A smart man wouldn't publicly pick a fight with thousands and thousands of people who know how to operate heavy weaponry...
