If Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum's latest stump speech is successful, his opponents may find themselves campaigning against Christ.

Speaking to a tea party group at Windham High School in New Hampshire on Thursday, the former Pennsylvania senator actually compared himself to the Christian savior.

Santorum told the crowd that during a radio interview earlier in the week, a man had phoned in to tell him, "We don't need a Jesus candidate; we need an economic candidate."

"My answer to that was, we always need a Jesus candidate," Santorum, who is a Catholic, recalled.

"I don't mean that in saying we need a Jesus candidate, someone who's a Christian, but we need someone who believes in something more than themselves, some higher power, some god," he added. "When we say, 'God bless America,' do we mean it or do we just say it?"

I actually agree with Santorum. You do need a "Jesus" candidate. Someone who will drive out the money lenders, feed the poor, make the lame walk, spread love and joy, etc., etc. In short, a sort of socialist hippie with long hair and sandals. Someone I could see enjoying a reefer and a glass of wine now and then. How about it?

That would not fit in with the Revisionist propaganda. It IS amazing that there is a living document portraying all that he stood for, yet his name and teachings have been bastardized to fit a groups agenda. They spout what fits their agenda (about 10 percent of his teachings) and turn a blind eye on the other 90% that doesn't. I suppose that they will come up with a 30th version of the bible that will have shit like. "Tis easier for a camel to enter the gates of heaven, than to pull a needle out of a rich mans ass."

I am betting chapter two will be a lot better than chapter one, and as Baachmann and other rethugs have said, this will be a make or break election for the republican party. I'll be happy to watch the reapublican party break.

Obama will have the freedom of pushing strong progressive policies without concerns about being re-elected, and if we do our part and give him a majority in the house and senate, preferably a super majority, progressive policies will get passed - appointments will be made without obstruction - jobs will be created - the economy will recover, and the troops will come home in 2014.

a pony here for you in my garage. Come get it . Honest.

Ape-Man's picture

Hehehh!

Well, i didn't get to the bad stuff that WILL happen if any one of the clowns gets into the White House.

At the crux of it all, we have no choice but to vote for Obama, but we must face the fact that there is a great deal more we must do than simply vote. Lobbyists do far more than simply vote. The MIC does far more than simply vote. The reich wing does far more than simply vote. The Occupy movement is a good start, but we must do a great deal more still.
We have to open the entire tool box. It is clear that 'not voting' is going to fail. Voting for the thugs is suicide. Voting for third parties will fail - not enough visibility so that just spilts the vote and the thugs win. Our voting options are limitted to one party, and that's why all the other tools in the tool box muxt be used, and it's going to take years. We are the change we are looking for.

Yes I have a choice. Not to vote. I have finished the lesser of two evils argument, because that still means I am voting for evil. It is my moral choise to withhold my vote. Not one Democrat-Not one 'liberal' blog had the guts to even call for a primary of Obama. This whole term has been a Repug wet-dream. Obama has been the worst president in my lifetime and i'm in my 60's. I have a choise. I will make it. It will be mine to make.

..."God bless America" has never been the official law of the land, but this most definitely has:

...NO RELIGIOUS TEST SHALL EVER BE REQUIRED AS A QUALIFICATION TO ANY OFFICE OR PUBLIC TRUST UNDER THE UNITED STATES. (United States Constitution, Article VI).

And so has this...

CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAW RESPECTING AN ESTABLISHMENT OF RELIGION... (United States Constitution, Bill of Rights, First Amendment)

That's what the Founding Fathers who fought for this country's independence had to say on the matter, Ricky-boy...and as someone who claims to be qualified for the Presidency, you should know that already (or at the very least, you should care). After all, if the American people collectively lost their heads so completely that they decided to elect you President, you'd be required to swear an oath promising to "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States" which means the Constitution as it is currently worded -- and in two separate sections of the Constitution, it says that you're wrong when you insist that we need a "Jesus candidate".

Choke on it, Ricky-boy...now siddown and shaddup!

Floriduh Dave's picture

that 'just a piece of paper' that both parties have been shreading and continue to shread.?

As far as I'm concerned, at this point, the Democrats are no better than the Republicans. If nothing else, I have to give McCain this much -- had he won the election in 2008, the voters would've had a better idea what they were getting because McCain wouldn't have proved himself to be a Democrat in Republican's clothing in the way that Obama has proved to be a Republican in Democrat's clothing.

Never trust anyone who insists that patriotism requires you to blindfold yourself with the flag.

Anybody who has earned a second term has already succumbed to playing by the "Rules" or they would have never been re-elected. They would have been politically bankrupted into oblivion by the REAL rulers of government. It has become so entrenched with moral (NO not religious) indifference to rules, the SPIRIT of laws, and just plain honesty, that they make Corporations look one step better than themselves, for while Corp. do all of the same, they at least do it for the good of their constituents, the shareholders. While I know this is a bleak view. It seems that only by local government will this trend be able to be stopped. Start at the State government levels to ban corporate spending on local and State elections and by reverse osmosis it may filter corruption and corporate and self interest group ownership of candidates to the higher levels. Ya know. Trickle UP theory. If you can take out the standing Army the leaders also fall. At least that's IMHO.

LockeNessMonster's picture

This is one thing that absolutely kills me about religion, Not only relying on higher power for guidance, but even expecting intervention and a deity actually doing something. How is this any different from what we now refer to as "Greek Mythology?" As a health professional, I've actually read documented cases where people have DIED because they refused life-saving treatment. Why? Because if their god wanted them to live, they would live, and if not...This is most common among black (blah to Ricky) women in the South. They will refuse medical treatment, especially surgery and chemotherapy, to let their god heal them. I know of no case of stage IV breast cancer that has miraculously disappeared. But, yes, according to the Bible, that is exactly what one should do - pray, ask, and you shall receive. Not.
Bush II was bad enough on the Bible level. Can you imaging Santorum? He would GLADLY usher in the "end times" if he though his actions (more war in the Middle East?) would do so. The Bible if full of stories of "god's people" beating up on others and punishing (even killing) "sinners." You know Santorum would push that to an extreme never witnessed before.
Exactly, why does a god that created this incredible, powerful universe need mammals to do specific things on a planet that isn't even a grain of sand? Dude, you created black holes and supernovas but can't protect a few square miles of earthly real estate and keep people in check? Arrrrrrrgggghhhhh!!!
My wife is a Canadian resident alien. If Rick Santorum becomes POTUS, I'll be buying more winter clothes and brushing up on the rules of hockey.

I've seen some stuff, man. And some thangs...
