A new report in the Washington Post reveals that some interrogators threatened to quit over harsh methods used in interrogations. Joby Warrick talks with MSNBC's Chris Jansen.
"There was some push and pull that came from surprising places within the CIA as the interrogation program was going forward, including from some of the interrogators themselves whose resistance to things like sleep deprivation and nudity in the beginning -- and when waterboarding started some interrogators revolted and said, after four, five days, they refused to do this, some threatened to quit," explained Warrick.

This debate in our country over whether torture is a good thing or not makes me ill.
Those who torture are not punished.
Those who collapse the economy not punished - and are given billions of dollars.
Those who profiteer from war are not punished - they're given more no-bid contracts.
Yet...
if you are a second-class citizen (not rich or politically connected) you will have the full force of the law thrown on you. Ask Lyndie England who was apparently not lying when she said she was just following orders. Or war protesters who spent jail time for exercising free speech - or for that matter - journalists who bother to report on protesters like Amy Goodman and her team. Or the people having their homes taken away, their health care taken away and so many more.
As for torture: It is not a good thing. But, while we're lowering the bar for our nation lets have a debate as to whether or not pedophilia is a good thing. Or what about rape? I'm sure there's some fine reasons for why rape is good for our country. I mean, if we don't start raping than we might get raped!
are stooges for the class of people who think that they deserve to rule over the rest of the "useless eaters" like you and me.
Glad a few have ethics at least.
and we still have the Paleo Cracker Club saying "It ain't no thang to waterboard." These are the fuckers apparently IMMUNE from prosecution, the Big Dreamers -- while the guys that are ordered to to do it and saying "No" are more likely to get in trouble for refusing to obey an order or they'll get in trouble for carrying out an illegal order.
They threatened to quit.
Really, pray tell.
But they didn't contact the Department of Justice to report felony violations of the US Code. That would have been something.
No, I didn't think so.
Next…
Had these operatives actually quit, I would have much more respect for them and their situation today.
CYA
Cover your ass.
a nation of war criminals.
The better interrogators know that waterboarding and the like is bullshit; can't trust it. Not that they are wusses or anything, they will not be getting the Mother Theresa award or anything. PSYOPS....BECAUSE PYSICAL WOUNDS HEAL.
threatening to prosecute the new administration for continuing the torture policies? Or is it OK now, cuz they are Dims instead of Repugs?
While torture under the Bush administration was horrible, at least it has stopped. Right?
Wrong.
Jeremy Scahill (the reporter who broke most of the stories on Blackwater) says that a military police unit at Guantanamo regularly brutalizes unarmed prisoners, including gang-beating them, breaking their bones, gouging their eyes and dousing them with chemicals.
Specifically, whenever there is "disobedience" by the detainees - which can include praying, or having 2 styrofoam cups in their cell instead of 1, or refusing medication or failing to immediately respond when spoken to - the "Immediate Reaction Force" (IRF) is sent in.
Scahill describes what happens next:
When an IRF team is called in, its members are dressed in full riot gear, which some prisoners and their attorneys have compared to "Darth Vader" suits. Each officer is assigned a body part of the prisoner to restrain: head, right arm, left arm, left leg, right leg...
[The IRF teams then mete out brutal punishment, including] gang beating them, forcing their heads into toilets, breaking bones, gouging their eyes, squeezing their testicles, urinating on a prisoner's head, banging their heads on concrete floors and hog-tying them -- sometimes leaving prisoners tied in excruciating positions for hours on end...
[One prisoner was sprayed directly in the eyes with mace and gouged in the eyes and was then refused medical treatment, which resulted in permanent blindness in one eye. He also endured a "sexual attack".
Another prisoner had a third prisoner's feces spread on him.]
There was also torture using water:

I for one, sure hope that the majority of Dem backers on this site, and you know who you are, scream and multi-post about how justice should be served in this scenario as well. Funny, I imagine the loudest noises will be crickets.
Obama continues torture regime

"mainstream" media is a bit behind in the times. Torture is being carried out now, not under Bush, but under Obomba. Oh well, it explains all those years of using the Clinton admin. as the excuse for everything while Bush was Prez. Guess the real truth will come out after the next election, when a new Prez is sworn in.
the crickets sure are singing loudly tonight. Must be a clear night.

That torture was still on-going.
Probably more than a week ago I posted here about an article I read in The New Yorker (or Harpers?) by Jane Mayer saying that the Obama Administration was still torturing.
We should all be thoroughly disgusted by any members of Congress and the Obama Administration for not dealing with the issue of torture immediately upon taking office.
What can we do ConcernedCanuck?
Thank God for the ACLU, Glenn Greenwald, Jonathan Turley, Rachel Maddow, Keith Olbermann, Jon Stewart, Bill Maher and others who have access to the airwaves.
But, seriously. What can ordinary Americans do about this other than speak out against it publicly, lobby Congress and Obama (I've even sent letters to Eric Holder!) etc.?
if I offended you. Honestly. You are one of the posters on here that don't flow along party lines, and I greatly respect that. It's quite obvious who is party only, whenever one of these posts comes along.
It is the right thing to do. Expose these criminals and shout it from the rooftops. However, there seems to be many on here that shout so loudly "Ahhh, that Bush and Cheney are murderous thugs that need to be brought to justice" and when someone shows them, hey gang, Obomba is doing the EXACT same thing, there is no response, or lots of personal attacks until you do the searches for them and show them the links to honest links. They are like reverse trolls. Not rightwing neocons, but diehard supporters of the status quo, if it favours their party. Sad and pathetic.
What to do? I have no clue. Keep on posting the truth? The problem seems to be that Americans (and other nations) support killing in their name, if they agree with it. And torture. And anything else, as long as it is their party doing it. Clinton killed thousands with bombs and Dem supporters love him. Bush did the same and the blogs exploded. Now Obomba is doing the same, and nothing.
I always enjoy your posts. That goes for Alice X as well.
You are two smart, fine ladies!
:)
Sheer depravity. They videotaped each session for their sick fantasies. The sad thing is, Gitmo is just one of many such places. The evil continues.
The silence from Obama and his supporters is deafening and very disappointing.
I'm with ya, CC! We have to keep up the pressure!
is wrong, no matter what party does it. Some people can't seem to grasp that when police arrest a murderer, the first thing they don't ask is what political party are they affiliated with.
Sorry about that PSYOPS....BECAUSE PHYSICAL WOUNDS HEAL. But pysical now that I think about it, pysical isn't to bad either. Been drinking.
Say, isn't that a frozen treat? Make mine chocolate!
Cheers, Kilgore Trout!
;)
didn't Bush and Cheeney say that these techniques saved many lives and stopped multiple attacks? I just don't know what to believe now. Joby Warrick will be enemy number one on the conservative blogs now.
What department of Justice are you talking about. Bush?
Take your pick.
If someone would have reported it, the Bush DOJ might have explained what they thought was the LEGAL basis for what they doing. With all of the twist and turns that entailed.
The current DOJ has stated they will not pursue prosecutions.
So, as I say. take your pick.
The Nuremberg tribunal made it clear (the US wrote the charter) that following orders was not a defense.
Unfortunately it was not long afterwards that our own Nazis, homegrown and imported, took over here.
Hey Miss Hairdo, the word you're looking for but can't find is torture. Those prisoners were tortured.
There's a name for interrogators who wanted to resign in protest but did not: accomplices.
few reporters investigating the continued torture policies?
Threatening to quit a job and actually quitting are two enormously different things. I have never threatened to quit a job. I have quit a job and told them why.
I don't believe these people. More likely it's CYA in the CIA.
100% of the detaines wanted to quit also ! .
Simply amazing. A post on torture, 26 posts altogether. An article on a fictional movie character...over 80 and counting. Humans show their true colours, eh? It is so terrible that these crimes took place...oh a shiny rock!! Once again, even blogs prove the popularity of American Idol. We seem to be de-evolving.
Let's not look back. Let's look forward. Same country same torture. It was so courageous of the American people to elect a black man....to be the new Torturer-in-Chief. Read it yourself. Here's the link : http://www.zanesvilletimesrecorder.com/apps/p...

..., and the ones who did quit, are the ones who should be placed in charge of the agencies. They are the only ones whose integrity renders them trustworthy.
