McConnell: Stopping Obama's re-election still 'single most important' goal
Even with the country on the brink of default, the Senate's highest ranking Republican says his "single most important" goal is to make Barack Obama a one-term president.
"The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president," Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told National Journal's Major Garrett in October.
Fox News' Bret Baier asked McConnell Sunday if that was still his major objective.
"Well, that is true," McConnell replied. "That's my single most important political goal, along with every active Republican in the country."
"But that is in 2012," he added. "Our biggest goal for this year is get this country straightened out and we can't get this country straightened out if we don't do something about spending, about deficit, about debt and get the economy moving again. So our goal is to have a robust vibrant economy to benefit all Americans."
McConnell told Baier that a "Grand Bargain," where Republicans agree to tax hikes in exchange for cutting Social Security and Medicare benefits, was likely off the table.
"I think it is. Everything they told me and the Speaker is to get a big package would require big tax increases in the middle of the economic situation that is extraordinarily difficult with 9.2% unemployment. We think it's a terrible idea. It's a job-killer."
"Nobody is talk about not raising the debt ceiling," McConnell later insisted.
Taking a break from debt limit talk, the Senate's top Republican also said that it was time to send more terrorism suspects to the detention center at Guantanamo Bay.
"They are going the try a couple of foreign terrorists in Kentucky, my state, whose fingerprints were found on IED's in Iraq. These foreign terrorists are enemy combatants. They should be taken to Guantanamo. They should be tried in military commissions."

That's why part of their political strategy is to disenfranchise as many potentially Democratic voting voters as possible. And just in case they come up a little short they've got SCOTUS waiting in the wings for Bush V. Gore II.
Very courageous of him. Glad to know we have him in the senate with all the less important things to worry about like the default, jobs, economy, Afghanistan, health care. Don't they realize, if they cut government spending, that means few jobs, which means less money going into the pockets of real people, which means they have less to spend which means demand goes down, which means companies lay off people and there are less jobs (and the vicious cycle continues). That's the real definition of "jobs killer".

We expect Obama to top participating in the distract and confuse and give in game the Republicans run every time and get on with doing what the tax payers put him in office to do. The right is not the majority .. that is why they need a propaganda network, an echo chambers, and corporate voting machines to won elections .. It is the only way they can make their size and numbers appear sizable enough to compete with liberals. There was ever any doubt that this was the number one priority of the GOP? I'm to the point where if Obama signs a bill that cuts Social Security and Medicare, I'm voting against him no matter who or what is running against him.

Kinda my thinking too. The thing is we need to be prepared with a new vision because you know the people betting on the fall already know how they want to convince you to rebuild it. Let me suggest a forward thinking vision.. making each individual more self sustaining using sustainable energy, sustainable vertical farming and roof gardens etc. (to be brief)

What if you could fix the economy and bring unemployment back to 5%, in trade for another Obama term? Would you take that deal?

It is becoming increasingly clear that Obama is going along with the radical right agenda. How else can you explain the outright lying the right has been doing as they crash and burn the middle class while the White House either lets them or occasionally respectfully pushes back. We are not talking about a situation where the consequences are not catastrophic.

decided that they weren't going to voted because they didn't get everything they wanted. The republicans took control of the House. Good plan. 2012 is coming up and a large percentage of the democrats are not happy with Obama because he is not radical enough for them and because of that they are planning not to vote or they are planning to vote republican just to show Obama. But before you do this just take a look at the states that the republican control because that is what is going to happen nationwide and worse. The Republicans won't be playing, they will do as much damage as they can get away with. And they will be able to get away with a lot since the Supreme Court will be on their side. I expect them to destroy social security and medicare. And I expect them to go after civil rights. I also expect them to get rid of income tax, corporate income tax and estate tax and replace them with a sale tax so that tax burden will fall on the poor and the middle class. I also expect them to put into place rules that will prevent their changes to be overturned.

In order to stop Obama's re-election the Repubs have to come up with something like a legitimate candidate, one that has a real chance of getting within the Diebold margin of error in the election. Mitchie probably believes he's on a mission from God.
So how is it that this guy says things like this yet the president still kisses his ass? If someone said something like that behind my back, I would think twice about inviting him over for tea and crumpets. I would have all my senator friends act as in-betweens.
