McCain pushes back against Cheney: Interrogations violated law
Sen. John McCain disagrees with former Vice President Dick Cheney's claim that enhanced interrogation techniques helped keep the country safe. "I think the interrogations were in violation of the Geneva Conventions and the convention against torture that we ratified under President Reagan," McCain told CBS' Bob Schieffer Sunday.
"I think these interrogations, once publicized, helped al Qaeda recruit. I got that from an al Qaeda operative in a prison camp in Iraq... I think that the ability of us to work with our allies was harmed. And I believe that information, according go the FBI and others, could have been gained through other members," said McCain.
McCain disagreed with Attorney General Holder's decision to probe interrogation techniques that went beyond legal recommendations.

Uh oh. Looks like someone's just asking to get shot in the face...
Johnny McFlyboy better be careful ...

if McCain says it won't ever, ever happen again, that's good enough for me.
No shit eh?
God forbid anyone actually looks into the breathtakingly reprehensible actions of the former government, because you know..it's better to look forward than look back. Also,You can Lead a Horse to Water, but you Can't Make Him Drink, plus It's far Better to Light a candle Than Curse the Darkness..and so on.

Ah. We shouldn't have let go of our secrets, eh McCain?
Cheney wants to be supreme leader of the Regipizan Nation. Look how obviously wrong he is.

"techniques that went beyond legal recommendations" are torture, why not just state that?

Nothing that comes out of McLame's mouth has any credibility at all. And it won't until he comes clean on exactly why he is preventing families of POW/MIAs from Vietnam from getting information about their loved ones.

I pledge allegiance to the Constitution of the United States of America, and to the republic which it established, one nation from many peoples, promising liberty and justice for all
And let's not forget his almost single-handed push, back in the early 80's, to gut the funding for the recovery of any POW's/MIA's that might still be alive in Vietnam.
You'd think such a fine, upstanding American hero such as he would do everything humanly possible to help his fellow soldiers...instead of doing the exact opposite.
The big question for this issue and so many others is where are the real journalists in this country?!!
"talks like he's got sense, the next day he'll say something pulled straight from his ass."
....um....reading the stuff above under the video...seems to me he didn't even wait until the next day to pull something from his ass....I'll bet he never even listens to what he's saying.
but that's just my opinion.
OPPORTUNISM.
He is the slimiest of the slimey...on a par with Cheney himself.
Where was this kind of talk during his campaign?
You know, he spent some time with the Kennedy clan over the weekend, maybe some of their altruism effected his grey matter...temporaily, of course.
That's wonderful Senator, so where were you as these interrogations were happening? Did you feel adequately informed about the program, and if so why didn't you say anything?
I'm glad this clown isn't President. I'm happy he's trying to be the lone voice who makes occasional sense, but he's a pushover -- worse than Bush.
Some people use violence to get their way, and it works for them, up to a point. Too bad sometimes these people get into political office. Cheney is one of these people.

Dear McGramps,
So violating the letter of the Law is NOT good enough for you to support a criminal probe OF said violations?

I believe he should try an old style campaign to restore American values. Pehaps a bus tour with town hall meetings. I bet he could win the Republican nomination and do something bold, like name a woman as his running mate.
It is about time the talk shows on Sunday had someone like him instead of the same old Cheney and Newt.

When McWars plays a liberal it's just political theater to placate the masses. If he's criticizing Holder his words are meaningless and empty. If he supported Holder's efforts to bring BushCo to justice, he'd be more believable but he'd probably have to become a Democrat.

How do you spell HYPOCRITE?
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Former Vice President Dick Cheney said he might refuse to speak with a prosecutor investigating suspected CIA prisoner abuses, a probe he branded as political and bad for national security.
I have no doubt, no matter what he says, that McCain (and all Republicans) would stand behind Cheney refusing to be interviewed by the Special Prosecutor. They are above the law.
Um, you do realize that pretty much all crimes take place in the past and that if you only ever "look forward," you'll never prosecute anything?
I thought when Clinton got caught with his, uh, hand in the, uh, cookie jar, the most importantest importantest "won't someone think of the children?!?" important thing ever in the history of important things was that the president abide by the rule of law.
I seem to recall one party in particular making that point again...and again...and again...and again.
No one is above the law, right? The rule of law is the foundation of the very thing we're supposedly trying to protect, right?
Or are laws only for people who aren't doing "the important work?!?"
McCain is a dead beat loser! To say that someone broke the lawbut, they shouldn't be punished? He's an ass of the highest order. By the way, he should be the poster child for healthcare reform. If any of us had the type of cancer he has and needed more than one surgery we'd be screwed. The insurance company would declare that the sugery didn't work the first time since the cancer came back and he'd be forced to skip the additional surgeries and would likely have died. Fortunately for him he has Cindy's money. Since these Republican trolls feel comfortable saying Kennedy would have died sooner if he had Obama's healtcare why should we let them get away with that garbage without pointing out McCain's problem?
And you gotta love the jerk pushing against 'government-run' insurance...let's see, when he was born, his daddy was in the military...um...shall we say, 'Government-run' insurance all his life (even benefits of college I think)..
and when he was old enough, he got into the military..um...shall we say, 'Government-run' insurance...and he's a veteran..."Government-run insurance...and um..on the Federal payroll....
'nuff said.
Not just the Geneva Conventions and the Convention Against Torture! They were in violation of US Code as well. And that US code specifically calls for life in prison for torturing detainees in US custody and the death penalty for death resulting from torture. VERY specifically!! THAT IS OUR LAW! How our "media" can dare to not be 100% behind full investigations and prosecutions is a sad statement on the state "journalism" in this country. It's no different then if they were calling for a known child kidnapping/rape/prostitution ring to not be prosecuted. In fact it's exactly like that.
It only matters in cases like this when it is convenient for the narrative that has been decided upon.
And that narrative is: the "aggressive interrogators" were protecting America, God bless the inglourious basterds! And if they stepped over the line or broke a few rules, at least the got results, which those eggheads downtown, er, in Washington never understand.
The narrative here is Martin Riggs, John McClane and Jack Bauer on one side (rock ribbed Republicans) and the EPA pencilneck from Ghostbusters on the other.
And Dick Cheney ain't afraid of no ghosts. To quote Dr. Venkman, he has saved the lives...of millions...of registered voters.
That's the narrative. The law doesn't matter one rancid dingo's kidney because we already have the graphics printed.
to law is anarchy. They might think they are ready for that but they're not.
We need to see a mud wrestling match between Liz Cheney (that annoying defender of her father's criminal administration who was on This Weekthis morning) and John McCain. If McCain can maintain his nerve, he has a unique perspective in defending the need for an investigation.
And here all this time I figured she had decided to stfu....silly me. But it has certainly been a nice few weeks.
So, he thinks it was wrong, he thinks it didn't keep the country safe, and he thinks it helped al Qaeda. But he doesn't think it should be investigated.
Somebody help me because that just does not compute.
