Gingrich: Romney Has 'Policy of Carpet Bombing' Opponents
Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich on Sunday said that he had an uphill battle to win the GOP nomination because "Massachusetts liberal" Mitt Romney was "carpet bombing" him with negative ads.
Fox News host Chris Wallace asked Gingrich why polls showed him losing over 15 points in Florida in less than a week.
"Governor Romney has the ability to raise an amazing amount of money out of Wall Street, from Goldman Sachs to all the major banks," Gingrich explained. "And he has a basic policy of carpet bombing his opponent. He doesn't build up Mitt Romney, he just tries to tear down whoever he's running against. And it has an affect."
"I think it is going to be close," the former House Speaker said of his chances in the Florida primary. "We have the two polls this morning that show that Santorum and I collectively are bigger than Romney. Romney beats me as long as we split the conservative vote. We have a tremendous effort underway to reach to conservatives to get them to see that the only effective way to stop a Massachusetts liberal from becoming our nominee is to vote for Newt Gingrich."
The NBC News/Marist poll released Sunday showed Romney with 42 percent support in Florida, a 15-point lead over Gingrich's 27 percent. Santorum was in third place with 16 percent support.

lol yes. i never said he was a nice and moral person. but Gingrich is right on a few things here. contrasted to Romney, he does have ideas and he generally does stick to his principles (as much as any politician anyway). He has a few things going for him, from a republican perspective.

Gingrich was run out of town by his own party after his "shut down the govt" ploy blew up in his face. Some master.
would know that carpet bombing was a singularly ineffective technique that generally achieved nothing. That's something Mitt's dad would have passed on to his son, having learned it from McNamara. Trying to bomb Vietnam back into the Stone Age wasn't terribly effective because Vietnam was already there. As is Newt. I think we may safely attribute Newt's recent lack of success entirely to Newt. Organizing an insurgency requires organizational skills. Even an insurgent election campaign. Newt has none.

I figured that I'd see if someone else was going to write this before I did. You're spot on: Gingrich, the bomb thrower, is almost the sleaziest attack hound that I've ever heard, and perhaps the sleaziest, more deceitful attack pol of the modern period. He's getting a taste of his own medicine, and he's choking on it.
To have him bitch about Romney's use of attack ads is laughable, but then again, laughter is what we can expect from Gingrich's effort to become President.
