Durbin 'skeptical' of Afghanistan surge
The senior senator from President Barack Obama's home state isn't convinced that the plan to send more troops to Afghanistan will result in success. Sen. Dick Durbin told Fox News' Chris Wallace that he wanted to talk to the president about withdrawal plans before committing to vote to support the additional troops.
"I'm skeptical as to whether 30,000 more troops will make a difference," said Durbin.
"I will meet with the president, I'm sure, and have conversations about that deadline which appears to be interpreted different ways by different people," he said. "I would like to believe by July 2011 we will be in a position where we're going to see our troops really coming home."

It is all about an orderly withdrawl.
The new strategy in March was to get out of the vast parts of open spaces and return to the cities and population centers. The Generals say they need more to achieve that goal.
That is the first step to bringing the troops home.
It is not a "surge" it is a contraction of the real estate we are trying to cover so we can turn over authority.
"I know that there are people who do not love their fellow
man, and I hate people like that! " ~ Tom Lehrer (1928 - )
I'm from Texas, so you know I come withdrawl.
Diabolus est Deus Inversus
More troops so there can be fewer.
Just how stupid do you think I am?
And the only change is the Names on the White House.. We are being feed the Same BS using different words..
I didn't vote for Hillary because she voted for the war , then tried to use the excuse that that she ask Rice did she think Bush was use the bill she voted for to go to war... But Obama seems to have selected the same advisors which Hillary would have and the same policies..
I want to vote for candidates which say what they mean ,,, and ,,,intent to do as they say... Not Candidates which talk out of both sides of their mouths like Obama and the democrats have done..
The bailout which they claim they were going to have oversight over the money .... A D... LIE>
This Health Bill having a public option ... A D... LIE>
All these elected officials are for the war become they are trying to control the middle east for countries like Saudi Arabia , Israel , Turkey and others at the expense of our military and economy...
We HAVE went over the cliff on our economy and our social programs ,, while the elected officials still do not get it OR DO THEY CARE IF THEY GET IT OR NOT>..
All they are trying to do is shut us up , while they finish this transfer of power and wealth to the Global Monopoly Empires...

More and more Dems that are dissatisfied with some of O's policies will show up on Fox. Fox will then declare this a revolt within the Democratic party, and of course promote that the Rethugs are more united and capable of leadership. And of course Obama will whine about Fox, and continute to do what he's been doing, which is odd, as he's doing the kind of stuff that Fox and it's masters love.
Emanuel and the centrists has taken over the democratic party and their policies and actions are not far from that of the previous administration..
The Democrats , along with republicans and the news media are blaming anyone that disagrees with them the left... They are blaming the left or progressives for their lost of INDEPENDENTS and their base , while the REAL reason they are losing support is become they IS NO change in their corporate policies.
These administration is starting to smell just like the previous one..
SCREW wall street and These Global Empires they are the ones which have help destroy our jobs and economy...
What has Obama and the democrats done for MAIN STREET.. No one can be as dumb as they are pretending to be about helping American get jobs.. They are the ones which did nothing to stop them from being outsourced for the previous 8 plus years...
So they really believe that Americans are that dumb.... If we except the BS and propaganda they are throwing at us than I guess we are...

Wrong then.
Wrong now.
It seems these politicians are never asked the big question:
What does it "really" mean to be "successful" in Afghanistan or for that manner, Iraq? Anybody know the truth?
Their homeworld was a place called Earth, located in an uninteresting part of the galaxy. They had an expression: pride goeth before a fall. Their pride was their undoing. I know. I was there....They did not listen, of course. Arrogant men never do.
They just give you BS with no answer...
They try to mix build the country up with using the military to defend them....
They want US OUT... We never know just how many soldiers , war contractors and mercenary army they have sent to Afghanistan ,, Pakistan , Iraq and special forces in Iran...
We spend over half of our national budget on the Military , which is more than all other countries combined...
The military is running our government and our policies ,, along side of these Global Monopolies..
The elected democrats policies , are so much like the republicans now that one can not tell the difference except for their (D) or (R) beside their name when publish..

Let me throw this one out:
Take care of the people at home first, before you spend money of war.
i'm much more disturbed and concerned about his recent comment about considering that damn trigger b.s. to entice snowe into a vote... for a watered down so-called health care bill...
right now, i'm trusting that President Obama is doing what's best about our foreign policy, and cleaning up that mess... he excells at that...
it's the health care policy that needs attention now... RIGHT now!!!
i'm anxious to know how it went for that today...
Afghanistan is not so much a country than it is a loose collection of mainly rural tribes. The Soviets put 100K troops into Afghanistan for nearly 10 years, all in support of a socialist "central government" that was not any more widely accepted as the current puppet Karzai government.
The USA's (Dubya's) stated goal when invading Afghanistan was to destroy al-Queda, capture or kill Osama bin Laden, and punish the Taliban for failing to turn OBL over to us. Today al-Queda exist largely only in neighboring Pakistan, in the Tribal Frontier. Their base camps and infrastructure in Afghanistan are destroyed. Reliable estimates are that there are fewer than 100 al-Queda in the entire region. Osama bin Laden was allowed to escape from Tora Bora into Pakistan, and then was declared, by Dubya and Cheney that "OBL no longer mattered" and "OBL was of no consequence". The Taliban, which ten years ago was the closest thing Afghanistan had to a central government, has been deposed and routed, and most certainly punished. Mission accomplished?
So, why are we still there? With the "surge" of USA and NATO ally troops to be vested at 100K, same as the Soviets, in order to deal with less than 100 al-Queda militants, at a cost of 100 Million USD$ per year? 1000 troopers and 1 Million USD$ per al-Queda operative per year? Really? Does al-Queda really represent that great a threat in the region, considering that even Arab Muslims are considered "undesirable foreigners" there?
Or, are we there to prop up a corrupt puppet government in Kabul, recognized as the government really only of Kabul, to the cost of 100 Billion USD$ per year, and thus far nearly 1,500 US soldiers perished? Are we there for nation-building, in a nation that has never really ever been a nation? Are we there to destroy the Taliban, whose greatest recruiting tools are (1) the presence of infidel invaders and occupiers, and (2) retribution for the "collateral damage" deaths of countless civilians? Even the corrupt Karzai government has begun making moves toward reconciliation with the Taliban.
The USA military has trained to fight and defeat an opposing organized military force by always carrying the offensive forward against a clearly defined enemy. Taking, holding, and stabilizing territory is archaic, so World War I-like. And yet, that is the only way to defeat an enemy not only engaged in guerilla warfare, but which also has the support of the local population. Using a mobile superior force against an even more mobile smaller force is like squeezing an inflated balloon - where you squeeze gets smaller only as long as that superior force is applied. We tried such an approach in asymmetric warfare 30 years ago in Vietnam. That effort, using similar tactics, failed there in spite of having a total in-theater force of 550K troops. Are we prepared to double or triple that number of troops in Afghanistan (1 Million plus) in order to take, hold, and stabilize territory there? Would not such an increase in allied troop strength in Afghanistan have exactly the same effect upon the various tribal groups that the Soviet occupation did - swell the ranks of the insurgents fighting foreign invaders?
When you come to the realization that all you are doing is digging a deeper hole (counter-productive), isn't it time to stop digging deeper and start looking for alternative (political) solutions? Another Nobel Prize winner, not Barrack Obama but Albert Einstein, defined "insanity is following the same process, time after time, and expecting a different result". Our continued presence, let alone escalation of the war, in Afghanistan is not insane, how?
"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."
