Dave N: I'm sure Glenn Beck will take comfort in the serene knowledge that his own ratings are kicking those of Joe Scarborough's "Morning Joe," but it must still be somewhat disconcerting for him to see the conservative Republican ex-congressman break into uncontrollable gales of laughter upon viewing a compendium of Beck's greatest hits of the past couple of months at Fox.

On the other hand, it's comforting to know we aren't alone in being astonished by the bizarre, slow-motion train wreck that has been Beck's show. Indeed, no one on the "Morning Joe" panel seemed inclined to defend Beck's bizarre behavior, except to note that his ratings speak for themselves.

Scarborough tries to ameliorate his derision once he regains control, but the damage was done. Anyone want to wager whether Beck responds?

Great quote from the British gal...who is she? Tina.....? "Frightfully strange man..." Too funny.

I believe she said that as to what Queen Elizabeth would say if she saw Beck, which made it even funnier.

I have hated that smug Joe Scarborough for years. But watching him laugh at Beck, I love Joe now! Can we snip that out and just send it viral?

But she really won me over with her "Somebody Get This Blubbering Buffoon A Kleenex!" I heard everyone of my British friends saying the same thing in their own voices with that.

But another guy of whom I'm no fan Shepard Smith really took the piss with a mockery of Beck, ON HIS OWN NETWORK. Forget Scar's monkey howls, and pant pissing and fobbing it off as an amusing email off of his Blackberry.

Beck truly acts like a guy filming himself before going on a mass murdering rampage.

For once I'm in agreement with Scarborough...Beck's painfully hilarious.

I find Beck's whole crying thing absolutely creepy--as I'm sure your uncle probably creeped you out whenever he went on a toot & a tangent.

My uncle was better than anything on television.

It's all schtick. Beck was on CNN for what? Two, three years? I don't recall him ever blubbering or crying once during that time.
Since Janurary, he's been on FNS and the he's become a regular Niagra with the tears. It's all an act to get people to tune in to his show to see what he'll do next. Beck is a true media whore.

That it is all schtick.
Beck strikes me--and I'm sure a lot of people--as a deeply disturbed individual whose emotions, though possibly genuine, may spring from a very deranged and dark place, yet find some release masquerading as patriotism or whatever.Hair trigger displays of emotion are also typical of depression and addiction.Text book "dry drunk" behavior.

Yes, spontaneous crying like that is indeed typical of depression. This guy is mentally ill. He needs serious help because otherwise, he'll probably go berserk and do something very dangerous.

Isn't a "dry drunk" one who is on the wagon but refuses to seek out counseling to deal with their newfound sobriety, like GWB? From what I know of Beck he has had counseling to deal with his problem.

Fox News is a channel that is expert at playing with viewer's emotions. Every one of those assclowns is expert at getting people all riled up through their rants, tears, and kneejerk reactions. Fox is THE newschannel for the emotionally unstable, and Beck is now their main Bozo.

Thanks for the Shepard Smith link, Miss Kitty--like you (and probably most here), I find highschool letter man Sheppy Smith a loathesome thing, but I thoroughly enjoyed that particular clip.

What I found strange, though, was that it seemed so out of character... or rather, so un-teamplayer-esque of Shep. Even that bottom dwelling ain't-half-the-man-his-old-man-is GOP hag Chris Wallace tried to steer Sheppy-boy back onto the good ship lolly pop, but to no avail...and glad I am of it.

Great clip.

I was shocked, SHOCKED! I tell ya, to find myself thinking "right the fuck on, Shep!" He's always been creeptastic to me...

How about some new MEDS? Or get him OFF meds? In either event, Beck has gone over the edge of sanity and control into the completely ridiculous. If he's not a journalist and his show is not on Comedy Central, what type of entity is he, exactly? He defies categorization, not to mention sanity.

It's been bugging me for some time who Beck reminds me of, then when I saw the montage it came to me

That guy that did the "leave Britney alone" thing on youtube (Chris Crocker?)

I'm sure the Britney soundtrack could replace Becks words and you wouldn't notice

Morton downey jr remember the guy who preceeded Limbaugh? rating whores

by weeping and acting really overwrought.

....and declaring: "I do it because I CARE about this country"! Sure he does.

As Keith Olbermann said on "Countdown" last night, this is the man that 4 years after the Twin Towers fell, proclaimed that he "hates the 9/11 families. The more I see them, the more I hate them".

He loves our country when it's convenient to do so and when he thinks the time is right for him to benefit from doing so.

It's not nice to laugh...

... Glenn Beck's labile behavior is because

1. he is on the wrong medication

2. he is growing a tumor in his frontal lobes -or-

3. he is just f#@king NUTS!

I'll vote for #3.

Would you let the man alone? He is indeed insane and cannot help himself.

Thatswhy I throw up every time i think of what the greedy obstructionist pigs have donr to it. ARRRAGGHHH

get good ratings, too.

Also, a set of police cars chasing a slow moving White Bronco kinda got a lot of viewers.

I doubt Beck will say anything about this but if he does he'll probably say it's okay if someone laughs at him just because he loves his country so damned much.

I have a bone to pick with Mika. Does she have to be so overly dramatic about everything? Jesus, she makes some comment on everything that happens and ask questions to which she already knows the answers. I would have more respect for her if she spoke up when she has a thought rather than just to hear her own voice. When she refers to herself as "Mommy" that's too much.

It might be true that Beck loves his counrty, but I bet he loves his ratings even more.

Keith Olbermann summed it up perfectly, If Ruppert Murdoch or Roger Ailes could make more money and get higher ratings by promoting a left wing agenda on FNS, they would change direction in a heartbeat.

Does Kissinger have any kids? And if so, why don't they have "second banana" morning show gigs, too?

)O(

I don't have an exact quote, but in Mein Kampf Hitler spoke of people that will simply look at the bloodiest road accident, or beatings of people right in front of their eyes with either indifference of amusement, and not interfere.

but that show is on at like 4 or 5 AM on the west coast (fine with me). Beck is on in prime time. I think that is the reason Beck's ratings are higher.

I think a lot of people watch Beck just to see what fu*king bizarre thing he'll do next. The guy is strange for sure, but his strangeness is the only thing he has going for him. Soon his crying thing will be old and he'll have to come up with another strange thing. Everyone wonders what that will be.

He's like one of them Christian evangelists who will maintain his flock permanently, until he is accused of having gay sex or buying drugs.

tv evangelist at some point in that original clip which I find both odd and revealing at the same time. As if he knows exactly what he is doing and is putting on an act.

Maybe he's not losing it and simply pretending to be.

Does anyone know anything about these "ratings" that we hear so much about? I can't believe Beck is actually attracting viewers who agree with him. I find it hard to believe that pompous asshole O'Reilly is highly rated either. Anyone know about these things?

all seem to have Fox on all the time. Some taverns and cocktail lounges have them on also. Watchers maybe, but I'll bet most aren't paying any attention.

)O(

That's true at the VA hospital as well, and people ignore it. Now that some TV's play CNN there's some relief.

Cheney only watches Fox. Maybe he's got his secret assassination hit squad to go around and tune every TV they can find to Fox News.

whenever I'm in a business or hospital, etc. where FOX is on the tube, I ask the person in charge to change the station. If I'm asked why I want it changed, I explain that Fox is not a news station, but rather a propaganda outlet. Usually, the station will be changed. (Maybe I look like I could cause trouble if not indulged.)If nobody in charge seems to be around, I change the station myself.

)O(

Frightfully strange man...

Indeed

That's a fucking freak show on Fox...period. If I could get Mike Tyson, Scott Peterson, O.J. Simpson together to do a talk show, it would get ratings also.

Beck laid it all out folks ...he says he watched "Network" a few months
now he wants to get the Howard Beale ratings effect ...
he basically said it himself ...

hilarious that at first Joe thought Tina was calling him a buffoon til his sidekick said to him "not you ..."

One of them likened him to a "charlatan TV Evangalist" which I belive I saw postd here a few weeks ago when this travesty first hit the internet!

blubbering buffoon, indeed!

Jeez, I can remember the good old days when a man bawling on TV was considered a whining crybaby. God help you if you cried in the military, because it didn't take your drill sergeant to stop you, your comrades would certainly give you a blanket party (i.e., a severe beating) until you learned to suck it up and stop acting like a spoiled child.

Wassamatter, Glenn, the election didn't go your way? Wahhhhhh! Spoiled little man-bitch.

I, for one, am outraged that the Morning Joe staff would cast such aspersions on baboons. They are wonderful, intelligent creatures, and would never act as ridiculous as Glenn Beck. I don't know what the baboons did to deserve this kind of scorn. I'm sure there haven't been very many baboons who have had dead interns show up in their offices under suspicious circumstances. There is no excuse for...

Oh, you said "buffoon"?

Never mind.

to get an idea where Beck will be going next try watching a few old videos of Todd Nugent aka The Motor City Meathead. He used to finish his shows by working himself into a three chord thrash frenzy and then collapse on stage. At this point one of his roadies would come out and drape his prostate form with an ermine cape. Beck will use an American flag.

Todd Nugent must be Ted's even more ultra-conservative little brother.

Yep, the "Motor City Madman," he who wrote the immortal line, "Wang Dang, sweet poon-tang," is Ted Nugent.

And I sure hope that his roady came out and covered his prostrate form, or I suppose he could have used more of a loincloth rather than a cape.

I haven't cried in like 5, 6, 7 years. I get a little misted up from time to time but I haven't sobbed in a long, long time. the longer I go, the healthier it feels.

Glenn Beck is a nancy boy. the GOP - used to be made up of such awesome, tough guy macho men. what a bunch of nancies they've become. the toughest, meanest, ballsiest GOP'ers these days are Ann Coulter and Michele Malkin. kinda pathetic.

One thing I don't get is why that guy on morning Joe is just now getting around to learning what a buffoon Beck actually is. Why did it take so long?

when Beck was on CNN there was a "Republican" president. But come to think of it that is when he truly should have been "ballin his eyes out"

That conjures up some disturbing imagery. I hope you meant "bawlin' his eyes out".

They keep talking about teabag parties though.

No, we are talking about Conservatives here.

.

...we aren't alone in being astonished by the bizarre, slow-motion train wreck that has been Beck's show...

Well, it's all just fun and games until somebody puts an eye out.

Or goes into a church to shoot libruls.

I'm from Utah and crying is often used to show sincerity, deep emotion, or inspiration in their church meetings. Beck's end-of-the-world-second-coming-of-Jesus rhetoric is also very Mormonish. He will be the MC at the local 4th of July celebration for the second year...before that the county had Sean Hannity as MC.

P.S. Did I mention Saint Glenn is Mormon?

*sigh* I know, I've really got to move.

The secret of success is sincerity. Once you can fake that you've got it made.
--Jean Giraudoux

The not-so-funny part is, Glen Beck is the American media. He just beat the rest of the gaggle to the end product, and they're jealous of his ratings.

Ratings, in their business, is like dick size. Size matters.

"I'm not a journalist..."

No fuckin' shit.

Every used car lot in America has a better con artist than Beck. I don't want to sound elitist, but I don't want his audience voting for my candidate.

I'm also laughing at the Reslug, bedwetting, buffoons that watch this mentally challenged shit.

)O(

Right now the Leher Newshour is doing a story on one town in Michigan where one in 10 students is homeless, and how the school's are struggling to deal with it.

"Right now the Leher Newshour is doing a story on one town in Michigan where one in 10 students is homeless, and how the school's are struggling to deal with it."

That sounds like a scary story. And very sad. The Lehrer Newshour is on PBS, right? I'm gonna have to watch that.

Should grab a box of kleenex and get a room.

Either

a) those are crocodile tears, meant to garner ratings for freak show appeal

or

b) the guy has serious mental problems and needs help.

Either way, you certainly have to worry about someone who is either mentally unsound or is attempting so desperately to manipulate the public and rouse them to action against their own country.

...O'Reilly?, Limbaugh The "Achiever" who never worked a day in his life?, Hannity the, the, sputter, gasp, ...I can't go on. This is a cavalcade of symptomatology....WHO are they appealing to, exactly? Roger Ailes is a "genius"? of what? Manipulating the weak-minded? This is a desirable thing? Ugh...I grew up in a different country and craven swine like Ailes changed it, not the non existent "left"

)O(

Biscuit as in the English sense, or those bready things that come from goo in a tube, that would threaten to pull our teeth out as we ate our mom's hash?

have never, repeat NEVER watched his show.

Sorry folks but, that was the funniest thing I hve seen in a long time.

Maybe his true calling is stand up.

What a maroon!

Joe

Scarborough makes me very....quizzical at times, but sometimes he hits the nail on the head, and it keeps me from hating him. Honestly, his riff on "is he parodying Stephen Colbert's parody" is effing brilliant. I can't wait to see the Stephen Colbert version. Oh wait, maybe he's already done it and I missed it....

that brought up Stephen Colbert. Joe just agreed with him.

...seeing it all at once makes me realize:
I had no idea it was THIS bad. Beck is a loon, faking or not (I am not sure what would be worse, frankly); he is a toy surprise short of a Happy Meal.

Hahaha...I'll give The Scar one thing:
He has a good guffaw.
