Congressman Grayson: Stories Of Those Who Died Because They Didn't Have Health Insurance
October 28, 2009 C-SPAN
Alan Grayson reads from some of the stories shared at his site Names of the Dead:
Every year, more than 44,000 Americans die simply because they have no health insurance. Add your story and watch Congressman Grayson read your stories on the House floor.

Part 2
Part 3
Heather: My fellow video contributor here at Video Cafe, CSPANJunkie has more to share for our visitors over at You Tube and at his corner of those Internets tubes at MoxNews.com. Sadly You Tube shut down a couple of the best political/news channels on You Tube when he finally got the axe as so many of us have as well that are doing similar work. I was truly saddened when his CSPANJunkie.org and VotersThink.org accounts were taken down from You Tube back in August. He's a braver person than I am for going back to them after all the work he did that was lost. I lost one of my accounts with about 600 videos a while back and that was no where near the amount of work lost on those two accounts.
If anyone wants to show him some love for sticking around after losing thousands of videos on You Tube but still keeping up the fight and to show some appreciation for his contributions here, go kick him a few bucks at his new site. I'm sure any contributions or words of encouragement will help lift his spirits after losing all that hard work.

Do you think because you criticize Alan Grayson- then turn a blind eye to the ppl who have died for the lack of health care is something that is not important or emotional?? Go tell their loved ones how you think it’s funny you fool. Do you think you are some sort of hero with journalistic integrity? How about decency and respect? I hope that you or your loved ones never have to experience the heart break those families had to endure!
Apologize to the ppl who lost loved ones you @ss……
You smarmy lil prick!!!

another Grayson clip we have up here at Video Cafe.

I realize that there is only so much "room" on the main page of the site, but I wish there were a better way to organize the site so clips like CSPANJunkie's EXCELLENT one here can get "fast-tracked" more easily. I'm not trying to be critical, and I'm no site designer, but it's kinda sad that it only has five comments so far.
I think many regular posters here don't really understand the multilayered set-up, and even ones like me who are aware of it just don't find it all that user-friendly.
Peace.

in the works and that is one of the issues being addressed, so they're working on it.
don't know if it's germane to our discussion here but why/ under what rationale were these sites banned (?) from youtube? anyone know?
your name's Lebowski, Lebowski... and your wife is Bunny
CSPANJunkie's accounts banned. Mine got hit for posting two clips from PBS of all places and I forget what the third one was. One was Frontline complaining and the segment was Democracy Now featuring some of Frontline's video. If you get three copyright complaints you're gone.
for passing along the info
your name's Lebowski, Lebowski... and your wife is Bunny
CSPANJunkie losing those accounts is he also had something along the line of over 30,000 subscribers. They don't always know where to find you again if you make new account. That's not something someone gets back either. I felt like I got kicked in the teeth after losing the account with 600 videos. I know he had to feel worse. It's really disheartening to see a couple of years worth of work just go poof before your eyes.
I hope he backed up all the videos, cspanjunkie is a freaking hero.
The internet needs stage 6 reopened, but instead by nice people, not by you tube .
do not forget that THOUSANDS of children have died (democracynow.org) since 1985 b/c of lack of coverage, and that 2/3 of ALL bankruptcies
are due to lack of coverage. Please, America ...you can do better!

but it's the Free Market(tm) and stuff./snark
If I hear "free market" one more time in defense of this legalized murder....
Let people die when they could be saved = Free Market(tm). You're a pillar of the community!
Smoke marijuana to mediate your pain when you can't afford treatment = go to jail, you're a menace to society.
This scenario in itself indicates that the felons are running our society and the "government" exists to protect the felons from their victims.
It's capitalism. It's the same ideology that said back in the 19th century it was okay to use child labor, kill people in sweatshops, make people work 18 hours a day with no days off, etc.
It was only because of LIBERAL lawmakers who enacted laws to rein in that sacred capitalism that we even have a 40-hour work week, minimum wage, laws against child labor, minimum safety standards, etc.
All the morons supporting the vaunted "free market" and saying capitalism should have no limits from government would be singing a very different tune if they had ANY IDEA what their workday would be like if the market were really as free as the money men would LIKE it to be. It's only those supposedly evil government limits that keep our lives as tolerable as they are. If those limits were taken away, we'd be back where we were in the days of the Industrial Revolution, except with more shiny toys to keep us sedated and happy with our slavery.

Why were the channels closed?
Also, did you not keep backups of your videos?

server so the work wasn't lost. It's time consuming doing all that uploading though, and that time's something that someone will never get back.
Time is something you can't get back. I'm sorry it happened to you and CSPANJunkie. You guys do great work.
I can't understand the way media companies behave. They act like children having tantrums and then wonder why more and more people don't want to use their services. I turned off my TV connection 15 years ago and have never looked back, and their behavior makes me more and more glad I did. None of them will ever get another penny of my money.

..listing the people who died because they didn't have coverage, you can probably add a bunch more who had coverage but were denied treatment for any of a number of reasons.

You have this right. Insurance coverage is a gamble where the dealer (CEO) wins every hand.

for publicizing these heartbreaking tragedies. It's obvious that he cares very deeply for his countrymen. His words, his facial expressions and his voice speak volumes.
Thank you, Mr Grayson. You are a good man.
I'm impressed by how those stories obviously affect him. He's clearly no cold-hearted politician, and I'm glad he's out there fighting for us.

Alan Grayson is one in a million.
You mean he's no cold hearted Republican.
Nitpick all you like. Names aren't important - action is what matters.

And what Republican has stood up on the house floor and made a speech like this? Like I said.

And we wonder why nothing ever gets accomplished.
Lots of Senators, no doubt.

I happen to have it all, so there is none left over for you to get, so die in the gutter. Your lack of wealth is your fault not mine!
The clip ended after Grayson yeilded is time. I would have loved to have heard the Republican congressman's equally passionate response plea on behalf of those CEOs suffering at Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Humana. I'll bet it would have been a real tear jerker with the heart wrenching stories of the heathcare CEO's who could have made 30 million in bonuses instead of a mere 20 million had they only been able to drop the coverages of a few more thousand Americans in need. The stories of scaled back yachts, smaller mansions and one less private jet....on second thought I'm glad I didn't hear it, it would have been just too much to bear!
just hope he is careful to not become a joke...
when he tries the comedy schtick it kinda flops... this works... powerful.
stay strong. stay real. thank you, rep. grayson.
Agreed. Besides he's a congressman. Leave the comedy to Stewart and Colbert, they do it better and they're not elected officials.
I've heard him being funny is when he's a guest on the comedy shows. The rest of the time he's serious. So much for the funny.

Choking...
This will even make Glenn Beck cry... for real....
Either that or he'll claim it's propaganda. The guy doesn't care about real people.
There's always free cheddar in the mousetrap, baby. - Tom Waits
Narcisstic sociopaths like Beck weep only when it personally benefits them---they are bereft of the conscience and empathy that breaks normal people's hearts when we hear these terrible stories.
Why we continue to let people suffer this misery is beyond my comprehension. I would be glad to do with less if it meant that we could lift the less fortunate up. Hooray for Alan for speaking truth to power.

And an especially big FUCK YOU to CNN for calling this man a "wingnut"!! Hell, I might even start watching Fux after that sort of shit.
Damn, I'm pissed off...Fuckin' bars don't open for another hour--I need a drink.
"Parachutes are allowed in checked or carry-on baggage, but may not be worn in flight."

A common theme among Republicans is that they don't value the sanctity of life very much. Sure, they use the abortion issue as a political football because it suits their real agenda - garnering votes and raising money, but life? They couldn't care less. Whether it's sending our troops into harms way under false pretenses or denying health care to maximize profits of insurance companies, it's consistent with who they are.
I'm telling you, when I heard that VARIOUS MEMBERS OF CONGRESS were going to vote against a public health insurance option, I got mad as hell.
-
And I'm not just talking about a few Democrats; I'm also talking about Republicans and one Independent.
-
Now, Congressman Alan Grayson has inspired me to call em like I see em; and I'm gonna let her rip.
-
Promise me you'll stay with me to the end of this comment.
-
The way I see it is, we have a CORPORATE CARTEL (HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANIES) paying LOBBYISTS (HIGH PAID MADAMS/PIMPS) to manage/ reign in/ manipulate various POLITICIANS to do their bidding.
Did I get that right people? Let’s break down the organizational structure.
First, what is a CARTEL and does the HEALTH INSURANCE INDUSTRY [made up of health insurance companies], fit the description?
There are two definitions [from source]; however, I like the one that describes a CARTEL as an association of independent businesses organized to control prices and production, eliminate competition (by being a monopoly), and reduce the cost of doing business (denying treatment/refusing to pay claims, and refusing enrollment to those with a pre-existing condition).
I ask you, does that description bring it home for you?
Does for me.
Now, on to the HIGH PAID MADAMS/ [OR PIMPS].
-
See, Grayson was close, but I beg to differ …
-
Grayson called an ex-Enron lobbyist a whore. She deserved it.
-
"Enron was the world’s largest energy-trading company, with a market value of as much as $68 billion, before it imploded amid allegations of accounting fraud. The bankruptcy wiped out more than 5,000 jobs and at least $1 billion in retirement funds.
A Houston jury found former Enron Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Skilling and former Chairman Kenneth Lay guilty in 2006 of deceiving investors, analysts and employees about the company’s deteriorating financial condition. Skilling is serving a 24-year prison term. Lay died before sentencing."
-
-
Ok, Grayson calls em whores. I see lobbyists as MADAMS/PIMPS, looking to manage PROSTITUTES.
The MADAM disperses the money to the prostitute when the prostitute brings home the bacon.
-
Now the MADAM/PIMP may give out a few favors to hook the politician, but that MADAM won't do that forever unless he/she receives some return on investment. The politician becomes a prostitute when he/she delivers the return on the investment.
Am I close people? Are you feeling me?
What is at stake here?
-
If you answered … the health of the "John" [who are the CARTEL'S consumers and the prostitute’s constituents], I'll give you a gold star.
The "John" comes to the prostitute asking to be treated right, asking for the prostitute to satisfy a need.**
-
I hate to insult anyone, but people, ... can you really trust a prostitute?
They will always tell you what you want to hear, but it’s mostly fake. Many times you leave feeling somewhat satisfied, but the feeling is brief, and something doesn’t feel right.
-
Why? … Because, again … it’s mostly fake (lot of smoke and mirrors) and empty promises. Where is the love? Did he/she really deliver on the promise, and leave you whole, happy and healthy?
And so we enter the brothel, the "chamber", often begging, pleading, for the prostitute to satisfy this need** you have. Will he/she deliver this time, defying the madam, ... refusing to be paid, ... willing and able to rescue you out of love and devotion and caring?
Will the prostitute find redemption?
We’ll see … won’t we?
